Somehow, this place has alluded me forever. I love Thai food & have traveled fairly extensively in Thailand, but have been underwhelmed by most of the local places I've tried. Yet, maybe because of a total lack of internet presence, I never visited this spot. But, let me tell you... Bangkok City is now being added to my favorite local haunts! Don't expect much as far as atmosphere here - while it is neat & clean, I don't think anything has ever been updated. Very dated, 80's fern bar style hanging lights set the tone while (thankfully!) the horrid florescent tube lighting covering the ceiling remained dark. A few pieces of Thai decor & some travel posters reflected the cuisine. A TV in the corner silently showed a tennis match. Some quiet music would have been nice - it was far too quiet. But, don't let the lack of ambiance discourage you - it all gets better from there! The gentleman who greeted & served us, in fact, the only staff member we saw during our Saturday evening visit, was friendly & helpful. And the food was fabulous! We started with B-K-C Summer Rolls and Tom Kha Kai Soup. The rolls we crisp, fresh & tasty. The soup looked quite basic - just the coconut broth and lots of chicken and tiny treats of diced galagal. This soup often includes mushrooms & I've also seen tomatoes, onions, or sweet pepper slivers too. But, none of those extras were needed as the flavor was just perfection - so delicious! The large size was more than enough for two, definitely good for three or maybe four. We happily slurped it all up anyway. For entrees, Kang Keow Warn ( green curry) & Duck Curry were fantastic! With just the right amount of spice as we had requested & a touch of sweetness typical of central Thailand, they were served with rice & filled with perfectly fresh, crisp vegetables and meat. We were too full for dessert, but there were many interesting choices & I can't wait to return for mango & sticky rice. Prices here are surprisingly reasonable - literally half of what most local Thai spots charge. The short beverage list featured wine at $5 a glass and several beers choices at just $4 & $5 a bottle. Dinner for two with leftovers came to under under $50! They don't have takeout menus or a website, so we took photos of the menu for ordering take out, something I'm sure we will be doing very regularly for now on! read more

The Chicken Pad Thai was very good. Could have been slightly spicier my that was 100% my fault because I didn't mention anything. Also ordered the chicken satee, it was good, but the sauce could be a little thicker. This gets a 5 star review based on taste and value. Cheapest Thai food in the area that I've found! The flavors of the chicken Pad Thai aren't standout compared to some of the other restaurants in the area but it's great for the price. They are also very fast with getting orders out so it's a great place to grab a quick lunch or for ordering takeout. read more

On the way in to town from off Island, we decided that Thai food sounded like it would hit the spot. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of good Thai food on the island, and the one that we hadn't tried yet was in Middletown. We jumped onto Yelp and verified that they were open for lunch and made our way over. When we arrived, it was at the height of lunch rush and yet only two tables were filled. We were seated unceremoniously and we started out on the menus. It took us a while to flag down the waiter to place our orders, and we had some questions. The lunch specials seem to have a cup of the soup of the day, and when we asked what it was, the waiter said " chicken noodle soup" which I thought was very weird. I asked if we could substitute a Thai soup instead and he said no. We both love pad woon sen, so I ordered it vegetarian and hubby ordered it with chicken. I requested to upgrade my soup to Tom ca and hubby went with the soup of the day to see how it was. As we saw food coming out from the back, my even low expectations seem to need to be lowered even further. The soup arrived first. The chicken noodle soup was gelatinous, and tasted soapy and neither of us could down even one spoonful. My Tom ka soup was good flavored, however it had a huge amount of uncooked, rock hard, dry and fibrous chunks of ginger root which were completely inedible and made the soup a minefield of trying to navigate not eating them. When the entrees arrived, We realized that things were not going to improve. Both of our noodle entrees came with fried rice which I thought was an odd pairing. The fried rice was not fried at all, it was steamed rice mixed with over steamed carrots which I thought was very weird. Hubby's chicken was bland and tasted like it was boiled. Both of our noodle dishes were bland and lacked seasoning of any kind. We both ended up leaving most of our meal on our plates. It was so uncoordinated to check out, that we didn't know what to do. We ended up walking to the front of the restaurant and paying there. We didn't get an itemized bill, he just put his hands out for our credit card and put it into the machine. The waiter also didn't ask how our meal was or why we didn't eat it which I think is poor customer service and attentiveness. Location is just about the only good thing about this restaurant, conveniently located just across from the DMV in Middletown. Prices are competitive but the quality is terrible and the quantity is not worth it either. The flavors are not authentic, and the service is non-existent. Additionally, the bathrooms were atrocious and the whole restaurant looked like it needed a deep clean. I will not be returning here, similar to the Thai restaurant across the street which I think is also a terrible option when trying to satiate your desire for Thai food. read more

Our Rhode Island friends said we HAD to try this place, that everything on the menu is phenomenal. Unfortunately, not the case :( I had been super craving Pad Thai. The lunch special is truly a great price, and appropriately priced because it's the perfect amount for lunch with no leftovers. I called the order in for takeout (COVID times) and it was ready in only 20 minutes! The soup of the day was chicken noodle and pretty tasty, but by no means fresh tasting. It tasted fatty with such a thick broth, as though it was from a can. The Pad Thai also did not taste fresh. There weren't many flavors I could identify. Other than the peanuts, everything else was quite mild. I added on a squeeze of lime at home and that helped. It satiated my Pad Thai craving but was not the quality of taste I had hoped for at a place that has such great reviews. read more

So for the past several months this has been one of our favorite go-to restaurants! The food is consistently delicious and the service is fantastic! Pete, the owner is super friendly and now knows us on a first name basis and remembers what we like! Super friendly guy! We always seem to bounce between certain dishes... We ALWAYS start with Winter Rolls... They are so fresh and delicious & the dipping chili sauce with peanuts is superb! We usually order a shrimp fried rice to go along with our entree as well. The BEST fried rice!! I go between the Pad Cashew Nut with Chicken (Sauteed chicken with cashew nuts, onions, carrots, mushrooms, baby corn, scallions and water chestnuts in a brown sauce) and the Goong Pad Woon-Sen (Sauteed Shrimp with a clear noodle, egg, scallions & bean sprouts in a brown sauce. I also add water chestnuts) The dishes are delicious! My husband generally gets Shrimp or Chicken Pad Key-Mow (sauteed choice of protein, bamboo shoots, peppers, onions, scallions & mushrooms in a homemade chili sauce). He loves it. Authentic little Thai place. Open for inside dining but appears to be doing a lot of takeout. We were seated immediately. All covid procedures followed. We weren't very hungry so shared some delightful winter rolls full of fresh cilantro. Then it was a bowl of crab soup and a bowl of Tom Kha Kai. Both very good. With a hot tea and 20% tip we were out of there for only $14. I think that last happened to me in 1978! read more

Husband and I were visiting RI during the holiday season. Drove around to find something to eat on New Year's Eve. Came across Bangkok City and was totally satisfied with our dinner and service. We were greeted upon entering and seated immediately. Ordered the Beef Pad See Ew, Chicken Curry, Fried Rice, and a Winter Roll. Oh, and the Sticky Rice and Coconut Ice Cream for dessert. All were delicious! Although they were busy with their take out orders, we were checked up on on a timely basis and did not feel neglected. What a great surprise in the middle of nowhere (no offense Middletown). The Italian place next door was too crowded and loud so I tried it... this little place is awesome, totally authentic real Thai food. I asked for my green curry sauce to be made spicy, he did not disappoint! Everything was terrific and the prices were very reasonable. And where do you get a Thai beer for $4...? The food is all very delicious, the Pad Thai and the Tom Yum Gai in particular are my favorite. The ambiance of the restaurant is very calm and comforting, it is often quiet. The service is fantastic, although it is a mom and pop shop and as such the service can be a bit slow so just make sure you have enough time to sit and enjoy the meal. I'm a Thai food snob and I read every single Yelp review of this place before trying it out. I'm part Thai, have had food in Thailand on multiple occasions, and my family owns Thai restaurants (not in the same area). I figured, $6 lunch so why not? I ordered the noodle kee mao, which is basically drunken noodles at any other Thai restaurant. It came with a small cup of chicken noodle soup. Upon first glance, the food just did not look appealing. The soup was completely bland. The noodles were decent and tasted better than they looked, but definitely not the greatest I've ever had. There were a few pieces of rough, over-cooked chicken, and literally 2 small slices of red bell pepper. The portion was certainly in line with the $6 price point, but the overall quality of the dish was lacking. I wish there were more vegetables and the sauce wasn't so salty. Overall, the food was decent for the price paid but I would rather pay a few more bucks for better Thai food. There aren't too many options for Asian food on the island, so that may be a reason why people rave about this place. The owner does seem nice and the other food options seem authentic, but I likely won't return. read more

Cute little restaurant, friendly and helpful staff, with satisfying food. The plates are accurately priced (low) because the serving size is appropriate for one meal. We ordered items that could be easily vegetarian so there was no issue with dietary restriction for me.
