I should have learned by now: Any restaurant that offers the cuisines of more than one culture usually prepares them all poorly. Of this Bangkok Kitchen of Latham is an exemplar. We ordered 4 different Thai dishes and not one of them was flavored/spiced correctly. No authentic tastes -- not even close. Our dishes were like a bunch of ingredients put together in a bowl and stirred. Word to the chef: Each cuisine has its own set of core spices. For Thai, the essentials are: Kaffir lime leaves, galangal, red chili, sweet basil, peppercorn, ginger (as well as garlic, onion, etc.). Our food had none of these! Great first impression of this place. I love the variety of Asian cuisines available here. I've always wanted to try Thai papaya salad and this was a delicious version. Sweet and savory with a nice texture and a bit of heat. A very generous portion too. We had a Tiger Roll and Fried Oysters for appetizers. I was impressed with the roll. The quality was good. The fried oysters were ok. A little oilier and heavier than I would like. My son had Chicken Katsu. He enjoyed it very much despite the fact that they forgot the Miso soup that was supposed to come with. My other son had Seafood Tom KHA, the coconut milk infused broth blended well with the seafood and mushrooms for a scrumptious meal. My husband had the King's Noodles with Pork. Again an enjoyable and just right, spicy meal. I had the Tom Yum soup along with my salad. It's an addictive sweet/sour mix with mushrooms and two pieces of shrimp. I got to eat lunch here while visiting Albany and was absolutely amazed! Everything tasted so fresh-even the sauces tasted like they'd been made from scratch that morning. This was my first time going to Bangkok Kitchen and I was just picking up a takeout order, so I can't say much (anything, really) about the place or the service; I did the guy thing and walked in without looking around, picked up my order from a woman who was working behind the counter, exchanged a few pleasantries and left. The woman was very pleasant and my pho was delicious; my one complaint about the pho is that there wasn't enough of it. Good amount of noodles but not enough broth or veggies. The amount of "pho sauce" included was perfect for the amount of soup though - I dumped the whole thing in and it spiced things up very nicely. I'm accustomed to getting my pho at Van's Vietnamese on Central Ave., and they give you a lot more broth and veggies. Van's pho is excellent too; I'd only give Bangkok Kitchen an edge on the convenience front in that their pho sauce stuff is very easy to use - just mix in as much as you want to make the soup as spicy as you want. Spicing up Van's pho is less straightforward: they include peppers/hot plant matter, as well as some pho-sauce-type stuff to spice up the soup, but you have to figure out what's what, how to use them, how much to put in, etc., while with BK's pho, you just pour in some pho sauce and that's that. So in the end I wish I could put Bangkok Kitchen and Van's Vietnamese in a room together so they could produce baby phos that combined the convenience of BK's with the serving size of Van's. read more

Yesterday Monday February 15th The family wanted a nice warm soothing bowl of hot soup so we decided to see what's new in our area and we came across Bangkok kitchen on Troy Schenectady road. Our 1st impression walking in was finally a clean restaurant. We were immediately approached by the owner and seated my wife, daughter and myself in a spacious booth, gave us menus and told us about a PROMOTION they were having. We were OFFERED a choice of three different APPETIZERS and one to choose from between Steamed Edamame, Gyoza Dumplings or Crab Rangoon, she took our drink order and left us to view the menus. My first thought was probably another Asian menu with all the same choices that all the other Restaurants have, and me being an Afficianado of Sushi I was very SURPRISED at the different SIGNATURE ROLLS they had on their MENU. A very impressive MENU that we all agreed upon between the Chinese, Thai and Japanese selections. We were never pressured, rushed or felt at ease our entire visit. We chose to go with the COMPLEMENTARY CRAB RANGOON for our APPITIZER, a TIGER and MONKEY SIGNATURE SUSHI ROLL for the table, and for our main course my wife ordered the SHRIMP HOT POT, my daughter the BEEF PHO NOODLE BOWL and for myself my favorite the NEBEYAKI UDON BOWL. After a very short wait our APPETIZER, BUBBLE TEA, JASMINE TEA and my HOT SAKE came and at that point we knew we were in for a TREAT. Crab Rangoon was AMAZING not greasy like other places but LIGHT, CRISPY & FULL of FLAVOR. The SUSHI ROLLS came nexted and they were DYNAMITE, an EXPLOSION in our MOUTHS. We were experiencing such a GREAT MEAL we even decided to order side SALADS with their HOUSE DRESSING in between to cleanse the palate. Let me say the SERVICE throughout the night was spot on. Now it's time for our BOWLS they were EXACTLY what we were hoping for, HOT, FULL OF INGREDIENTS (Skimping on nothing) and APPEALING TO OUR EYES. But will the TASTE be there, it was a GRANDSLAM...APPITIZER, SUSHI & OUR BOWLS were all what we were HOPING for PURE SATISFACTION. With the consistency of lack of customer service these days I need to give a huge shout out to Bangkok kitchen! We've been here several times and it's always great food and great service but last night we ordered a lot of dishes that included avocado. Instead of telling us they were out of avocado they actually sent someone to the store to buy avocado! They ask our names so they know us when we come in, they always ask about the kids and it's truly an amazing place for great food and the Boba teas are tasty! Highly recommend. read more

I come here a lot, the servers are very nice and cheery except one very grumpy male-presenting one. They really embody the epitome of bad service, truthfully. They didn't say 2 words to us at any moment during the experience. I'm not even exaggerating. This happened twice when we have gone to eat there the last few months, with the same person serving us. It sucks because their lunch prices are great, the food is good, and the service is usually quick. They give free Thai tea with dine in. I've only had Thai and Sushi here, and the Thai food is not as flavorful as I've had before, but still pretty good. But that one server ruined it for us for now. read more

The food did not come together, and the pictures did not do justice. A little disappointed, I just thought this would be an authentic Thai place.
