One of the things I missed most after relocating from the Bay to El Dorado Hills: chè from BAMBU!! I was ecstatic when a coworker told me there was one in South Sac. The Smashed Avocado was worth the 40 minute drive! It tasted exactly how I remembered it. So you're probably wondering why not 5 stars? I give 2 stars to good quality, 1 star to ambience, 1 star for pricing, and 1 star for service. And like most Vietnamese places, service is always lacking so that's where they lost one star. The first time I tried #1 which was the Bambu Special. This time I tried that che ba mau (three colors) that everyone claims to be sooo good but theres just something about it that makes it a tad bland. The coconut water (nuoc dua) in the dessert is so little that it doesn't give the dessert any taste. The green jelly is like frozen or something because it's hard and chewy which I believe is suppose to be soft. The shaved ice makes it even more bland when it melts. i just dont taste any flavor. So I got the Che #10 with pandan jelly, grass jelly, and red tapioca. They ask you if you want ice inside or outside.. it is a HUGE block of ice, and they definitely do not skimp out on the che itself without the ice. So worth it! My current go-to dessert is #6 (WithOUT durian). There is an option to have durian added, but there's just something about that fruit that I can't handle. Is it the smell? Texture? ...Smell? Came here on a Sunday, boy was it packed. Must be great if it's that packed. The interior in here is super modern, if you look at the lights and the color scheme in this place, it goes so well together. Definitely a place to stay and chill. I love how the menu is so detailed. Under each number, there are things listed of what is inside. My favorite is the #10! If I want to go light, I do the #1! But you cannot go wrong with either. I was super tired so I decided to come here for Vietnamese coffee, boy was it real Vietnamese coffee because it was so strong. This is my usual go to place for Vietnamese coffee when I visit Sacramento. But today (8/26/17) was no usual day. Today I came with some friends. Let me tell ya. The coffee was on point today. Very good stuff. I do have to say something that bothered me and my friend. It's hard to carry a conversation in a drink shop like that when the music is blaring out of the speakers. Usually it's a overhang of some of the current and upcoming songs mixed with some classic oldies from Vietnam but today it was just super loud and annoying American pop music. We couldn't leave that restraint any faster. It was a real deal breaker. I will probably return for the coffee. But I will never come back with friends or even to sit down and enjoy my drink. On the plus side. Their bathroom is always clean and conscientious located by their storage space so if you need to pee and are also in a rush for 5-6 cup holders then that's the bathroom for you. Much like Lollicup, Tapioca Express, and Quickly's. This place has its own unique take on boba drinks. I had the Bambu special as recommended by my sister. A coconut drink with a utopia of colorful jelly. Initial appearance render the drink intimidating with odd like jelly. I was told what the names of the jelly were but for the life of me I simply couldn't taste the flavor to each of jelly. The pandan a green jelly in the shape of a worm. Longan a jelly like fruit that looks similar to lychee. Basil seed a clear jelly with a black seed in the middle. And the best part! big chunks of coconut! Sipping on the Bambu special it was a deliciously amazing party in my mouth. I couldn't so much taste the jelly but it was delightfully fun to drink. Unlike the other boba places, you'll be needing a spoon to devour the fresh coconut slices. The drink is refreshing and not too sweet. Probably a healthier choice than a strawberry slush from Lollicup. The place has two TVs and constantly play Korean pop music videos. Odd because I'm pretty sure the people who work there are Vietnamese hah. Although I'd rather be watching sports while waiting for my drink but I'm not the chief. The place is clean and well kept with fancy bamboo like wall decor. Of course one thing I have to mention, as it's grown to be a pet peeve of mine. The cash only option. I will not give a place five stars unless if it does not have a debit or credit card payment option. Its simply an inconvenience for me or any other potential customers who simply wants to give Bambu business but may not have the cash at the time. This place gets 5 stars because there really nothing like it around the Sacramento area. Its a cute little Coffee house that sales Vietnamese dessert. I usually only get 2 things: Che Trai Cay (mix fruit? I think it's #6) with durian & Bo Dam (smash avocados? I think it's #5) both I will give 5 STAARZ!! I think i like the #6 just because I add durian in it! yummy! The drink itself is really good as well. It's like every ingredient that they have is in this drink. There is a lot of fruits and jelly; anything amazing it is in there. Then there is the #5 the smash avocados. When I'm craving for something fattening, I usually want some avocado. My thing...at least its healthy fat. The #5 is avocado filled to the rim, with some mix jelly, some pearls and other stuff that makes it really good. They have some milk and shaved ice! Yumm-e fattening in a cup! =] at least it's healthy fat! There are complaints that they close on Monday but that Asian businesses for ya! Owners of businesses always have to be there when it open and they too would like a day off. Also Cash only, again Asian businesses for ya. Try to bring cash for small or local businesses like this even if they except except debit/credit. Credit card company can charge up to about 20% of what you use on your card! This place does get really crowded! I usually go here after church on Sunday, I swear everyone and their mama from my church is here on Sunday. Why are you guys closed on Mondays? Bambu should open every day of the week - day and night, or even better, to never close! This place is delicious! Very nice variety of cool Asian drinks and Asian fusion smoothies. DRINKS: here's what we got, Number 3:Three Color Drink: the usual, red and white beans, red and green jello bean, and coconut over splashy ice. 4 stars. Number 10: Don't remember what it's called, but this is tasty! It has Chinese grass jelly, red, green jello beans, and coconut over snowy ice. 5 stars. I've heard this place makes really good durian and avocado smoothies and would most definitely come back and try it out! **OVERALL: One thing that sucks about Bambu is they don't take credit/debt cards. I am officially addicted to Bambu. Last week, I caught myself going here 3 times! Everytime I come here, I try out a new drink or Che dessert. My favorite is the Bambu Special which comes with Coconut, Longan, Pandan Jelly and Basil Seeds in Coconut Juice. It is very refreshing. You can create and customize your own Che dessert. Just tell the girls up front what fruits, jellies and condiments you want and they can make it for you. It's a cool hangout spot for the younger crowd but there are a lot of older people who bring their kids out here too, which is nice because you can see Bambu attracts a range of age groups. NOTE: If you like sweets, tell them to make your drink or dessert sweeter or else you will think it is bland. Bambu tries to accomodate everyone and since older folks don't like sweets, they don't make it sweet unless u request them to. read more

I probably shouldn't give out 3-star rating this quickly, I mean after all that was just my first visit at Bambu Desserts & Drinks, but it was a good first visit, and I'm still thinking about how good the dessert was. I came to BDD months ago but then walked out without ordering because there was just too many choices on the menu board and it got to me, I was overwhelmed (did not count this one as 1st visit, it's more of a barely walk-thru). Fast forward to the present time, it was a 105 degrees day in Sacramento - disgustingly hot. As I was scrolling thru my Yelp, I saw a couple pictures of BDD taken by fellow yelpers who were graciously enough to add descriptions to their photos...that helped me make my dessert selection prior to returning to BDD. Came in and was able to settle on #6, a mixed fruits dessert. Actually I was curious about #7 too, but that part of the menu board was covered by the fridge, and the woman behind the counter tried to explain the item but it just didn't sound too appealing, perhaps it's just the way she explained it. I was asked if I wanted to add durian to my dessert (they are so smart, they know to add that fruit in only upon request!) Of course I went for the durian, it was funny when I let my friend smell my delicious dessert - ha! For those who are unfamiliar with durian, it's a tropical fruit, very tasty but has a pungent smell, almost fart-like smell. The dessert comes with lychee, jackfruit, durian, coconut, jelly, and several other things that I can't name. It was sweet, refreshing and so perfect for a hot summer day. My all time favorite Vietnamese dessert go to spot in San Jose, so when I Yelped a place for desserts nearby in Sactown, I saw the name and had to make to trek there to show my Sac friends what's up! Much more spacious than the location in SJ that I am used to. Love that they had quite a few tables and chairs around versus the two tables and bar stools at the SJ location that I normally go to. Favorite Drinks in order of my preference: 1. Suong Sa Hot Luu w/mung bean: My all time fav Vietnanese dessert. Pink water chestnut tapioca pearls (love that they have water chestnut, most places just make it without and chewy), grass jelly (love!), pandan and clear jelly, and coconut milk. Get it with mung bean, more flavor and less bland. Trust me! 2. Bambu Special: basil seeds (looks like eyeballs to me), young coconut pieces, pandan jelly, longan and coconut juice. Refeshing and cool on a nice summer day or any day if you want a picker upper. 3. Che 3 Mau: 3 types of beans, pandan jelly, clear tapioca, and taro in coconut milk. Very rich and filling for me, but it's pretty good compared to other places that serve and sell this dessert. Service is quick and they have so many options of dessert and drinks to choose from. For the price of a Starbucks frap, you get a cup full of awesome. For the first-timer, the menu is a little intimidating. Fear not; just get the dessert #1. It's got a little of everything, and these little tapioca/jelly strands that are unique and tasty! They normally put ice on top, but I don't bother with it. I just ask them to leave it off because I don't want the flavors to be watered down. It's cold without it! There's seating, and it's normally pretty comfortable. Maybe not when it gets too crowded with the younger kids, but that's everywhere... The service is quick (well, they just scoop things into a cup, so it better be quick) and usually friendly, or at least not unfriendly. Just order, give them your cash, and wait two minutes. My mom, who loves her traditional Vietnamese desserts and sweet soups, was a little put off at first. Finally an Asian dessert in Sacramento that is not too far of a drive. =) If you don't know what I am talking about go to this place and check it out. I love red bean and this little shop menu is full with it. My first impression is its a small, well decorated little coffee shop. After I look at the menu I feel like I was in heaven. Red bean all over the menu, so hard to decide what I want. Red bean with jelly. Oh no wait, regular red bean mix with the large and regular size. Oh no wait, the three color red bean mix. Oh wait just the regular is what I went with after 10minutes of pondering. I can't wait to taste this and feel like I was on top of the world.
