We went to Bamboo Garden today for lunch and absolutely loved the food I was looking for some spicy shrimp dish with vegetables and the gentleman helping us suggested Schezwan shrimp. It was not on the lunch menu but he said they can make the dish for me The soup they serve with lunch specials contains chicken broth. My husband ordered Kungpao chicken with fried rice ($1 extra) and liked it. Service was great and we got the piping hot dishes right away. 09/16/24- Called to order for pick up. The lady taking the orders sounds unfriendly and in a rush saying "What Else? what else?!"Ordered 3 kinds of chow mein- House special, vegetables and beef. And two kinds of fried rice- House special and Beef. They were just typical fried rice, bland, nothing special. The beef cut is so huge, not the finest meat. My main concern is how quickly the fried rice smelled spoiled. There's only one way for the fried rice to spoil that quick- the rice was old or most likely from yesterday or cross-contamination from old and new combined Or just plainly old/spoiling. The weather was not even hot nor warm for the rice to spoil quickly. Not a good thing. I was expecting that I will be able to eat it the following day but after I pick it up around 1PM and by the time it's 5PM- it starts to smell like it was already spoiled fried rice. It shouldn't be like this. Can't go cheap to customers by doing this. People paid for a fresh food and expecting to taste some edible food. Chow mein was just okay. Bland and oily. Paid $69.73 for 3chow mein and 2 fried rice. Not worth the money, the drive and the toll. I was expecting a high quality food based on the reviews and at least a good customer service. I visited for lunch yesterday, hoping to try the highly-rated food. Upon arrival, the restaurant was not overly busy, but nearly every table was dirty--either occupied or still piled high with plates and debris from previous guests. I waited approximately 5 minutes to be seated, which I didn't mind. The host seated me at a table, but that is where the service completely broke down. I was not given a menu at all. For the next 20 minutes, I was completely ignored. I tried multiple times to make eye contact with and call over the staff, but they were preoccupied with clearing the backlog of dirty tables. After the 20-minute mark, a staff member finally approached my table and dropped off a glass of water. As he did so, I immediately asked for a menu, but he walked away without acknowledging my request to continue clearing another dirty table. Despite the positive reviews I'd read, the lack of basic customer service was unacceptable. To wait over 20 minutes without even being offered a menu, let alone having my order taken, is a significant failure. I was eager to try the food, but I ultimately walked out. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight and it was good. We got an order of veg spring rolls, one order of pork pot stickers, 1 order of general chicken and rice. Overall, the general chicken was very good, the pot stickers were good, and the spring rolls tasted like the frozen ones from costco. I am a Martinez native. This place is under new ownership which means new everything including the chef's. I ordered orange chicken, broccoli beef and honey walnut shrimp. Went on a Saturday night, it wasn't too busy which after having the food really surprised me. The food was delicious. It was one of the best hot n sour soups I have had. The General chicken was tasty and we really enjoyed the BBQ pork buns. I highly recommend giving them a try. To top it off the service was great too. read more

If you love spicy, it's a must, the fish is not fried, & it's served in the most delicious, spicy, flavorful broth full of Chinese herbs. This place is fantastic! I highly recommend their hot and spicy garlic sauce. It has a warmth, rather than an overt heat and a rich depth to its flavor. I'm also a big fan of their BBQ Pork Chow Main. The staff is always friendly, and my order is always right. This is the place to go if you're anywhere close by in Martinez. This dinner is listed as: $18.95 Per Person. Fried Spring Roll, Hot & Sour Soup, Mongolian Beef, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Steamed Rice. For 3 add Kung Pao Three Combo (Chicken, fish and shrimp). For 4 add Honey Walnut Shrimp. Mongolian beef was somewhat spicy-hot but good. My wife can't eat spicy. Sweet and Sour chicken had very good flavor. Kung Pau three combo was very yummy, but spicy, YES! Honey Walnut shrimp was AWESOME, crisp with a slight crunch to the honey-glazed shell, and a soft perfectly done prawn inside. I try to get a bit of the honey-walnut with each bite of shrimp...oh my! The white rice was light and fluffy-perfect, a welcome partner for each course. I normally am not a huge eater of Hot and Sour soup, but this was rich and very flavorful. I also had a cold and crisp Sierra NevadaTorpedo Extra IPA or two, to escort each change of flavor into the testing chamber (my mouth), just to cleanse the old pallete of course, and prepare it for the next flavor experience. The extra order of House Special Chow Mein had good flavor and had a little chicken, beef and prawns, no vegetables that I saw. L ike the rice, it was great to mix with one of the other dishes. Noodles were nicely done, not dry. Even the spring rolls were nicely done., not overcooked, freshly made. Everything was very well prepared, clearly freshly made, and the staff was courteous and friendly. In short, it was a welcome pleasure for the palate. Worth to mention, the portions are big. All the meats were lean and tender. A great value, and all around delicious meal with well developed, balanced flavors. We've used this place numerous times for takeout, in fact it's our go to on holidays when most places are closed, to easily and satisfactorily feed a large number of people at the last minute. We like the food a lot, even my American-born Chinese husband approves, and are able to find something for everyone, even the picky eaters and those with allergies. The staff are super nice, friendly. We like the family meal options (probably called something different but that's what we call it) so we can get a range of items and it's easy to work with the staff to add on or modify dishes. The food is ok. Not terrible. BUT they do not know how to run this business well. Terribly unorganized. DON'T order from their website. They don't realize they even have a website. They don't check those orders at all until you arrive to pick up and tell them you placed an order online. But that's after you've sat there unattended for at least 30 minutes. All doordashers wait a very long time for the orders too. It'll take 2 hours for them to figure out the online orders. I'm leaving this review because it's happened to us twice. Save yourself some frustration and walk in to order. They don't answer phones well either. All walk in orders got attended to and got their orders long before us. They are severely understaffed. Yes, the serving size was generous and the price was low, but I found the food quality and taste to be poor. My honey walnut prawns had tiny chips of over browned nuts? Maybe walnuts, I would not really tell. The prawns themselves were okay, but had none of the tasty sauce this dish is known for. Served with a huge heap of gummy white rice with no garnish to be seen. My dining partner to my right has a gigantic heap of lemon chicken big enough for a family, but no lemon in sight. My dining partners all opted for combo platter so they could have ordinary soup and nasty egg rolls that were obviously mass produced, over fried and bland tasteless. Not necessarily a specific fault of this place, but with the cost of food skyrocketing, I just didn't feel like the 80 I spent here was worth it. Nothing was bad per se, but nothing that made me really happy I ordered it. We had chow fun, string bean chicken, Westlake beef soup, salt and pepper tofu, and crab rangoons. The hardest part about moving is finding your go to Chinese food spot. Gave this place a try by ordering the kung pao chicken dinner (which came with fried rice and egg drop soup) and the sesame chicken with an order of the chicken fried rice. They definitely take some creative liberties with their recipes, for example there was corn in the egg drop soup. I've never had that before! The sesame chicken had a peanut flavor sauce on it, also nothing I've had before but I enjoyed it. The rice was definitely bland, not sure how it missed the flavor when it looked like fried rice. The crab Rangoon was also pretty bland too. I'd order from here again to try other menu items because the main entrees (kung pao and sesame chicken) were good. read more
