I was pretty disappointed with the smoked sausage considering it wasn't smoked. The pork was cold. The ribs were good.

I wasn't planning BBQ but ended up at Bandana's somehow. It was an OK BBQ, nothing to put your Spurs on and yell yahoo about, but it was good BBQ. I had the beef brisket and tried all the sauces, 5 if I remember correctly, sweet, spicy, mustard base, etc but again nothing to make me run out to the car for me spurs. I had the fried corn on the cob as my two sides it was tasty but it wasn't piping hot more on the less than warm side. The toast or bread thing was good but again, you got it, not a spurs thing. The service was friendly. Imagine local teens who typically these days are all pinked out or can't wait to be with their boyfriend or friendly with a sweet smile. Bandana's was the latter. Ambiance, there's that snob word again, is typical family with out a lot of fancy or modern but simply comfortable. The first time I ordered carry out brisket I was surprised that it was full of fat. I've been buying brisket for many many years and I've never seen it served like that. I called and spoke with manager who told me that it was not to be served like that and that it must've been a mistake. So imagine my surprise when I ordered it again and again it came with lots of fat . The food is so good. They are always polite and helpful. The owner is very invested and always checks on every table. The prices are great, and you get a ton for your money. We'd passed by this place numerous times, thinking someday we'd stop in. Well I'm glad we finally did! The waitstaff was very friendly, helpful with menu suggestions, and prompt. What impressed me too was that the manager was so attentive, personally and actively making sure everything in the dining area was going smoothly and that customers were satisfied. We went on a Saturday early evening, and we did have to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. But once we were, service was quick. Nice range (but not over-many) choices on the menu, seemingly well thought out. The food was top notch for a BBQ place... everything I had tasted great. So for a first visit I am impressed. The food was good, the staff was nice and Four of us dined for lunch for less than fifty bucks. So as sauces go KC style was my favorite. The others included Chicago Sweet, Hot, Spicy, Original and Sweet and Smoky. Several options for combination platters make having your own unique experience possible every time. Went here for an impromptu Easter dinner. There was a sign that said they were closing at 8pm and it was 8 pm. We were walking out as the host told us to come in and eat. Not only were they friendly and accommodating, they have EXCELLENT food!!! We ordered the pork platter, beef platter, and same for the kids. The best barbecue in town! I love this place! I'm so glad it's open. I haven't been to famous daves in 10 years. My favorite is the $6 Turkey meal with BBQ beans and fries. I like to mix all the sauces together too. My wife works in BLM and eats here often. I just go with her occasionally BUT... Today I walked off and left my debit card there with my check. The manager (who incidentally had stopped by the table checking on food and service) put it in his safe. When I returned, Anthony (I think I got that right) got it right back into my shaking hands! A couple of friends and I saw this place from the road and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you I'm so glad we did! Being students were always looking for a good deal- and bandanas delivers. They have a $5 meal and you get to pick a type of meat & two sides and it comes with a huge piece of garlic bread !! I usually get coleslaw and French fries as the sides. Since discovering this place I've been back three times in the past two weeks! The owner is always there whenever we are & today I mentioned how much I love the Chicago Sweet sauce and he went in the back and brought me a bottle of it!!!! Ribs were done well tender but with a good char and they have 4 different sauces to match your taste. Pork and beans were good but green beans and buddies corn came from a can. This place is awesome. My girlfriend and I go here once in a while and it's so delicious. Both of us get ribs and they are some of the best (smoked) ribs I have ever had. My favorite sauce is the "Sweet & Smokey" sauce but they have three other ones also. The service is always quick, polite, and on top of everything. Pretty standard BBQ place. Not great but not bad either. The portions for lunch could be a little bigger for the price. The wait staff is always very nice and attentive. I really want to like this place but just cannot get past that they do not have corn bread but instead give you garlic bread which is basically soaked in butter. I love Bandanas! The food is really good! You get to choose from a variety of sauces right on the table. The service is always good! Often the owner is there. I always get the pork sandwich, cut (chopped) on texas toast. That is how they originally servied it in this chain of restaurants (started in St. Louis) It comes pulled on a bun now...so if you want the original awesome sandwich, order it "cut and on toast". I have never tried any of the many other choices. Why? When I have found perfection! I only get to visit maybe once per month, since I live in Champaign. Bring a Bandana's to Champaign! read more

Vanilla, Franchise BBQ. We ordered the Brunswick Stew and found oversized chunks of potato in it and overall, too sweet. Nothing like what's found in the South. I had a Wet Bandana which is a mixture of pulled pork and beef in sauce. It came with a couple pieces of thick toasted bread so you had to make your own sandwich....by now, we are noticing the curious lack of wood smoke smell coming from out food...the sides were ok....nothing spectacular..fried okra from frozen..no surprise, cole slaw that was good but unremarkable and baked beans that more resembled pork and beans from the can rather than the dark molassesy baked beans from hours of cooking. I may sound harsh, but Bandana's could be the BBQ version of Denny's. Next time, convenience be damned...I'm heading to PT's for some real wood smoked BBQ with some personality thrown in. read more

My review is based solely upon a single takeout order of ribs with sides of BBQ beans, slaw and garlic bread. All were quite good in my opinion. I like ribs with the fat and tubular axillary vein portion held to a minimum, which seems to agree with Bandana's philosophy. Nothing worse than an order of seemingly "boiled" ribs doused with BBQ sauce to camouflage the tastelessness of the ribs. The main reason I chose to submit a review is to encourage those finding Bandana's ribs inferior to others to identify those so called other establishments. This will provide a twofold result, namely it will provide to others the name of BBQ places deemed better than Bandana's in which one may be interested in trying for him or herself. Secondly, it will give those reading the review some indication as to how much credence to allocate to the reviewer's rating. read more

Wait staff and management were rude. Restaurant was almost empty at dinner time (surprise surprise) and yet they acted like it was an inconvenience to seat our group. I've been to other Bandana's and I'm not so sure corporate would be pleased with the decor at this location. The signs around the store are religious, but also equally offensive to other religious groups. Then they unapologetically screwed up our orders. One person ordered nachos and another a deluxe type of nacho (more expensive). The waitress gave the expensive nachos to the wrong customer and after he started eating them she realized what she'd done. He didn't even know there were two types of nachos. She told him that he'd have to pay for them at the higher price since he ate some of them. Management backed her up. Are you kidding me?! We paid. Tipped anyway (because it's the right thing to do). Great down home atmosphere, friendly and well-trained staff, low prices, lots of home-cooked BBQ (along with several options), southern style sweet tea and large booths.
