Grabbed dinner with a few friends, The place was pretty empty and we were sat right away. The waitress that help our table didn't seem to know that menu or how to wait tables. On multiple occasions we would go to order and she would take one thing and leave so we would have to wait till she came back to order the rest on our order. Didn't check back on the table, I have to ask someone walking by for a drink refill. Having been eating here since they opened in the '80s it was good to see that the food is still a main focus and everything from out appetizers to our main dishes were large portions as well as had great flavors. read more

We always forget about this little gem and it is less than a mile away by Home Depot. Everyone who works here is always very friendly and offer advice on the menu for newbies. We went on a slow, very cold night and it was a bit chilly inside. That was the only downside, and remedied quickly with some hot spicy thai food! The Pad Sea Eu beef is very good, and a massive portion that filled me up twice. The Pho with beef was also very good! The only downside is no soup or salad comes with the meal, but as mentioned, portions are large. So, as with some restaurants, Bangkok Pavillion must have good days and bad. I've read both good and not so good reviews, so I wanted to try it out. Having said that, my experience was no the not so good side. It was a Wednesday evening about 6pm and the place was mostly empty, with only two other tables with patrons. Now this should be a good thing, meaning that we wouldn't have to wait for service. Not so. After being seated as we walked in, our server, who didn't welcome us or introduce herself and I'm sure would rather not be working, kept walking away while we were trying to decide what appetizers we wanted. When I questioned her about if they used holy basil or Thai basil in their gaprao, she said yes. The reason I asked is because their menu lists "gaprao leaves and holy basil" as some of the ingredients. This is somewhat confusing as gaprao and holy basil are the same thing. She didn't seams to be interested in answering questions about the menu, or she just didn't know. We'll as gaprao in my favorite Thai dish, I ordered it. Well, I'm pretty sure that the basil used was Thai, based on the shape and flavor or the leaves. Also this is the first gaprao that I've ordered that didn't include that wonderful crispy fried egg. The Thai toast was very good and my wife liked her duck dish. I may return to see if it was just an off night for them, or if it's just not as great as it has been in the past. read more

I tried to eat here yesterday but arrived too late for the buffet. I went to the Dragon Empire Chinese Buffet on 95th instead. I came back here today to catch the buffet. There were lots of dishes I wasn't very familiar with. I tried several of them anyway. However, I'm not a big fan of spicy food so keep that in mind as you read this. There were items that had a lot of flavor and others that really didn't. The BBQ pork was delicious. The chicken next to it was average. Oyster mushroom salad was new to me, and interesting. The cooked, ground chicken was boring. I liked the vegetable pad Thai, but not the seafood salad. By the time I got the check I kind of wished I'd gone to Dragon Empire again. Used to really like the lunch buffet, but recently quality of the food is not has good as it was. And it shows, it is just not as crowded as it used to be. For ordering from the menu, a is still a decent choice with a good selection of the classics. However, there are better options for the same price within 5 or 10 minutes. For buffet, It is pricey but it's the only option in the area so I am glad that they are still around. Food just does not seem as fresh, maybe because they are less busy. There are two options: Dine in and Buffet (the buffet is only available during lunch hours) If you're dining in, you can choose from a menu that includes a variety of dishes that feature all of the usual suspects. Beef, chicken, pork, shrimp and even some duck. Stir fry, curry and rice and noodles. Plenty of veggie options too. During one visit, I ordered a basic mixed fried rice dish with a crab rangoon appetizer. My meal was well made and served with fresh ingredients. It probably could have had more spice, but I know this can be a bit subjective. If you like a nice kick with your meal then you may mention it to your server. The buffet is one of the better ones in the area. It's also one where you can turn your meal into your only meal of the day, if you catch my drift. There are plenty meat and veggie options. Fruits and sweets too. The food can sometimes sit a little bit, which will dry it out. It's still good, but I would recommend arriving a little earlier during the lunch hour to try and catch it while it's still fresh. The restaurant is clean and plenty of parking is available. We have had a Groupon for a while here and finally found some time to check it out! It's in a nice location - but what an odd building for this to be in! We came in at 345 on a Wednesday (super late lunch or early dinner) seeing as neither of us had anything to eat all day. Anyways - of course nobody was in here because it was such an odd time. First thing upon entering was "this waitress stand is unusually close to the door" as I started laughing thinking about it....so I'm sure if it was packed and you had to wait you'd be very uncomfortable. Anyways. We were immediately seated and brought water. We decided upon recommendation to try out the Thai wings due to popularity. 8 of them came out piping hot and super crispy and delicious served with a clear peanut sauce. We were both impressed by how crispy and how perfectly cooked they were! We both went with the chicken pad Thai - where you get to order your level of heat. I chose two stars which was mild/medium mixed and hubs ordered 3 stars which was medium. Mine came out tasting very...fishy. Like a lot of fish sauce unfortunately - but I added quite a bit of chili paste and it took out the fish flavor. Hubs liked his and said it wasn't spicy in general but was over all making his nose run the more he ate through it. Service was nice - I think we had...3 servers total that were sharing us. This place is so yummy! We order it all of the time because it is super close to my work. Their fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce is to DIE FOR. Came here for a weekend dinner (2/18/17) and around the same time last year (2/15/16). I also came here another time for the buffet. Service: Everytime I come here, I get excellent service. The first time was memorable because our waitress was extremely sweet and funny and talked to me about the sauces. Since I liked a sauce so much, she came out with another one for me to try that was unique. They always ask how spicy we want the food and it's usually consistent on spiciness each time. Food: I usually order the Robin hood ribs or any other noodle dish which has never served me wrong. All the food comes out hot, fresh, and taste great for the price. Especially if you get a Groupon. Buffet: It was okay to me. It might have been because I had the food a couple days before that, but it is not up to par as if you had ordered off the regular menu like most lunch buffets. Their lunch buffet runs from 11-2:30 on the weekdays for about $8.95 and the weekends from 11-3 for about $13.95. (more options on weekends) The staff is SUPER friendly and really attentive. They're always coming around and refilling our drinks and asking us if we need anything. The inside decor has a comforting homey feeling that is reminiscent of MY childhood. The buffet options on the weekend are plentiful. There's foods from all parts of the Thai region. They have everything from Sticky Rice, Laab, Papaya Salads and even favorites like Pad Thai and Beef Pho! There's bound to be something for everyone! I asked for mild and got spicy. The spring rolls were rather bland. Most Thai places are pretty expensive but I felt that for what we got, we paid too much at this particular joint. I think if you're really craving Thai and are in the area, you won't be terribly disappointed, but if you're willing to drive an extra 5-10 min to the next place I'd say go for that! read more

Its been quite a few years since I have eaten at the lunch buffet. A late dinner after a solid workout called for Thai food. They weren't very busy and our server was very friendly and attentive. Our staple order of crab rangoon was ordered and came out fresh. Not my favorite rangoon but it did have its share of cream cheese and crab. She suggested the massaman curry medium and I ordered the chicken pad thai. It took quite a while for our food to arrive but you could tell it was made to order. His dish was a good serving size and plentiful of vegetables. It had a nice smooth medium heat. My pad thai had a nice sweet flavor and soft noodles with plenty of toppings. I ended up putting some heat on mine from the spice rack and will have them fix it with some spice next time. We visited with the lady for quite a bit and she was very friendly. This consistently checks in as one of my favorite overall meals in KC. We're talking top two or three, so I feel like I need to update my old review with a little more details. I live 25 minutes from here (50 min. round trip) and I'll still call in take out with regularity. First, their red and green curries (ask for "extra vegetables") are among the best, most flavorful, loaded up, amazing curries you will ever have. They have a thick coconut milk base, and you can control the amount of spice by a star system: 1 star: Not that hot. 2 star: More than a little kick. 3 star: Oh god, why. 4 star: See through time. 5 star: The great unknown. Aside from the amazing flavors in their curries, the extra veggies add a heartiness and they use good veggies; broccoli, cauliflower, peas, peppers, bamboo shoots, carrots. It's spoiled me at other Thai spots where the curries are more broth than substance. Other things I've tried here are the Pad Thai (very good, although I'm not as big a fan of Pad Thai in general as I used to be), the Pad Se Ew (just OK as it appears to be store bought noodles instead of handmade), and a handful of other dishes that were all awesome. A lot of people that have heard of Bangkok P know it for the buffet. I'm really not a fan of any buffet. This one is better than others, and especially on a weekday lunch it's probably the best value around. However, I'm still a fan of getting an actual dinner or carryout here way more than the buffet. The staff here has always been friendly, and it's a family run spot. It's not a hip, perfectly located spot by any means and thank god that it isn't. I decided to order the strangest thing I could find which resulted in Level 2 Red Thai Duck Curry! (which came with rice) This curry had pineapple and tomotoes with the duck and was incredibly delicious! My friend shared her spring rolls. Every bite was like biting into a lovely vegetable garden. Thai food comes in levels of hotness. I got Level 2 and it was almost too spicy to handle! I can't imagine what Level 5 feels like!! Our waitress was delightful. We were stuffed by the end of our meal, but she came over with the check and offered us free dessert from the buffet!! How can you resist an offer like that!?! Despite being full, we decided to try dessert and thank goodness we did!!! We had some kind of glorious warm, brown sugar tapioca pudding which was absolutely amazing! OHMYGODYOUGUYS I love this place!! Best curry in town, tied with Thai House on Holmes, in my humble opinion. The yellow curry is to die for! Everything else is delicious too, according to my family. I just stick with the yellow curry at dinner- I know what works for me. I get it with chicken and extra rice on the side. The staff is lovely, it's very clean, their lunch buffet is a wonderful bang for your buck, and their Thai iced coffee is perfect. One bit of warning though- you order your level of preferred spiciness in a scale of 1-5. They claim 2 is mild/medium, and maybe I'm just becoming a wimp in my old age, but I swear that the 2 is more like a spicy 3 or 4. My family and I came here for their Thai lunch buffet, which starts at 11am on Sundays! It is $14/person - tips are added to tables 5+. We came as soon as it opened so it wasn't as busy and the buffet bar was ours. The servers were very attentive. They came around and got our plates right away, and refilled drinks multiple times! They have a small selection of items, but they are all pretty delicious. My favorite items: the fried rice, shrimp, and curry battered flounder fish. The shrimp has lots of flavor, but it does get messy, since you have to peel the shell on your own. They also have this taro dessert that is just warms me up and is a great way to end a meal. Overall, the service was amazing and I enjoy Sundays that we can make it out here together! Give this place a try if you want to try a little of everything Thai. read more
