    Entry from JW

Tom of restaurants and bars near the JW in Savannah. Wanted something real convenient and fast since I was staying there. Real neat spot with fast service. The food menu is small with appetizers and small plates. I ordered the West African wings and Lamb meatballs. They both were good. The wings had a nice sweet and sour flavor with good fry on the wings. The lamb meatballs were good as well, it arrived on a bed of guacamole and harissa. They were good, a little heat in the harissa and maybe touch of mint would have been a great add. Great service and place to drop in for a few drinks and finger food.

The ambiance and decor alone are enough to earn five stars at this hidden gem. Add in the handcrafted cocktails, and you've got a great spot for a night out. We had a wonderful time, though the wings weren't our favorite. They were cooked perfectly, but the peanut-forward flavor just wasn't for us. If you're looking for craft cocktails, great vibes, and a unique Savannah experience, put this place at the top of your list!

Drinks were basic, bartenders were friendly and chatty. Go here for the ambiance - the owner apparently likes to import all these real taxidermied animals and birds from Africa so it is a cool sight all around. You will see heads of an african elephant, zebra, wild boars, and even full sized ostriches. One that stood out is the 17-20(?) ft Nile crocodile hanging over the bar! It is also located adjacent to the JW hotel's museum which is a must see if you like paleontology, they have a ton of exhibits with gigantic crystals, geodes and life size fossils.

Baobab Lounge is a true oddity and one of the most interesting cocktail lounges one can imagine. A safari themed, intimate space, full of animal heads, a stuffed ostrich in the center and plenty of horns and tusks. Part of the JW hotel's museum like vibe, this is a truly incredible establishment to enjoy a drink. There is one area where Baobab lounge can improve and it's the most foundational one: The Ice. The cocktails were filled with quick melting, standard machine ice that was just terrible. This lounge is at a level that they should be procuring laser cut ice cubes or at least breaking off large chunks from a block. Other than that, Baobab is one of the coolest experiences for a lounge not just in Savannah, but in the world. It integrates a truly unique theme, stocks a number of African gins and is one of those remarkable designs that is hard to imagine being real.

This is ground inside the JW Marriott on River St, one of their 11 or 12 bars, counting outdoor ones. You can do a bar crawl just there! Our bartender was fabulous. They also have a small food menu, but we had reservations elsewhere. As for ambience, you're in the jungle, baby! If you don't like seeing the heads (and sometimes the whole thing) of wild animals don't go here.

Strolling River Street after a sunset cruise, we were looking for a spot to dine for a late dinner. I am so glad we spotted Baobab. To enter, you must first walk down a short flight of stairs. There I saw the most beautiful tribal African statues. Immediately when I walked in I began snapping photos. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning! Whoever curated the art did a wonderful job. After admiring the atmosphere, my friend and I grabbed seats at the bar. We enjoyed several small plates including chicken skewers, wings, dried beef and a short rib dish. I thoroughly enjoyed the handmade pita that accompanied the skewers, the pickled vegetables that accompanied the dried meat and the wings which had a delicious peanut flavor that reminded me of a few familiar African dishes. This experience was beautiful and the flavors were delicious.

Me and a couple of my girlfriends were in Savannah for a concert at the Enmark Arena and this was our pre-concert food and drink spot! When you first walk in, it's like you are literally stepping into a Museum of African Culture! There were so many cool decor pieces all over the restaurant. The food was delicious but they only have small plate options so don't expect a large portion of food. We got several small plates and shared and had amazing drinks. This was the perfect spot to pregame before an amazing concert. It did get a little loud as the crowd grew but I definitely recommend trying this spot out. It's connected to the hotel so you have to pay attention to where the restaurant entrance is. The lamb meatballs were my fav.

Four stars because I was struggling between three stars and five stars. This is part of the JW Marriott Powerplant entertainment/dining complex. The staff are phenomenal. Very accommodating and attentive. The cocktails and snacks aren't bad. No entrees, only small plates. I had the cheese plate, which was a pretty generous serving: three cheeses, apricot chutney, walnuts, grapes, Quince paste, and pita. It was 24 dollars, a little pricey, but not bad. They also have biltong (a south African dried cured meat). As well as hummus, wings, lamb meatballs, smoked brisket, pudding. There are beers, ales. I enjoyed several of the cocktails: Tamarind Martini (gin, passion fruit, fresh lemon juice, tamarind syrup); the oasis (del maguey mezcal, red bell pepper thyme shrub, agave, lime); Baobab daiquiri (plantation pineapple rum, cruzan banana rum, lime juice, Demerara syrup--a little too sweet for me); and a nice refreshing gin and tonic equivalent (Elephant in the room--gin, tonic, soda, lemongrass, pink peppercorn). The reason I debated rating three stars is because it really leans heavily on African stereotypes. It helped a little that one of the bar workers showed me a book that explained many of the pieces were made by African artists or artists of African heritage. But it's still a pretty hokey restaurant run by capitalists and white folk. So four stars it is.

So glad I came by here walking through the beautiful JW Marriott. This is one of the most unique restaurants I've been to in Savannah. When you walk in, there's this sense of history like you're going back in time. The paintings, statues and decor was so cool and it gives a sense of place and an ode to African culture. It was hard to pick what to eat but I settled on the Saboob which was delicious! The brisket, with the sauce on the crispy pita accompanied with my tamarind martini was spectacular! It took a bit of time for someone to greet me but once we got there everything else was great. I can't wait to go back and try more!

This bar is more like an experience with a very interesting and unique atmosphere! The waiter told us that the owner loves traveling to Africa and basically put his personal collectables on display for all of us to enjoy. There's so many things to look at, it was fun to admire the art and animals while we enjoyed our drinks. The cocktails were tasty & unique. We would definitely recommend trying out this fun spot right off River street.

This was our frist time here and we had an amazing time. The staff here are super friendly. The bar has an amazing feel and super laid back. The drinks here are amazing. The food is also amazing.

We've frequent here a few times and all experiences have been great. During the day if you come through, take time to enjoy all African decor. My family has been a collector or art since before I was born so I can easily relate to many of the things I see dating back to my family's house. Located inside the JW you can entering through from the interior and get a great welcoming of beautiful tall decor. I'm a big fan of how it's setup (the tunnel especially) and the music complemented our vibe (Afrobeats baby). It's nice to see a real African Themed spot in the heart of Savannah and the ambiance is great. It's a great lounge and they have some authentic African dishes that are on great. We ordered a few items and my favorite was the Lamb Kebabs & the Bobotie Pies (similar to empanadas). It's a true lounge so only small plates...

Very cool bar! Somewhat of an unexpected gem that you wouldn't normally be aware of strolling down River St. We stumbled upon it checking out the geodes displayed in the expansive lobby of the JW Marriott. Drinks were a bit on the pricey side, but expected in this type of hotel bar. The Golden Ostrich was a good drink, and made for an overall good experience.

A touch methodical, but they were good, at least the ones my wife enjoyed. Like at every other bar in Savannah, per the ordinances, there is a door person who checks IDs, so make sure you have it. When I walked in, I was gazing around and then all of a sudden, a man appeared asking for ID. They usually have someone watching from the top of the stairs or from the level you enter, but they will check you so keep note if you're not used to bringing your ID with you (not sure why you wouldn't, but I digress).

Beautiful glass, marble, deep colors of navy, mauve, and gold. Service was wonderful, felt welcomed immediately. For my appetizer, I had the crab cake with homemade tartar sauce, which was a light, bright way to start the evening. For my entree, I had the filet mignon. The server will tell you, the menu says tapas, but the servings are larger than that. Meat portions are generous at 6 oz. My only complaint is that I ordered my steak medium and got closer to well done. At least the steak was still moist and not dried out, but I would be hesitant to do the steak again. The spinach risotto I had with it was creamy and cheesy, however, so that was nice. Other options for food include burrata, a charcuterie board, grilled shrimp, sea bass, salmon, scallops. The cocktails are the real star here. They fall under the categories "strong and adventurous," light fare," and "signature." Non-alcoholic cocktails are also available. I started with the medusa 1597, under "strong and adventurous." Made with Old Tom Gin, extra dry vermouth, truffle, grapefruit, and amaro, it was extremely strong. A bold, slow sipper I would have done better to have later in the evening, but I still appreciate the complexity of it. I also had the Bella primavera, a lighter cocktail under the signature section. Made with pisco, blanc vermouth, French herbal liqueur, watermelon, and basil leaf. A smoother, brighter, faster sip than the Medusa. And I also had the blood orange martini, made with French vodka, blood orange, lime, and cranberry. A little sweet, but not cloying, and again, would have been a better starter as opposed to a closer. I think when I return, I will ask the bartender to make me off the menu drinks. This place seems creative enough that the outcome would be fantastic. I loved this place. The vibe, the view, the service, the offerings. Can't wait to see what more they have in store.
