My family has been a customer for many years at Bamboo China 2. Whenever we get home late from work and do not feel like cooking, we will happily order from this restaurant. Last night was exceptionally good. It was Christmas and knowing the wait time and crowd at many other Asian Restaurants, Bamboo China 2 let my brother sister and I right in to a table. The wait for our food was a little long (again we usually order takeout), but the food was delicious. Some of my favorite dishes are their sesame chicken, boneless spare ribs, and mei fun. Tonight I got Pad See Ew which I've never had there and it was fantastic with a nice portion and perfectly cooked noodles. Keeping it at one star. Last Thursday I got combo lo mein, shrimp toast, and fried pork dumplings as I wanted a blast to the past. I realize this isn't authentic for authentic I haul myself to Edison. I will say this, Chun King at the 1964 worlds fair in flushing queens had better food. SO that means I have been eating Chinese food for well over 60 years. I guess I was hoping for a miracle. Nathans chow mein on a hamburger bun is better then this slop. I can't believe there is no good Chinese restaurants in Marlboro/Manalapan. What gives? Shanghai Bun in Matawan is not bad, but it's hit and miss. The defunct Hey Birds in Toms River and Lakewood was better than anything in Monmouth county. Alas they are long gone. read more

Same Name......Different owners New owners took over summer 2023 so any reviews prior to that represent the past owners who were excellent. New owners, not so great. We have been there three times since they took over to give them a chance, but after today sadly we will start looking for alternatives. Food just not that great anymore. Sentimental? I grew up in manalapan always ordering from Bamboo China. I was in the area recently visiting family and wanted good Chinese food and immediately thought of my childhood. They have always been so reliable and so fast preparing orders. I love their take out because it is always hot and so fresh. Highs and lows here. I really liked the home made duck sauce and the steamed dumplings were great. Lo mein had a lot of flavor and mixed in veg, as did the fried rice. The bbq ribs that were good were amazing, but in a small order of maybe 8 ribs, only 2 were good, the rest were burned and not good at all. The mid tier was the boneless spareribs, that were cut a bit too thin and dry, and the egg roll that was just kinda meh. Scallion pancakes were limp and oily, but crunchy on the edges and tasted good. The not so good was the 2 main dishes we got- the chicken chow fun and generals tsaos. The chicken chow fun just had too much mushroom, it really dominated the flavor of the entire dish. Only like 4 carrots in there, and the chicken was dry. The general tsaos was also, somehow, dry and the sauce was too sweet and not spicy enough. Overall, a bummer because the things they got right were really excellent, especially those dumplings. read more

The worst general tso's chicken I've ever had. I honestly didn't even know what I was eating. Spit a lot of it out and started to feel kind of sick so I threw the rest of it away. My family and I decided to eat at Bamboo China II. We ordered the beef and broccoli, 2 Ice teas and 2 bowls of rice but felt at times that we had to chase the Chinese waitress a couple of times to get her attention. But when finished our meal and I went to pay the bill with my debit card but did not offer a tip. When I went back to the table to get ready to leave with my family the waitress came to the table claiming that I forgot to pay the tip. Usually, I would tell the person what I think but decided not to make a scene. Perhaps the waiter needs to understand that her service did not earn her a tip and tips are something that customers don't have to pay. I was embarrassed that the women came out and asked. I will still give Bamboo China II my business but won't eat at the restaurant anymore. read more

My go- to place when I am back in Manalapan! I live in CA, where the Chinese food is severely lacking in the kind of flavor and quality I was used to when we lived in NJ. Went there today for lunch and they did not disappoint! From the noodles with duck sauce, to the egg roll, to the bbq spare ribs and pork fried rice, I was in heaven! This is my go to place for Chinese in the area for the past 10+ years.. It is great authentic Chinese food with the right amount of grease ;) I always get take out and wait.. It does not take long so I don't mind. I've gotten the usual dishes (lo mein, sweet sour chicken, beef n brocc, general tso, etc..) and it is pretty good no complaints. Just ask for chop sticks if you would like them. They also have some Thai dishes. I tried the pad Thai with chicken but I will stick to the Chinese portion of the menu. Unfortunately last night was the first time they messed up my order. I should've known to check before I left when people were calling the restaurant that some parts of their orders were missing. They offered to deliver, or give back $.. I got take out and had a hankering for lo mein so decided to take my 7 min drive back to the restaurant. They were nice and things like that happen so hopefully not a recurring issue. Def try this place if you are craving Chinese food! read more

We eat here often and are never disappointed. They have a tremendous take out service and their delivery guy always seems pretty busy. We have went to this location every Christmas for at LEAST 7 years. With no call aheads, we weren't surprised to see a wait for a table. After a while, we asked if there was an update on about how long. We were told that they were waiting for the big round table in the back to leave, and that they had already eaten. We said no problem and continued to wait. After we noticed that their glasses were being refilled after an hour, we asked the owner. She said they never even got their food yet! (Why did they lie to us an hour prior!?) Then she screamed at us saying she never knew there was a table of 11 waiting, and it would be impossible to fit us. (Which is ironic since we have been there every year for years). 1. Why would 11 people be aimlessly standing in a small waiting area? 2. Why did the staff tell us the big table was done eating when they really never got their food? 3. If they couldn't fit us, why didn't they tell us when we came in? 4. Why the hell was the owner yelling at us? You didn't lose just 11 people who come EVERY YEAR, but you lost 11 different local FAMILIES. And the owner yelling at us? Are you kidding? The food is hit or miss. Every once in a while there food is really good and you think OK, we can order from them again. Then you order and you have to ask yourself - what am I eating here? They now buy there wontons / dumplings already made (as in frozen and just defrost them). If I wanted that I would go buy frozen Chinese from Shoprite and re-heat it. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. It is in a small strip mall on union hill rd. The food here is absolutely delicious. Ordered take out once and ate in tonight and it was excellent. One of my favorites are the shrimp dumplings the dumpling itself is nice and thin and not thick and doughy. Some entrees that we enjoyed were double delight and king pao shrimp. Eating in today was nice our waitress was very sweet and efficient. Definitely will be back again! read more

I moved to Manalapan about a year ago and was very happy to find a Chinese restaurant that offered flavors comparable to what I was getting in Queen, NY. The restaurant also offers wait service dining in a very pleasant dining area. Staff always nice and the owner is very friendly. I am reading some of these good reviews and am shocked that the food I got was from the same place. Sorry, but this is not very good food, unless you have a very low standard. If your goal is to get a cheap meal and nothing more, you might be OK with this place (it's very inexpensive) but if you want a halfway decent meal, go elsewhere. We ordered takeout ... chicken with snow peas and hunan chicken and both were SWIMMING in a greasy brown sauce that tasted virtually the same. In fact the only difference seemed to be that one had a few snow peas and the other didn't. The vegetables were soggy and the chicken was eh. We also ordered sweet & sour chicken which was your basic sweet and sour but it didn't have any vegetables. Also ordered a side of "fresh vegetables" but it only included broccoli and some onions. (this was the only dish that was ok because it wasn't swimming in sauce and the broccoli was fresh). Another side of vegetable fried rice was soggy and only had broccoli, and not much of it. I ordered two full dinner entrees to take out. One of the items was fine, but the other item was unacceptable. The chicken dish was not what I had ordered. There was a very small amount of chicken, the vegetables were missing, and the chicken was on some brownish lettuce. I called immediately to inform the staff of this. I was told I would get a credit to use another time. The person answering the phone acknowledged that this was the wrong item and I would receive a full credit to use the next time. When I went back a week later, the person who offered my credit was not there and the manager refused to issue the credit. She said she had no record of the problem. I had my receipt and the name of the person who told me I would get a credit. She was very rude about it and told me not ever to order at the restaurant any more. Then she even called me on my cell phone and continued to berate me and tell me that she did not owe me anything. What happened to the "customer is always right."? We were very good customers here and the staff knew us quite well. There are too many other Chinese restaurants in the area to go to where I will not be verbally abused. Beware. read more

Have been there several times, but the past time both the young ladies at the front counter and the waitress were very obnoxious. We were a party of 6, and there were three open tables of 4, but they would not sit us at those tables "in case they needed them later". Instead, they told us we had to wait for there only table for 6 to open up. After 10 minutes of waiting, we inquired again, and the staff were very obnoxious. In fact, one of them turned their back to us, said something to the others, walked away, while the others chuckled. It was so disrespectful. Food is good, but not good enough to be treated that way. Very disappointed with take out service. Called in at 6:25 PM told order (1 combination plate & 1 soup) would be ready in 25 minutes. When I arrived at 7:05 I was told order wasn't ready. There was total chaos with several people waiting for orders & all grumbling. After waiting another 20 minutes watching orders being stacked up on a table one of the 3 cashiers finally found my order on the table. This is pretty sad, but after 10 years of buying take out from Bamboo II in Manalapan, I have to say they have REALLY gone downhill. I buy food about 1-2 x a month and always order Shrimp Pad Thai, General Tzo's Chicken, Chicken with Broccoli, Vegetarian Egg rolls and Chinese mixed vegetables in brown sauce. Tonight was all so lousy....usually it was your typical American Chinese local food, not cheap but fast and fine. I liked the Pad Thai and their portions were good. Several times they screwed up the order and give me white rice instead of brown...I never complained...well, no more...tonight they have lost me completely. The owner is crazy and accused me of being racist because I called about the food problems. HUGE language barrier here and it was really sad. They screwed up my Pad Thai and put no sauce on it, it was simply: noodles, shrimp, peanuts, mungbean sprouts and lime but NO PAD THAI sauce-noodles were pristine and white. I called up to see what they could do-never ever expecting what unfolded...the first person who answered the phone should not be answering phones...she understood no English. Now, let me be clear-I understand no Asian languages whatsoever. I give immigrants tremendous credit for coming here and working so hard. But you can't have people dealing with complaints if they don't understand English. I asked to speak to someone else and they put on the person who takes the orders, her English is PERFECT. She asks what I would like, I am expecting her to offer me my money back or offer to drive another one over...but that doesn't happen...so I say, I would like a refund of $9.95 for the Pad Thai-which I picked up. She says, "that sounds reasonable, I will ask my boss..." The Boss gets on the phone and says, "so you don't like my food?" "No, I said, I don't like the Pad Thai, you left off all the sauce." She says, "that's impossible." "I said, so are calling me a liar?" She said "no but that has never happened so it is not possible." OK...you can imagine the conversation goes downhill. I said, look the person who answered the phone does not know how to speak English...and then the owner starts screaming at me and calling me, the most LIBERAL person-I know a racist. Thats when I said, "are you going to give me a refund?" She says, "no-I no give haters money". I said, "OK, so lose a customer over $9.95 and call me names..great way to run a business... and I hung up the phone.
