It can transform an ordinary drink into something special. It makes the magic of coffee last throughout the entire day. I was immediately welcomed when I walked into the Outer Bean. Initially, I was bummed because cortados were not on the menu. I asked the barista if she would try to make one. She said sure. I gave her general directions and she walked to the espresso machine. A couple of minutes later she handed me a cup with two shots of espresso and a stainless steel pitcher with steamed milk. The barista said, "Why don't you add the milk in so you get it just the way you want." I thought this was a thoughtful gesture. I thanked her and made my cortado. We chatted a bit. It turned out she is Thai and my husband is Thai; and I love to talk about Thailand. I took a few pictures. We exchanged goodbyes and I exited the cafe with a genuine smile and a very positive impression of the Outer Bean. Smiles are free and they can elevate and/or improve any situation. Plus, folks always look better when they smile. I hope you make this world a better place by sharing your smile with someone today. Since I'm a lawyer, I work where I dine much of the time and never experienced such a problem trying to get seated. The hostess asked me if upstairs was okay and suggested it would be quieter. Assuming she was taking me to a 4 top upstairs, I went up with her only to find there were a bunch of 2-tops. At that point, it felt as if I was not heard or cared about--as if I were unwelcome--despite being pleasant with the staff from the moment I walked in. So I was about to go back down the stairs and said it's okay I'll just go somewhere else. Then a woman on the staff overheard me and it was suggested I could sit at the bar. I explained that's not a good space because the bar area can become loud. And this is especially so when people become intoxicated. So basically my options were a little two-top or the bar. I ended up leaving. I worked very hard in the restaurant industry before I enlisted in the Coast Guard and eventually became an attorney, which is why I always make it a point to be polite to service staff. And I would've never treated people the way I was treated here. I could understand them not wanting me to take up the space of a 4 top if it were a Friday, a weekend, or later in the day, but this is Thursday right at opening time at 5pm when the restaurant isn't even busy. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

I actually really like that you order at the counter and seat yourself. Your food is paid for upfront, so when you're finished, you can simply leave without waiting around for a check. It makes the whole experience feel very relaxed and easy. We tried the Riesling wine selection, and it was delicious. I ordered the Italian sandwich, and my fiancé got the pretzel. Both were really good. Between the delicious food and wine, relaxed atmosphere, and incredible views, we truly got to sit back and savor the experience.
