Delicious Thai Takeout today. I got the stir fried glass noodles - I love any place that serves glass noodles! And the Panang curry - surprisingly my favorite of the two - loaded with flavor. I got 3 stars which was the perfect spice. I did order from Uber Eats, but they struggled to find a driver so I went to pick it up. There is a ton of construction on national so that must be why. Wasn't too busy went around 4:40 on a Wednesday during the Phobruary promotion. We were seated right away and served waters promptly. However server came first for our order just before 5pm and then tried not to give us the promotion since it ended at 5pm. I informed her that we arrived more than 15 minutes ago and had been ready to order pretty much upon sitting down. She allowed us to get the special. The pho was very good, I wanted to order a Thai hot chocolate but they were out so she suggested the green tea and it was ok a little different not my normal drink. The egg rolls were okay, but the chicken skewer was very good. I did not order the spring roll my friend did so I didn't try one but they were very nice sized and came with two sauce options. Genuinely surprised by the low rating, this place had a sus name but great solid food for delivery! We were in a hotel visiting and I took a chance based on the pictures despite the low yelp rating and I'm glad I did. The food was solid. Better than most places with delivery in philly. The noodles had char and wasn't too sweet, the Thai sausage was spicy and lemongrassy, the sour sausage was meaty and fatty. The satay was tender and sweet and flavorful. The papaya salad was pretty stinky but had good lime to balance. The only thing that was not as advertised was the boat Noodle. Walked in stood around for about 5 mins. Small cute comfy and kind of dim in lighting. They had a couple people she told me I could sit at any table. Sat down. The table was dirty. She said someone would clean it for me. 10 minutes later she came by to take my order. Ordered the pho the crab Rangoon's and a Thai tea told her I still wanted a water though. Another 10 minutes went by the lady brought my water and cleaned a table next to mine and started to walk away. I asked her to clean my table. She brought me a water after. Asked her for a straw. 5 minutes later I got my crab Rangoon's. Cold. Asked her again for a straw. 15 minutes later I got my phone it came with a spoon and fork. I asked for chopsticks she said okay but I finally got my straw for my water. No bean sprouts no mint and no jalapeños or limes. 20 minutes later I finished my pho. Still no chopsticks. She brought me my Thai tea when I was two bites short of being done. I waited for over 10 minutes for her to bring my check. Never brought it. We've been here twice now and been pretty pleased with both experiences. The waitstaff are friendly and solicitous and very helpful with choosing options. The fresh rolls are fantastic, and that peanut sauce that comes with them should be its own meal, it's that good! I've gotten a couple different dishes here and both were pretty tasty. My husband is partial to the red curry chicken and has really enjoyed it both times. We always have plenty to take home for leftovers as well, which is nice. Make sure you get a Thai tea with milk for the drive home! My only quibble would be that the prices are a little on the high side, but for great Thai it's worth a splurge once in awhile. They seem to get a lot of takeout patrons and not so many dine-in patrons, but that works for me because there's never a wait for a table. Ambiance is cozy and cutely decorated. Really good pho, I go with the raw brisket and they also have a really good chicken fried rice that we like to pair our meal with. Their Thai tea is kind of hit or miss and we let them know that and they changed it up and it is now a lot better. It is a smaller more mom and pop shop so the service tends to be a little slower but worth the wait if you have the time. We have also gotten their takeout and it was just as good as dining-in. My family and I initially went there to buy some Thom Yum soup for my mother, but we stayed to have some appetizers inside while we waited. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with Thai and Southeast Asian decor. The service was excellent and the waitress was friendly. We ordered some spring rolls, crab Rangoons, and some chicken wings. All of the appetizers were freshly made and tasty. I ordered the Seafood Thom Yum soup and my mother was extremely pleased with the quality and taste of the soup that we ordered to go and took home to her. Came here for a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. I was seated and served quickly, as the restaurant only had one other table being used. I didn't encounter any of the service issues other reviews mentioned, so your best bet may be to go at more of an off time Their menu had a lot of interesting options, but I thought for a one time visit their recommended dishes section would be the best bet. I ended up going with the chef's secret chicken. Overall the dish was solid. The sauce tasted good and I can't quite put my finger on the flavor, but it was nothing ground breaking compared to other Thai dishes I've had. The portion size was reasonable given the price, but the chicken and veggies on their own were cooked in a very college dining hall style. The chicken was very thin and if it weren't doused in the sauce it would have been pretty dry. Perhaps I went for the wrong dish but I came away thinking it was a fairly ordinary Thai food experience. The plentiful unique sounding options on the menu would intrigue me enough to come back if I were local, but if you're just visiting town I'd recommend passing. read more

The short of it: if you're planning on coming for the Phobruary pho, know that it is six dollars and it is only available for dining in and you can only dine in with a reservation. You should also plan to call for a reservation way in advance in because they don't always answer their phone. The long of it: Today, I wanted to order carry out. I had just finished grocery shopping at a market nearby I wanted to pick up some early dinner. I called them but the call kept going to voicemail - I called about five times, and it was about 1:45 PM, past the busy lunchtime. Since I wasn't too far away I decided to just swing over and order at the location. I especially wanted to try them out because of the Phobruary event going on this February. We had tried the pho across the street at the Vientiane and theirs was delicious so I wanted to give this place a try too. When I went inside there was a sign at the front saying that the Phobruary far is for dine in only. I decided to order some other things instead since I couldn't eat in today, and waited for someone to come out to help me. There were other people eating in the restaurant but no server anywhere and I stood there waiting for someone to come out and help me for about five minutes. I decided to leave when no one came to the front after standing there like a fool for five minutes. While the Vientiane has it clearly stated on their website that the Phobruary special is for dining only, Thai barbecue does not specify this and is a dollar more expensive. They also say that reservation is required for dine in. So we had planned accordingly, and planned ahead to visit Vientiane for dining and to come to Thai barbecue for takeout. I'm a little ticked off that it was impossible to get this information before actually coming here (it's about a 25 minute drive for me, so I had even plan my grocery run around this) and even then I wasn't able to get anyone to come out to help me. read more

Stopped by for the $7 pho special they have for Phobruary . I was a little skeptical about getting pho at a Thai restaurant but I couldn't miss out on a good deal. The well done steak in the pho was a little tough but overall the taste was there and it was a good portion. I would come back for the $7 pho. We also got the crab Rangoon which was delicious. This was my local restaurant to support today and a long time bookmark so I stopped by for lunch and I thought once again that I would try something different so I ordered the fresh spring rolls and the crispy squid. With the virus you can only get up to front door and not into the Restaurant to pick up your take out. My order took about 15 minutes and I was off with my lunch. First off the fresh spring rolls were smaller than most that I have had before and only has bbq pork in it and no shrimp. The fresh spring rolls were average and not one of the better ones that I have had. The crispy squid smelled so good and looked equally as good. The crispy squid was very tasty with a nice light crispy seasoned coating and tender squid inside. This is a hidden gem in Silver City area of Milwaukee. The service made us feel we were old friends with their welcoming attitude. The servers were super nice, especially Mary. We ordered some Thai food from Thai Bar-B-Que for the first time and really glad they were offering take out and delivery during these quarantine times. We got a Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai and Panang curry. Thanks to DoorDash, they delivered it within 30 mins. I ordered a 4 for spice level and it was super spicy which was great for what I wanted it at the time. The Panang curry was filled with the right flavors and spiciness. The Pad thai was ok, it wasn't as great as I expected, and so was the Tom yum. The Tom yum was kind of too sweet in addition of the tanginess. The tanginess was good for Tom Yum soup but I am not sure why it was sweet. I have to say that they added a good amount of chicken in all the entres and they were very generous with it! I will perhaps go and try out this place once we are not in lockdown and try out other items from their menu. read more

Great tasting Thai food with generous portions. Some of the best Thai food that we have ever had, and we travel quite a bit and seek out Thai restaurants. Very friendly staff. We asked for spicy and they wanted to be sure we were prepared for the heat. We ate in, but there were quite a few delivery people picking up orders. Parking was easy on the street. Ordered delivery through door dash, and I live a good distance away. My food was incredibly fresh, still warm, and tasted amazing. I ordered a pad thai with some potstickers. the pad thai was amazing! I got the mildest version for my first try just to be safe and I think that it's perfectly manageable if you're not accustomed to spice. It didn't feel spicy at all, so I'm excited to try the other levels. The bean sprouts were the highlight of the dish! They were the freshest tasting bean sprouts I've ever had in my life. All of the veggies were delicious and there was a good amount. The chicken wasn't dry. The potstickers were good, but not as outstanding as the pad thai. I would say they rank somewhere in the middle in terms of all potstickers I've tried. Can't speak to the service in the restaurant (remember we're in a pandemic, so be kind to restaurant workers), but I was very happy with the food I received and I will be ordering again in the future and can't wait to try other menu items! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch for my sister's birthday 1:30 there were 5 other groups that came afterwards. We had a mix of 3 apps Thai fried rice curry a noodle dish and a soup, the soup comes with plenty of fresh lime, bean sprouts,Thai basil, jalapeño and lime on the side for you to add later. I wish they had fresh coriander in this mix. Don't forget to ask for the four service condiments. The Thai basil was very fresh and added a light licorice taste to the whole meal. Menus were great each item had a picture with a description. (See pic.) I jokingly said that a few places in the South have menus on a flip card with no words just pictures this is usually for the tourists, or illiterate, I guess.( just point and grunt,nod. ) It works very good here. The fortune cookies were not very crisp, chewy. Didn't feel like testing the Thai tea. I'm not a fan of extra Sweet Tea, sweetie. Atmosphere: 4/5 plenty of decorations. Art and sculpture. I wish the temperature was a little cooler since my face was on fire from the seasoning. They had a window AC unit near the front door. I've been to Thai Bar-B-Que a few times. Most recently for "Pho-February" where this place as well as two other restaurants competed for the best Pho soup for the month of February in "Silver City". My review will start off with ranking the restaurants places for the Pho-February competition. Here is my ranking for the Pho: #1 - Thai Lotus #2 - Vientiane Noodle Shop (really a tie for #1 but if I were forced to choose...) #3 - Thai-Bar-B-Que Thai Bar-B-Que had the worst meat. They only offered beef for the $5 Pho-February. Which I thought... ok, I probably wouldn't order the beef but I guess I'll try the beef at all places to keep it fair! Thai-Bar-B-Que just decided for me. Their beef was by far the worst beef. I'm picky with meat, I'll admit. My description of picky is that it should not contain lots of fat and tendons, which I'd say is not meat. I realize that fat and tendons are near the meat and connected to the meat, but it shouldn't be a major portion of the meat that gets served, just my opinion. Thai Bar-B-Que's menu and the side dishes with the hot pepper and seasonings were disgustingly dirty. It really is a turnoff when they can't keep the stuff that I can see clean, let alone the stuff that we cannot see. I've been here before for the hot pot soup which was very good. I ordered through EatStreet because I was at a hotel before catching a flight without a car. 1.5 hours later, EatStreet still hadn't picked up the food. Thai BBQ called and apologized (not their fault at ALL) they called back later to see if they could come drop off food on their way home cause they knew I didn't have a car. I was hoping to learn about a whole new type of food, or fusion-- Thai BBQ! Sounds awesome! In reality it's just regular Thai food with a LOT of menu options. They do offer "Thai BBQ" as an appetizer which is pretty much just strips of meat with sweet and sour type dipping sauce. I tried both the pork and beef. They were ok, but a lot of the meat was fat and gristle. King & I has a much better Thai beef appetizer. I also tried the pad thai and the special chicken dish. I cant remember the name, but it was something like "secret sauce" or "special sauce" on the recommended menu page. The pad thai was good, flavor was great, possibly more flavorful than King & I which many people have said is the best in Milwaukee. However the chicken quality was just ok. The special chicken dish had a lot of flavor, a lot of sauce, a lot of vegetables, just a lot of everything good. I got it with sticky rice and honestly I didnt notice a difference between it and regular rice. The portion sizes were good for the prices. I will be back and look forward to trying different things. This place is legitimate. Authentic, delicious, and cheap. I had the Panang Curry and a cup of Tom Kha soup with chicken along with jasmine tea. My friend has beef pho. Both of my dishes seemed to have more veggies than what other places include, and I've NO complaints about that. The curry was probably the most flavorful I've had in Milwaukee. The place is a little rough around the edges, so don't expect a fine dining experience. I echo the sentiments about the slow-ish service, but everyone was kind. Also, the dinnerware was gorgeous and there is some really interesting art tucked about the place. Do yourself a favor and make an afternoon of it - Antiques on Pierce is a short drive away.
