Although I have tried many things here, I only order the same drink every time which is the Strawberry Fantasy with grass jelly and red tapioca. Now I was never a big fan of Che or all that coconut tapioca dessert even when I was young. I do however, really like their other drinks here. I love that you can chose any tapioca in your drink and they won't charge you any cent more. There is a great selection of tapioca stuff you can put in your drink. I don't remember all of it but they have it on display. My absolute favorite tapioca is the red tapioca! There's something about the texture of it that I love. It's hard on the outside but chewy on the inside. It kind of remind me of a pomegranate. Whatever it is, I'm in love with it! Price ranges from $3-4 I believe. It's not bad because they don't charge you for any additional tapioca. The environment in there is very Vietnamese I would say, but of course it IS a Vietnamese shop. They have two TVs where they are always playing Vietnamese music shows and what not. The interior is made to fit the name of the restaurant. Bamboo modeled chairs and tables. I come here on certain occasions and I always order the same thing. I guess I just can't get pass that red tapioca. I tried BAMBU for the first time this weekend. They have a huge selection of drinks and desserts. It took me a while to decide what I wanted. The dessert number 10 is what I always get! I love this place but am unable to give 5 star rating due to the inconvenience of the cash only policy. I do not typically carry cash with me, so to have to have cash with me to order anything is a GREAT inconvenience. The drinks are always delicious and the option for a large one which is quite big, is really nice. I usually split the drink with my fiancé. The outdoor seating is a nice option as well. The amount of space to sit inside is small, so take your drink and go or sit outside. If you are in need for some water with your drink, they have complimentary iced water and water cups available! I was excited to try this out since based off the reviews and pictures it reminded me of a Korean dessert called "Patbingsu" but in drink form and minus all the fruit. But it was nothing like it! Now, my favorite place for smoothies, chai tea, and boba drinks! It is a cute little corner coffee shop in the shopping center on the NE corner of 65th Street and Stockton Blvd. You can't miss it because there is usually a nice crowd standing in line waiting to be served. You place your order, then either sit, if there is somewhere to sit, or stand nearby for your name to be called. My favorite smoothies are the Lycee and the Honey Dew... Wow! Their prices include the boba at the bottom of the cup, but you can opt out of it it you don't like the gelatin balls. However, the prices are the same with or without boba. I love this place!! I usually order the che ba mau (tri color dessert) or the che trai cay (fruit dessert). When I'm not in the mood for chewing, I stick with the delicious peach milk tea. I really like the pandan jelly they have. It kinda looks like thick bright green worms and have a wonderful chewy consistency. I also love any dessert with jack fruit. YUM!! One thing i DO NOT recommend is the thai tea. It tastes like it came straight from a bottle and not prepared in the kitchen. Some people complain that the che desserts are too bland, but lots of Vietnamese OG's don't like super-sugary desserts. That's why lots of 'em prefer fruit basket cakes for birthdays instead of chocolate cake...not too sweet!! However, you can let the cashier know that if you want a sweeter dessert, and they will gladly take your request. Some other things i enjoy about Bambu: 1. they always have entertaining Viet/Korean/Hong Kong music videos on the flat screens. 2. The place is always clean and well AIR CONDITIONED. 3. I've tried several of their dessert drinks (aka che) including the Bambu Special (#1), Che Ba Mau, Coconut Milk Tea, Lime smootie and others that I can't remember the names to (#3, #4, #8 & #10). But I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE their Bambu Special dessert drink (coconut, coconut juice, green jelly, longans & basil seeds)!!! It's a very refreshing drink, tastes less like che & perfect for those hot CA days. I would say that this place tastes the same as their SJ location. But for those who knows che very well, expect to pay at least $3.25-$4.25 per drink...a little more than those hole-in-the-walls but they use fresh coconut! Definitely worth it! We were in town visiting a friend for the day in Sacramento and it was a blazing 105 degrees outside for the whole entire day. The #6 under desserts was so good :) and their smoothies were a little sweet but they come with two options of different types of jellies and we got the boba and the combo kind. Later on, we came back and got the #20 - don't get it, it was random. I was so happy to hear that they have stores all around the US and I immediately told my friends in DC and also back in SF. This is a very belated and highly overdue review of Bambu. I had never heard of bambu until a few of my co-workers mentioned it to me a few months back. Boy was I missing out! Since then, bambu has been my #1 choice for ice cold desserts aka che. :) First thing I tried was their che 3 colors. Yes I said "che 3 colors" which is the literal translation of "che ba mau." I've tried che 3 colors before at other places and you can see a distinct 3 colors in the che. But at bambu it's not che ba mau, it's che multi mau (color). lol With that said, it was still very delish and extremely filling. The 2nd time I came here I ordered the combo che aka che thap cam. This che is basically a combo of everything and has been my go-to che whenever I order on the fly. It has boba, coconut, pandan jelly, taro, red bean, mung bean, some other jelly and coconut milk. YumMo! My favorite. I've also tried their bambu special, and I didn't particularly like it. It was the little chia seeds (ok they're not really chia seeds, but they look like them when you dissolve chia seeds!) that bothered me. Not very flavorful in my opinion. I've since branched off to che #14. haha I can't remember the name but I know the ingredients by heart. It consists of pandan jelly, taro, red beans and coconut milk. The red beans come in 2 sizes small and large. I always get the smaller red beans because those are my favorite beans whenever I eat any type of che. Very delicious and it is my 2nd favorite. I have also tried che #4 which has like grass jelly, pandan jelly, those red ball things ( i dunno what they're called) and I didn't like it. Ok, I maybe just a *tad* picky but the smell was too overwhelming. I also didn't like the red balls. I've also tried their other popular che which is the Avocado Smash aka Bo Dam. It's basically an avocado smoothie mixed with boba and jelly. I don't particularly like it but I know A LOT of the customers do. For me, I absolutely loathe avocado smoothies. I'll eat the avocado with sushi or smash it for guacamole but I won't drink the avocado. So if you like avocado smoothies, this one is perfect for you! Be warned, when the weather gets warmer this place gets very packed & the lines are insanely long. Noise level is medium to loud and can get louder with groups. Located in an ideal location in the center of asian shopping centers with Duc Huong sandwiches nearby and Huong Lan sandwiches across the street. Also, for newcomers, if you're coming from like say a very large meal...the che will make you even fuller!! So be prepared for that! They also have boba drinks too, although I've never tried them. read more

This place is amazing when you are craving for something sweet. There is so many choices to choose from on the menu. You can also customize yours if you don't want a certain item in it. The Cons are that there is only ONE bathroom that everyone has to share, and the interior tables tend to be too hot because they're put right by the big windows where the sun shines thru, and they don't have sun protector/shade curtains either. However, parking is easy and service tends to be quick. I really wish Bambu was more study/work friendly though but it's not... nonetheless the drinks are great, and worth coming for. One of the things I missed most after relocating from the Bay to El Dorado Hills: chè from BAMBU!! I was ecstatic when a coworker told me there was one in South Sac. The Smashed Avocado was worth the 40 minute drive! It tasted exactly how I remembered it. So you're probably wondering why not 5 stars? I give 2 stars to good quality, 1 star to ambience, 1 star for pricing, and 1 star for service. And like most Vietnamese places, service is always lacking so that's where they lost one star. This time I tried that che ba mau (three colors) that everyone claims to be sooo good but theres just something about it that makes it a tad bland. The coconut water (nuoc dua) in the dessert is so little that it doesn't give the dessert any taste. The green jelly is like frozen or something because it's hard and chewy which I believe is suppose to be soft. The shaved ice makes it even more bland when it melts. i just dont taste any flavor.
