I Love Bahnmigos mainly for their beef short rib sandwiches. They can be some of the best meals WHEN it's made properly. The locations in Brooklyn seem to be very inept with this though particularly this one. The beef was ridiculously inedible for the most part being extremely chewy and cartilaginous. The rest of the sandwich was solid but the saying isn't "potatoes and meat" for a reason . So far, the best Bahnmigos has been for beef short rib has been their Staten Island location. Bahnmigos in downtown Brooklyn is great if you want quick, delicious Vietnamese takeout! I recommend getting the Vietnamese coffee and beef pho. Even though, they were out of short ribs the pieces of beef were still tender. The bean sprouts and Herbs accompanied with the pho were still super fresh. The broth was light and clear. This place definitely is for takeout since there's no seating. You order and pay inside and wait outside until your number is called or one of the staff members comes and finds you. I do not recommend the summer roll. It's just a lot of rice noodles stuffed inside and I'm not a fan of the peanut sauce which was the only deliver of flavor in this dish. read more

Came for a quick sandwich during lunch hours and was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it came out and how fresh it was. Like any good Bahn mi, the bread was lovely and crunchy on the outside soft on the inside. The meat was hot and well seasoned and had the correct amount of funk you want from the Bahn mi, not overpowering but in the background letting you know its there. The fat was cut by wonderfully pickled Daikin and carrots and balanced by the fresh cilantro and cucumber. Why only 4 stars? They have an entire menu I have to try! My favorite spot in Brooklyn Heights for quick and affordable food (in the context of a very expensive neighborhood)! I always get the vegetarian chicken bánh mì and ask for it spicy, and the baguette is always fresh and soft with the right amount of crunch/toastiness. Service is also always extremely fast, I don't think I've ever waited more than ten minutes, and all the employees I've interacted with have been friendly and welcoming. I haven't tried any of their drinks, but I know when one of my friends was visiting she liked their boba so much she went back twice in one day, and she's from Southern California so her standards for boba are high. Brooklyn Heights is not a neighborhood that's known for its food, but this place is a winner and a great small business to support. read more

The way they cut and cook/season the meat is authentic but it seems more tailored to the American palate (less fatty etc) so this is a good option for the slightly less adventurous eater. Are incredible, pork is flavorful and tender with crisp bread, the quality of the fermented veggie in the banhmi are not overwhelmingly sour but refreshing. The summer roll itself is okay, but the sauce made it stand out. I had my speculation about the taco because this is a Vietnamese restaurant. It turned out great. It does feel Vietnamese. I've had issues in NYC of ordering spicy food and them not making it that spicy- this was loaded with fresh jalapeños. The pho was regular pho. I'm used to awesome pho grand in China town and settle for Hanco's. I also love their pork dishes. Grilled pork was super super delicious but a little heavier, and so I think I have a very slight preference for the traditional banh mi............ but both are SUPER good. I was pretty impressed with the amount of food I got when I ordered the vegan rolls and tofu taco- each individual plate had 2 of each and they certainly were filling. I'd say probably forgo the rolls bc it was mainly rice paper filled with rice noodles and like a piece of cucumber which seems a little silly, but the peanut sauce made it worth while. I got the taco spicy, which wasn't really very spicy so I'd say err on the side of getting spicer if you like spice. The service was quick and everything was quite fresh. It's definitely a small space- not really much of a place to sit down (there is a tiny counter for like 4 seats), but I'd recommend for a cheap healthy meal. read more
