Soooooooooo.... amazing! We are only in Victoria for three days and we came here twice. Twice. We had the noodles the first day and then came back for the Bao. The pork meatball was my fav however the wifey loved the buttermilk chicken. The kids loved the Nutella banana and the Chinese bbq. Service was amazing and the Hoyne IPA beer was perfect! The food was good, price is quite reasonable (especially when you compared it with other "asian fusion" food places in Victoria). Would recommend to friends in town. Read some of these negative reviews. I think there needs to be some clarification and set up fair expectations for this restaurant. Let's be clear, this is NOT an authentic "asian" restaurant. You don't walk in here and expect what you get here is what they serve in any of the East Asian countries. The fact that they have all these food items from various East Asian countries and named the restaurant "buns" in Mandarin should tell you that much, this IS Victoria. read more

I am not an easy 5 star reviewer. I do not submit a large number of reviews. I do find Yelp to be very helpful when I travel so feel compelled to write a review when I find something that is very good (or very bad). I travel a lot (at least in normal times) and look for unique and tasty experiences. This was both and a great experience. The food was excellent. The service was top rate and the COVID protocols were excellent. COVID protocols are quite important to my wife and I, not because we are at risk, but because we do come in contact with people who are. I consider the care shown for these protocols as a sign of respect for one's customers. My wife and I had the 4 Bao for $15. The Taiwanese Classic was excellent as was the Pork Meatball Banh Mi. The Chinese BBQ was good. The Buttermilk Chicken was ok. While they may not seem like a ton of food, the tastes were just excellent and a very good value for me. We also had the Tan Tan Noodles which were fabulous. The spice level was great. The broth was wonderful and the noodles themselves made the dish. We are only here three days and plan to go at least once more (maybe twice) while we are in town. read more

This place had HORRIBLE service! This past weekend we checked out the website and saw that the closed at 9 PM. We got there at 8:32 and the blonde host at the door greeted us with, "Oh, sorry, we're closing." Now, let me paint a picture of what we saw. The chairs in the entire restaurant were upside down on top of the tables. There were SEVERAL customers still eating while staff swept and cleaned around them!!!!! We graciously explained that we had just spent money on a cab to enjoy some of their ramen soup (which I'm sorry, this is NOT a high maintenance request where it's going to take 45 minutes to prepare or for us to eat! She was rude despite that we had paid a cab to get there, the joint stated it closed at 9 PM and she was just like, "whatever!" We are from the states and this was our 3rd time coming to the beautiful Victoria! Canadians are amazing friendly folks and always go out of their way to be great neighbors to Americans that come to visit! Stay away from this place they obviously don't care about customer service! read more

Went for a snack after lots of walking on a cold day, kids with us, baos were on the small side, but delicious. Had the pork belly , mushroom, fried chicken and pork bbq. One kid had ramen with pork belly, he was over the moon. The other had the glass noodles with curry, felt it was a bit to spicy, this kid can handle spice. Small but worth a visit, friendly staff, clean, quick place. I'd go back again and recommend it! read more

I tried Taiwanese classic bao...... maybe the review brought me high expectation but the bao was little bit disappointing.

We had the vegetarian ramen and pork belly ramen. I liked the pork belly and the mushrooms that came with it that had a very nice citrus flavour. The vegetarian ramen was not that great, particularly the friend tofu which was hard and greasy. Noodles not authentic. The real issue was the service - which I would classify as truly terrible. In this restaurant you order at the counter and pay in advance - including tip! There is no sign stating this and the staff not only did not greet us, they let us stand around waiting with no acknowledgement not knowing what to do. In addition, when we went up to the counter to ask the lady with the blond hair walked away from us twice to do random things. Came across as rude. I won't be back. read more

Went to Bao tonight with my wife. Was a funky joint with a great order and pay at the beginning system, which I love. We had 4 bao and they were really tasty. Sweet Chinese pork with pickled cucumber was great, the bao bun itself was fluffy, light and really nice. My wife had the pork belly ramen and I had the chicken karage ramen. It was alright, I must say though, broth needed to be hotter and it needed a hit of flavour. It was tasty, but didn't wow me. Overall bill was more than I felt it was worth but not by too much. I will go again and see what else they have going on. read more

I love the baos, the best in my opinion is the tonkatsu chicken with the pickled ginger on top. So friggin good. The service is pretty quick and there's usually seating available. Definitely becoming one of my favourite places in town. read more

Absolutely loved this place. Even my very picky boyfriend enjoyed their food! We tried the pork belly ramen which was phenomenal. The Korean wings were great as well (those were his favorite), the fried chicken bibimbap was tasty- I made the mistake of eating that last, it got cold and the egg was all stiff, but the flavor was still there! This was my first time trying bao and I loved it, I got the Taiwanese Classic. And for a drink the sake guava was amazing, just not quite strong enough. read more

Amazing. Has to be one of the top 10 meals I have ever eaten. My 15 year old was beyond amazed. We had the 4-piece bao - we mixed them up so we could sample every kind and have the Nutella banana bao too. Such perfect combinations of flavors and textures! We loved every single one. Absolutely thrilled that the old WokBox, which was a reliable stand by on a foggy, cold Victoria evening, has managed to retain all the comfort but now has some truly incredible and interesting food on the menu. So far I have had only a bao ( viet stuffed bread) and the TanTan noodles, but it was as culinary treat that took me by surprise. A very carefully made and thoughtful broth, fantastic noodles. Great service and still the same ambience, but now with better music. Victoria is starving for good places to eat, I can list the truly exceptional places on one hand. This is a fantastic turn of events, and I plan to eat here often. read more

A very fusion Asian-ish restaurant. I had a ramen and wasn't a fan of it - the ginger slices (sushi style ginger) was an odd addition to the ramen and the noodles combined with the broth lacked flavour. The chicken was decent though, but I wouldn't call it chicken karaage. read more

When last here, I had the korean fried chicken bibimbap. The dish was fine, but ultimately marred by the kimchi, which had a very weird aftertaste. Unpleasant. Just nuked your palette whenever I got a bite of it, obliterated all the other flavors. I have had kimchi before and liked it, but this kimchi is just not right. I have had the bao before, and they are nice, fluffy and soft.Get the bao here, and skip any dish with kimchi. read more
