Next up on my "best egg roll around" quest is China Town Restaurant. I usually don't go east of 55th when I'm driving on North Ave, so I forgot that I hadn't tried China Town yet until I recently drove past. I looked at the menu on their website and called in an order that met the minimum amount (it was $20, now it's $25) for adding either two free egg rolls, two free sodas, or a free pint of fried rice (I chose the fried rice). My order consisted of a shrimp fried rice plate with Chinese fried chicken and crab rangoon as the sides, a quart of chicken lo mein (the only size available), two chicken egg rolls, a pork & shrimp egg roll, and a free beef fried rice. Visually, the egg rolls didn't look like they were store bought with the pork & shrimp egg roll being noticeably larger than the chicken egg roll and both having different looking texture for the wrap than a typical egg roll. Taste wise, I thought they were both elevated store bought quality. I didn't find any shrimp in the pork & shrimp egg roll and the filling was wet, which in turn made the wrap start to get soggy. I preferred the chicken egg roll, but not enough that I would want it again considering China East's superior egg roll is roughly 6 minutes away. The crab rangoon was pretty basic. Not bad, but not special. The Chinese fried chicken, though, was great. Instead of your average sized sweet and sour chicken, these were large strips and had much more chicken than the usual chicken to breading ratio in sweet and sour chicken. Even without sauce to dip it in the Chinese fried chicken was moist and flavorful. The chicken lo mein was different than any I've had to this point because of its inclusion of snow peas. I'd much rather have snow peas in my lo mein than water chestnuts like some other Chinese restaurants add, so this was a welcome addition. The portion I tried didn't have a ton of flavor from sauce, so that was disappointing. I'm hoping some sauce settled to the bottom of the container and the rest will be more flavorful when I eat it later. Since I was going to eat the shrimp fried rice for this meal and the only difference between the beef fried rice and shrimp fried rice was the protein, I tried a single piece of the beef just to quick review it. The beef didn't have a ton of flavor either, but it was a better quality of beef than I've had elsewhere. I'd probably get pork next time in hopes that it's more flavorful. Lastly and most importantly, the shrimp fried rice. While the shrimp itself wasn't very noteworthy given that it also didn't look or taste like it had been cooked in a sauce and the pieces weren't large, the fried rice was excellent. I will always prefer fried rice that includes eggs and bean sprouts over fried rice that cheaps out with carrots and peas, so that immediately gave me a good impression of China Town since it was the first container I opened. The rice was cooked well and the flavor fantastic. The amount you get, coupled with the two crab rangoon and two large pieced of Chinese fried chicken, makes the fried rice plate an amazing value and something I'd gladly come back for and keep this from being a 3-star review (hopefully it's even better with pork as the protein). As an FYI, the restaurant is currently takeout only and doesn't look like it'll be allowing dine-in anytime soon if ever again.

Old school.

Plenty of space for parking in the back. Dark, smoky atmosphere with Asian interior designs. Perfect ambiance for BBQ! We had both Korean BBQ & hot pot, absolutely worth the price for both. The BBQ was by far everyone's favorite. We recommend the beef bulgogi, beef short ribs, and pork belly--these were the best for BBQ. Since it was all you can eat, we had a few servings of them. There was also a counter for different types of sauce one could get and a dessert section. The hot pot was great as well. We recommend the bone broth and the fish/shrimp/meatballs with it as well as udon noodles. The service was great overall. Our server was busy, but she managed to be attentive with us. We left with our belly full. We will absolutely come back.

We ordered the bulgogi, steak cubes, pork belly, spicy pork belly, beef tongue, rib meat, shrimp, creamy corn, fried buns, and a few other smaller items. The meat was all good quality! Our tables' favorite meat was the bulgogi for sure. We also loved the creamy corn and fried buns. However, beef tongue was so tough though I couldn't even bite into it (but honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy it!). The sauce bar was a fun touch to get exactly what we each liked. It was a little tricky being in a booth and getting people out to make their sauce combos though but we made it work. There is also a dessert bar but nothing was super intriguing to us and we were pretty full from the meal. The only downside was the service. Other servers seemed awesome but our waitress was totally aloof. She missed multiple orders of ours and we had to reorder those, and she acted super confused each time we had to tell her. She didn't give any direction on the process, and each time we wanted to add to the order we had to wave her down. I don't think she proactively checked on us once. A table nearby had the hotpot and that looked really good. We were intrigued and want to come back and try it. All in all, a great experience, and $31 per person for the amount of food you can rack up felt like a really good deal.

The staff is always very nice and if they are busy for some reason, they even have kiosks to order from as well. I'm Korean and love me some Korean fried chicken wings, but going here means I do not have to make them, make a mess in my kitchen, or have to spend time prepping everything beforehand. Yes, I know these are Karaage but they are very similar. I usually get the boneless wings just because I am weird and do not like having sticky fingers when I am eating, so these I can eat with a fork. The crispiness is always spot-on and I love that they give you just enough sauce to give everything a good coat and flavor but not too much that the chicken is drowning. I also really love the rice cakes that they add into the tenders and wings, it's like a nice little chewy treat to go with everything. Their fries are a LOT of fries! My wife and I have learned we can share one order of them. They have a bunch of varieties of seasonings you can add to the fries but I tend to get mine plain and just eat it with ketchup. I love coming here and their little outdoor patio is great when I want to bring my pup or just enjoy the nice fresh air as we eat our meal.
