This was the most bizarre experience I've ever had. The woman at the desk was extremely rude. I asked about menu options and she was clearly irritated and uninterested from the start, making this gnarling/grimmacing/disgusted face while interacting with me, which should've clued me in to take my business elsewhere. When I declined a large cup of red sauce (by saying, no, thank you, I'll keep what I have already ordered) vs whatever other sauce she had, she became further upset and refused to finish taking my order, telling me "You go next door, I don't know what you want.. If you want freshly cooked real food this is a great place to go. Their portions are generous and you feel like you are actually eating real food. Lucy is a great manager taking phone calls, cash register, and helping to package. She is always kind and she remembers a lot of the regulars usual order. So it did take me awhile to see what I wanted. Food tasted good but not the best. This is subjectively one of the best businesses on the entire island. The service here is always fantastic and friendly, the woman that answers the phone and runs the front desk is incredibly nice every single time I call ahead or visit. I am a noodles and dumplings kind of person. Having lived in China for a few years I have tried many different kinds, and Bamboo has some of the best dumplings I have found in RI. She makes everything by hand - the dough, filling, etc, and you can tell- nice, slightly chewy dough, with the perfect amount of ginger in the meat filling. We are also big fans of their mooshu chicken. I have an egg allergy and they are careful to take that into consideration. My wife ordered vegetable fried rice to go, among other items, and when I went to pick it up the order was incorrect and they had made pork fried rice. I explained to the owner Lucy that she got the order wrong and rather than correct it she screamed at me in broken English that she asked my wife three times on the phone if it was pork fried rice. After she stopped I said I heard her say "No pork" over the phone. Again, rather than fix the order she threw the to-go bag and told me to not come back. I told her that I would be happy to oblige and make my recommendation for everyone else to also not come back. If there was such a thing as 1/2 stars, this place would be 3.5 stars. In all honesty, there are about a dozen or so Chinese joints in Newport. Most of them aren't that great. This one is better than the rest with the exception of probably Kio's. This placed is neck and neck with it for what I usually order. I usually get the General Tsao's Chicken or Beef Chowfun (Wide Noodle), wife normally gets a vegetable dish or soup. This place delivered in the promised amount of time and we left directions for the driver to call us since we have issues with our door bell and he called when he got here. So decent service. The price is average and the portions are pretty large. The General Tsao's is not too saucy which causes it to be soggy. The chicken is nice and crispy with a thick light sauce. I just wish it was spicier. Next time I'll ask them to make it that way. The Beef Chowfun had a nice flavor too eat, just needed more red pepper as well. This dish is usually NOT spicy, I just like red pepper in it when it cooks to give it a more adult taste. Since my wife got food poisoning last time we ordered Chinese from a different location, this place was awesome. Quick service, decent food, decent price, and I'm full. It won't be revolutionary but hit the spot. read more

The food is amazing! I order from here so often that I'm friends with the workers. They don't speak the best English but I'm still able to understand. Covid precautions are taken and they even offer hand sanitizer. The lady that works here doesn't have the best patience, but if you're lucky, you get your order taken with her daughter. The Chicken Chow Mein was pretty good. Vegetables were stir fried perfectly w/ a generous portion of tender chicken breast. The sauce wasn't as thick as I like it but it was good anyways. The other dishes weren't bad either. The Crab Rangoon was a surprise. It actually had crab and cream cheese in it! I cannot tell you how many times I've ordered crab rangoon and all I got was a fried wonton noodle. The only disappointment was the Hot & Sour Soup. Very bland tasting and no "sour" (vinegar) taste at all. I would recommend this place for take out, not really a sit down kind of place although they do have a few tables.
