Unfortunately, this spot wasn't for us. I'm usually pretty easygoing when it comes to pho, but the broth here missed the mark. It was very dark and tasted heavily salted, without the traditional pho aroma and depth that I usually look for. I ended up not being able to finish my bowl. My husband ordered the duck noodle soup, and while the broth was a bit better, the duck itself was tough and had a slight funk to it. Between the two dishes, neither of us finished our meals. First off carrots in egg drop soup should be a criminal offense. All I could taste were the carrots, had to trash it. The egg foo young had some weird ass watery sweet gravy that really pissed me off as well. They don't include any condiments or utensils (thank goodness I was home and had some amino acid) definitely won't be back here unless I prepare the gravy myself and just don't feel like making the egg foo young. I was blown away by this dish!! I'm not sure if it's a traditional item or region specific in vietnam but I've never had it before. It was basically like a chicken stew. If you know what Singaporean laksa is, this dish really reminded me of it. The soup was rich, flavorful, sweet, but specifically savory. It was be great paired with some French baguette as well. I didn't particularly like the soft chicken in it but that's a personal preference. There were no bone or tendon/ligament pieces although it was very obviously cooked with chicken thighs. The service was impeccable. They are polite and prompt. Clean without the scent and ambiance it straight to the point! Would recommend for a casual meal or date night? Or even a work day lunch break. It's rare that I find something. I don't like here. My favorite thing on the menu is the pork vermicelli bowl. Delicious fish sauce. Also, their spring rolls come with a little crunchy wonton in it, which is a nice little touch. And if you're looking for something to be made quickly, they tend to be very fast. While the reviews on Yelp don't do the pho justice, the rice dishes are what won me over. Don't skip adding an egg on the Grilled Pork with rice, it's the perfect finishing touch. I also had the Me Con Fried Rice, which comes with Chinese sausage & Char Siu pork. The flavors were spot-on, though I wish the pieces of sausage and pork were larger. We tried this restaurant first the first time last week. We finally had some fall-like weather and wanted pho! The potstickers were 5 stars! SO good!! Some of the best I've had. So fresh and flavorful. I can't wait to get them again. The pho was 4 stars. Your typical pho but as soon as the warm broth hits the noodles and protein it gets cold fast. The flavors are all there. The service was great. The waiter was very nice and super helpful. I always ask what the specialty is of the house and he responded with "most people enjoy the...." So we ordered a vermicelli bowl, crab Rangoon and a General's Chicken so we could have a little variety sample on the table. The crab Rangoon had a nice crisp and a delicious flavor. The General's chicken was mine. A solid and tasty option. Nothing really special or spicy about it so I added the chili... but it was... fine. The vermicelli bowl was pretty tasty. The chili/fish oil was delicious. The noodles seemed a little thick, but the consistency and flavor was there. To each their own. Nice and clean atmosphere and really pleasant folks working there. This was different from where we normally order pho, and now I think we'll order from Me Con Bistro (via UberEats). The order was hot when received which is always risky when you order via a third party. The spring rolls were great, too. Also something that was a huge plus for me -- each pho that I ordered came with its own separate bag of add-on's (jalapeño slices, lime, hoisin, sriracha and bean sprouts). At other pho places, they just throw all the add-ons in one bag, making it so everyone has to split what is in one bag for several bowls (and it is never enough for everyone). First thing I noticed at this place was that it looked different than most Pho places I've been to. They really put a lot of effort into the aesthetics of this place! the bathroom was so clean, I swear the sink and toilet were almost a glowing white. The tables also look really cool! The Phở was pretty good as well, portion was perfect and well thought out, i did not feel it was too much not too little. The quality of the meat was great and the temperature of the broth was spot on. I felt that the noodles were not over cooked like I noticed in some places. The chả giò was delicious!, the sauce it came with didn't seem to be the usual sauce, and I always like to try new things - I believe it was sweet and spicy if my memory serves me right. A lot of attention to detail at this place - sadly because of the name it does not always show up in "pho" searches on map apps - so definitely put it on your Pho restaurant bucket list to try out when you are in the area! mẹ con means mother and daughter and as you might expect it's run by a mother and a daughter - I haven't met them but the waitress mentioned them - which I think is a great name - there are so many pho this and pho that for names so definitely gets some points for creativity! read more

This is one of my family's favorite go-to restaurants in South Austin! It is casual, the food is delicious and quick (I get the bun with a pot of green tea, my kids get the pho, dumplings and egg drop soup), and service is friendly and hospitable. This may seem silly, but I also love their really beautiful fish tank. My kids enjoy finding all the diverse creatures every time. This place always makes me feel at home and relaxed.
