Nice little Thai food restaurant. I'm surprised at the negative reviews regarding the "grumpy owner." Never had an issue with him, during many visits there. Has a warm, lowlit atmosphere, but its not hard to get a chill vibe. $15 credit card minimum was a buzzkill. Did not have the curry that was listed on the lunch menu, no veggie options either (dont feel up for explaining my dietary choice) bear in mind its still the first day of tour so our standards may be a scoge high. They were quick to bring out the entrees and to refill waters (this is important, I'm thirsty). Bathroom was a clean, cold seven, didn't feel bad about shitting in it. Bangkok is the best Thai restaurant in the greater Danbury area. I've been going there for 14 years and the food is excellent! Their lunch specials are wonderful, in addition to the entree you get your choice of soup and little spring rolls that are amazing! I travel for work so I'm all over the area and pass at least four other Thai restaurants in my weekly travels. I've tried them all and they're OK, but I usually go out of my way to go to Bangkok. My family has been going to Bangkok for about 25 years. After the previous owners passed we took a break and recently saw that it had reopened. We stopped in this evening and we are so happy that we did! Not only did the restaurant get a much-needed facelift, but it's also so much brighter, it feels airier now!! More importantly, it was DELICIOUS. I'm exceptionally picky, I can tell the minute differences in a recipe almost immediately and while there were some differences I have to say, they were all for the better. We devoured the 4 appetizers that we ordered, to give context there were only 3 of us, and then ordered our favorite entrees from years previous. The entrees were all exceptional! The ingredients were so fresh, there was a perfect amount of spice, to be fair, we like it super spicey. The peanut sauce definitely looked different which initially raised some eyebrows, until we tried it, it was absolute perfection! Try the specials, we can't wait to have those summer rolls again!!! Bangkok offered me my first taste of Thai cuisine in advance of a trip to the far east in 1988. It has remained essentially unchanged since then, although some service personnel have changed. Their food is delicious, and my many lunches there always left me feeling satisfied. Lunch prices are reasonable, but I wouldn't be able to eat dinner there very often; that menu is price-y by comparison. My recommendations would include Tom Yum Goong, hot and spicy soup; Panang Nua, beef with Thai curry; or Pad Thai with Shrimp. A bottle of Singha beer or a tall Thai iced tea would round the meal. I seldom opt for dessert because the meal is usually quite satisfactory. One other thing which hasn't changed is the owner's attitude. He's always been rude, he's always there, and it can sometimes interfere with one's enjoyment of one of the world's more interesting cuisines. read more

If they ask you to hang up your coats make sure you comply. We sat down in an empty restaurant and we didn't want to hang up our coats out of courtesy to them. After we said we would keep our coats a grumpy old man that was sitting in the back comes up to us saying "We wont argue with you. Please leave. We won't serve you." We got up and left. One of the strangest 2 minute restaurant experiences I've ever had. Would've been nice if we were actually able to eat the food but this man obviously didn't care to serve us. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced, anywhere in the US. Why open a restaurant when you don't wish to serve your customers and don't have a basic sense of hospitality? My friends and I stopped by this Thai restaurant on a Sunday evening as we were returning home from a ski trip in Vermont. The restaurant was completely empty, except for a grumpy old man in the back booth who glared at us as we walked in and were seated. The hostess then asked to take our jackets. We politely declined. What a mistake! She proceeded to tell us that the servers would probably spill food and drink onto our jackets and we HAD to let them take our jackets. At this point, my friends and I were giving each other glances trying to figure out what was going on. Why were they insisting they would spill food on us? But before we could comprehend and reason with them, the grumpy, menacing old man (who I assume to be the owner) came up to our table and told us "please leave, we won't serve you." We were all stunned! I knew immediately this establishment did not deserve my money and I did not care to try their food at all. I used to think bad service was okay as long as the food made up for it. That was until I stepped foot into Bangkok. The one good thing to come out of this is now I fully appreciate service at other restaurants I dine at; at least they serve you food and don't kick you out and tell you they will spill food on you! read more

Ok, word of warning... Hot meats HOT! Many Thai restaurants offer "American style spicy" but this place is authentic Thai Spicy! You will sweat, and cough on the hot stuff, so keep your Thai Iced Tea handy! If you don't like spicy food, they offer much more pedestrian options that you'll enjoy. The food is good, the staff attentive and the atmosphere is fairly common for the genre. I will happily return once I work up the nerve again! read more

Came here for dinner while on a business trip. It was recommended by a local. The menu was the typical Thai menu. It had a good selection of Thai dishes from the standard Pad Thai to different curries. I ordered the Tum Yum Shrimp soup to start. It was different in a not so good way. It was not spicy and had more of a coconut taste than the typical Tum Yum. The Red Curry Chicken dish I had was really good. Very well balanced between the basil, coconut, and spices. I went to Bangkok last night for the first time on the back of a friend's recommendation. I was very disappointed. The food was drenched in their so called special sauce, which was no more special than opening a jar. In fact it tasted as if the same sauce was used on 2 different dishes. The subtle Tai spices and flavors were not anywhere to be found. The service was mediocre. The server couldn't be bothered to ask us how the food was. When we ordered an appetizer we weren't advised on the portion size and they gave us the serving for 2 when we were 6. The best part of the meal was the Tai beer and the prawn crackers they put on the table. read more

This restaurant is one of my favorites to frequent when I want a nice quiet evening with good food. The service can be spotty, but every time I've gone, they accommodate all of my food allergies. The only reason I'm giving this a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 is that the owners go to Thailand occasionally and I've visited the restaurant hoping to get a great meal only to find that the restaurant is closed, which is pretty annoying. The downside was that everything seemed to have a layer of grime on it and the hall to the restroom was filled with clutter - not what you want to see in a dining establishment. It'd be easy to overlook this place sitting in a strip mall next to a Little Ceasar's, but it's worth the trip. This is one of my favorite Western Connecticut restaurants. Delicious and unique take on Thai cuisine. Last time I was here I had green curry mussels and they were fantastic. Rice is always fresh and tasty...pretty important in my view. We ate lunch here today and really liked the place. We saw on the way out a few of the dinner options, so now we want to return for them. I had the beef in coconut curry "PANANG NUAH" . My wife had a version of the beef basil. Both were great and we were surprised that the beef was different in each dish. Tuned to the taste and how they were cooked.
