Had lunch here with 5 co-workers. Everyone liked what they got- Pad Seewei, Basil chicken, Chicken fried rice, Bamboo Shrimp. The lunch specials come in these cute boat shaped bowls. The food was very flavorful and the portions were good. The restaurant decor was very nice too. Would have given five stars but the service was a little slow and it took a while to get to-go containers. But overall a nice find in Elmhurst. Much better than Nathan's Noodles, IMO!!! read more

The chicken satay was pretty weird .. rubbery is the best way to describe it. It was hard to cut into or tear apart w just a fork. The peanut sauce wasn't the worst I've ever had but it was more thick than I'm used to. The noodles in the chicken lard nar were cooked crispy - which I love! so that was great, but not everyone likes it that way or expects it to come that way. The chicken had the same weird chewy consistency as that of the satay. The "sauce" was more like broth or soup and less like gravy. Also, it came out scalding hot! And remained so for a good 5 minutes at least. Lastly, and most disappointingly, the Thai iced coffee .. super gross. Not nearly enough milk/creamer and the coffee tasted very bitter, like old coffee. Hindsight thought: the chicken satay and chicken in the lard nar looked and tasted like chicken thats been cooked already but then left laying around and then later reheated/microwaved. read more

YUM! Had dinner here tonight and boy was I impressed. After reading the other reviews, I had a few reservations about eating in the restaurant vs take out. However, as it was a Monday night I decided to chance it. We arrived around 7 and there were a few tables, and lots of take out, however, our waitress was super fast and friendly. We got our apps in just a few minutes and we were able to enjoy all of them before our dinners came out. The pot stickers were awesome, coconut shrimp tasty, the rangoons good, the sauces super yummy. My main course was some of the best pad si-ew I have had, and my girlfriends chicken with rice noodles were extremely tasty. Portions are very large so you do get a lot of bang for your buck. I am a big fan of the crab rangoons with the homemade sauce. They were excellent. My go-to meal at any Thai restaurant is pad thai with tofu, hold the sprouts. The tofu and noodles were cooked well but as far as flavor goes, I wish it had a little more. The whole thing tasted bland to me. The staff was very nice, always on top of water refills, and got out food out quickly. So that's a plus. As far as thai goes, it isn't my favorite but worth it if you need a fix. read more

The best Thai food around and and I've tried most of them City and Burbs. Easily the best Tom Yum I've ever had. The shrimp were so fresh they could have been swimming around just minutes before. Another one of my favorites is the duck in red curry. Also good: ground chicken salad in spicy lime dressing, eggplant salad, pad see ew. I've sent tons of friends here and they all just rave about the quality of the food, including some who've actually been to Thailand. Nice decor too (for a small strip mall place) It's run by two sisters who obviously care a lot about the quality. We started with the shrimp rolls as appetizers. They were fantastic so we got very excited. The Tom Yum soup was good but the only seafood they had was shrimp. My husband ordered the Curry Duck with pineapples and he felt the curry overpowered the duck. I had the basil chicken which was very good. Overall the place was good not great. read more

I have been going here for 5 years and have been here maybe 15 times total. I would say the food is okay (nothing special but it isn't bad). The big thing is that I would not recommend this place for large groups. This is my go-to Thai place in Elmhurst. I love the panang noodle chicken. It is the perfect blend of a creamy coconut curry over crispy wide rice noodles with a hint of heat. You can also choose how hot you want it. The portions are huge. I required 2 takeaway containers one time to take extra pad si-ew home! The sticky rice portion is for at least 3 people and is a delicious decadent dessert. I've never had a bad meal here. It was OK at best. Hate to say this out loud and about a thai restaurant but the food was bland. Tom Yum was a bit boring and Pad thai just didn't knock it out of the ball park. I am astounded by the unprofessionalism of this establishment. My family and I were looking forward to a relaxing evening of take out thai food. Sadly, we had anything but that! After taking our order incorrectly for Panang Noodle Chicken (they heard just Panang Chicken) we asked if we would please pick up the noodles. The person we spoke to said that it was their mistake and that they had given us rice. We said that was fine but can we please pick up noodles and specifically asked if it we would not be charged. However, they did charge us and made us feel that it was our mistake! They were cheap and said that because they gave us rice (which we didn't eat) we would now have to pay for the noodles. This the best Thai food I've eaten in Chicago land area. The Yellow curry in this place is simply delicious. I'm NOT a fan of sweet potatoes, but in their curry they taste amazing. The restaurant has a very homely feel to it. The Ginger tea is strong and really heart warming. Dishes served in fun Thai boats which is really a nice touch. Fairly priced lunch specials but make sure you have time because there's only one waitress. Prepare to be ignored for a good 5 to 10 minutes after you're seated. Chicken can be a little overdone sometimes but overall a good meal. Lot's of generous fresh veggies accompany meals. read more

It's hard to find good Thai food in the area. The Pad see ewe is really good. The portions are pretty big and it's a good place to share in order to try different entrees. Prices are decent, maybe a little pricey, but the food makes up for that. It's tucked away behind a gas station next to other businesses, but the inside is pleasantly nice. A good place for families and couples. During lunch, it is semi busy but one can be seated right away. During dinner, they are usually very busy, and it is hard to order out...so call ahead. read more

I've only eaten at Bambu Thai once. It had all the makings to be great, but didn't quite get there. I love it spicy but I know that Thai spicy can melt your esophagus and innards so when their options are mild, medium, hot... I asked for between medium and hot. Had I know, I would have ordered it extra hot. Each dish had great flavor but it lacked that little extra pizzazz that spices offer. The service was so so. My favorite Thai place in Elmhurst (and the surrounding area)! I have yet to be disappointed. I almost always order a noodle dish (Pad Lard Nar) and I can't get enough. Huge portions, good flavor. This place is amazing! My husband and I have tried close to 20 Thai places in the Chicago area and this place is our number 2. Their prices are a dollar or two above normal but that's ok because the portions are huge. Get at least two things and split. The food is excellent too, but the crab rangoon is skimpy on the stuffing. You can't go wrong with this place. Bambu is hands down one of the best Thai food places in the Chicago suburbs. I have tried several and nothing quite matches up to the quality of food that Bambu gives. Usually when I go I get the Basil Chicken and Rama Chicken with their fried rice. Even if you don't manage to finish everything these items make for great left overs the next day. The owners are very nice people and have been running this place for the longest time. The only downside to is that during peak hours be aware that their service tends to run a little slow. Stick to ordering take out! However, overall this place has the best quality Thai food around. read more

My family and I have been eating at Bambu Thai for about 8 years now. We have never been disappointed. I have had many of their dishes and, again, never been disappointed. They do a great Pad Thai and Pad Si-ew. The Sweet & Sour Chicken is great, and the chicken is not deep-fried, which is a real plus. Personal favorites are Cashew Chicken, Broccoli with chicken (includes more great vegetables than just broccoli!), and Panang Curry as well as Red Curry. This placed is tucked away and we've noticed even long-time residents aren't always aware of it. We've introduced a number of people to the place and everyone has raved, even city snobs who are used to suburb Thai places being less than stellar. Lunch-time can be very busy. Dinner-time is quieter with most folks doing take out, which means you can have a quiet meal with only you and a couple other people in the place. The servers/owners are wonderful too. There are probably a half dozen Thai places within 10 minutes or so of this spot in Elmhurst. I've been to all of them and Bambu Thai continues to top my list, and the list of my wife and kids. Out of state relatives often insist on a meal from Bambu Thai when they're in town too! read more

Let me start by saying, I'm addicted to Massaman Curry. Since relocating to the Chicago area in April, I've been searching for a decent Thai place. Unfortunately, this isn't it. I visited Bambu Thai last week, having lunch around 1:30pm. The place wasn't crowded, only 3-4 other tables occupied. I ordered the Chicken Massaman Curry, no onions. When my meal came, it had red and green bell peppers in it. I didn't remember that when reading the menu description, but ate it anyway. When the waitress left the bill on the table, I noticed it said "Yellow Curry", so she had written my order down wrong. Hmmm...okay food, but not what I wanted, so kind of annoying. I decided to order the Massaman Curry to go and share with my husband that evening. It wasn't very good either. Even though I ordered it spicy, it barely had any heat to it.
