They cut the cucumbers super thick which was not my favorite but I can pull those out. The pork was tender and not all fat which I was pleasantly surprised by. They have new bbq buns...dont bother. It was a large yeast roll filled with bbq meat. I liked the yeast roll because duh, I am southern but the meat did not strike my fancy. Food poisoning. Not a stranger to Vietnamese grilled pork sandwiches- I was excited to try their breakfast variety. Something tasted way off from the start. I pulled off the cucumbers which were clearly soggy and slimy. Between the grey eggs, foamy and not cooked to order that had an unreal texture to it and the disgusting tasting mayonnaise , I can't be certain what made me ill. I ate a third of the sandwich, then threw it away. I felt nauseous the whole day and returned home to spend the next twelve hours in the bathroom. I've been through PDX many time and so far the best sample both the chicken and pork bahn mi sandwiches, both were delicious! My colleague had the pho, he said it was very good as well! I really want to like this place but it's just not great Vietnamese food. I think the tipping point for me was the chicken Bahn Mi I had the other day. The chicken was SOOO dry and the bread was quite stale. I've had the grilled pork before which also wasn't great but the chicken was so bad I had to write a review about it. Wanted to eat here but couldn't. They have a vegetarian pho on their menu that comes with vegan broth. I was very excited because I love pho and was incredibly surprised to find vegan friendly pho at an airport. Yes, even in PDX. When I went to order the guy at the counter mumbled something about them not having it. I though maybe because it was breakfast time they weren't serving yet and asked. Due to a broken airplane I had the opportunity to eat a real breakfast here at PDX. Service was quick, and the people were friendly. I chose the breakfast bowl, which is kind of like a Vietnamese-fusion version of bibimbap. It's a bowl of rice with scrambled eggs, veggies, properly cooked bacon(thanks for that, I hate my bacon crispy), and some sweet chili sauce. I dumped a ton of sriracha on it to give it a bite and all was good. All in all, it was a decent meal, and I would recommend it as a convenient, and pretty ok breakfast. read more

Stopped by here last night (Sunday night) to get something to eat to-go to take on my flight. I ordered the chicken bowl, but they were out of chicken. I settled for the pork bowl and had to wait TWENTY minutes for my to-go order. While I was waiting, two separate customers complained - one for incorrect/incomplete order, and another for the wait time. The pork bowl itself was great - a little overcooked on the pork but the flavor was excellent and complemented well by a few packages of take out Hoisin sauce (I grabbed a couple of these as I prefer it to the fish sauce that comes with). This place has potential - fair pricing for food far better than Burger King or usual airport fare, however, I think they either need to hire additional staff or better prepare the existing staff to handle the volume of customers airport restaurants bring. I really love their Banh mi sandwich but their staff is extremely slow and often seem confused when you order. People at the airport usually have limited time to order food. but again, their banh mi sandwiches are delicious. So I have to give plenty of time. I like going to the Bambuza close to my house and was expecting this to be similar but I was wrong. I ordered spring rolls and egg rolls and both were disappointing. The usual spring rolls I get are of course freshly made and full of veggies and served with delicious peanut dipping sauce. The ones I had here was a sad deflated version that was pre made and looked like they were sitting at the counter for days waiting to be purchased. They were also super skimping on the peanut dipping sauce. Egg roll was warm but not very crispy probably also because it was pre made and just sitting under the thermal lamps for a longtime. Every time I come home from a trip, my mom always has pho ready for me. It's amazing. Unfortunately, I'm currently stuck at PDX waiting for my flight back to San Jose, and I stumbled on Bambuza and was beckoned by the smell of their broth (Portland - you would have a Vietnamese restaurant in the food court, wouldn't you.) Totally coming out of Yelp retirement and giving this place a 5 stars for airport food. Their pho is legit. They nailed the broth, noodles, and even the beef. For those of you who are regular pho eaters, their beef pho is comparable to a pho tai. The broth was flavorful, their noodles fresh, and the beef soft. Great value too. I would say this is a regular size bowl (I had a hard time finishing it) - most places in the Bay Area charge about $8-9 for that so to me the price ($10.50) totally makes sense. Seriously, to find this at an airport is mind boggling! The entire kitchen and wait staff seem to be Vietnamese. We were in mourning because Pok Pok (outside of security) closed RIGHT before we got to the airport. I was craving some Asian food so we settled on Bambuza (after security) for a quick bite before our flight. Bambuza has pretty decent airport food with reasonable portions and prices (for an airport, not vs. your local Vietnamese joint). This place is like an oasis in the desert. I've never had Phò in an airport before. What a great idea! The beef broth was tasty. Slightly saltier than I normally get but not overwhelmingly so. Beef Phò came with just thin sliced beef which was cooked bit not overcooked. If you ask for basil & sprouts they can give you some but they won't give it to you unless asked. The meal was pretty filling, like ordering a small Phò at a normal Phò place. The broth was pretty hot and it slightly burned the roof of my mouth but I was impatient, so that is on me. The wooden chopsticks were good but they serve the soup with a disposable plastic bowl and spoon. I wish that they had a more sustainable setup here being that Portland is pretty progressive. Not (God forbid) clam chowder. Then, there it was: pho. Warm, satisfying, rich, filling but not heavy, beautiful beautiful pho. Minutes later (set back $21 for the beef pho, shrimp fresh rolls and a glass of oyster bay) the color had returned to my skin. The world was no longer disconcertingly rocking. I was saved! Was it the best pho ever? No. But the broth was rich and delicious, the meat was tender, and the ingredients tasted fresh. Bambuza is a unique pho experience. It is not like a traditional Pho/Viet place but the food is tasty and the variety is a good offering for they airport location. I have tried the Pho with beef it needs Thai basil added. I like the salad rolls but they are not like any traditional fresh roll I have had at most Pho places around the country. In Portland they are called salad rolls, elsewhere they are called spring rolls. I have not tried it but I hear the vegetarian or tofu pho is good and well as the chicken pho. If you are seeking a refreshment and respite from TSA on the far side of security, you are faced with limited food options. A word to the wise - don't pick Bambuza. Unless of course you enjoy shoe leather posing as fish sauce-marinated chicken, cold rice and gray vegetables. Tofu Banh Mi and a side of food poisoning. After looking at the menu online I was excited to try this place before flying out on Friday. The tofu Banh Mi was pretty plain and disappointing. It was tofu, carrots and cucumber. No spread, no peppers, no cilantro, spice or kick. The good part was that it was large and filling. I also ordered tofu salad rolls that made me VERY sick. Like both ends kind of sick! This is not how I wanted to start my vacation! I had a very short flight to San Francisco and ate the rolls after landing, within 20 minutes, I was throwing up, 30 minutes later, the other end. (I did not eat or drink anything on the flight) This continued for most of the night. Never again, Bambuza. This is not authentic Vietnamese food. I got vermicelli noodles and they were really bland. This dish is typically paired with fish sauce and instead they gave us sweet and sour sauce, yuck. Airport food already has a low bar but this lowered it even more. I definitely would skip right over this place next time. read more
