4 lunch specials: each came with soup, veggie egg roll, rice, and main course.

DELICIOUS. AUTHENTIC.FRESH. FAST. FLAVORFUL. I love love love this place! Sometimes you're just craving good Chinese takeout, nothing fancy. Just good food, fast and uncomplicated. This place hits the spot. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good authentic Chinese food. Note: they DO NOT dial down the spice, so it's not for the weak diner. Be prepared to be blasted with spicy Szechuan flavors, and please don't complain about the spice level. We want them to NOT dumb it down.

    Unfortunately empty at lunch time.

Ummmmm what in the? Best Chinese food I've had in this area - or possibly ever! Why are they not packed for lunch!!??? Probably because no one knows, just like I didn't! Chef Choy, Bamboo Garden, even 3 Bros. from China (deeply missed) has nothing on this place! My mouth is on fire from the General Tao's chicken (cuz it's actually spicy like it should be, unlike many other places) and the hot and sour soup is !!! Also, the ambiance is great! Cute spot for pics!

pork rib. you can order this non spicy.

Visited this place for the first time and I'm really glad we did. In my opinion, this is an authentic Chinese restaurant. The menu has a wide variety--vegetables, pork, beef, fish, chicken, and even lamb. Everything we ordered was delicious. Each dish was savory, well-seasoned, and nicely presented. There wasn't a single item we didn't enjoy. The space itself is great. It's well-lit with high ceilings, feels open and spacious, and the furniture and flooring don't look dated. They also have their own parking lot, which is a big plus. Service was fast--our food came out in about 10-15 minutes. The only reason I'm taking off one star is the service experience. The server wasn't rude, but didn't seem very approachable or friendly. We felt hesitant to ask for things, which made the experience a little uncomfortable. Also, when we asked for water, it was served in a plastic pitcher that didn't look very clean. I hope they consider switching to glass pitchers in the future. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and would definitely come back.

WOOOW okay this is a must-visit in Concord! My parents gave it the immigrant stamp of approval. The food is legit, actual Szechuan fare. I'm coming back ASAP~~~ We made a lunch reservation for a late celebration for my partner's birthday. He's been wanting to try Szechuan food for the longest time and this was the perfect spot to take him. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and modern, with spacious seating and lots of natural light. The staff made us feel right at home. Everything we had was DELICIOUS. - FAMILY STYLE TOFU (super balanced, lightly sauced) - STEWED TOFU WITH CRABMEAT AND EGG YOLK (PERFECT on rice. This is one of the best salted egg yolk dishes I've had in the bay) - STEAMED FISH FILET WITH SOFT TOFU (buttery soft and melts in your mouth. My partner's favorite) - SHRIMP CHOW MAIN (flavorful and filling) - SICHUAN STYLE GREENBEAN JELLY (just the right amount of spicy and refreshing) - CRISPY SPICY TOFU (insanely authentic) They've only been around for about a year! A fabulous addition to Concord's community.

Phenomenal meal here. Came here on a whim this afternoon with my brother and uncle and we were blown away. There were only a handful of tables with people seated at lunchtime, so we got a table right away. We ordered: - Scallion pancake: One of the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, great chew on the inside, lots of scallions, not at all oily or greasy. - Spicy wontons: Great kick of heat without being overwhelming. Stuffed with meat. - Potstickers: Like the wontons, filled with meat. Panfried to perfection. - Hot and sour soup: Absolutely filled with tofu, mushrooms, egg, and scallions. Every bite had something to chew on, all the way to the very last drops in the tureen. Serious kick of "hot" with just the right amount of "sour." - Mongolian beef: Unlike other places that skimp out on the meat and fill 80% of this dish with onions, there was a pretty balanced ratio of meat to onions. Meat was tender, sauce was massively flavorful and had serious heat. - Vegetable fried rice: Fluffy, soft rice with a wide array of vegetables that were cooked perfectly. Not mushy, not overdone, still had a bit of crispness. Could've been a slightly more generous serving, but it was just enough for us to finish out the meal with. Everything, plus two sodas, came out to $65 and some change. We got a discount on our meal for some reason and saved about ten bucks, but even if we'd paid full price, that would've been a reasonable amount for three adults. The food started coming out immediately after ordering and everything was super hot and fresh. This place is officially one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area and I can't wait to come back.

First time trying this "newish" spot. Take out order (phone in): rude woman answers and takes order, rushes me then hangs up without giving timeframe for pickup Ordered: chicken & string beans+ wonton soup + beef chow fun noodles + rice Taste: very little flavor. We all needed to add soy and garlic chile sauce to get some kind of flavor, including my daughter who had never done so before. Beans soggy, chicken grizzled and beef looked processed. Summery: the meals reminded me of some cheap buffet style dishes. I will not be spending my hard earned money here again!

If you're looking for an authentic, flavor-packed Szechuan dining experience, Szechuan Garden in Concord is the place to be! From the moment you walk in, the interior immerses you in genuine Chinese charm, setting the perfect tone for a meal full of bold, traditional flavors. The Szechuan-style roast whole fish was a hit - perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice who CAN handle it! It's a bit on the fiery side, but the balance of flavors is incredible, and the spice level is more of a delightful challenge than a deterrent. The Cucumber salad was light and refreshing, and the Honey Walnut Prawn? Mmmmmm....we loved it so much we had to order it twice! The service started off a little dry, but quickly turned into a warm, pleasant and even funny experience that matched the authenticity of the food. To top it all off, the complementary sesame balls served with tea in authentic China-wear were the perfect sweet ending. I couldn't resist coming back the very next day, this time bringing new friends to share in the experience. Highly recommend this gem for anyone craving true Szechuan flavors!

We walked in around 6:30 and we wasn't sure because the place was empty. Then 20 minutes later it got really busy. I liked the fried rice not greasy at all. The honey walnut shrimp was delicious. The orange chicken was a bit dry and the scallion pancakes were a little doughy on the inside. The service was ok. The place is a bit over decorated. The price for our meals were reasonable

This used to be a really good Burmese place but I also like Chinese food. The old place had a lot of outdoor seating but now it has all been taken down. I ordered the Chong Qing chicken, beef chow fun, spicy wontons. The Chong Qing chili chicken was very good. One of the best I have ever had. The beef chow fun and spicy wonton were good but the spicy wonton were definitely not spicy. A lot of seating inside and parking outside.

Spicy spicy spicy!!! So happy there's a real Szechuan restaurant near us now. This used to be a Burmese restaurant that we used to frequent. We only discovered it because the restaurant closed down and we decided to just give it a try since we were already there and we're glad we did. It's been our staple for Chinese food since. You know it's a real Chinese restaurant when you walk in and 90% of the patrons are elderly Chinese, all the employees speak like my Chinese parents (this is not an insult, I am just trying to make a point here), and there are no fancy cocktails at the bar. I love me some fancy cocktails, but honestly authentic Chinese restaurants would not have those offerings. Service is good, food is yummy and you can adjust the spice to your liking if you're not a fan of "too spicy." We always order waay too much and always think we'd have plenty of leftovers, but somehow, we manage to eat most of it. A lot of our favorite small businesses have closed down since Covid so we are hoping they are here to stay!

Szechuan Graden is now the latest restaurant to have taken over this location from the most recent, Aung Maylika. Nestled in before the corner turn onto Sun Valley off Contra Costa, this location does have its own parking lot, and is the only business in the lot itself, so parking is usually not an issue. The decorations for this spot have certainly been made prettier prior to the previous spot, though, some of the ambience of Aung Maylika is still there of course, though, feels a whole lot brighter, and overall is nicer sit down environment inside compared to before. Though, I'm not sure I'm sold on the tacky neon and flashing lights outside that can be seen during the night, but I digress. First off, let's talk menu. The menu here is okay, not a huge selection of things, and the style of the menu does have pictures for just about every dish, so a whole lot of pages for the menu, but overall, not a large quantity of items, though they do have a bit of everything. Still decently sized menu. The prices though, are pretty expensive. Certainly not a place you would just drop by for a quick bite that's cheap and affordable. Food quantity here is, so-so. Not too much, but portions are enough for 2-3 person if you get several dishes. Considering the price of each dish, I would have thought you'd get far more quantity than what they actually give you. The service here is okay. The food took awhile even though there was only one other table there when we were there. The food itself was, just mediocre, as much as I wanted to like this place since new Szechuan is always a welcomed sight, but not in this case. Out of all the dishes we had, only the chow fun perhaps was the only thing halfway decent, and that's not even a Schezuan dish. The potstickers was not good at all, and felt deep fried rather than pan fried. The Dan Dan noodles were not good Dan Dan noodles. Rather than the typical sauce style, this was more of a soup style. Fine, if it has to be this style, so be it, but the soup itself wasn't even good. Tasted like spicy, and nothing else of note was in there other than half effort to make it taste some something. The pork slices with cabbage were okay, but just really salty, and this dish is supposed to be salty, but it was overly salted, and I love salty food and even for me this was too much. All in all, a bit of a let down for what I had hoped to be a new Szechuan spot I could visit. In the end, it just didn't feel like it was worth it. Overpriced menu items, so-so quantity to compensate, and food that just didn't taste all that good to begin with. If you haven't had Szechuan before, this could be a good place to start, but it's certainly nowhere near where it needs to be in consideration of good Szechuan flavors.

Spicy boiled fish fillets was just about average. There was at least 1/3 inch of chili oil floating above the broth which while tasted okay lacked definition. The dish seemed to be missing ma-ness (minimal peppercorns) as well. Swai in broth was tender and fresh-tasting. Salt and pepper chicken tasted crisp and delicious though small in portion. Service was friendly and prompt. Restaurant has an unmistakable old stench (part of the ac was not functioning that day).

    Roger W.

This one I have visited before when they first opened and decided to visit again. I would say this time I don't really have the same experience and can only give them two starts or maybe one. The main thing to me is that things are not as clean as I first visited. The dish quantity still there but I can tasted and see something out of the ordinary. Service is normal. Not sure if I would go back and visit again.

Every time I eat it's like the first time all over again. This last trip I went in for a solo lunch and it was exactly what I needed! I ordered the lunch Mongolian beef as with steam rice, beef chow mein, and their fried prawns! The meal comes with a small hot and sour soup but when I asked if they could leave that out he offered me wonton soup instead which was so nice and unexpected since I know they don't usually allow substitutions. Now on to the taste of everything: Beef Chow Mein - 10000/10 this is one of the few Chinese restaurants I order beef from because their beef is so silky and tender not chewy at all Mongolian Beef - 8/10 super yummy with a nice Mongolian flavor but a little to spicy to eat a lot of. It's a lot better with the noodles or steam rice. Fried Prawn - 8/10 super light and crispy and the shrimp are never fishy or bland, I love the batter it's like a beer batter/ tempura and it comes with a sweet and sour sauce Overall I give Shan Shan Low a 9/10 this place is a staple for me when I want good quality consist Chinese food perfect for a low pressure date or even just meeting with a bunch of friend or family since the inside is so large! Oh also my total was about $43 for all this and me and my partner at the leftovers for dinner :)

I am amazed I have never reviewed this place before. And knowing they are closing down for business…read moretomorrow, I had to come here one more time with my family. This place means a lot to my family and I. We have been coming here before I was born. I have many fond memories of eating here with my grandparents and the delicious food they offered. And finally, I will give it one last hooray before they close the doors. It was packed today, with waiting for lunch taking about 20 minutes before my name was called. I am happy for their business they are getting in the last few days but I would recommend coming here earlier than your anticipated eating time. Family Style Tofu: My all time favorite dish. It is fried tofu in a brown sauce with mixed vegetables. For their lunch special, it came with a bowl of hot & sour soup, fried rice, a crispy spring roll and a fried wonton. All of it was delicious. The tofu was fried perfectly for me and there was ample amount of vegetables. The spring rolls was filling for being vegetarian and the fried wonton was crispy as well. The soup was extra sour, which I personally liked. Although, my one issue was the brown sauce was a bit on the salty side. Still, I throughly enjoyed my meal and had enough leftover for a second one. Ahh, Chef Choy. Been on this planet for almost 35 years and it is tough to see them go. I hope they will open again soon but if not, thanks for the memories and wishing the best for the staff.

You can see the generations and the dudes family has celebrated birthdays, graduations, promotions, and random Tuesday cravings for decades. As a vegetarian, I didn't get to try the meat dishes everyone else at the table ordered, but let me tell you something... the tofu string beans and fried rice were probably some of the best vegetarian Chinese dishes I've ever had. And I do not say that lightly because vegetarian options sometimes get treated like sad side salads The string beans and tofu were flavorful, savory, perfectly cooked, and honestly the star of the table for me. The fried rice was pure comfort food energy. Simple, nostalgic, satisfying. The hot and sour soup personally wasn't my favorite because it leaned a little too tart for my taste, but everyone else seemed to love it. The Fried banana bites with vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream... absolutely unnecessary in the best possible way. Tiny crispy dopamine orbs. What made this experience special was seeing families gathered together in a place that clearly means something to the community. Restaurants like this become woven into people's lives. That matters. Congratulations to the Chef Choy team on retirement. Pleasant Hill is losing a longtime staple and so many families are walking away with memories tied to this place.
