#29 - Pineapple Curry (GF, V) Heat Level: M++ Very Spicy
    Jessica H.

Bangkok Thai Deli is easily one of my top takeout spots in the entire Twin Cities. I've put in the legwork over the years (seriously, I've eaten at nearly every Thai restaurant in Minneapolis and St. Paul), and Bangkok still sits firmly in my top two. It's authentic, the flavors are bold, the menu is huge, and after seven years of loyal ordering, they have never let me down. Not once. I've made my way through a generous portion of their menu, and a few all-stars always have me coming back for more: the pineapple and green curries, Khao Soi, Stir-Fried Basil, Yum-Nam-Khao-Tod, Chicken Skewers, and the Larb E-San. Today my husband and I ordered our usual - pineapple curry and green curry for lunch. I also grabbed a Thai Tea, which is basically dessert disguised as a beverage. No regrets. I used to order my pineapple curry with "no spice." Then I met my husband, who orders everything at the maximum spice level, and also happens to favor the pineapple curry. Once we started ordering together, my "no spice" curry magically began arriving as hot as his. I'm convinced they batch-cook them, and I became collateral damage. After suffering several unplanned mouth fires, I switched to the green curry--and honestly, best decision ever. The flavor is incredible, the eggplant is tender, and it converted me. But fair warning: even their "no spice" has a respectable kick. If you're sensitive to spice, maybe start with something milder. My husband, on the other hand, is absolutely unhinged and gets the spiciest level plus adds chili oil. The dining room is very casual, the staff is always warm, and while we mostly get takeout, eating in has always been pleasant with consistently good service. I could talk about this place forever. If you love Thai food, or just want takeout that won't betray you, Bangkok Thai Deli is a must-try in the Twin Cities.

Pros: Variety of food options, big place with many tables, friendly staff Cons: Very small portions compared to the price charged. Basil noodle dish is about 60% portions of the to-go box. Yam woon sen is just half of the box while the other half is the side vegetables which they could have packed it separately. Boat noodle soup is also small portions. We got extra $1 noodle but don't see much difference for that extra amount. Dries noodle is very salty. Overall, we were a bit disappointed. I didn't get the chance to take pictures of the food because of some circumstances.

The first thing that caught my attention was the parking spaces; I was pleased to see that the restaurant had designated parking, which is definitely a benefit. My long awaited Yen Ta Fo hit the spot, I didn't have to add more seasoning to my broth since it was already perfect, and the papaya salad is one of the best I've had in the Twin Cities. The staff was prompt and attentive. I would definitely recommend it.

Vibrant restaurant. Prompt service. They serve the food as soon as it's ready. Great peanut sauce. Loved the peanut Satay. Excellent beef boat soup and fried fish dish. Great experience.

I would like to start off by saying this place has been on my go to list, however i havent had time until today. I would say the food was great. My friend and I got many different dish and they all came out great! One thing i would say is the customer service is really not that great. We waited a while for them to take our orders and the food took a while to come out. I understand that they were short staff. The food was great each one has a different taste. The soup was super yummy. The stir fry basil was super yummy. When they said that its spicy they mean it. I love spicy food. Also, the food wasnt salty and it was super good. The thai tea is kind of water down. I would recommend this place.

    Pork #7 - Pad-Thai (GF, V)

Heck yes, pad Thai! I ordered pork pad thai today without green onion, medium heat, and was not disappointed. I ordered pork belly a while ago and that was great, too. Would recommend, a staple of Frogtown!

We ordered basil beef stir fry and the eggplant plant and shrimp with ground pork stir fry. The beef was not good at all, the meat was very very dry( if you couldn't tell from the pic, it was leather ) , we can't taste the basil at all. The eggplant was better but a bit too salty. We wouldn't hurry back.

We've only had lunch here but I hear the breakfast is just as good, especially the hash browns and tomato jam. We've had the Pool and Yacht, Raffi Luigi and the Gigi. Incredible! Their chicken salad is pulled chicken with white and dark meat, herbs and pepperoncini, etc. Really love it. The Giardinera is nice because it's almost blitzed in a food processor so it's smaller and doesn't fly out of the sandwich when you bite into it. They don't overdo the sauces either. Just enough on the sandwiches. The only downfall is that some things can be spicy, especially the potato salad. Like really spicy. So much so it's all you taste. That won't stop me from going back though. I crave a sandwich the minute I'm done. Oh and they also have a provisions case where you can buy packed items like pimento cheese, chicken salad, etc. Go there. You will love it! Open daily til 3pm. Closed Mondays. Breakfast has a cut-off time depending on the day, but lunch is served open til closed.

Being 5 minutes from our destination we decided to give it a try And boy are we glad we did! The sammiches weee absolutely outstanding. They come with a smorgasbord of toppings, so you need to peruse the list to determine if there is anything you DON'T want. We had three turkey sammiches and one ham, and everyone chose to modify their toppings slightly (note/ if you desire tomatoes, those need to be added as they oddly aren't on included in the smorgasbord ‍) I opted for everything - perhaps a bit anxious about how well all the flavours would mesh (mayo, mustard, horseradish, oil and vinegar along with various toppings). But you know something / it worked really really well. We also chose the potato salad as a side and it was also quite tasty. Lighter, northerly mayo's. While the sammiches weee being constructed we perused the offering in the attached grocery. Everything oooed fantastic and if we lived Locally, I would certainly be a regular - with an eye to trying many of their offerings beyond the sandwich counter.

I love myself a cheesesteak and I wanted to see if this would be a new favorite I'd enjoy wearing out. They loaded this sandwich with onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. The bread was some of the softest I've experienced though and the cheese was a good amount. The combo was paired with a pickle spear and a bag of potato chips. This may sound strange, but can potato chips steal the show? Because they did. Super crunch and salty. Yum-O! I tried their coleslaw too and it seemed like to sat there awhile. It was tasteless and I ended up throwing the pint out. I immediately started to worry. Unfortunately my worries have slowly " come true" ...and with an extremely upset heart, Crossroads has changed. Scott and Stu had dedication and sheer love of cooking and baking with the BEST of ingredients and exquisite rare perfect use of spices. Their flavors in everything they touched were some of the VERY BEST I have experienced nationally and in my home state of NY where my father taught Biochemistry in the Bronx at Einstein Med School (1955-1980) and where my intense passion for Delicatessen cuisine originated. Coming almost daily to Crossroads truly made my day! I adored EVERYTHING they created. Even shipped a large lemon coconut cake to mom's beloved 90 year old boss at Scarsdale Medical Center 8 years ago! Today: Their rye bread with caraway seeds was identical to Grossinger's. Now almost zero flavor. The broasted chicken if served hot fresh out of the cooker is still excellent. Some of the original spices gone. The lemon coconut cake has zero real lemon flavor just deep yellow coloring, Their pastrami and corned beef also lost 1/3 to 1/2 of their original flavor plus the size of the sandwiches 1/3-1/2 the original size. The new main dishes are almost tasteless. Their original recipes for matzo ball soup, etc are still good - - vary 8-10 rating. They no longer use as much/ perhaps any butter in their coffee cake " breads" which used to be a 10. Many cookies and tiny pastries in the same display case are still good. Compared to many other restaurants today they are now just " an ok". Gone are the days when Crossroads Deli was " TRULY SPECTACULAR "......
