Last meal of 2024, and it did not disappoint! I was so pleased to see on the in-store menu that they have general Tso's tofu--a dish that was absent online. I tried that, and a wonderfully affordable side of veggie fried rice. It even came with white rice for no extra charge. Portions are generous here; I left with enough for an entire second meal the next day. I spent only 21 dollars for all that. The general Tso's sauce was delicious, but it was slightly lacking in salt, so I added the soy sauce packets that came with it. The veggie fried rice was the same. Seems they may be playing it safe since a lot of folks have become anti-salt in recent years. The tofu had excellent texture--chewy inside, crisp outside--just how I like it. The ambience is very spare and basic but they do have tables for dining in, so no complaints. Just isn't a romantic place to take a first date. It was a satisfying meal all in all. First time in New Orleans and was looking for something a bit on the cheaper side that wasn't fast food. Found this place and was hoping it was good. I wasn't expecting much from Golden Wall, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was quite good. The menu has all the traditional favorites here in America, plus an extensive variety of vegan options. The portions are larger than expected (more about that later, though), and the vegetables are abundant and fresh. Added bonus: the staff spoke Mandarin and were gracious in my attempts to order in my rusty Chinese. Where the restaurant falls short: it's clear they want you to take your food and get out. Yes, they have seating, but it's spartan and uninviting. Secondly, while the portions are generous, there's a cheapness that I found irritating. We ordered two dishes that came with rice, but they only gave us one small portion of rice, total. When I asked for more, they charged me an additional $2. It's not just when you pay by credit card that they scam you, they'll do it if you pay by cash too. Or at least they will try. My order of Singapore Noodles was priced at $13 on the menu. I gave the cashier $20 and he gave me $5 change. I asked where the difference was and he said "Taxes!". I know taxes are high in New Orleans, but they are not that high! So I asked for a copy of the receipt. All of a sudden he seemed to have forgotten how to speak English. Eventually, reluctantly, he showed me the receipt. $14.30 with taxes. Through gritted teeth, and with looks that could kill, he gave me my change. Now 70c is not much of a big deal. But if they rip off every customer that comes in, those 70c's will add up. And it sounds like, from reading other reviews, this is a frequent occurrence. So save your money from these rip-off merchants and go somewhere else. The food isn't even good anyway. read more

As soon as I landed in NOLA I was greeted with 32 degree temp. I need something hot and fast, and that's why I picked Golden Wall. With the hard rock hotel collapsed and road blockage, this is by far the only Chinese food I'm able to reach by foot. For sure, the ordering was quick and the food is ready in 5 minutes. Dont know how they do that. The General Tsao chicken plate with shrimp fried rice was spot on. The chicken were crispy fried and then coated with sauce. My lady got the noodle soup with BBQ pork. It's a blessing to have this bowl of soup on this cold night. This shop opens until 10:30 at night, and 11:30 Friday and Saturday, making it a convenient place for late night meal. Most of other Chinese restaurants closes around 8pm. read more

Tso... you're in the big easy, getting pretty tired of that played out Creole fare and craving some Chinese. I get it, rally I do... I was in the same predicament, and Yelp hooked me up with Golden Wall. I gotta give them props for delivering by bicycle at 9:30pm on a Monday... and the egg drop soup hit the spot, but that's where the praises start to evaporate. The sweet and sour pork was a styrofoam tray filled with dry deep fried puffs accompanied by a separate container of red sauce. The breading was much too thick for the meat. Avoidance recommended. The general tso chicken looked good, but the red sauce was pretty bland. Surprisingly, there aren't that many Americanized Chinese restaurants in the CBD/French Quarter. As good as Cajun/Creole food may be, one just has the need to fill their belly with some greasy Chinese stuff every once in a while. That being said, this spot hits the spot. The place is huge - probably to accommodate drunk tourists at night - and they're usually pretty busy, and the staff was pretty friendly as well. For the price tag, the portions are pretty sizable. Even their lunch specials have more than average portion. Another thing I like about this joint is that you have the option to get the shrimp fried rice for your lunch menu - which I've never seen. As for the important stuff - the taste, they're pretty average. Their general tso's chicken, of which I ordered it extra spicy, wasn't spicy at all, but it was on par with mediocre Chinese restaurants across the country. The thing I shocked me about this place is the inconsistency from their menu description from the website. When you look at the menu from Grubhub, the plain fried rice is described as, "Prepared steamed white rice with soy sauce, eggs, peas, carrots and green onions." Look at the picture of the plain fried rice I'd received - what a joke. There was not a whiff of the eggs, peas, carrots or green onions. They really need to work on the menu. Not only that, it tasted just like white rice mixed with soy sauce, and it tasted ridiculously bad. Their pork fried rice, on the other had, was pretty good. Mild, and lots of pork pieces. Also, their baby corn that was in my bean curd went bad - it tasted awful.
