every dish prepared here is very intentional -- each menu item that we ordered was extraordinary and well presented. they pay attention to detail, and provide authentic, quality food (especially the sauces that accommodate the dishes) they make their own curry paste in house too! the staff was wonderful and attentive, and clearly showed a strong passion for what they do. this really reflected in each dish that came out, on top of our experience. this is not your typical thai restaurant, but rather an elevated sneak peak into what thai street food really is. read more

Great new spot on the best block of Belmont. The owners are a couple who met in Thailand and the menu features the foods they miss from Bangkok. It's a short menu: four skewers (pork, chicken, tofu, mushroom), four mains (porks, fish, curry), three salads (herb, citrus, mac), two sides (bread, rice), and one dessert. They also have six cocktails, one mocktail, and beer/wine/cider/non-alcoholic options. We tried a variety (Gai Satay, Tofu Yang, Herb Salad, Yum Steelhead, Larb Mac Salad, Sticky Rice, Toast w Peanut Sauce). We don't do pork so that was slightly limiting for mains but there were a number of options for vegetarians. Everything was delicious - strong flavors, a little spicy for us. Prices are a little high in my opinion, at $7-8 per skewer. I think this spot is best for small groups who can get everything and share. Interior is casual and lively. The dining and kitchen are connected so there are strong smells / sounds of cooking / slightly smoky vibe, but it feels like a street food atmosphere. I went here for dinner and absolutely loved everything about this place! It's rare to find street food style thai food in the city so this was a gem. It is decorated very well and the ambience inside is great. It's perfect for a date night or if you are wanting to enjoy good food with a good conversation. Their menu was small but honestly, everything sounded good so I still had trouble deciding what to get. Since we were a party of 2, we sadly did not get to explore most of the menu. We got the moo ping (pork) skewer, hed ping (oyster mushroom) skewer, namtok kor moo yang (grilled pork collar, salad style), and the coconut pandan daiquiri. The coconut pandan daiquiri was super refreshing, light, and very easy to drink. The pandan and lime flavor really came through. The skewers were amazing. I really liked the hed ping over the moo ping, which says a lot because I usually prefer the meat option. The namtok kor moo yang was definitely our favorite. It was so refreshing and the perfect amount of spicy. I was a huge fan of the mint leaves and the roasted rice powder in the dish. We used the sauce from this dish as a dip for everything because it was that good! The staff were really friendly and welcoming. We had a short but brief conversation with one of the owners of the place and learned a lot. The restaurant is located on Belmont, in-between a lot of other food spots and lively bars, so it is perfect if you are looking to grab a bite before continuing your night. There should be ample street parking nearby. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and would definitely go here again to explore more items on their menu. read more

BANGKOK BELLY is extraordinary. When I walked in, I immediately felt comfortable and welcomed. The varied colorful table coverings gave a fun casual vibe. And warm lighting shows off a large selection of liquors in the wooden shelves behind the bar. There were 5 adults and 2 children at our table. We ordered many different items that were enjoyed by everyone. I especially loved the "Yum Steelhead", in a mint shallot sauce, "Moo Ping" -- bite sized pieces of grilled pork collar on Skewers with a side of Thai jaew sauce, "Gai Satay" , chicken grilled on skewers with peanut sauce, and a wonderful skewered and grilled oyster mushrooms with jaew sauce. I have an allergy to night shades ( vine grown peppers, tomatoes) and the chef modified the dishes without sacrificing any flavor for me. And the cocktails!!each has a Thai ingredient that influences the traditional drink in a beautiful way. My Coconut Padan Daiquiri was fresh, with the just right amount of lime and a suggestion of coconut. A nicely balanced drink. Our server brought each dish as it was ready, asked what she might do for us, and discreetly cleared finished serving plates. We also found the total cost quite reasonable, with each dish I ate costing between $7-19. I will definitely return. I highly recommend Bangkok Belly for a tasty experience of quality ingredients, well prepared and beautifully presented with Thai seasonings in the street food tradition. read more

Dragged a friend here for their soft opening and we both walked away supremely impressed! We were greeted by the owners - super sweet couple who were taking orders and running food, they had kitchen and bar staff fulfilling the orders and everyone was on point. It's a cute space, cozy and a little on the small side so be sure to get there early or be prepared for a wait. The menu is pretty tight, with a handful of skewers, salads, and side dishes. We tried three of the skewers, the mushroom salad, and the lamb mac salad, and I sampled a couple of cocktails from the bar. Everything was out of the park! The pork skewer was savory and came with a spicy dipping sauce I wanted to drink. The chicken satay was cooked to perfection. The tofu skewer was good, but could've been more flavorful. The mushroom salad was delicious, but be warned, it's spicier than it appears! Overall, lots of veggie options on the menu and the food was very impressive. The cocktails I tried were equally delightful. The coconut pandan daiquiri was refreshing and not too sweet, while the spicy vodka cocktail had the perfect amount of heat. They were busy even during the soft opening, but everyone was friendly and we didn't have any issues with service or our food. It's clear that everyone who works there cares a great deal about their food and their guests' experience, and we left well-sated and well-taken care of. I can't wait to return! read more

This is a perfect addition to a block on Belmont that is plentiful of bars and nightlife. Bangkok Belly, with its casual vibes and strong cocktail program, definitely fits the neighborhood draw. It's Thai street food and the tiny menu focuses on skewers and salads, with a couple of specials (that changes each season). I started with a Thai tea punch, which was like a spiked iced tea (but not crazy strong like Long Island iced tea but same approach), and then I dug into the menu. I got the gai satay or chicken skewer that was perfectly cooked and served with a funky dipping sauce that had the authentic Thai spices. The moo ping skewer is grilled pork collar, and it was also nicely cooked, and this served with a peanut sauce and slices of toast. The server said that's how they serve this dish in Thailand, dipping the toast in the peanut sauce. The grilling quality reminded me of another Belmont restaurant down the road, Bluto's, so Bangkok Belly reminded me like a Thai version of Bluto's (which is Greek skewers). I tried the herb salad, which is almost like a plate of parsley, but it was so refreshing and different that it was really a pleasant surprise. The larb mac salad is a play on the Thai larb dish but with macaroni as the main ingredient (and the website jokes that this was an invention from a picnic potluck). This is probably the most unusual item on the menu, but while it was a nice mac salad, it wasn't necessarily my favorite item. It's nice as a side to cool off from the Thai heat in the other dishes. Still, I loved everything else, and the service was great, and the place seemed pretty popular as the evening went on. So excited to see this in the neighborhood! read more

Small, simple, and excellent. The food is terrific; interesting, very tasty, and not your standard Portland Thai restaurant food. No Pad Thai on the menu here. The service is attentive, friendly, and laid back. The bar program is great too - we haven't gotten through the whole cocktail list but everything we have had has been excellent. I've never had a hard time getting a table, but it's getting busier, and deservedly so. Highly recommended. read more

I heard about the soft opening this weekend from a friend. I was intrigued by the story so I had to check it out. I must say, I am absolutely impressed. The menu is small but perfect and well thought out. We were a party of 4 so fortunately, we were able to explore most of the menu items. The people working were all amazing and hospitable. This was a taste delight! My husband and I went for our first dinner here, wanting to experience some new tastes. We were warmly greeted and seated. As we knew little about the cuisine, we asked for some guidance and one of the owners was incredibly helpful. We asked to begin without too much spice and ordered the yum citrus salad, mushroom and chicken skewers, and the grilled pork (namtok kor moo yang). Also jasmine rice. We almost passed on the mushrooms and were so glad we didn't. What a wonderful taste experience! Coupled with great, friendly and helpful service, we will be back again soon. read more

I'm from Bangkok and this is def my favorite place in the PNW. I personally enjoy, Thai bar/street food which is extremely difficult to find a good place in the PNW. I'm not a big drinker but the cocktail list very creative even for a Thai person with various Thai herbs infused. Def coming back. read more
