She takes her time and is so careful around sensitive areas, ensuring I'm comfortable throughout. Plus, her sweet demeanor makes every appointment feel less like a chore. As for the dentist, I don't interact with him a ton, but when I do, he's always professional and makes me feel confident in the treatment I'm receiving. I recently got nightguards, and the process was very simple... the only minor hiccup was one of the assistants being a bit rough with the scanning device for the mold. We actually drive out of our way to visit this dentist in Orange, and it's totally worth it!

To be clear, the oral surgeons themselves--Dr. Caroline and Dr. Hoover--were excellent. They were attentive, skilled, and professional throughout my care. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their front office coordination. I recently tried to replace a cracked retainer (top and bottom) that I've worn consistently since my corrective jaw surgery. What should have been a straightforward process turned into a frustrating and confusing situation due to repeated miscommunication. I was initially told to wait until I could provide dental insurance before scheduling, which delayed my visit unnecessarily--only to find out later that the office didn't even request that information when I came in. Then, despite clearly explaining multiple times that I needed a full top and bottom retainer, I was told one was ready for pickup. After driving 40 minutes, I was given another night guard--the same one I already have and did not need. Dr. Hoover personally acknowledged the mistake and confirmed that the correct retainer would be made and mailed to me. I paid what I was told was the full amount for the proper retainer. However, I then received a call from Dawn-Marie stating I owed an additional $155, contradicting everything I had previously been told by both her and the front desk staff. During that call, Dawn-Marie was dismissive, spoke over me, and laughed at me multiple times while I was trying to explain the situation. At one point, she questioned why I didn't go through my orthodontist and laughed when I explained my confusion. This was unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, the lack of communication between the coordinator, staff, and doctors has been extremely frustrating. I'm still waiting for a resolution while concerned about my teeth shifting due to not having the correct retainer. I expected a much higher level of professionalism and coordination from a medical office. Unfortunately, this experience has been anything but that.

The cleaning was $99 but they charge you for x-rays / full exam, even though you only come in for a cleaning. I guess they require it for new patients. It was an ok cleaning I guess with a few mishaps. - The tech did not suction the water (that is flowing behind the cleaning tool), so I upchucked water on myself 2x. They didn't have papertowels nearby to clean up so I had to wait for them to get me some. - When I got home over the next several days, my floss still got stuck in my teeth. So I searched for another place to get a cleaning about 1 month later. - I think the tech is supposed to floss as part of last steps to make sure they got everything out There were some issues raised to suggest I needed to get replacements such as on my crown (that crowns only last 10-15 yrs or something) and costs $950. - I had to go get a 2nd opinion about it. The 2nd doctor said it was not necessary at this time. But the good news is, the visit inspired me to get dental insurance due to the possible need for a crown replacement in the future. So it was a good warning to do preventative care in the future.

I had a Delta Dental HMO plan but since it didn't cover anything, I was prepared to pay out of pocket for this. I was highly recommended to Dr. Owen by a fellow Yelper. I had already called 20 other places and checked on pricing and availability. Dr. Owen spoke to me on the phone and explained the entire procedure. He also gave me an estimate on pricing was also available to do the surgery in the time frame I needed so I decided to go to him. His office is clean and comfortable (not scary at all!) His staff were nicest people I have ever met! I went in for a consultation and they took my panoramic X-rays. All of their equipment was new and current with the technology. He gave me a really fair deal on my wisdom teeth, $1590, including local anesthesia and IV drip. Since my wisdom teeth were full bony impactions, it would be a difficult procedure. However, I was paying out of pocket for this so he was generous to let me pay $1590 instead of $1900. Dr. Owen and his staff carefully went over instructions on pre and post surgery care and gave me my prescription of Vicodin and antibiotics in advance to fill. He also gave me extra gauze for my mouth and gave me the option to keep my teeth! I decided to donate them to dental school instead. I returned for the surgery. He and his staff were very professional and treated me with the utmost care. After a long 3 hour surgery, they were able to take 4 wisdom teeth out of my tiny mouth! I was groggy after surgery and my boyfriend drove me home. The first 3 days, I iced with a bag of peas and then heated. I slept a lot, watched movies, drank a lot of protein shakes, smoothies, and kefir. I did not get a lot of swelling in my cheeks as I had thought. It was probably due to the post opt care instructions that I followed to a tee. It has been 9 days since my procedure and I have healed wonderfully! I returned for a follow-up appointment and Dr. Owen checked to see how everything was healing and gave me an irrigation tool. After 9 days, I can eat soft foods, bread, and my jaw is becoming less sore. I am very happy to have found a highly skilled oral surgeon since I have heard horror stories from my friends! Dr. Owen and his staff are the nicest people I have ever met. I was always terrified of going to the dentist but now I am happy to know that there are nice and gentle dentists out there! I highly recommend going to Dr. Owen and his staff!

Went to OC Smiles on Friday 3/13/26 for a loose implant because my dentist is closed on Fridays…read more Helena was great and the only good thing i will have to say about my experience. I didn't need a diagnosis, since I told the dentist that my implant was loose. He decided to take a ct scan, charge me for it and charge me for his false "diagnosis." $290 later.. he told me I need a New crown and wanted me to pay $2900 to return for 2 more visits to "fix" it. I Declined his outrageous treatment plan, knowing my implant was just loose. I waited until Monday with no problems and went to my dentist Dr. John Vartanian (Newport Beach) who did the implant for me. He tightened the screw and I was out of there in 10 minutes for free. I believe SoCal Smiles owes me $290 back for their unnecessary scan and incorrect diagnosis. They were trying to sell me something I didn't need and I'm quite upset about how this was handled when I brought it to their attention.
