New York Steak & Chicken Combo
    Beverly S.

I always know if the food is good if I don't stop eating the moment I feel full. This was bomb because I was stuffed and still trying to finish. I would def go back and recommend, I was iffy in the beginning because of the mixed reviews but I'm glad I gave it a try! Service was great, not sure what the guys name was but he was really sweet and helpful and conversational throughout the whole ordering process.

This food truck is worth the hefty price tag, as the food portions are big and the taste is amazing. We got the New York steak w fried rice and filet mignon w shrimp fried rice. The veggies in the combo have a nice grilled, smoky flavor. Service was great and speedy.

Good. But fried rice was inedible, sooooo SALTY! I got the Chicken and Shrimp Combo and paid an extra 2.25 for fried rice. Big mistake. The fried rice was so incredibly salty (and a bit greasy) it all went in the trash :( such a waste. They give you LOTS of rice. I got 5 good sized shrimp and a good amount of chicken. Both were good. The veggies were sparse but pretty good. Wish they gave more. And definitely wish I'd got the steamed rice.

Quick and delicious. The service was great. I got the filet mignon with fried rice and veggies. It's a huge portion enough for two and not over priced . I will definitely be returning .

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.

Chicken karaage was what you would expect, similar to what you get at Japanese places. Portions are big. The sesame rice noodles were highly reviewed but kinda underwhelming. Sauce was surprisingly spicy and the sesame flavor wasn't super obvious. We also tried the rendang beans and rice, which was a creative spin. And surprisingly, the main entree entree chicken wasn't dry and pretty flavorful. The steak was also cooked well - wish there was more flavor but the condiments complimented it very well. We also had the BBQ eel which was delicious (a bit pricey for 3-4 small pieces for $18, but it is cooked SO well). We had the charred edamame which does have beef in it (take note vegetarians -- there aren't a lot of veggie only dishes on the menu), and the taiyaki cornbread (excellent flavor and texture). We did get the hippie bone marrow (it's eggplant!) and the Kinoko mushroom for our vegetarian friend and she really liked both it even though she's not big into mushrooms (the kinoko has a strong umami flavor, it's quite meat-like actually). We got the hot pocketz too which are brisket based; they were very cheesy (smoked gouda) -- good flavor but the brisket isn't strong. My coworkers also tried one of their specials which is essentially a Japanese "famed dish" -- it's squid marinated in it's own guts. I tried the tiniest piece and it was one of the most abhorrent things I've had -- it was SO salty and kind of sour. I like fried squid but this was nothing like that; def would not recommend but if you like to try weird things, go for it. We also got several drinks -- the Match painkiller and Puff puff pass (serves 2 people) are both absolutely delightful! Very fruity/tiki-like. Someone else got the grapefruit sour which is basically Shochu in a glass that comes with a fresh half of grapefruit and a juicer you can prep yourself! Overall -- I like Kemuri a lot. The food is a little high for the portion sizes, but it's a solid place to go with friends/coworkers and share things so you can try a lot. Because things come out like it courses, you can easily get full without overeating. And the drinks are great! It's a more casual place inside, but you could still have a nice/fun date night here.

We placed our order at the counter, and somehow the staff magically delivers everything to the correct table...without numbers, flags, or those little buzzing gadgets. I'm still trying to figure out their secret. We especially enjoyed the open seating, modern décor, and communal dining concept. The indoor-outdoor layout is especially appealing during Austin's cooler months. For dinner, we ordered the wings, Brussels sprouts, and salmon bowls. My friend happily claimed most of the wings, as they were a little crispier than I prefer. The Brussels sprouts, however, were excellent...crispy, crunchy, and finished with just the right touch of sweetness. The true highlight were the salmon bowls. The salmon was perfectly charred and packed with flavor, while the coconut rice added a rich, slightly sweet complement that tied the dish together seamlessly.
