My boyfriend and I stopped here on a weekend getaway visit to Milwaukee. Service: Amazing, there was a young curly haired gentleman at the counter who greeted us right away and told us to choose whatever open table we wanted (I believe there are only 8 tables in here, so I would maybe call in advance if you are going to go as a large group). Very friendly and very helpful, told us what the condiments were on the table as there were a lot of them. Bagged up my leftovers with some mad finesse right in front of us. Atmosphere: Very clean, small hole in the wall place you wouldn't stop in just by looking at the outside. Parking is hard to come by, but thats how it is most places in Milwaukee. The neighborhood is a little sketchy. Food: Outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the crab rangoons (tests them everywhere) and loved the crispy wrapping and the filling (only wished there was more of it). The sauce has great flavor that you dip them in too, not too sweet and not too spicy. I ordered the fresh spring rolls off the menu and I wish the dipping sauce they serve with it was available in store to purchase. He got the mango salad, at a mild spice level, and they arent playing around with spice levels, it definitely had kick to it. I had the Tom Kha and ordered it as a bowl vs. a cup, BIG MISTAKE. That portion is enough for 3 people FYI (not that I'm complaining-the leftovers were just as good). I can't wait to come back and try more off the menu the next time we are in town. read more

Not big on presentation, but their food is fresh & delicious. I ordered appetizers for a casual get together with a friend. We loved the beef jerky! Also, the shrimp egg rolls, the crab rangoon; the chicken satay, the pot stickers not so much. Their Tom Yum soups are awesome. Put them all on a pretty platter & guests will love them. I travel a lot but live in WI and I love Thai food. Who knew this gem was in my backyard?! This place is a small outfit and has a quaint, not much to look at, interior. It's privately owned and run by a couple. The attention and love they put into the food is amazing. This is hands down some of the best Thai I've had in the world and I've been to Thailand. Bamboo uses quality ingredients and makes the dishes from scratch, it certainly shows!!! If you remotely like Thai you MUST try it! I really enjoyed the Pad see ew, it was delicious! I don't recommend Kow Piak, though. I got the chicken kind and it lacked flavor. The chicken in it was shredded very thinly and hard to chew. I also don't recommend the Kow Poon because of its flavor. read more

We came in for Phobruary which was $5 Pho in February in Silver City in Milwaukee! Bamboo was sooo very satisfying! My family took me here for my birthday and I loved it! The Pho's flavor was exceptional! The extra garnishes were very delicious in our soups! I think my wife's BBQ Pork Pho was ridiculous, yum! The Vege Pho was clean and delicious! I had ordered the House special lo mein. I usually dont write reviews but i was particularly moved to write a review on this order. The house special Lo mein is a POOR dish. They claim it supposed to come with beef, chicken and shrimp. They were hardly there, especially the shrimp that had just 2 pieces. The noodles itself tasted poorly made. I have had the equivalent of this dish from different restaurants and they are markedly better. Please avoid this option. I dont know what order dishes from this restaurant taste like but the house special lo mein was bad and needs work. On the positive side delivery was fast. read more

Quarantine fast food options had gotten boring so I decided to try something different. Saw Bamboo had Thai for me and options for my boring family members. I ordered the Chicken Larb and Tom Yum Soup - both were amazing. I did make the mistake of getting the soup at a level two spicy and won't be doing that again (can't feel my lips) but I still ate it because YUMMMM. The boys got shrimp egg rolls and chicken curry - both tasted great however I took a star off because the quantity of chicken in the curry was disappointing, the container wasn't even half full. Bamboo is an okay place for oriental food. I ordered egg drop soup, Tom Kha soup, vegetable egg foo yung, shrimp egg rolls and crab Rangoon. The egg drop soup was thin, watery and almost neon yellow (reminded me of Webb's chicken flavored soup color). The flavor was so bland. I added a ton of salt and pepper flakes, which helped a little. The crab Rangoon was pretty good. The egg rolls were super greasy and on the bland side. They did have plenty of shrimp in them though. The egg foo yung was good. I loved the sticky rice. Just ate the Tom Kha soup spice level 3. Hot!!! Super delicious though. Would definitely order again! I'd give them another shot in the future. read more

Sometimes you crave spice and really bold flavor. And you're also starving from your current lack of lunch on a day spent in the car avoiding fast food. The sacrifice was well worth it today...and I even got to learn something new. I ate like I wasn't going to be fed for a week. I started with their fresh rolls (#3), non-fried with a blend of pork and shrimp and shredded vegetable filler. Tasty and healthy, or at least the vegetables and non-fried aspect tell me so. The tom yum was awesome, and easily my favorite in the city. Spicy and tangy and I didn't even add pepper to it. A cup was a pretty good size for what I ordered, but the full order looks pretty big on the photo menu. I'll have to come back for the tom kha to do a soup profile. I followed this with the beef larb, cooked (or you can have it raw) and medium-level heat. It was just where I like it, enough to make my lips tingle but not so much that my eyes water. It's roughly minced beef (meaning you'll find bits of tripe and tendon) served in a sauce of what I think are its drippings flavored with fish sauce, lime juice, spices and green onion along with a bowl of sticky rice. I didn't finish all of mine only because my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I honestly think that a cup of the Tom Yum and the rolls (2 to an order) would be a perfectly good lunch that won't make you want to nap. Either the tom or the rolls with the larb would be a complete dinner. Service was simple: polite and attentive. Santana came over to check on me a couple times during the meal as well as the counter server. Dinner also came with a free drink of any choice including beer, but went with a Thai iced tea because I'm basic sometimes, and I too lazy to always make them at home. read more

Fantastic Laotian & Thai food! Very fresh and made with love. Santana is so enthusiastic and takes pride in her cooking. She and her husband are living their dream with this restaurant. I have been there 4 times and have had the papaya salad, mango salad, sticky rice, beef jerky, homemade sausage (not on the menu) Kow Paik & Kow Poun. Everything has been consistent and delicious!! I feel a little guilty because this new authentic Laotian place is right across the street from my favorite authentic Laotian place, and right next to one of my favorite Thai restaurants, but it's new and shiny. Maybe this is how cheating husbands feel, there was a little bit of thrill walking in, the guilt set in walking out. In the space that was Mr. Sebass, they've changed the decor so it's very bright and septic looking. The service from the new (even newer than the restaurant) front end non-Laotian waitress-counter person (usually I don't like this but she educated herself about the food and takes on a full sense of ownership) is very pleasant and competent. The food is quite good, they will make the curries nice and spicy if you ask, the larb is Laotian style and better than I've had anywhere in the area. The volcano chicken is good, but better next door; the pho is good but better across the street. They are generous with the rice, which is a way of telling Asian customers to come back soon. I'm giving this a five star thus far. I was turned onto this place by a Facebook friend who had pictures of what looked like some pretty legit Lao food so I was anxious to stop by for lunch. Upon walking in, I was greeted by one of the owners. The place is a bit small inside, which did not bother me a bit, and really clean. I knew what I was getting before I went in, and like any Thai/Lao restaurant, I judge by one dish, larb (lob), so I decided to order the lob beef. While waiting, the owner and I had a nice conversation about food, the restaurant, etc. All around a great vibe. The food arrived and looked awesome. The larb came with an assortment of Thai bird chilies, thick sliced cucumbers, long beans, a couple types of lettuce, and a generous amount of sticky rice. I tend to eat my larb by balling up a small amount of sticky rice, then swiping it larb. Needles to say I was a bit of a mess mid way through, but the larb was some of the best I have had, hands down. I ordered it medium heat, and the beef cooked medium. It had a bunch of fresh herbs, onions, and plenty of super tender tripe (which I love). The spice was spot on, and the assortment of vegetables played so well with the larb. It was 12.95, which I thought was slightly high in price when I ordered, but when leaving, it was worth every bite. I cannot wait to go back to try some Kow Poon, curry, or some of their appetizers. I would recommend this to anyone looking for authentic Thai/Lao in the city. read more

We were here two weekends ago for dinner. The place was under new management and desperately needed some help. We waited 45 mins to get our appetizers and food. When we asked about our food they just started making it then. The curry fried rice with tofu was regular fried rice and the tofu tasted like a wet rag that was heated in the microwave for a few minutes. The kitchen was extremely unorganized. Those who ordered first waited longer than people who just placed orders... they messed up people's to go orders bad. The chef was very apologetic but his wife laughed it off saying they were so busy. There were two to-go orders and 2 tables including us. Super disappointed given the excellent yelp reviews. This is very sad because my business is in Silver City and I have really enjoyed eating at Bamboo for the last couple years. I heard from a friend that they ownership changed recently, which was very sad because the original owners were a very charming and lovely couple who cooked and served great food. The service was always excellent, even when they were busy and food arrived slow. I have ordered (delivery through postmates) since the change, and my first order was fine. However, today, not so much, and thing things went from bad to worse. I ordered a pad thai and while it was edible, it was not the quality of the old Bamboo food. No spice, no peanuts, bland, and ingredients not looking so fresh. My assistant ordered a stir fry dish and she had cold bits in her food. She said it was like the food had been frozen and then heated up but not thoroughly. I called to complain, and the first man I talked to just said "no, no," and then "wait," and then he passed my call to the cook. (?) The cook (I am not kidding) answered the phone "what do you want?" LOL - I explained (again) and he just said "no no no, I cook the food very hot, you can come and see how I cook." I was so taken aback I just started explaining - listen, I have eaten there many times, and this is the first time we had a complaint, but I think I should call and tell you. And he just continued to argue, belligerently, and insisted I should come into the restaurant and watch him cook. LOL - if I had time to come to the restaurant I wouldn't be ordering delivery and anyway sorry, NEVER AGAIN. Seriously, so sad considering what Bamboo used to be. read more

The Tom kha soup was delicious and thick with ingredients. Pho came with lots of basil which I love. Initially broth was good but not overly flavorful, once you add all the ingredients, it definitely add depth. Egg rolls are perfectly crispy and tasty! The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is not the shrine, but that the place smells like dirty sneakers. Hot tea is one bag of Lipton green tea in a cup. Of course you get a carafe of hot water but Lipton tea is useless for a second brew. The cups were cold when the water was put in so the first/last glass was tepid. I had the lunch special, chicken with pea pods and it came with egg roll and crab Rangoon appetizers. The appetizers were very good but the entree was bland. It could have been improved greatly with some ginger and garlic or cilantro, lime and onion. There is no atmosphere to speak of and the TV was turned to a channel with annoying Vietnamese pop rock which my granddaughter would have loved. read more

Pho is great and the Pad thai is also good. I haven't had a bad meal here. I used to go next door faithfully(Tbbq), but their quality just isn't where it used to be so I came here to try when they first opened. Love it. We're sad that we were just passing through while visiting friends since this would certainly become our go-to Thai place is we lived in the area. The Tom Kha soup was one of the best that we've had. It was extremely flavorful and left you craving more. The garlic chicken stir fry was richly flavored and cooked very well. Chicken larb was awesome! Asked for extra spicy and got it. The spring rolls were also great and served with a peanut sauce. Very clean and fresh flavors. Never had Lao cuisine before but I love it. Thai food drew me here and I have adjusted to the subtle differences in taste and cuisine, and respect how they are different from one another. The restaurant itself was quiet and very clean. I love the couple that own the place. They are humble and came out to talk to us and inquired on the food. I am always supportive of Mom and pop shops, to have a dream and have the chance to live it. The place is clean and I love that the condiments were labeled, clean and each had their own spoon. The food: Pho-bland but not bad. Only 2 options. Meatball/beef and seafood. Khoojpooj-delicious Eggrolls-I'm a sucker for fresh deep fried eggrolls. They were pretty good. Papaya-my new favorite go to. I love the thai style.
