We went on a Saturday night and it was fairly busy. The woman who owns and runs it was so sweet & really worked hard serving several tables, assisting her husband who prepares all the food fresh and to order. We also met her husband who was equally so nice. The food - AMAZING! Awesome vegan options! Everything was fresh and piping hot. The flavors were incredible. We went for lunch on a Monday when many restaurants are closed, and I'm so glad we did! It was a cold and cloudy day and I was craving a big hot steamy bowl of pho, and I happened to be in the Westbrook area, and Bamboo Bistro was open so why not try it. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was very fresh and steaming hot when it arrived at our table. My friend got the lo mein noodles with chicken and veggies, and I got the beef pho with rare steak. The lo mein was beautiful...the veggie colors were so bright...maybe because it was a dark cloudy day the veggies colors stood out so vibrantly...not sure, but check out the picture...the plate of noodles and veggies is beautiful. The pho came with the usual accompaniments of fresh herbs, lime, jalapeño, and bean sprouts. The broth was very flavorful, the noodles were plentiful, and the bowl the large! I ate all the noodles but couldn't finish the broth...it was just too much. I also did t eat all the steak...it was a little tough...could have been shaved thinner and been more tender. Despite the steak it being perfect, I really enjoyed the pho...it scratched the pho craving perfectly. The decor in the restaurant is simple, big windows make the place nice and bright. Thank you! I've been looking for a place that can satisfy my Pad Thai craving; this is the place! Pad Thai is the dish I've missed the most since going vegan. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now; so happy I finally did! I had the vegan tofu Pad Thai, vegetable Pad Thai, drunken noodles, and veggie rolls still need to try the dumplings, BBQ chicken and more! They cater to everyone and have a vegan menu with a good amount of options, wonderful and knowledgeable employees and delicious food! Everything I've had has been delicious!!! I'm so happy this place exists! Also note the appearance of the vegan Pad Thai is different (classic presentation) before I mixed it together and ate some, also the vegan drunken noodles filled the entire container before I ate some, I couldn't wait! For most of the time we were the only ones there and really, every table should have been filled because the food was delicious, the waitress friendly and helpful, the surroundings simple but very pleasant. There's plenty of parking out back. But the main draw is the food. We ordered the vermicelli rice bowl which was filled with grilled chicken, carrots, lettuce, bean sprouts, tiny fried onion rings, peanuts--and it could not have been fresher or tastier. We ordered a bunch of apps, like fresh spring rolls, crab rangoon, and of course, quail eggs. We loved everything. The service was also super friendly and attentive. For mains we ordered drunken noodle and a pork chop dish that was very delicious and surprisingly healthy, with fresh tomato and cucumbers! Realizing at a certain point that we would be taking most of the food we over-ordered home, we decided to go full out and try the fried banana dessert. This was a particularly great version. The banana was lightly fried, there was ice cream and a giant mount of whipped cream AND a cherry! On the way out, I noticed an upcoming special on Friday and Saturday nights. Came here on a Friday afternoon and was immediately seated. The atmosphere was very calming and I love how cozy the place looked. The table my boyfriend and I were sitting at was wobbly so anytime we moved anything on the table, it shifted... we ordered some quail eggs for an appetizer and they were amazing ! I ordered the combo pho, and my boyfriend ordered an egg noodle soup with bbq pork slices. I would say that the pho was a bit bland for my taste, but i added a bunch of hoisin and siracha into it. The egg noodle soup had some wantons in it too which were delicious:) Overall, I'd probably come back for the quail eggs! I went in on a cold weekday late afternoon so I literally had the place to myself. I ordered the glorious shredded chicken wonton egg noodle soup. No more than 10 minutes later, I had a gigantic bowl of hot steaming goodness in front of me. The ratio of noodles to meat to vegetables was perfect, and the broth was also well done- not too salty. I loved the baby bok choy which offered a nice balance of greens in each bite. The service was friendly and fast and it was super affordable. I saw this place open after Siam Square closed. I had a take out order that was less than expectations. I had the fresh spring rolls and the rice wrappers were hard. Either they didn't soak them or they did and let them dry out. I threw out the wrappers and ate the contents with a fork. Disappointing. I also had the chicken wonton egg noodle soup that was enjoyable . I will give it another shot since it is right down the street but my first experience was underwhelming. read more

Our best experience yet in Portland! Bamboo Bistro is actually in Westbrook, a bedroom community to Portland, but definitely worth finding! We have been wanting to find great Thai food in the area - something that had eluded us outside of Auburn. One reason we love Thai food is that it is easily vegan-vegetarian friendly and our experience here did not disappoint. We started with the fresh spring rolls, shared the Asian Coleslaw, and our entrée was the Wok Stir-Fried Cashew Nut dish; hubby had his with tofu and I with extra vegetables. We both ordered "medium" spicy and thought it was perfect. It seemed like they were still figuring out how to handle that evening's volume of traffic, but it was worth the short wait. Easily the best place for authentic Vietnamese/Thai food in Westbrook. Where they lack in decor, they far more than make up for with quality and flavor. My wife and I needed a hot bowl of Pho right before Christmas, and tried to go to our normal spot Phoever Maine, but alas, they were closed for the Christmas holiday. We decided to try Bamboo Bistro which was just down the road-- it has been open a few years, and a bowl of Pho is a bowl of Pho, right ? WRONG. We walked into the place and it was almost empty at 6:00 pm. The one person working out front told us to sit anywhere, and then we never saw him. After 15 minutes we finally caught his attention to ask him for menus. We both order Pho with Vietnamese meatballs. Another 15-20 minutes and the Pho arrives. Broth ok, noodles ok, meatballs............ disgusting. Obviously low grade beef with hard pieces in every bite. Every bite we had to fish out another piece of fatty grissle. We got so grossed out by them we removed them all from our Pho. I was starving but couldn't even finish my bowl. Our waiter never once came by to see how we were doing. No contact what so ever. We finally had enough and just wanted to leave but our guy was nowhere to be found. We finally walked up front and peered into the kitchen to get his attention so we could get our check and get out of there to find something good to eat for dinner. When you want a good bowl of Pho, try Phoever Maine just down the street, or any of the other dozen good noodle places in the area. Avoid Bamboo Bistro. Not good read more
