Love that they have veggie chicken as my old standby in Oakland finally went away after nearly 30 years of loving their food. Glad to have this semi-close! Here's a thought: Open an offshoot in Vallejo. Although Vallejo does HAVE many Chinese food places, there is a gaping hole for vegetarian/Buddhist style meals here. ATF Chinese food. Hands down. When I think my favorite Chinese food this is the place. Hands down no blinking. I get the ginger scallion fish fillet all the time and it's my fav. Amazing! The salt and pepper pork chop has the right amount of crisp and it's not too salty either. Had take out from bamboo garden and it was delicious. The lunch special was a good sized portion of both entree and side. I got the Mongolian beef with chow mein. The Mongolian beef had great spice level and as much as I love onions, it did have a bit too much onion to steak ratio. The chowmein was basic, no veggies in it but mixed into the Mongolian beef sauce gave it great flavor. Lunch special comes with appetizer choice of fried wonton or spring roll ( unfortunately I didn't get my requested spring roll or a substitue of wonton) and choice of soup. I had the hot and sour. Was a decent hot and sour soup. Not the best I've ever had but I ate the whole small container. It's about 1/4 pint size of soup. The pork potstickers are pan fried with the perfect amount of crispy dough on the one side. I'm curious now to try to chicken potstickers that are stated to be deep fried. Bamboo Garden is a stellar example of American Chinese food. Miss me with that ever arguments you might have about it being "authentic" Chinese food - it is authentically American Chinese food! Rant over, onto the good stuff! BBQ pork chow mein - 10/10 the portion sizes are MASSIVE, at least for takeout. The noodles weren't greasy at all, tasted very fresh and the pork was also great. Hot and sour soup - 10/10 and again, huge portion sizes! The large is actually two big containers, so keep that in mind. My husband and I got a large and had soup for a couple days, which honestly wasn't a bad thing. The flavor and consistency were awesome. Fish filet in black bean sauce - 10/10 the fish was super tender and the sauce was flavorful. Great ratio of fish to bell peppers and onions, and the leftovers actually reheated very nicely! Overall don't overlook this place! The food was also ready in less than 15 minutes for takeout, which was much appreciated on a Sunday when we realized we didn't want to cook. Happened upon this place while running errands today and came in for lunch takeout. Only spent 5 minutes here but had a great experience. Very friendly staff, offered and gave us ice water while we waited for our order (seems like a small thing but feels rare these days). I have been to this location for chinese food since I was a little girl. It's not what it is now but at least it's a house for chinese food. I picked up a to go order for Christmas Eve. We don't cook anymore since my grandmother is a bit picky. I came in and I presumed they were short staffed and a very direct woman asked me if I had a to go order. She asked me what I ordered instead of asking for my name or my phone number. Regardless, we got the correct food. The food was decent - Nothing to write home about. This location has always been a Chinese Restaurant ever since I was going to St Catherine's in the 90's. We recently saw they had changed ownership, we decided to give it a try. We arrived before 6pm on a Friday, and it was quiet... sans all the Grub Hub, Uber Eats, and to-go orders. There were A LOT of them (we are definitely still in a pandemic!) Speaking of, don't forget your masks and proof of vaccinations! We ordered the Crazy Horse Beef (upon recommendation of the owner), Cumin Lamb, and Salt & Pepper pork chops. The Beef was decent. Good flavor, minimal kick; like broccoli beef but with zucchini, onions and peppers instead. If this was supposed to be hot, it was definitely geared towards people who think pepper is spicy. The Cumin Lamb had great flavor. I feel like they missed the mark here. They SHOULD be breading the beef, frying it, then adding in the sauce. If they do this, it would be a home run. But since they don't, the texture was IDENTICAL to the crazy horse beef. I couldn't even tell it was lamb. The texture was exactly like the crazy horse beef, but with Cumin. Flavor wise, perfect. JUST BREAD IT! Salt and Pepper pork chops were great. Crispy. Fresh. However, It feels like Salt Bae went a bit overboard when it came off the wok. They were OVERLY salty. We were able to salvage some of it by wiping/shaking off the excess salt, but when we come back (and we will come back) we will ask them to go easy on the salt. Overall, a great establishment, with what I can tell is a great owner. He was so charismatic, nice, and helpful. Good luck, sir. The lunch special/during lunch hours is what I usually go for once in a great while if it's a weekend or work from home day. I don't really have a favorite yet. Of the two recents I've tried.. cashew chicken and sweet & sour chicken.. I liked the 2nd one best. The pieces of pineapple in the dish were really good and fresh and the sauce was really good, too. With the lunch special, you need to select a side - steamed white rice, fried rice, or chow mein and a soup, egg drop or hot & sour. I prefer the steamed rice over the fried and haven't tried the chow mein, but anything other than steamed rice is $2 extra and not really worth it imo. Maybe the chow mein is really good though, idk. And be sure to request a fortune cookie in the notes if you want one or you won't get it in my experience with most places these days. read more

09/16/24- Called to order for pick up. The lady taking the orders sounds unfriendly and in a rush saying "What Else? what else?!"Ordered 3 kinds of chow mein- House special, vegetables and beef. And two kinds of fried rice- House special and Beef. They were just typical fried rice, bland, nothing special. The beef cut is so huge, not the finest meat. My main concern is how quickly the fried rice smelled spoiled. There's only one way for the fried rice to spoil that quick- the rice was old or most likely from yesterday or cross-contamination from old and new combined Or just plainly old/spoiling. The weather was not even hot nor warm for the rice to spoil quickly. Not a good thing. I was expecting that I will be able to eat it the following day but after I pick it up around 1PM and by the time it's 5PM- it starts to smell like it was already spoiled fried rice. It shouldn't be like this. Can't go cheap to customers by doing this. People paid for a fresh food and expecting to taste some edible food. Chow mein was just okay. Bland and oily. Paid $69.73 for 3chow mein and 2 fried rice. Not worth the money, the drive and the toll. I was expecting a high quality food based on the reviews and at least a good customer service. Will not be coming back for sure. Too hype on reviews but not even close to a fair one. read more

Other then that, here you go: From the moment we've entered, our team was greeted with respect and offered seating (yes, it was about 2 PM on Tuesday, so it was not busy). We've noticed that customers kept coming and going on average 3 to 4 tables occupied for inside dining, and that's outside the fact that in one hour they've served over 20-30 to-go customers including cool guy in a wheelchair in no time, in-n-out just providing your cell phone number and picking up pre-packed lunch. Our dishes served at no time steaming fresh with Green Sautéed String Beans standing out over Cumin Lamb. House Fried Rice, if you are to order one, will fill you and two more accompanying friends. Dumplings with Szechwan Sauce from Chef were soooo juicy to die for. Make sure to kill 'em while they hot. Service - there's no way you gonna be ignored! This private owned biz has the stile in serving fast and with the smile. Just don't waste time. On top all of that you'll be pleasantly surprised with the bill, that's cheaper then some fast food restaurants. Overall we glad that we've discovered this gem, that's so close to our home. I visited for lunch yesterday, hoping to try the highly-rated food. Upon arrival, the restaurant was not overly busy, but nearly every table was dirty--either occupied or still piled high with plates and debris from previous guests. I waited approximately 5 minutes to be seated, which I didn't mind. The host seated me at a table, but that is where the service completely broke down. I was not given a menu at all. For the next 20 minutes, I was completely ignored. I tried multiple times to make eye contact with and call over the staff, but they were preoccupied with clearing the backlog of dirty tables. After the 20-minute mark, a staff member finally approached my table and dropped off a glass of water. As he did so, I immediately asked for a menu, but he walked away without acknowledging my request to continue clearing another dirty table. Despite the positive reviews I'd read, the lack of basic customer service was unacceptable. To wait over 20 minutes without even being offered a menu, let alone having my order taken, is a significant failure. I was eager to try the food, but I ultimately walked out. read more
