I always loved bao buns/ steam buns. I seen a deal on doordash so I had to order them. They were okay, I ordered a variety of them. I don't know if would go back and order them again. I wish they would have put variety of sauces, so I can see what sauce taste good with which bao bun. Maybe next, I may swing by and check them out while dining in. It might be different. Bao'd Up offers a selection of savory and sweet treats at a great price. I was so happy to visit this place for the first time as it was well worth the drive. In spite of the constant line of people, I didn't feel the wait time was too long. I ordered the pork belly tacos, pork buns, egg cream buns, milk tea, bao fries, and schezwan fries. The buns were fluffy, flavors, and served piping hot. 10/10 The Asian tacos were complex, with a dark sauce (maybe hoisin) to drizzle on top of it. The pickled veggies were fresh and crunchy. The meat was also fork tender and cooked perfectly. The egg cream buns were my favorite...omg. The buns come in a pretty pink color. The filling reminds me of a thick custard. The bao fries were soooo unique. It was almost like a fried sweet bread cut into fries, drizzled in a sweet syrup and boba pearls. These were so delightful. I've never had a snack like this before. The schezwan fries were also served piping hot and have a slight kick to them. I'm not sure what spice blend was used but there may have been some Chinese five spice in there. Lastly, the milk tea. I got the classic assam black milk tea lightly sweetened. It was made perfectly. I could actually taste the tea and has a good balance between the sweetness and flavor of the tea. Nice place to get food from if you're looking for something casual and on the cheaper side. I got the combo and chose Szechuan fries as a side along with the wasabi shrimp gua bao and the juicy pork bao. The pork bao was indeed juicy and had pretty good flavor. I had expected the wasabi shrimp to be actual pieces of shrimp but it was more like the type of shrimp you get from dim sum where it's like a shrimp ball. It was pretty dense which I wasn't too big of a fan of. But the wasabi flavor really came through without being all that spicy. The fries were really good too. Not as crispy as I would have liked, but the Szechuan flavor was prominent which I appreciated. The sesame salad was not what I was expecting at all. The salad itself was your typical salad mix you can get from the store with lettuce and carrots. And the croutons were fried bao pieces. And it was really just the sesame dressing that made it a sesame salad. But I'm still grateful they had some type of vegetable option on the menu. The fried bao sticks were decent. But you really can't eat much without feeling sick because of how greasy it is. Of course it's fried, but it really soaks up a lot of oil. The condensed milk and boba was delicious though. I really like how they have milk latte options that don't have tea and therefore don't have caffeine. So I could still try a drink despite having it in the evening. The restaurant is nice and aesthetic. Plenty of parking in the lot. It's on a strip with several other restaurants and stores. So nice place to go after a day of shopping! I appreciated they have lots of different combo options if you want to try multiple things. They also have a family pack which looked great. Service was pretty quick, I was able to go inside to order. They have an online option and I'm-store they have tablets for ordering. It took about 15 minutes for my order to be finished. I got the veggie combo that comes with Spicy Tofu guabao, Kung Pao Veggie bao, served with a side of Szechuan Fries. I also ordered the shrimp fried rice. Unfortunately the food was a bit underwhelming to me. Everything seemed to be lacking flavor. I got the bao'd up sauce which does help to add a bit of flavor to the food. I was also surprised that even the Szechuan fries didn't have much flavor or spice to them. The rice was kind of mushy and didn't have much flavor either. 1/3/24 I forgot to post this the other day but still wanted to update my review. It's been awhile since I've been here but I told my friend about it so we met here for lunch. The interior is still the same. It's clean and bright. They even had a cute Xmas tree in the entry way. The biggest difference was the menu and the ordering process. The menu on the board is different than last time. You can reference the past pics if you are really interested. You order from a little kiosk which was easy to do. Don't get tricked, like I was, when you see the limited menu on the board. There are many other options once you start ordering. I got two buns and a side. I got the fries. I should have gotten the salad as a side. I'm trying to make better food choices in '24. That being said, I only ate a few of them! I was good. I got the fried tofu bun (chicken is also an option) and bbq bun. You order from the kiosk but they bring it to your table. That's nice! My friend ordered a lo mein dish. She devoured it! My family wanted to go to Doc's Backyard next door, but I was more interested in the Bao store. The seating area only has a few tables, but the to go ordering is very easy with a tablet. I got the 6 bao special (2 juicy pork, 2 chicken, 2 brisket), 2 pork buns with a milk tea and the pork noodles. My favorite was the spicy brisket baos. I thought the other two could have used some vegetables inside to make it more traditional rather than only meat. Both buns were tasty and the milk teas was average. The noodles were great and very soft and had lots of meat. It was a very affordable meal and the cashier's keep your drink in their fridge until you're ready to pick it up. I have LOVEEEED this place since I first tried it in 2019. It's quite honestly my favorite restaurant of all time. This time I ordered for pickup, the crispy chicken pair along with drinks and a few other menu items. As you can see in the picture the "tacos" came disassembled with half as much coleslaw than normal and only one piece of chicken each (used to have two). The sauce is also pre packaged which was pretty disappointing to find out it wasn't made fresh. As for the jasmine green tea it tastes like perfume, it was pretty disgusting. I've had jasmine tea before and it's never tasted anything like that. Additionally the expected pick up time was 7:46 and the food was not ready until 8. For paying $43.99 I expected to have the same quality of food I've always enjoyed in the past. I am extremely frustrated that for a place that has been so consistent for years the quality has suddenly gone down tremendously. I stopped in for a drink the other day and was really disappointed to see they don't have any allergen/ingredient information their menu online or in-store menu. Was hoping to try the food, but ultimately ended up just ordering a matcha latte with almond milk, less sugar, no ice, and add coconut jelly. The coconut jelly was good, but the matcha wasn't well blended so the drink was a bit gritty. I make matcha at home, so I ended up adding a bit more milk and smoothing the consistency when I got home. Once that was done, it was really delicious! I'd definitely try this place again, but I do wish they had other milks available such as coconut and soy - the coconut milk would have made this perfect with the coconut jelly! Perks are that you can do regular milk or almond milk at no up-charge, but I usually avoid almond milk because of how detrimental almond farming can be (not super sustainable with how much water it requires!), but I can't drink regular milk so almond it was. The jellies and boba are more expensive, but quite reasonable in price. Ordering is through a tablet at the front, and the employees call out your name once the order is ready. There is plenty of free parking as this restaurant is located in a shopping center, and there was also a good amount of space inside and outside for seating. Ambiance didn't feel too welcoming in my opinion--I usually prefer ordering with people rather than on a device as it's just a bit more personable. Additionally, the tables didn't seem cozy and I think the decor was a bit too modern/eclectic for my personal taste, but it is spacious so if you want to stick around to eat/drink, you absolutely could. Employees were friendly but seemed a bit rushed (they were really working hard!) , and it wasn't too crowded inside so I imagine they had a lot of online orders coming in! Yes, I'm one of "super tasters" that cilantro has gives out a soap taste when eaten. Also with my order, I added French fries, and a mango-flavored green tea. Like I said, I give this review four and a half stars because there was no option besides green tea. Also, the fries were the crinkle kind which I enjoy better than the regular straight ones. Yes, I know fries are fries, but something about it being "crinkly" makes it more enjoyable. Oh, the drink can also be customized by making it more or less sweet. Oh, I forgot about the pork belly tacos -- hella good. Service was prompt. After you order, staff brings your food and drink to you. Although, it can be optional depending how busy they were, which on this day it wasn't. Counter staff-on-duty was very friendly and patient. Ambiance was quiet. The bun of the "Chinese-style fluffy taco" Fried Tofu guaobao was dry, but the tofu was flavorful but I wasn't a fan of the sauce. The Szechuan fries were very salty but had a unique flavor. Some of the best Asian fusion I've had while in Austin. My partner and I shared the 4 Bao plate and the Spicy Dan Dan noodles. For the bao, we had the Teriyaki Chicken, Original pork, pork belly, and spicy brisket. The pork belly was the best out of the 4, but all were tasty. As for the Spicy Dan Dan, the sauce is very similar to hot pot broth - we got regular spicy and that was flavorful but not overpowering with heat. I liked that the noodles came with spinach and added fried tofu and a marinated egg to the dish. The fried tofu was alright - it was fried almost like fried chicken and was a bit dry alone, but decent with sauce. The egg was a little bit of a disappointment. At first, it was forgotten with our dish and we didn't notice till we had wolfed down all the noodles, but they still gave it to us after we asked. However, it was cold and all the way hard boiled, unlike a ramen egg, which is soft boiled. Overall, pretty great place! I decided to order some Bao from another nearby place. It was the GF's first time trying that type of food. Few weekends ago I was to bring lunch to her at work. She actually asked for Bao!! Seems my taste are rubbing off on her. Since we've been together she will eat cooked oysters, escargot, jalapenos (pickled), and a few other food items she never knew she liked. Sitting on the ranch I grabbed my cell phone and ordered from Bao'd Up. Ordering online was simple; have to complain that the grilled fish bao is absent form the current menu. Was my personal fave along with the pork belly on my previous visit. This trip I ordered two pork belly, two BBQ, soup dumplings, and noodles. Noodles were kinda boring; vegetables weren't plentiful. All Bao offerings were delicious; soup dumplings went the other direction with lack of actual soup inside. A mix of excellent and meh. Back in 2021, my mom and I stopped by excited to try Bao'd up. After we ordered out boba we noticed that workers were visibly eating and drinking and using their phones right where food was being prepped and then serving food without washing their hands, or using gloves and masks. I have since given Bao'd up a few chances since they've undergone new management. Last night I ate there with a few friends and was hit with food poisoning a few hours later. It's obvious employees and management are not following food safety protocols, and that's a bit concerning to me. The food is good, but not worth it to risk having food poisoning. read more

I wanted to try a new boba place and was told about this one. I had the intention to get JUST boba but saw the menu and decided today was the day to try something new. I got the Veggie Combo which came with one veggie bao, fried tofu guabao with a side of fries with spicy mayo. I want to be very honest I had a feeling I would dislike the bao and I was surprised because I actually LOVED it. I am not a vegetarian but I am in fact a very picky meat eater so I tend to get more veggie meals. I am also a picky veggie eater as well and was pleasantly happy that there were no mushrooms in due to noticing that mushrooms are in a lot of items. My daughter got a boba and she was able to order on the little kiosk on the side which is separate from the food line, or you can just order after placing your food order. We just tried Bao'd Up on a whim and it was great! We ordered to-go to get something on our way home and my wife had a build your own combo with a Spicy Brisket (the best one we tried), chicken teriyaki, and egg rolls and I had the pork combo. The szechuan fries were really good, especially dipped in the spicy mayo! The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and happy to hand our order over and the place seemed decently busy with smiles all around on other customers. We ordered this for takeout and that process went very smoothly. I really liked their baos, any of them probably but the brisket ones are especially good! The Dan Dan noodles were also very good, and had a lot of flavor to them (moreso than I've had at some other places). I'd go back for the bao and these noodles. The rice bowl wasn't my favorite, maybe I'd get their normal one but not the "ultimate" version in the future. We also got boba from here since there aren't any others in the area. I got taro... I really love baos. They're one of my favorite things to eat. A good tofu bao always puts me in a good mood. But one of my favorite bao places closed and I've been lost since. Until I stumbled upon Bao'd Up. And I am obsessed. I ordered the two baos and one side meal. Along with a strawberry milk tea. Can I just say the fact you can customize the milk tea to have nondairy milk without being charged extra is SUCH a nice touch. I really love it and it is so good. I was a little nervous about coming here because online there isn't a tofu bao but luckily when you go inside to order there is. The food here is really good. I can't complain at all. I ordered tonight because of the buy one get one promotion on Uber eats. I've never wanted to return an order so bad. From the first bite of the juicy pork I was turned off. The sauce covering the bun was nearly inedible. I can't describe bland and distasteful any better. I had to tear the bun open. The sausage wasn't juicy but over cooked. I moved over to the custard buns which I remember liking quite a bit. Until, I had these. The texture was like scrambled eggs not custard cream. I did also order the soup dumplings. They weren't terrible tasting there just wasn't any soup in them so i drowned them in the soy sauce mixture. I'm generally not prompted to write a bad review because they effect businesses.
