Little details like that is what makes the food great. The flavor of both items blew me away. So yummy. So why only 3 stars? They took forever. We tried them at the Gilbert Food Trucks Food Court and they were super under staffed. Took close to an hour with waiting in line and waiting on food. Not exactly what one expects from a food truck. And while the food is amazing, it's not good enough to over look that long wait.

Wasn't sure where to find them since their website (travelingmonkaz.com) does not appear to be supported. However, their Facebook page is kept current and I was able to determine that they would be appearing on a Saturday evening at the Food Truck Caravan in Scottsdale located at 5th Avenue and Goldwater Boulevard. Fortuitously, I had bought tickets for a comedy show at Scottsdale's Stand-Up Live, which was a stone's throw away. I couldn't resist ordering the BBQ pork street tacos (beer barbeque pulled pork, jalapeno slaw, with bacon beer aioli) and they were phenomenal! They come three to an order so I was able to share with my comedy show compadre. He concurred that they were scrumptious. It stands to figure that porky goodness cooked with beer can be somewhat irresistable, and the folks at The Traveling Monk seem to know that all too well. I have since noticed that The Traveling Monk has been appearing at new breweries, which seem to be popping up in the East Valley as of late. I will keep my eyes peeled on their Facebook feed, since it seems like a perfect excuse to visit them at a couple of breweries on my list (Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company in Gilbert and Huss Brewing Company in Tempe, for example). I can only imagine how well their food goes down with a delicious craft beer, and I can only surmise that the folks responsible for The Hungry Monk (which maintains a very respectable craft beer selection) know exactly what they are doing.

Safe to say, I was exhausted and hungry so I pulled into the small shopping center and entered this small restaurant that specializes in Colombian hot dogs. I heard about the restaurant as it was listed as one of the top hot dog joints in the nation . . . high praise! You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. And while the menu is mostly hot dogs, they have a bunch of sides and some other options too. I went with a Colombian hot dog, sweet plantains with mozzarella on top, and a Colombian soft drink. While the restaurant is small, it's comfortable and they have free Wi-Fi. It's a casual spot perfect for a quick meal. And now to the important stuff: the dog. It was completely delicious. From the bun to the hot dog itself to the unique blend of sauces, melted cheese, and crisp potato sticks. The potato sticks gave it the crunch. The sauces gave it a delicious sweetness. And ht meat itself was quality. I can see why they were part of a list of the best hot dogs in the country. Well worth a visit!

I originally brought my lunch from home but when I heard they were visiting, my home lunch was quickly saved for another day. I originally intended to order their Bronx bomber sandwich but was sold out by the time I visited around 11:40am. Mind you, they opened at 11am. I was really bummed out but luckily had the back-up option of the Brooklyn burger. I ordered the Junior size and it is a quarter pound beef patty while the regular is half pound (two patties). The Junior is still plentiful and all meals comes with fries. This order left me incredibly satisfied and full. This was one of the best ~$10 I spent on lunch in awhile. I hope they do come back so I can try out their Bronx sandwich!

I almost went with the Classic, but saw someone with a BBQ Brisket potato and instantly changed my mind. When I took it back into the office and opened it up, at least 5 of my co workers came over to tell me how good it smelled. The brisket portion is generous and tender - and the cheese, sour cream, and green onions are the perfect classic compliment. It was swimming in melted butter, which might be a negative for some. But not for me! I was tempted to give 4 stars because a $10 potato is still pricey, no matter how delicious, but the girls on the truck were awesome and service was quick. I will definitely order again.

(Motivational pep talks obviously aren't my strong point). Literally, my dream come true on wheels. My friends and family joke that in my last life I lived through the potato famine which is why I'm so obsessed with this starch and I really can't argue with that. If you're a fan of the baked potatoes from Jason's Deli (shoutout to the Plain Jane) you'll love these. The potato itself is pretty hefty - it's not like the usual sizes you get as a side dish and the pictures on here make it look pretty tiny as well. In person, these taters mean business, especially with all the toppings they add to make it as tall as your face. This is definitely something you hold tenderly and safely with both hands according to OSHA standards. I got the Original combined with the Cheese and Broccoli because the broccoli totally offsets everything else calorie-wise. The potato isn't dry or hard, but soft like you're cutting into a fresh warm pancake with your fork. When you look down at your place, your tater is bathing in a warm bed of melted butter. It's so perfect, so beautiful ... GET IN MAH BELLY. If you're not a cheese wiz fan, I recommend you don't get anything that has the melted cheese - just ask for the shredded. I've been known to eat an ungodly amount of potatoes in one sitting but I hit a brick wall 3/4 into this with all the toppings on it. I highly recommend the Brisket baked potato if you like a spices (not spicy) in your food. Great price point, totally recommend if you ever see them!

We had a smaller wedding consisting of 24 people. After the ceremony, we all went back to our venue where we had appetizers ranging from ceviche, a salsa/guacamole bar, street corn and birria chimis (my personal favorite). Sarah and Servando did an absolutely beautiful job preparing and setting up the food for our arrival. The display was beautiful; not only with the food preparation but the overall set up as well. Our guests made it back a little before us and Sarah had the foresight so save us fresh guacamole which was so incredibly thoughtful. After we had our appetizers, we sat down and enjoyed our taco bar. We had carne asada, chicken tinga and a vegan taco filling. Sarah and Servando plated the tacos we each ordered. They had multiple salsas, corn and flour tortillas, and made all of our rice and beans vegetarian upon request. The serving station moved swiftly and efficiently and everything remained warm; even to the last guest. We ended our night with warm churros. Through out our whole night, Servando and Sarah did a wonderful job clearing our dishes, rotating out fresh food and consolidating leftovers. They were both so kind, attentive and warm. I was thankful to have both of them involved in our day. The customer service alone is enough for you to want Pelon's Food Truck involved in your special day, whatever the occasion, but their prices were unbeatable as well. We were on a specific budget, so we did our homework. We shopped around and made the calls and were absolutely shocked when Sarah went through the price packages. We thought the level of service and quality of food would have been out of our budget, but were so thankful that Pelon's Food Truck was able to give us our dream wedding dinner. If you want a stress free, delicious dining experience that you and your guests will be talking about for weeks, look no further than Pelon's Food Truck.

This is actually a food truck, which is parked on the side of the Tipsy Catcus, which is a really cool brewery I also checked out while I was waiting for my order. I ordered the original cheesesteak with the white cheese and whiz cheese combo (I tried to order my usual provolone, but they don't offer provolone as one of the cheese choices) and the fried mushrooms. I was the only person who pulled up around six P.M. and because this was on a Wednesday night, not a Friday night, hence the low traffic. But service was really good. The young lady who helped me out was prompt, explained everything and gave me a pager, which allowed me to go inside the brewery while I waited. One thing to note, while I was talking to the owner of the tipsy cactus, he told me that Friday night and Saturday nights are usually popping. So I wouldn't expect to be first in line on any of those nights. It also looks like they rotate food trucks on different nights, so don't assume that the cheesesteak truck is going to be here every night. I would check the tipsy cactus website, or Instagram page to be sure. It took about 15 minutes for them to complete my order and when I got it home and I dug in. I was really satisfied as the food was super good. Cheesesteak was on point with the prime rib being top quality, and the fried mushrooms were well done, juicy, with a really good homemade sauce that they packed in with my order. I almost forgot about the churro I ordered. And I forgot about it because I accidentally left it in the bag in the car and didn't eat it until the next day. It didn't matter. A short blast in the microwave and this thing was killa. I'll definitely be looking forward to checking this place out again in the future.
