We've had the beach bikes on our "bucket list" for a while, so we'd planned in advance to be there…read morewhen it opens to enjoy a longer ride with the bikes. They are open based on the tides - which is clearly important! So that was great to read on their FB page. Each day changes with time - due to the tide, so be aware and plan accordingly. We went on a Thursday, hoping to avoid major crowds - while it was very crowded in the town we arrived at opening time and were able to get in and out very quickly. We arrived at the store, my son went ahead while I parked. There is a public parking directly across from the store which is an amazing find - just be sure you get there early enough to get a spot. I was concerned it would be a long line with the new COVID restrictions and 1 person at a time in the store. However they were very fast and very efficient. They provided simple but precise instruction, clear in their communication on how to use the bikes and explaining everything to look out for on the beach. Ensured my taller son had a bike that fit him - it did and it was perfect. I had a beach bag that I wanted to take but there is no place to put it, they offered a back pack which was a huge help and bonus - talk about customer service support. The back pack saved me as was easy to place on my front so I had provisions for the kiddos. We rented the recumbent beach bikes, you have to carry them to the beach but it's super easy. Just follow their instructions. It will take a few minutes to get a handle on how to move your body with the bike - there is no hand steering, it's all through you body which is a great core workout :-) I think it's a fantastic experience for the young and old. The bikes we had were well oiled in and good functioning order, we had no issues with the bikes although my younger child was tired before we made it to the end of Cannon Beach so it took a while getting back. If you are taking it to enjoy the tide pools it's an easy there and back. My 11 year old got tired a bit earlier than my older son and I. They do have kids carrier attachments which is awesome if kiddos are younger. But I think if you make it an easy ride, an enthusiastic younger child could manage the beach bike a short distance. I'd plan for extra reinforcements like cool drinks and something to sustain a 1 1/2 to 2 hour ride and adventure on the beach. Since it was a good sunny day - sunscreen and hats are best. Prices were completely reasonable and totally worth it - ours was $20 for 90 minutes with some grace period to get to and from the beach. They were excellent all around. I'd highly recommend this and we will absolutely do this again.

they are so kind at the bike peddler shop! i walked in shared my story about getting a used spin…read morebike for free, they noticed I am in a wheelchair from an amputation I only have my left leg I was given both the cage for the left foot and the saddle seat for free what kind and outgoing people that work at this shop I'm super grateful and excited to get peddling on my spin bike thank you

UPDATE 6/29 -- Hours after I posted my initial review, one of the owners (Kalan) reached out to me…read moreby phone. I told him the whole story, and he agreed to buy back my wheels on the basis that they'd sold me the wrong wheels. He told me the shop could build me a custom set of wheels -- a service I didn't know the Peddler offered -- but I'd already ordered another set of sturdier wheels from a Colorado company. When the wheels finally came in, I took them down to the Peddler. Nate swapped out the wheels the same day, taking extra time to re-true both of them. I've been out on two great rides with the new wheels. While the wheels are still settling in, the bike performed wonderfully. Nate also sold me a couple of wider tires for the new wheels, and the tires work just great. Both Kalan and Nate could not have been nicer or more professional in our conversations and dealings. I'm very hopeful that the experience I had with the other employee was just a one-off, and that the Peddler remains a shop that offers great customer service. ======= After two decades as a loyal customer, I'm sad to say the Bike Peddler no longer stands by what it sells. Last June, I purchased a set of Shimano wheels from the shop. In May, after a total 12 rides, both a spoke and the hub nut on the rear wheel broke during a short Salem Bicycle Club ride. I was astonished, and asked if the wheels were warrantied. The clerk said he'd check. They later informed me that the wheel's warranty didn't apply because it was a "wear-and-tear" break -- even though I'd barely ridden on the wheels. I expressed my dismay, and the clerk shrugged. I told him I'd been loyal to the store for years, and he replied that he couldn't tell me where to take my business. I was truly shocked at his rudeness and lack of professionalism. I've shopped there for years, purchasing items I could have gotten much cheaper elsewhere -- shoes, helmets, bib shorts -- because the Peddler always treated me and my wife like family. I've also recommended the Peddler to many friends, because I could count on the shop to provide them great service and support. It breaks my heart to report that the shop now operates on the motto "Buyer Beware," and seems to have little concern for its customers.
