This place had come up on my quests for good many times. Today I was on the area and decided to stop by. I was greeted as soon as I entered. It's a small place on the corner of an alley. No frills mom & pop.. My type of place. The lady was super friendly and gave me suggestions. I seen Everyone getting the Roasted pork w/gravy, rice and corn($14.45). I was debating on getting that or the prime rib special($24.95) I went with the Roasted Pork because she said it was the most popular and I can always come back! It was amazing. Roast Pork w/ gravy was tender and flavorful. 8.5/10 Corn 7/10 Rice was fluffy and fresh 8.5/10 The lady and I chatted while I waited for my food. We talked about getting old, the weather and Muni. I think I'm more interested in speaking with her than the food. I will be back for us to chat and nd country more amazing food.

If you're looking for a tasty affordable meal that will fill you, New Lun Ting Cafe may be the destination for you! Was hungry and looking for a place to eat when I came across this hole in the wall. No one was inside but then a gentleman walked in so I decided to just follow since I was exhausted and hungry. Inside there are 4 booth and two tables. I sat at a booth and was promptly brought a menu and tea. After looking at a surprisingly large menu, I decided on the marinated pork chop lunch special which comes with soup and soda. The house soup came out and later a complimentary potsticker. The potsticker was juicy but a little oily on the outside. Soon my meal came and I was surprised that there were three finely sliced pork chops, a good portion of white rice and cabbage with corn. I was also brought a can of orange soda. The portion was large and the pork chops were easy to cut with the sharp knife he provided. The sauce was on point and I ate it all with my pork chop. I was surprised and definitely will be back. I saw they had a photo of a juicy prime rib for $25 so maybe I'll be back for dinner!

New Lun Ting Café is one of my favorite places to eat in San Francisco Chinatown. The staff there is always so nice and welcoming and the food is so comforting. My go to order is the oxtail stew over rice. The oxtail is always tender and flavorful and the sauce over the rice just hits the spot. Whenever you eat in they also give you a complimentary dumpling and a soup of the day. New lun ting is definitely gem.

I was craving some cheap eats in SF, and found this spot on Yelp's list of the best budget bites in town, so I stopped by for a late lunch and it did not disappoint. The place definitely has that "hasn't been remodeled in 50 years" feel. But, IMO, that gave it some true charm. I was seated promptly and perused their very extensive (and reasonably priced) menu of delightful options. Since New Lun Ting bills itself as a "pork chop house," I felt obliged to order their noodle soup with marinated pork chop. Soon enough, I could hear the sizzling of a pork chop from the nearby kitchen, which was cooked to perfection while I enjoyed my tea, a complimentary cup of soup, and a mini dumpling appetizer. When my giant bowl of goodness arrived, I was ready to dive in! The bowl of thin egg noodles was steeped in a hot broth and topped with the sliced pork chop. Luckily, I was hungry, but I still couldn't finish it as the portion was easily big enough for two people. I did my best, though! The prices here were truly fantastic. The giant bowl of noodle soup, with pork chop, was under $14. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a good, affordable meal and a true Chinatown experience.

What a lovely, comforting little restaurant!! We usually go to VIP Coffee and Cake Lounge but decided to try somewhere new and came here. Immediately I knew it would be good when we stepped in. We were given some small bowls of soup with carrot, lotus root, and abalone which tasted like it had been brewed for a nice long time. While waiting for our entrees, they gave us two potstickers on the house! So yummy. And the portion sizes were huge. Definitely would come back.

I come here every chance I get when in San Francisco. No restaurant makes the comfort food of curry lamb like here. I can't believe the restaurant was not too busy around noonish today. Maybe it's me but I thought the portion was getting smaller but then I say that all the time, lol. I can't believe this restaurant has been here for over 60 years. The layout has changed over the years and they used to also serve great apple pie and custard pie, but that's dating myself.

Came here during the new years parade in Chinatown and was recommended to dine here. Although a lot of spots were busy, this spot only had about a quarter or maybe half so it was pleasing to see ordering probably won't take too long or so I thought. It'll be cheaper to dine here if you brought cash on you! Service: the lady who took our order was the sweetest however the wait times for to-go orders was wild. I saw 5 people come in and out after us dining in. It took 40 minutes for them to give us our 2 plates of food. If you order to-go, be ready to not be priority even if the place isn't that busy. It's faster to dine-in than to-go, you'll save a lot of time. Ambiance: it's a hole in the wall spot next to an alley. It's small inside but it's a comforting Asian spot Salt and pepper wings $10 (4/5): These were solid, it's a classic appetizer at any Chinese restaurant. Don't exactly remember how many wings there were (6 pieces?) but they were decently sized and enough to fill me Soup: Looks like all meals come with a complimentary free soup. It was a nice meal cleanser, it's bland but it does the job tasting very healthy. Honestly it's shocking to watch multiple people come in, eat, paid, then walk out after 40 minutes of waiting for pick up order of only 2 dishes. I'd probably come back to dine in and try their popular dish but yea won't be doing to-go orders from now on

Good food low prices at this Chinatown landmark hole in the wall. Roast Pork with gravy a must try.

I think the pork chop alone was a bit dry. Though the value was pretty good for $14. Came with dumpling soup and tea. I think I'm supposed to be ordering something with a sauce as it looked like everyone else did. So next time I shall try again.

$15 lunch combo - combo roast pork & corned beef
    Carmen S.

Wow!! My fiancé has always raved about this spot and I finally had the opportunity to come try this gem for myself. We both ordered the combo with roast pork and corned beef which also comes with a bowl of soup, a dumpling & a can of soda. I believe they offer the $15 lunch combo that they were offering during SF Restaurant Week as a regular item now. The portions are huge, I couldn't finish my plate and actually had enough for another meal. The dumpling was big, juicy and flavorful! I believe they make the dumplings in house as well. The bitter melon soup is similar to the type of 老火湯 you can expect from your grandma or mom! Overall the food was flavorful but not overly salty & for $15 the lunch combo is a steal! Highly recommend to come and try at least one and support a small local business. Cant wait to come back and try other dishes!

    Jaime N.

Definitely one of the best potstickers I've had. Very meaty filling. Tastes different than a traditional potsticker in a great way. It is a bit doughy at the top, but not a big deal. The roasted pork here is surprising extremely moist and tender. I would come back here. I'm looking forward to their other dishes.

Come here for a no frills lunch or dinner. Big portions and fast service. Our family lives to get take out or dine in restaurant. Our go to is always the roast pork and ox tail. You get a side of house soup, pan fried dumpling your entree and fruit as dessert. The roast pork comes in a generous portion with orange sauce, its tender come with a heap of rice to soak up the sauce. The staff speak English and Cantonese and are happy to help you.

    Roasted pork with gravy
    Serena L.

Great place for Chinese pork chops! Huge portions and super tasty. Do note that if you come during a hot day, expect to sweat a lot since there was no AC when we went. Roasted pork with gravy - 4.5/5, a mixture of dry and tender pork chops doused in some sort of gravy, comes with rice and some veggies. The tender parts of the pork were delicious, while the dry parts were a bit too dry. The gravy isn't too salty but definitely flavorful. Ox tail with bean curd - 4/5, a few pieces of meaty ox tail with bean curd. Also topped with gravy and comes with rice. The meat is also tender, and the sauce is just right. Bean curds are soft and soaked up the sauce. They gave us 2 big potstickers with the dishes, which was pretty tasty.

Grandpa approved complementary soup and dumplings!

What originally started as a disappointment became a huge blessing once we found the board room. Feet aching, sweaty, and tired we made our way to this bar. Immediately you could tell it's a local favorite, the ambiance was nice and a great spot to people-watch. There was a cup flipping event which was super fun to spectate, along side the rotating pictures of the bar's beloved pooches . We ordered 2 western burgers, 12 count bone-in wings (half bbq, half Hawaiian), and an appetizer of corn dogs, tater tots, bacon Mac & cheese bites, and mozzarella sticks. Later we also added boneless buffalo wings which were so tangy, well-seasoned, and HOT. The western bacon burgers were so delicious, crispy bacon, crispy onion rings, and some bomb.com bbq sauce. The wings were drowned in sauce (just how we like them) , the bbq was to die for and the Hawaiian had the perfect little kick of spice for our picky eaters. The appetizer platter was also fried to perfection, with the perfect crunch on the tater tots & corn dogs. The Mac & cheese bites & mozzarella sticks were perfectly cheesed, with an amazing cheese pull on the mozzarella sticks. Along with the food, my boyfriend and I ordered some drinks. I got a margarita and he got a Guinness. Both drinks were good, very standard and well served. The couple behind the bar were very funny and super kind to us being dazed after all the walking. On our way back down to SoCal my brother is still raving about the burgers, this is a MUST-STOP the next time we come up to San Francisco!!

The outdoor patio is definitely a blast for a summer day in SF, also converting to a free Tango class at 6:30 on Wednesday evening. We started with some special drinks as recommended by Ali, the most generous guy you've ever met. We got Japanese Artisan Gin Pomegranate Mint Martini and AB's Espresso Martini. They were so refreshing after we had to walk on some hills in 80degree weather in SF. After that, the appetizers we ordered came out with Caprese Salad & Mahmoud's Delicious Pork Ribs. The portion was huge for just appetizer. It's been a while for me to have that crispy baguette toasted with olive oil & vinegar, nothing could be better than that. The ribs were tender, the bonus point was definitely the sauce as it wasn't too sweet like the other places. You can't miss pizza in an Italian restaurant, so we ordered my favorite Crispy Prosciutto De Parma, Poached Pear. Prosciutto is my love so I'll just order it wherever I go if they have it on the menu. Super crispy, even though it's not as thin as I expected, I'd still order it again when we come back. It's served with a bowl of cheese powder and chili flakes so you can customize your pizza. The main entrees were definitely pasta and we just had our eyes bigger than our stomach. If you don't know what to order, ask Ali and he'll be more than happy to help you with all the recommendations, and even offer some alternatives for your pasta when the restaurant is not too crowded. My favorite was Pasta Dellacasa with Prawns added, mixing of all the sauces they have. It was so rich and I felt like no other pasta we had can be compared. They serve it hot and you can ask for as much cheese as you want for your pasta because they make it at the table for you. The place was really cool since the building was built over 100 years ago. Even the trees we were sitting next to are over 100 years old, which is pretty cool. You can even find the menu when the original place just opened, with pasta price ranged from $2-3.

At the host stand, she heard the manager tell a woman who clearly didn't have a reservation she would be sat in 3 minutes. After hearing that, my wife showed the manager the buzzer we had been given and asked, "So how much longer for us?" The manager replied "It may be another 10 minutes." We then watched them scramble to clear a table and immediately give the table to the woman who had arrived after us. Upon this disappointment we decided to leave because if they can't get something simple like seating guests respectfully right, I can only imagine what else they'll screw up. People don't remember what you do... They remember how you made them feel. As a hospitality professional, not only was this experience totally unavoidable but it left me feeling disrespected and not valued - as a customer; as a person. In being honest, I have to mention that, oddly enough, as I looked around during this disappointment I noticed that everyone seated and being rapidly seated were of one particular ethnic group. Everyone waiting was part of various minority groups which made this incident even more sickening - reinforcing our decision to not only choose to spend our money somewhere else on that day, but to never spend any money there... EVER. I was extremely excited to visit this place and to be shown this kind of treatment further proves that there are still some places that don't want minority dollars so much they simply don't care how they treat you. And unfortunately for them, I'm certainly sharing this experience with as many visitors to the city as I can letting them know "There a MANY fine places to eat in the city... but I'll tell you where NOT to go - unless you feel like being treated like a second-class citizen." Please check in with your personal values before choosing to support this place. Sotto Mare... you all really need to invest in some cultural sensitivity training. It's 2026. Highly disappointed.
