    Part 2 of 2

Part 1 of 2 WHEN REFERRING TO MANY OF YOUR NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES WITH BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE POLICIES ARE LIKELY THE RESULT OF THE CORPORATION THAT OWNS THIS AND AND OTHER NOTABLE BRANDS, MARS, INC. YES, THAT MARS, INC. THE CANDY COMPANY. Mars, Inc. is a multinational food and beverage conglomerate that owns and produces a wide variety of candy brands. Some of their most popular confectionery products include M&M's, Snickers, Skittles, Twix, and Starburst. They also manufacture other candies like Mars bars, Milky Way, and 3 Musketeers. Mars, Inc. ALSO owns Mars Petcare (https://www.mars.com/our-brands/petcare) which includes VCA and Banfield Pet Hospitals. The Mars, Inc. Brand advances immensely toxic practices that negatively impact their employees, their customers, and most importantly their veterinary patients. I am going to make it my personal and professional mission to make sure everyone knows it. If you enjoy and purchase their candies, you are complicit. You do not even have to dig deep to uncover their egregious and harmful practices. FULL TRANSPARENCY: A few years ago, Banfield Pet Hospital (Eagle Rock) almost killed my dog as a result of an act of malpractice. In a nutshell, the vet who examined our family pet for his biannual wellness exam failed to communicate to me that diagnostic testing revealed the presence of cancer. At the time the tumor was small. At the time I had no idea that our pet had cancer. One year later during another wellness exam at the Pasadena location, our regular and trusted vet revealed the cancer diagnosis and suggested we seek further diagnostic and surgical options from an oncologist. FOR THE RECORD, IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR WELLNESS PLAN COVERS ANYTHING OTHER THAN ROUTINE VETERINARIAN CARE, YOU WOULD BE WRONG!!! The doctor who neglected to communicate the presence of the cancer actually reached out to me with an apology and a promise that he would do everything in his power to ensure that Banfield would do the right thing and our pet would get the care he deserved. Three people were on that call and were witnesses. Very long and sordid story short, our family was out of pocket $30,000. A 'corporate executive' from 'headquarters' offered to reimburse us $1000 and stated, what difference did the year make (between the moment when the cancer was discovered and the moment that we were told about the cancer)? They also stated they saw no need to reimburse the costs related to the anesthesia used during surgery since it was not medically necessary. Well maybe Mars should have remained in the candy business and not ventured into veterinarian medicine because they clearly know NOTHING about veterinarian medicine or oncology. THE DIFFERENCE FOR THE RECORD WAS A TUMOR THE SIZE OF A PEA VERSUS A TUMOR THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL THAT HAD MANAGED TO ATTACH ITSELF TO OUR PET'S LUNG. BTW, A PORTION OF HIS LUNG NEEDED TO BE DISSECTED AS A RESULT. WHILE OUR PET SURVIVED THE CANCER HE WAS NEVER THE SAME. BUT I DIGRESS. After that debacle, we chose not to seek veterinarian services at Banfield for a couple of years. All trust was broken. However, during that period I continued to pay for the Optimum Wellness Plan that I established in 2013. So in addition to paying cash for services at local veterinarian offices, I was still paying over $100 monthly to Banfield. As our dog entered advanced age, I reached out to the one Banfield vet our family had trusted. She and her staff delivered compassionate and professional care (as far as I was concerned). Our pet experienced a couple of problematic medical issues but he was of advanced age and we felt that the care was responsive and compassionate. Yesterday, after a period of progressively worsening health, our almost 18 year old pet was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. To alleviate any further suffering, after guidance from our trusted vet, our pet was euthanized. Words cannot even begin to express the pain of our loss. Our Pet arrived in our home when our oldest was 10 years old (she is now 28). PLEASE SEE PART 2 of 2 in photos

VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Will never bring another pet here again! Buyer beware! Make sure you read their contract for pet insurance carefully!! In July 2020 I brought in my best friend, a 12yo Pitty who was starting to lose weight in for a check up. The lady at the desk sold me on the pet insurance, highlighting all the free service I'd receive and how beneficial the plan was overall. So I signed up. After her first comprehensive exam there I was told to feed her more food and use a food high in protein to essentially get her weight up. On her follow up a month later I was told her blood work was normal and all her organs were functional. On the same visit they recommended I update all her shots. So I did. Now for the disturbing part... Sometime in October I brought her back in still concerned that she was still loosing weight and was having trouble keeping food down. They took her weight and she had lost a significant amount of weight even though I had been feeding her more and a high protein diet. I was worried, naturally, so the vet did another check up. The vet told me she felt what she thought was a mass in my dogs abdominal area. The vet told me it was most likely cancer of the spleen or liver, and the only way to be sure was to go to a specialist and spend thousands of dollars for exploratory surgery. I could not afford that option unfortunately. So the vet told me to spend as much time as possible with her and just keep her comfortable as the dog was not in any pain, so I took her home. On December 28th my best friend for 12.5 years passed away at home from what I believe was a seizure related to the cancer. Today I called Banfield to cancel my "Optimum wellness plan" and I was told that even though my dog was no longer alive I would have to continue paying the monthly fee for the remainder of the 1 year contract ($400+)or pay the amount of benefits received($600+). So essentially they want to remind me every month till July that my dog is dead! Thanks a lot #banfield I hope you'll do the right thing!

I had to take my dog to Banfield for an emergency appointment. They were able to squeeze him in after they had asked why he needed to be seen. Since it was already 5:30PM, I figured that they were booked for appointments and that I would just come in the next morning, but they told me to come in at 6:00PM anyways. He had been limping and putting less stress on one of his back legs. He didn't seem to mind, no pain, just kept trotting along during our walk. I knew something was wrong because this had happened before, but he was in more pain. I waited about 45 minutes for an available room, and then another 20 minutes to see Dr. Stewart. She was very thorough checking all of his hip and leg joints as well as the other problems my dog has been having not related to the original reason we came in. Even though I had to wait over an hour to see my favorite vet, it was worth it because my dog got the best care last night. The hospital closes at 7:00PM, but the vet and the nurses were with me until 7:30PM. If you are searching for a "health plan" for your your pet, I would recommend looking into a wellness plan at Banfield. It covers the office visit, which would be $45 if you didn't have the plan, discounts on medication and products they sell, vaccinations, and possibly teeth cleaning (depending on which plan you pick).

I paid at the end, the receptionist called the team to confirm nothing else was needed on my end, then I left. The next day, I was notified that they forgot to charge me an additional fee from USDA, and was told that had I responded to Rosey's messages prior to our appointment "I would have known that". I triple checked our text chain, phone log, emails, and even PetDesk - none of which have anything from Rosey before our appointment on 3/3. Naturally, I questioned the additional charge (there was already a USDA fee that I paid for on the original invoice) and mentioned that I had no correspondence from Rosey leading up to the appointment. I received such a condescending and accusatory email back from her and was essentially told she would not help me in the future. I'm still waiting to connect with management and share screenshots showing that Rosey never reached out to me before our appointment. I completely understand that mistakes happen and I would have been fine to pay the additional fee. However, I don't stand for gaslighting and false accusations.

Unfortunately, our experience left a very poor & unprofessional first impression. AFTER ALL WE ARE PAYING FOR A SERVICE!! Upon arrival, we encountered a sign at the front desk that was extremely condescending and immediately gave the impression of a business more interested in enforcing rules than treating patients with respect. There is a 10-minute grace period that is not clearly communicated beforehand, and if you are even slightly late, the clinic threatens to cancel your appointment and charge a late fee. We were only about five minutes late due to a long line and parking delays, yet we were told our appointment was canceled and a late fee would be applied. The staff at the front desk were dismissive and RUDE AF!!!! , particularly one woman who seemed to enjoy asserting power over patients. She even hung up abruptly on a caller saying, "I'll call you back, I'm busy." When we requested to speak to the manager, the response was only slightly better, still condescending, and we were reprimanded for explaining the situation. It felt very much like being treated as children rather than valued clients. For a clinic that presumably cares for animals, this lack of empathy, patience, and basic courtesy was courtesy was shocking. If you're treating your HIGH PAYING CLIENTS THIS BAD!? HOW ARE YOU TREATING OUR BELOVED ANIMALS? YIKES. The behavior at the front desk, combined with the aggressive sign, makes it very difficult to feel comfortable or welcome. We hope the owners and doctor are made aware of this, as staff attitude can seriously affect a clinic's reputation and patient loyalty. We are reconsidering whether to continue using this clinic and strongly encourage owners particularly more than poor management to retrain front desk staff on professionalism and compassion. Patients who spend significant amounts on pet care deserve to be treated with respect and understanding (especially during their first visit) Once this behavior is put on social platforms such as Yelp, Google. Even tik tok you will suffer greatly by allowing your front desk to abuse your clientele? What an absolute embarrassment. Take your disgusting signs down before you go viral.

Some of the vets are good, others not so much. We finally decided to switch to a new practice after experiencing enough errors and lapses in care to realize our dogs are not safe receiving care at Vet Villa. I strongly recommend avoiding Vet Villa. 1) Vet Villa prescribed Carprofen flavored tablets to our dog for a painful condition. We were not instructed to keep the bottle far out of reach. The dog found the pill bottle, chewed through the plastic, ate all the pills and suffered an accidental overdose. This led to 2 emergency vet visits, gastrointestinal toxicity that kept us up all night for 5 nights, and large out of pocket costs. But we are glad our dog is still alive. The emergency vet told us they always counsel pet parents to keep this medication bottle far away from the pet, and that they have seen multiple similar overdoses. Vet Villa did not acknowledge my feedback to change their counseling practices to prevent this from happening to others in the future. 2) A skin biopsy was performed in a completely inappropriate fashion by a veterinarian who acted as if she had never evaluated a skin lesion before. I can speak to this because I am a practicing dermatologist. The vet's approach as she examined reminded me of a first year medical student evaluating a condition for the first time. I did not contradict the vet's recommendation and gave it a chance. After all, I am a human doctor, what do I know about veterinary care. As expected, the results returned inconclusive due to the incorrect sampling method. The out of pocket cost was significant. 3) Bloodwork was lost and had to be re-drawn -- no explanation for why it was lost. 4) The practice's own pharmacy does not share prescription records with the office. I was asked in a very accusatory way to provide proof of a prescription that had been continuously refilled by Vet Villa using their own pharmacy for several years.

Dr Li is ok but not as good as Dr Evelyn, he often does not follow up with test results and you have to track him down to get answers. Not to mention their prices are insanely high, even for CA standards. And when you finish a tech appointment, they just try to rush you out of there and hand your dog over, you have to really dig to get some information on your pet or how to use medication. The main issue is that Petsadena now directs calls to a call center operator with AI-like humanoids. Most of the time they don't even answer. If they do, they do everything in their power to avoid connecting you to the vet's office. Explaining the issue or leaving a message is useless, never get a return call. I begged for two hours to talk to the vet, and she kept treating me like I was wasting her time. In the meantime, my foster was in a crate in the back of the building. I finally got to talk to a vet on the phone after the two-hour wait, and she told me "Ok, we'll put her to sleep"!! I was agonized and told her that I was supposed to be with the dog during this process. At this point, I had been weeping for two hours and just wanted to hold my foster. Another 45 minutes went by, and I was told to meet them outside the back of the building. While I was sitting there, I could hear employees in the back room laughing and making fun of clients. Rats were running back and forth across the fence. It was dark when the process finally happened, and I was able to go home. It was absolutely the worst experience at a veterinary hospital in my years of fostering. I wrote a letter detailing the ordeal to the vet manager. An apology was issued to the rescue, but never to me. Having to euthanize a pet is a devastating experience. They made it ten times worse than it had to be. My heart goes out to anyone who has been treated like this by this hospital
