We had a great dining experience here on 12/6/25. Everything we ordered was excellent, and the service was also superb. The look/feel of the restaurant was very comfortable. This was in December, so too cold to sit on the deck. We ordered: - Samosa appetizer - Chana Masala - Paneer Saag - Garlic Naan - Taj Mahal beer They offer 4 levels of heat: mild, medium, hot, and "Indian hot". I like spicy, but have had some dishes which were too hot in the past, so I went with "hot". It was perfect - very hot (made my head sweat), but not so hot as to be unpleasant. Mango Lassi 10/10- you're given a generous amount compared to other restaurants I've been too. Delicious and creamy. Butter chicken (hot) 10/10- it was not oily or extremely heavy. We had Trey helping us today on a Saturday afternoon, turning out to be a super busy day- no surprise there! Look at the location and the food rocks. They did their best to accommodate a carnivore, herbivore group of ourselves as well as trying to accommodate shellfish allergies. All foos has a common fryer so attention to allergic folks- the restaurant stuff will go over the allergens well with you IF you remind them about fried food. We will always return to this location because everything was delicious. The chicken tikka appetizer was well loved, all curries were beautifully seasoned and an extra dip of fire-red-hot sauce was given to me for my 'heat' crave! The sangria pairs well and they had a decent offering for wines and beer. The chef is Nepali and you get a nice Indian-Nepal flavor profile. In for the win! read more

This place has quite a location, right on the bay. Unfortunately, we went on a rather windy day with our k9 family member and could not be seated as outdoor dining was closed (not their fault). Instead, we ended up doing a take out. Loved the entries but we were quite surprised by the limited offerings on the bread side (no tandoori rotis!?). We went with Naan - and were further disappointed to find that they were undercooked. Perhaps a bad day or just a systematic issue with the oven, hard to tell. So this was a smack three star experience but the extra star is for the fabulous location, if you can dine outdoors on their deck. read more

My husband and I drove up from Nags Head on a rainy night. The turn into the parking lot comes quickly after the bridge so we missed it and had to turn around. Even without the outdoor seating available, there was no wait. The service was quick and cheerful. I loved the clearly marked vegan options. We appreciate a chat option that didn't have yogurts so it was our first time trying the Bhel Puri. I then had the Chana Saag and my husband had the Chicken biryani. If it hadn't been raining there would have been a great view of the water and they may have opened the doors on nice days. Highly recommend. read more

The food is where things went super down hill. I ordered butter chicken and my friends ordered dal, butter paneer, and garlic naan. They asked for spice level and we told them "hot" and everything came out sugary and sweet. The butter chicken seemed to have the same amount of sugar a sweet tea would have. It was insane. There was no spice, no flavor, just sugar. My friends were also saying their dishes were sweet but flavorless. We told the wait staff and they just said sorry, that's all. Best vegan food on the beach, this place owns my entire gut micro biome. My favorite appetizer is the Veg. Pakora but the samosas are close behind. There's another one with puffed rice i got once that was different from anything I'd had before but was very good. Entree. Chana masala is my absolute favorite meal on the Outer Banks, naan isn't vegan but if it was that would make it even better. I've also had aloo gobi and that was my favorite. But I don't like peas. Stopped by this location as we drove by on our way home from the Outer Banks. We loved the decor, the colors, the service, the food, and the view. I loved the location the most as it was a relaxing and family oriented location. They have several options to choose from whether you prefer to eat outside on the deck, in the bar, the main restaurant, or out on the lawn at one of the picnic tables. My family lives on the beach so they have frequented a few times and spoke in high regards, thought this was my first. Our best meal of our trip was here. Located literally right at the mainland bridge before crossing over to Kitty Hawk, Masala Bay Grill offers an authentic assortment of N Indian cuisine with beautiful scenery. On the menu are a few of the typical Indian dishes that Americans seem to know and love (Butter Chicken for example) but take a look at the vegetarian cuisines which offer a unique assortment of traditional and flavorful dishes. The shamsavera kofta is a vegetarian dish filled will spices, cheese, and an amazing fried potatoes ball. One of the best meals I've had. Main courses are served with rice. They offer both regular and garlic naan. The establishment is clean the service was excellent. Few but good wine choices and they do also offer a small children's menu (cheese quesadillas, popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders). Very simple. The view is beautiful. Wow! Incredible seafood dishes!! Came here for my birthday--I'm usually vegan, but I decided to splurge as I love seafood and Indian is my fave. The garlic shrimp appetizer was on point, so flavorful we kept the plate to dip our naan in the sauce. I got the Shrimp Korma and it was the best I've ever had (I've gotten it a decent amount of times over the years), big, juicy shrimps, incredible sauce, even tasty as leftovers the next morning. I buried the lead: my boyfriend got the special, Salmon Tandoor, and it was ridiculously, stupidly delicious...perfectly seasoned, very fresh, with the sliiiightest of crisp on the exterior. We ate outside on the deck, beautiful waterfront view (the bridge can be noisy with cars as a trade off). Wow... its located just near the Wright brothers memorial bridge. They have a bar. Sitting can be done inside-outside and there is patio too. What amazed me they have private small 4 piers. One can have sit at the pier and enjoy the view of backwater-bridge. I am totally impressed. Coming to food- We were there for lunch, so we ordered 3 platters Vegetable platter- comes with dal makhani and paneer saag- good Chicken platter- comes with chicken curry and butter chicken-good Chicken and lamb platter- comes with lamb curry and butter chicken- good, lamb is okay We ordered lassi few mocktails too and those were great too. I see this place all the time when going N from OBX and have always wanted to try it. Inside is unexpectedly open and bright, done in what I'll call "beach meets garage chic" decor. We started with the Chaat Papari appetizer. Wasn't expecting a cold dish, but it was DELICIOUS! Both crunchy and a little creamy with a yummy savory sauce, chickpeas, tomatoes, onions, crispy rice cracker bits, and what must have been fresh lemon juice to make it super-bright and fresh! Hubby had the Salmon Tandoori special and loved it. The photo is deceiving, but it was a very large portion. I went with my go-to Chicken Tikka Masala. Should have chosen something more exotic, but we did that with the appetizer. The Garlic Naan basket was PERFECTly warm and chewy. I'm no expert in Indian cuisine at ALL, so my review of the actual flavors may be way off. Spice level was perfect, but I'd have to say more salt would be welcome in the flavor department. We have been meaning to cross the bridge and try Masala Bay ever since it opened. I wonder about the location and their prospects as an Indian restaurant when It would seem that most people come here to eat the local seafood. Never-the-less, we spend enough time here that we do eat other things and we do like Indian cooking. We did not need any appetizers. Together we ordered Murgh Makhani (mild for Ms T) and Dal Makhani (medium for me) and because who doesn't like ghee. We scooped it up with an order of very good paratha, nicely buttered and grilled. It was accompanied by a very nice serving of fluffy basmati. The menu is fairly straight-forward, offering what you would expect. Our food was good, standard north Indian. I liked the medium heat in the dal and probably would order it hotter, next time. I would liked more souring agent (amchur or tamarind) in both dishes. I left it at medium for Ms T and it was too hot for her anyway. The portions were good. We ate it all and it was too much. I hope I can get back once per visit to the Outer Banks. I give it 3-1/2 stars and round down until we get some more experience with it, but if you eat north Indian cooking in restaurants that are scattered around in small town America, you will find it to be fine. read more

Called at 8pm to ask if they have space for a group of 11, and were told that we should come right in, that there was no wait. Drove 20 minutes to get here. This restaurant has a sign at the front noting that from 9-10pm, it's take out only, which we were never informed about. Our group arrived at 8:35pm, we told her we called about a table for 11, and the waitress stared at us like we were crazy and then told us that they had told us to come in by 8:30 (the restaurant closes at 10). The staff (one waitress in particular) was incredibly rude, when we said this is a misunderstanding she said "let's talk outside," then shut the door on us when we walked to the patio and walked away. It was utterly bizarre. Literally no manners and incredibly rude. Rating this 1 star for the abhorrent and rude waitress. Honestly worst service we've encountered. We have been here before with a large group and will absolutely never come back. read more

Wow! I've traveled all over the country and this is easily some of the best Indian food I have ever had. Extremely flavorful, amazing composition of textures....and the first time having seafood in an Indian dish. Split a few dishes with a friend to try more things: the samosa special, the scallop dish, and a kofka(?) dish. Sunil was in the kitchen and absolutely rocking it. When you first walk in there is a bar area. Then in the back room is the dining area and out the back doors is a deck with outdoor seating. We sat in the dining room because it was 100 degrees that day. The service was pretty fast and the food was absolutely delicious. I can't remember the names of all the dishes we ordered but the five of us all shared. And as I said all delicious. If you like Indian food you definitely need to check them out. The waitstaff, although friendly, was glaringly oblivious to the intricacies of Indian food. When I asked our server a question about the preparation of one of the dishes, not only was he unable to pronounce the dish, but he was unable to say how was prepared and said he would check in the kitchen. While everyone at the table was impressed with the taste and quality of their food, I was underwhelmed at best. Frankly, I could make better Indian food at home. My tandoori chicken was bland, and dry. The "lentil soup" had an absence of lentils, and a lack of space as was mentioned in the menu.
