This was my first visit to this restaurant. The service was wonderful. Service was quick and food delicious. I highly recommend.

We received some kind social media feed that tempted us to make the drive to Vilai Thai for take-out dinner. It is a 25 minute round trip, so have not tried it before. This is a nice little place with a pretty complete menu. I struggled to choose. It would be quite pleasant to dine-in here but they are probably doing more carry-out. Ms T chose her usual Pad See Ewe with chicken. The chicken was dry and had not absorbed any flavor. It was missing that smoky flavor that comes with noodles fried this way. It was barely OK. I decided to try the Gai Yang Thai Barbecue Chicken. I received a chunk of very dry breast meat and a drumstick. Again the flavorings were not remarkable. This breast piece was dry, nearly inedible. I chopped it up and put some of the good soy based sauce that they provided and managed to eat it. The drumstick was not dry, but again was not flavorful. This came with vegetables that I really liked. I seriously do not think the rice was Jasmine. It was not fragrant. It was more like Japanese sticky rice. The Chicken with Thai basil was the best of the lot. I was concerned about too much basil, but ended up wishing for more. This chicken was better than the other dishes. We really wanted to like this food but were disappointed. We enjoy Thai flavors and they were sadly lacking here. The servings were generous. For us this is a weak three stars. read more

Great service (we were the only diners), but the food was disappointing. The lo mein was gray, overcooked, and lacked flavor, and the egg roll looked unappetizing. This is going to be a very short review... although we were craving Thai food and this was one of the only places to eat at due to a holiday, this place was unfortunately a major disappointment. The inside is cute and quaint with the staff being friendly. The food in the other hand was a disappointment. The pad see ew was more of an Italian noodle dish and egg noodles were not used, it was flavorless. The yellow curry needed some more distinct flavor to pack a punch. The prices were high though portion size was decent. Unfortunately I don't think I'd be back to this place. read more

Solo craving for Thai food - it was around lunchtime - had a genius idea! Order from the LUNCH SPECIALS MENU - between 11AM - 3PM - and maybe I would have some leftovers for dinner or later. I placed an order for a single dish - Chicken Pad Thai - $12.99! Lunch Specials include a spring roll. It was a 30 minute drive one-way to pick up carryout but given how delish and authentic the food is here from my first visit (and the price point!), I went ahead and ordered. If you check out the Lunch Specials menu, just like I did, you will scratch your head. The only "real" classic Thai dishes included in the lunch specials are Pad Thai and Thai Fried Rice. No Thai curries. And then there are Thai "Bento Boxes," chicken tenders (??) and General Tso's (Chinese). A strange mix of lunch special menu items. The Lunch Special portion size was HUGE. I took a pic and video - have a look. Taste was delicious even though ofc not as piping hot and fresh as if I had eaten in. Carryout will NEVER compare to eat-in. There and back was literally an hour before I was able to dig into the Pad Thai back at the house - but honestly $12.99 (yes 13 bucks!) for what I got which lasted a couple extra snack-sized meals was totally worth taking advantage of the lunch special pricing! Delicious - even though the noodles stuck to each other and clumped together. I wish there had been a bit more chicken and veggies in the dish but otherwise, huge portion size and good value for the (lunch special) price. We came here as soon as we arrived in town since it was across the street from the hotel. The prices on the menu were decent and their menu was stuff I eat. It's a really small place inside no more than like 25 people can sit inside. The food was good I'll say that , my problem was the service. Our server was like a 12 old young girl. I honestly never saw any adults so I assume they were the cooks. The other server looked like maybe a high schooler. Can't blame the young girl because she's a kid but I thought child labor laws were a thing. I saw another little girl in the kitchen as well with no hair net on. I know, I know, why are you eating Thai in a seafood town? I live in a seafood town with very limited Asian options. This may have been one of the worst restaurant meals I have ever eaten. What I love about Thai is the freshness and brightness of flavors: cilantro, lemongrass, basil. The three things we tried had had none of that. The Thai wonton soup tasted like average Chinese wonton soup with mediocre wontons, the wrappers were excessive and floppy. The glass noodle dishes we had were more like overcooked fettuccine which fell apart and drowning in sauce, which was more like gravy and bland. My husband's lumpia were okay, but much more wrapper than filling. Service was just okay, as our server left the restaurant in the middle of our meal and upon her return, her colleague said, "Oh, there you are!" I wish I could have my money back because this was a total waste. read more

This is a small little (seemingly) family owned restaurant. Only about 7 or 8 tables in the whole place so not a place I would take a whole family hoping to get seated. My server who was probably about 10 years old was surprisingly knowledgeable but a typical kid who kept getting distracted and I had to ask several times for a water. Food however was a 10 out of 10! I had the Thai style Pho and a Seaweed Salad. The Pho was HUGE and very flavorful. I will back to try some more dishes. read more

Loved this place. We were waited on by two young girls that gave us the best recommendations. I typically order the same thing when I go to Thai restaurants but let them decide what we were gonna have on a whim. Suggestions started with "money bags". I don't typically like fried food, but went ahead with the suggestion. Very good! Not greasy, but very decadent and filling. Next was pad as wee? Idk, but it was fat noodles, chicken and vegetables with a bit of a sweet flavor. Really good. Place is small and pretty, but enough room for 5 parties. A cute small restaurant that seems to be family owned. Service is very welcoming and kind. I ordered the beef pad see ew, which os usually my go to order for thai cuisine, and the beef panang curry. It was about a ~10 to 15 min wait, which is not bad at all! The beef pad see ew did not disappoint! Beef was super flavorful and tender. Noodles were a bit thinner than I was used to, but still delicious! Usually I finding pad see ew as quite a heavy dish, but this one was the perfect amount. The curry though... LOVED THE CURRY. Perfect to pour over rice. The sauce is seasoned very well, you can really taste all the spices and everything! Definitely recommend if you're in the area! read more

I was trying to get a salad at the nearby salad place, but the time listed on G was wrong (on here it was right but I'd also seen a picture if the hour sign which was outdated on here). In any case, the salad place was closed...but I still wanted some veggies. So, into Villai I marched. I ordered the chicken and broccoli because it said it came with other veggies, too. A very young person took my order, so I assume this is a family business. My order was ready in about 15 minutes and boy was it delicious. The chicken was honestly my least-favorite part. The veggies and sauce were all just THAT good. They have plenty of typical Thai take out dishes on their menu, and I'm sure they are all good. read more

Out of the Thai restaurants down here, this one is the best! My husband and I came here a few minutes before noon on a Sunday. A little old Asian lady came and opened the restaurant, served us, and cooked our food! Her younger family members came in a bit later to work the front. I just love family owned and operated places! We had the fresh shrimp rolls, drunken noodles, and pad Thai. Food tasted amazing and fresh, the service and the people were so nice, and the restaurant was clean and while small, very nice. A little underwhelmed with this cute Thai restaurant. We ordered 5 dishes and none stood out as great dishes. Their red curry lacked flavor and complexity. 3 other dishes were stir fry dishes and also lacked flavors that we are accustomed to having at other Thai restaurants. The pad Thai was nothing but noodles covered in an incredibly salty brown sauce with 2 TBL of finely shredded chicken. No more, no veggies, no peanuts, nothing. The s&s chicken was the orangest water we've ever seen with the same lame shredded chicken. Bonus: the few veggies in the orange water weren't bad. Saw the reviews and decided we should try this place. We ordered 4 dishes, Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodle), Basil Beef and Tao's Chicken. The portions for the Pad Thai & Pad Kee Mao were enormous! I would recommend if you ordered one of them, share it for two or three people. Especially if you would like to share/try other dishes. The Pad Thai was delicious and sadly that kind of was it. We got everything Thai hot (it was spicy but not Thai Hot-that's fine). The Beef Basil was extremely watery and we felt lacking in flavor. The portion for this and the Tso's chicken were relatively small, like only for one person small. The drunken noodle didn't use the traditional wide flat rice noodles and was literally a container of noodles with nothing much else. I grew up cooking pad Thai and pad Kee mao so in my honest opinion if you're looking for flavor filled Thai food, I don't think this is the place. If anything get the Pad Thai. read more

What a gem of a spot in the Outer Banks! The hospitality of the staff is a BIG plus. We ordered 2 appetizers (steamed dumplings and another from the special menu). Both great! For dinner, we had panang and curry dishes, as well as a tofu and vegetables dish. We also ordered a jasmine tea pot. The restaurant has an ample selection of beers and wines, too. I wish Yelp would allow you to reply directly to people's reviews but they don't, so here it is: I'm writing this 5 star review to offset the reviewer who gave the poor restaurant 1 star stating "i guess the people reviewing this place aren't well traveled... No one working In the restaurant was Taiwanese so obviously the food isn't authentic." As most of you *hopefully* know, Thai food is from Thailand where the people are Thai; not from Taiwan (China) where the people are Taiwanese. What a pleasant surprise! Came in with our 3 kids and parents. During covid, They were practicing social distancing well. Vilai Thai Kitchen had a limit of no more than 8 per party. It was pleasantly clean and not cluttered. Host was very nice and welcoming. Offered water without being asked. Cleaned up used plates without being asked! We ordered family style. With healthy portions of rice. Mild and hot - shrimp tom yum. Very flavorful filled with big shrimp, fresh tomatoes, button mushrooms and other green veggies. Both were a bit spicier than expected but the flavor was great. Mild and hot - panang chicken curry. Amazing flavors. Sweet curry flavor with the creamy coconut and Thai basil flavor. Had lots of slices of chicken and crunchy red and green peppers with more Thai basil. Mild and hot - shrimp and basil. Light brown sauce with mixed veggies. The veggies were still crunchy and sweet in flavor. Three flavored Crispy whole fried flounder - the fish was a bit over cooked but it was great and crispy and very flavorful. Sweeter side and the veggies that came with the dish was Smokey and still had a crunch. We didn't have any room for dessert or drinks. The food was delicious. So much better than other Thai places in the area. It was great seeing the amazing Thai cooks in the kitchen. Well done. Can't wait to go back. read more

Came here for lunch during our vacation to the outer banks. Around 2:00 for lunch on a Thursday- we were the only ones in the small restaurant. Our server was not very friendly. She also forgot multiple things during our time there- I understand that happens, but it was a little excessive. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls to start. They were yummy- nothing different than other spring rolls I've had in the past. My boyfriend and sister ordered the Thai style general tso's chicken. Amazing! I loved it. I kept stealing food off of his place because I loved it so much. The sauce was awesome and their were pineapple chunks mixed with the chicken. I ordered the drunken noodles. I found them to be quite flavorless and had to add soy sauce and then the general tso's sauce to them, to add flavor. After adding the general tso's sauce they were bearable and I enjoyed them. To put this review in context, my husband and I were starving when we arrived. We had just completed a 3 hour drive from the Triangle area. This restaurant was close to where we were staying so we decided to give it a try - it had decent reviews and, like I mentioned, we were very hungry. My husband ordered the Massuman Curry with Beef and I ordered the Pineapple fried rice with shrimp. We also ordered calamari as a appetizer. The meal was a disappointment. The calamari was cooked well but it was tasteless. The fried rice was very salty and the only saving grace was the pineapple which offset the saltiness. It was BAD y'all. I ate it, or as much if it as I could, bc I was starving and I'm not one to return a dish to be remade. My husband said the Massuman Curry sauce was fine but the ingredients were strange - mint, peppers, and pineapples? To top it off, the beef tasted stale and of low quality. Overall I feel like I it was not worth the money we spent there. We will not be returning and I don't recommend this restaurant if you want a good meal. read more

The food was pretty good and the service was solid. The restaurant is on the small side, it only seats about 30 people. Their food can be very spicy, so medium is probably the choice and you can ask for hot sauce on the side to increase the level of spice if necessary. I had the soft shell crab. The crab itself was good but I did not really like the sauce (see picture). It was a pretty good serving size. There was a good variety of appetizers. Kids liked the fried rice. read more

Delicious Thai cuisine. Cute restaurant in a strip shopping center. The food is prepared and served by family members. They are very caring and pay careful attention to your requests! We had the dim sum and mussels in coconut broth as starters.!We each had a curry. My guest had beef and I had shrimp curry. It was served with perfectly cooked jasmine rice. The heat was very manageable, just the right amount to enhance the others flavors. Beautiful lemon grass in both curry dishes. I would gladly go back and try other dishes! read more
