The octopus was tender and enjoyable, although it had a bit more oil than I personally prefer. The atmosphere was fantastic, making it a great place to relax, enjoy a quality meal, and catch the World Cup matches . Friendly service, excellent presentation, and a memorable dining experience overall. We'll definitely be back for another tomahawk!

This place simply tried too hard…read more The food wasn't awful, except for the salmon which was the worse I've had in a restaurant in years, but for $400 we should have left happy. We don't need to be ecstatic, but happy would have been nice. The first drink was a horchata cocktail that you could feel the gritty powder on your tongue so we sent that back. The salsas and guacamole all had way too much lime, almost like they used concentrate to make them. The filet was good but lacked salt, the skirt steak was like old meat or maybe had been thawed and re-frozen as it had a very reddish tough texture and the carbon taste wasn't appealing. The server, Josh?, was very nice and so he gets a star. The fideo (not the burrata part) gets a star The music list gets a star Sorry, the meal wasn't worth $400 otherwise, but maybe that's not the goal as the vibe is definitely a cocktail spot.

The macaroni and cheese was so delicious I can't even put it into words. Grandmas Calabasitas tasted just like how my grandma and my mom made them at home, and the refried beans were just as good. The meat was tender, all of it, and the BBQ sauce selection tied it all together. The inside was warm but it's also Arizona so everywhere is fuckin hot! The guys were all very friendly and served us right away. We'll definitely be back.

We went all-in on the brisket and ordered the Large Call Out Brisket Taco, Brisket Tostada, and Brisket Burrito. Everything was solid, but the taco was the standout by a mile. The brisket was smoky, tender, and loaded with flavor, and somehow every bite was better than the last. The real sleeper hit was the BBQ sauce. I'm usually not someone who talks about sauce, but this one deserves its own mention. It had the perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and tangy and made everything on the table better. The mac and cheese was another surprise favorite. Rich, creamy, and absolutely worth ordering. We also tried the Mexican Twinkie. I'm glad we did because it's one of those menu items you have to experience at least once, but wow, it is rich. A few bites was plenty for me, and it's probably the one thing I wouldn't order again. Elote was decent but wouldn't order again. Mexi-Q could easily lean too far into the gimmick of BBQ-meets-Mexican, but instead they focus on doing the food right. I'll be back for that brisket taco and enough extra BBQ sauce to make questionable life decisions.

The parking lot outside was parking so we thought we may have to wait, but inside was not busy yet and we were seated immediately. I ordered the smoked chicken enchilada as I saw it was a Yelp favorite and it was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home since we all filled up on chips and salsa before our meal. This restaurant is decorated so cutely. I love how there is a Baja influence with all the surf boards but also southwest appeal. There is plenty of seating and tables for big groups. Even with other people yapping around us, the noise level was perfect to enjoy company. 10/10 would recommend.

Everything tasted amazing and was served fresh and in a timely manner. We will most certainly be back (and you should visit, too!)!

Ristra refers to the preparation of drying vegetables and chile peppers on a string and I saw many of these decorating the restaurant. It was not busy at all at 12:30 PM and our server took amazing care of us. We sat in the bar area which was quiet enough for us to catch up. A trio of salsas and chips on the house came quickly, delicious flavors! I went with the 2 entree combo, beef taco and a pork stew with calabacitas (melted cheese squash medley) and roasted corn. The pork stew was delicious and packed a nice spicy punch. The beef taco, roasted corn and calabacitas were just average, but I finished everything because I was hungry. Overall, decent spot for New Mexican food!
