It's been awhile since I visited cool tea bar. We were in the area so we decided to grab some refreshers. I love that it's only a 50 cents difference to upgrade to large. I tried the tea bar milk tea with boba and egg pudding. The drinks came out fairly quickly. I enjoyed the firmness of the boba. My friend got the Jasmine milk tea. She didn't particularly enjoy it. She finished the whole drink and felt like it wasn't caffeinated enough. She was still tired after drinking milk tea. They have croffles now! Cute spot with plenty of room in a very busy shopping center. A few stores from SF market. Plenty of parking space but good luck with getting one up front during the weekend. Had their Taro Milk Tea with Boba and Lyche Jelly. Young lady asked "want to make this a large?" In which I replied "why not". HUGE!!! It contained a generous of jelly and boba which I appreciate but the taste was just mid. Mid as in - I've had it better! It has this after taste that just didn't register well to my taste buds. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I walked in, and it seemed pretty empty and no music was playing initially. Strange boba environment at first, but it didn't bug me much. I order a regular Passion Fruit Green Tea with lychee. First off, their sizes are HUGE for the price. It's hard to find affordable boba these days, and this place had great servings. I got their roasted milk tea (best seller) and lychee milk tea which were both really good and not overly sweet. For me, 50% sweetness was perfect. Their drinks are also pretty value compared to other places! A large is only 50 cents more. Overall great deal for the amount you are getting in the cup. I also tried their boba, banana, and Oreo croffles which they make fresh in-house. My favorite was the Oreo croffle since it has a slight crunch with the Oreo crumble. I have a soft spot for this boba shop because I used to come here all the time, but I can't help but feel like the quality has went down a little. Maybe they changed their recipes because I remember the roasted milk tea being darker in color and having a stronger roasted tea taste. Customer service was good, as we were greeted right away and our order was made fairly fast. The drinks here are usually on the sweeter side, so I make sure to adjust the sweetness. The inside of the store was redesigned to look more modern. There always seems to be a distinct smell inside that reminds me of cleaning products, but I do not mind. This place is underrated, it may not be as Instagramable as other newer hip boba spots, but it has never failed me and always consistent. Although they don't have as many unique drinks as other places, the drinks here are legit and very tasty!! One of my go to places given reasonable price for what you get. The Jasmine milk tea here was very delicious! I chose coffee jelly as a topping and asked for pudding too but was given regular boba with it instead but it was all still very good. This Cool Tea Bar has been around for over 10 years and I'm glad this location is still here. I haven't been in about 5 years till recently and they are still good. They've remodeled a bit since the last time I've been there and I like that they have the lower tables now instead of all the high tables. They also have a variety of board games to enjoy while we wait for our drinks. I got the #1 - roasted oolong milk tea with grass jelly. I like mine less sweet and the barista made it perfectly. When I was in Sac w/ my sister, she first introduced me to this boba spot that served boba in a 32oz cup. At first I was skeptical but once we got the drinks, I was STUNNED. My go to drink has to be their kumquat green tea w/ boba, 100% ice and 75% sugar. This is my fave drink as it's so refreshing & the boba is not too soft or hard, perfect chewy consistency! The prices on their menu are not up to date along with pricing for their regular size and now, Jumbo, size (used to only be regular and large) but you do get your money's worth with the Jumbo. I usually order a standard black milk tea with boba, but on one occasion I stepped out of my box and ordered a jasmine milk tea (no sugar because I love the tea) with strawberry popping boba. The drinks at Cool Tea Bar are priced reasonably and that's what would get us to come back if we're ever in the area again. The drinks are extremely sweet so you should scale back the sugar to 75% or even 50% if you don't have a sweet tooth. I ordered the oolong litchi at 100% and it was extremely sweet and the flavor didn't suit my preferences. It might just because I'm not a huge fan of roasted flavors. I enjoyed the Jasmine Green Milk Tea more, but still only thought it was "ok". As for the passion fruit tea, the drink was also just ok, but it had a syrupy taste and was also way too sweet. I usually order 100% sweet at other boba shops so I was surprised when I tried these drink and thought they were overly sweet. I've been to this boba shop several times over the year. My girlfriends and I have always enjoyed their drinks. Not a whole lot to dislike other than the fact that their milk tea is premixed (which means you can adjust the amount of milk or tea based on your preferences). During our most recent visit, we ordered a few Jasmine Milk Tea drinks with different topping. I ordered mine with grass jelly and I did appreciate how the grass jelly actually had a hint of sweetness. The menu offers all sorts of fruit tea, milk tea, and smoothie options. The BEST place for your money's worth! A large is HUGE & typically between $4.50-5.50 (depends on what you add in). Huge, as in, definitely enough for 2 people. All of their teas are freshly made and not overly sweet. My go-to drink is a mango green tea with lychee jelly & boba. So amazing! Main distinguishing factor of this establishment are the large portions for drinks as they come on either a 24 or 32 oz cup, which is awesome if you just can't get enough of boba! I do wish that they offered more variety. Everything on their menu is something you'd be able to find at any boba spot within the Sacramento area. Even their Top Sellers menu is pretty standard. Note that they don't offer food here. I tried the Matcha Red Bean Smoothie and was pleased by the good flavor and smooth consistency of the drink. They do allow you to customize the drinks' sugar level, per their menu, but was disappointed when they didn't offer for this customization to be done. Service was friendly but somehow our order got misplaced and took nearly 15 minutes to be completed, after we reminded them. Overall, not my favorite spot, but it's decent and I love the massive serving sizes. read more

Personally, I think this "tea" thing is a bit out of control. Outside of the big playerd in the tea game, you really need to do something different to standout in this competitive landscape. With that caveat, I had a really good experience here. Cool Tea Bar does a couple unique things. They utilize some unique flavors such as kumquat and (at this location) red bean. I could be wrong, but I don't typically see these flavors at other establishments. The kumquat/lemon green tea is incredible and the red bean milk tea really takes me back to my childhood. Came here on a late Fri night around like 9/10pm and was surprised at how empty it was! Always thought all the college-aged Asians would be poppin around at a boba place like this! Came here after eating the largest meal ever with my 3 girl friends at Heat Shabu Baru. It's the only place in this plaza that's opened super late I guess, so there's like no cars out front for parking (rare case nowadays right?) Order: Tea Bar Milk Tea, aka regular black milk tea without toppings (I've been on this non-boba eating phase in an effort to not become obese and not feed my boba addiction). The really great thing about this place is that their regular size is like another place's large, but for about the same price! Love it. The vibe is chill: board games to play, a tv playing good music, open space, and lots of tables. The menu is relatively concise but there's definitely something on that menu for everyone. They have two sizes, regular and large. The regular is like the regular size everyone knows. The large is 32 oz. Surprisingly, most of the drinks were only 50 cents to get a large versus regular. Even better, this place is relatively cheap! I ordered a large mango green tea ($4) and added boba ($0.50)! That's 32 oz of boba for $4.50!!! Definitely worth it especially how hot Sac can get at times. You can also adjust sweetness levels if you don't want your drink at a certain sweetness! A 3.5 in my book. I've been curious to try the drinks at this shop and finally had the chance to explore with a friend since we were in the area. My friend had mentioned that this drink shop is a chain and originated in SF, so I was expecting the drinks to be pretty good. Upon entering, the shop was pretty quiet, and there was only one other customer who already had his drink. The shop was clean, and there was a shelf full of board games for customers to use. Because I didn't know what to order, my friend ordered first (and we ended up ordering the exact same thing). We ordered their #1 drink from their Top Seller menu, which was the grass jelly roasted milk tea with less ice and 30% sugar. I was excited to see on their sign that the grass jelly and boba was made fresh daily! It's tough finding a place that makes their grass jelly from scratch! The excitement went away after taking my first sip of the drink. Let's start with the good stuff -- the grass jelly was solid. You can tell it wasn't from a can, and it's not overly herbal tasting. The sweetness was just right for me at 30%. Now, the not-so-good stuff -- the milk tea tasted watered down. My friend noticed the same issue with her drink too. In a way, I was glad I didn't get the large size drink because it would have been disappointing to get through (although maybe that would have meant I get more grass jelly...hmmm...). I would go back for the grass jelly or if I wanted to give this place another try. Otherwise, there are plenty of other places that I know won't disappoint!
