Chose this breakfast place because it was recommended by a local. We enjoyed the atmosphere, people watching, but service was slow and not friendly or attentive. My latte was spot on and delicious. The Crepes dry and I know the teens were looking for the strawberries and "no whip cream?" The croissants were tasty but dry and looked thrown together. The breakfast potatoes were greasy and still raw inside. Tried to get the waitress attention to see if we could order extra fruit and if the potatoes could be redone, only got her to stop to drop the check. Right in ducal street steps away from the Southern Most Point. This restaurant was amaaaaazing!!!! The food! The vibe! experience! The staff! Everything! If you're looking for a breakfast/brunch/lunch spot to start off the day in Kew West, I highly recommend Banana cafe. We ate in the dining room on the first floor, but next time I want to eat on the upstairs patio. I had la island salad and my boyfriend had the curry chicken sandwich. I am over whelmed by the bad experience I had this morning at the Banana Cafe on Duval st. Was told is was going to be a 5 minute wait and ended waiting 20 minutes outside. Got seated and had to get the waiters attention to order drinks. Drinks took a while to come out for 3 waters and 2 coffees. We ordered our food and waited for close to an hour for our food. I ordered the steak and eggs and it was underwhelming and COLD!!! I ordered the steak medium RARE and after waiting for a century it came out WELL DONE! The toast was also burnt. All three meals were cold like they had been sitting out for 30 minutes which is interesting considering the wait for the food. We were so frustrated that we asked the waiter for the checks and paid in cash so that we could leave. The only time to waiter ever talked to us is when she took our orders. She never asked us how the food was or if she could get us anything. The service was below embarrassing! I definitely will not be returning here to eat. read more

First off, my lobster BLT was delicious, and if I were to rate this place on the food alone, I'd have to go with five stars. My lobster BLT was loaded with huge chunks of lobster and dressed in oh so yummy bacon. Now, would have personally slathered the lobster in melted butter, but this is a small point. However, my major issue was how my waiter seemed to place a great deal of his focus on other customers near me. I had sat at the bar well before a young couple who set near me, and he took their order first. They ordered coffee and were in and out in ten minutes. Afterwards, two young ladies sat in their spot and ordered desserts, and again, my waiter seemed to expend a great deal of energy making sure that they were happy. Now, to be fair, I had spent the afternoon trudging up from Mallory Square and probably didn't look like I was capable coming across with a solid tip; however, I had stepped up for a $20 sandwich without blinking an eye so that should have been a clue to some tipping potential. Super cute and cozy cafe. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. There was a good amount of salmon on the Norwegian salmon and Salmon & bagel dishes and food was fresh. I took off a star because the wait for food was long (about 30 minutes), and the side of potatoes were slightly cold. If you come, there may be a line outside but the wait was pretty short. I was expecting at least an hour wait, but surprisingly it was only 15 minutes. Consider reservations if you plan to come on a weekend. The banana rum crepe was tasty and tasted like an amazing bread pudding, yum! After a misunderstanding I assume due to the masks we were sat in a cute outside nook. The menu was medium sized but there were so many options to try I will have to come back! I ordered the seafood omelette and a key lime pie crepe along with a blackberry mimosa. The seafood omelette had huge pieces of scallops and shrimp and the sauce was soo good I'm glad they gave me bread! They cooked my egg white perfectly and did not put yellows as I asked which is such a huge plus for me! The key lime pie crepe alone is worth going to this restaurant and if not that one the banana rum crepe! It's near the Southernmost Point so depending on where you stay it might be a walk. It's a great lunch so put your tennis shoes on and go. I ate the sirloin steak on the salad. Delicious. Had a great experience here after a long hot day walking around Key West. Stopped in right as dinner was getting started and long before the crowds so we could get back to our hose and enjoy a quiet beach for the rest of the evening. One of the highlights was the service. She was attentive, funny, and really went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed as well as make recommendations. It was hot so my wife and I started with the Watermelon Sangria. It was refreshing. Back to the service.... she brought us a taste of her "special" blackberry one that was not on the menu if we were looking for a 2nd one as she thought it was the best one. She wasn't wrong! Had the 2nd one at the end. Food was hot, well prepared and delicious. If you get the sweet potato fry's do go with her recommendation of the chefs honey mustard dip. Wow. (Yeah yeah yeah, I know....but the egg made it too heavy for me, and I loved all the other ingredients: croissant with Swiss cheese, carmalized onions, and ham). The potatoes were great, and I ordered a side of key lime hollandaise to dip them into. Divine. I almost licked the ramekin. I ordered Grapefruit juice, but what I got was something that was......not grapefruit juice. Similar color, but super sweet and not that bittery citrus taste that I love so much. I wonder if they have a sugary mixed fruit juice on the menu or something? It wasn't terrible, but it was the only small blunder with my experience. Love the ambiance. An amazing find! We arrived and were seated right away upstairs. Service was quick and attentive. We started with the caramel latte and a cup of coffee. My husband had the super crepe with bechemel sauce, I had the French egg/ breakfast sandwich and we shared a key lime crepe. The sandwich was PERFECTION. Caramel ice onions, cheese, ham and eggs on a croissant. The breakfast potatoes and sauce were out of this world. I could have eaten a whole plate of just that. After all these years, Banana Café still remains one my favorite breakfast spots in Key West. The food here is consistent and service is always friendly plus the atmosphere just feels like a family gathering. Everybody is just nice, tourists and locals. I normally get one of their savory crepes but for this visit, I went for the Blackened Key West Pink Shrimp Eggs Benedict. It was delicious. Eggs perfectly poached and the shrimp were decent in size and not rubbery. My benedict came with breakfast potatoes. My buddy wanted something simple so he got the Ham & Cheese Omelette and it came with toast. Prices start around $9 and goes up to $17 for seafood breakfast entrees. I also recommend their Mocha to help wake up. It's strong and doesn't need sugar :) They have something for everyone here from benedicts, crepes, omelettes, waffles to fried entrees, soups and steaks. While Banana Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I can hands down say that breakfast here is the best in Key West. I've been here twice now and both times, I've been super impressed. Their coffee is amazing, but if you're in the mood for something stronger, go for one of their mimosas - I highly recommend the watermelon! Everything in the menu is simply delicious. On my last visit, I had one of the savory crepes with candied walnuts and goat cheese. The waiter recommended adding the sautéed apples and those did not disappoint! Definitely with the upcharge! It also came with a large salad, which was delightful. My only complaint was that altogether, it was a large meal and my husband had to help me finish it. I would definitely split the dish next time! Tip: if you can, ask for a table on the second floor patio. You get a really nice view of Duval and might even get to see some of the nearby navy planes practicing! read more
