The food is really good and the boba is delicious but the wait time at this location is painful. The last time I ordered from here it was for pickup. I arrived on time and still had to wait 35 minutes to finally receive my order. When I got home I found they gave me someone else's order. I decided to give them another chance and ordered in store today. I had to wait an hour for my order while people who ordered after me received theirs. After asking a twice about my order status it became evident they kept losing track of it and kept fulling new orders coming in. Upon arrival the fries were still hot and crispy (but missing the aioli) and the boba drink was just right (got it with no ice so it didn't dilute the coffee flavor en route to my casa). I love the kick that the fries have...there's no heat/numbing, instead they're flavorful with a just hint of Szechuan spice. Finally paid my first visit to Bao'd up and I'm just going to say it's definitely the first of its kind here in South Austin. It ain't mind-blowing, but it adds good variety to the area here. I'm Taiwanese, so I grew up eating gua bao and bao zhi, which are those white "fluffy cloud tacos" and white doughy pockets of love that y'all are stuffing into your mouths. They're so good, right? It was crazy for me to see them in an elevated setting that was so modern. You order from these tablets at the entrance. The menu is very easy to order from and super clear, so that's a plus already. Pro Tip: When you're ordering at the tablet, be sure to create an account to get your deals and birthday discount. I got a curry bowl (vege) and guabao fish. I wasn't feeling the baos because let's be honest...you can just steam those in a pack from Ranch 99 or any asian market, and it's way cheaper--and tastes the same. The curry bowl was large, even for dinnertime. I had to take some home for the next day. However, the curry itself was lacking flavor. It had some spice, but for some reason I just felt like I could've made it with Golden curry, which is the go-to brand for everyone and their Asian moms. I did like the portion sizes and the variety of veggies, so big up on that!! The guabao was the true winner, let's be honest. The fish was so tasty. It's overpriced for sure, but you can't really make guabao at home unless you're...my mom haha. Just kidding, but it's just yummier in house. The entire item was delicious and flavorful. I grabbed Togo here and I got the pork belly bao and the dan dan noodles with fried chicken. The dan dan noodles didn't have enough sauce and stuck together. The chicken was soggy. Overall overwhelming dish. But the bao was out of this world! I'll stick to bao and keep going. Edit: went again and got the veggie boa, pulled pork bao, chicken bao, and the pork belly. This Austin based startup "fast-casual" eatery has an interesting twist that is very uncommon, a menu centered around a not-so-well-known chinese comfort food: Bao (or baozi). This chinese dish is made from a soft, almost spongy, dough bun filled with various sweet or savory fillings. At Bao'd up, the ownership has incorporated Texas friendly flavors and mixed in other asian favorites to create a smallish but varied menu that should satisfy most tastes. As a Bao'd Up neophyte I started by getting a combo plate that included fried chicken, buns, fries, and various sauces. It looked and tasted terrific. Here is the special part, and the main reason for 5 stars today, the person who brought our food was nice enough to give some extra instruction about what was on our plate. After discovering that the order did not include the aforementioned Bao, Eryn offered to give us one to taste...gratis. I reserve 5 star reviews for situations where a business is somehow extraordinary. This is one of those times. A focused selection of Chinese staples, approachable for the masses and with noticeable traditional authenticity... with some exceptions, for better or worse. What an unexpected place this is, one that has all the traits of an inviting modern fast casual environment -- the mainstay of its namesake, traditional 'baos', but also a succinct selection of noodle entrees (including the Taiwanese bellwether, "Beef Noodle Soup").  Most of which has notes of surprisingly authenticity that have had me returning for more. Some creative spins to add some terrific personality and familiarity to the menu that resonate well -- like the crinkle cut Szechuan seasoned fries, and the combo meals (a sort of deconstructed pan-seared 'gua bao' sandwich kit).  Really terrific. Misses are the boba drinks, which are extremely high in novelty factor, super sugary, and focused on aesthetic -- but otherwise regrettably executed, probably great for kids, wouldn't even know where to begin with feedback otherwise. Finally, a tip for carry out and delivery during the pandemic.  A convenient option, but would recommend most every food item except for the noodle dishes with a dry base, that will inevitably be one giant inseperable clump molded into the shape of the container it comes in -- and leaves a lot to be desired in terms of experience. My meal came with one teriyaki bao which was so good fluffy and soft and tasty and one crispy chicken Guabao ( which reminds me of like a taco) lol also so delicious! Their fries are nicely season and the spicy Mayo they give you ok now I'm craving just as I'm telling you guys about it! Place is cute and clean there is outside seating as well, one thing though they don't take cash so just be prepared in case you were planning to pay with cash. I'll definitely be back for more! Bao'd Up is a cute and modern place to get some yummy food. I was excited to try this place, especially since it's so close to work. I went with my coworkers during our monthly lunch. When you walk in, you have a choice of ordering on the iPad or going to the counter and ordering from a human. You are then given a receipt and you wait for your name to be shown on the screen that your food is ready. After that, you go to the food locker, scan you receipt, and the door pops open! It's really cool! I got the sampler combo. It had the brisket baozi, the pork belly guabao, and the chicken katsu. My food was absolutely delicious. The only reason why they are 4 stars and not 5 is because there was a hair on my baozi. I did show it to the employee and she replaces my entire order, not just the baozi, which I appreciated.
