This review is based my togo's from Baos Hog, during the last 2 visits. I haven't sat inside the restaurant in order to describe the atmosphere and service. Watermelon Chiller, a little odd that I would start my review with this. Yes, there's nothing special about it but it compliments Baos Hog's food. I would come back just for this, no doubt. It's refreshing for these hot summer days! Hainan Chicken Rice ( dark meat ) The SAUCE is the star in a Hainanese chicken rice dish. Sadly, the sauce from BH's really not what I expected. No soup? You would start to question the name of this dish. I honestly think with so many fusion and modern cuisines opening up it's difficult to compete with other restaurants. Especially, when you're in the heart of Little Saigon. Now let's get back to my review. Now you must be wondering where did that savory broth go? BH's rice is cooked in the chicken broth. I personally think it would be better if soup was offered as an option. ( for little kids..) The chicken was moist and it was not ''gamey'' like other places that I've tried. If you're ordering this dish PLEASE be very careful picking out the tiny chicken bones that was shattered during the chopping process. Imagined an elderly or child not paying attention and accidentally... I wouldn't wish upon anyone! Duck Bao, I find this to be sweet. Literally, the sauce was too sweet and didn't go well with the duck. They have several other baos on the menu so definitely try it and find your favorite one! Rib eye & Egg... I was looking forward to this one today! After trying this, I am quite disappointed and jaw-broken. The beef was so hard to chew and I love my red meat! So for me to complain about it is very rare. The seasoning was different I couldn't really decide. It was between a shaken beef & garlicky taste. Also, I had to battle my way through the whole dish. I'm just going out on a limb and say I got a bad part. But If I was to order this for my Grandmother or any sweet elderly people, it would be very difficult for them to enjoy. And there was too my spring onion in this dish. I felt like a child picking out my peas ''onions that was not uniformly cut'' Luckily, this will define my jawline.. I am not a huge fan of buns, so I ordered the chicken over rice, while my two friends had wings and some buns. The food tasted great. While there, I ate quickly and was pleased with the serving size, sauce, and even the meat which tasted sweet and not too dry. My complaint is a personal one though. I am really sensitive to MSG and within a short time after leaving this restaurant felt the effects of ingesting it. So while I enjoyed the meal I had at Baos Hog, I likely won't return only because of that. If you are not sensitive to MSG, then by all means, I think the food tasted great and is worth trying out. read more

My new favorite spot in Little Saigon is Baos Hog. Small menu printed on a large chalk board greets you when walk in. Order at the counter, take a seat, and wait for them to call your name. It's a pretty small place located in a very busy plaza that also houses Boiling Crab, Beard Papa, Yogurtland, and Starbucks. For some reason, we've always been able to find a table. A lot of people order to go. My usual order is 2 Bolsa Baos (crispy pork) and a lychee ice tea. Husband likes his pork over rice and we get a side of the hainan rice for the kid. Recently we tried the pop chick(en) which was also really good. Bill for 3 people is well under $25. Amazing! read more

Mmm where to begin! I finally had the chance to try this place and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Yes, it's a bit pricey for just meat in a bao, but the meat options are unique and they are actually a lot bigger/more filling than the pictures made it out to be! Plus, there are other items you can order besides baos. We ordered the roast pork rice, roast duck rice, cow bao, and hot chick bao. To my surprise, the duck and pork were pretty appetizing! Not quite on par with the BBQ restaurants back in the SGV, but it comes sort of close. It tasted just like Lien Hoa next door, so maybe they have a partnernship of some sort. I had a hard time deciding whether I liked the cow bao more, or the hot chick. While the ribeye from the cow bao was tender and not overwhelmed with marinade, I am a sucker for fried chicken. The chicken was a good balance between crispy and soft.. and a bit tangy from the sriracha and vinaigrette. Our dinner was just so flavorful and satisfying! It does a decent job labeling itself as asian fusion. Easy, quick and filling meal with friendly service! Another solid establishment that I would definitely come back to. This was a great find! We tried the crispy pork belly, beef, chasiu, and fried chicken. They were all amazing! Everybody's favorite was the chasiu, followed closely by the chicken. The baos are pretty filling, I'd say two will be enough for moderate eaters. All of the buns are insanely flavorful, and the textures are so pleasing. The meats are cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the toppings complemented them well. The only downsides are that you risk your life every time you drive through this crowded plaza, the prices are fair but it can add up pretty quickly, and I would've loved to see more side choices (but I'm big on sides, so this could just be me). Definitely would recommend this place if you're a fan of "Peking duck" this place offers a variety of meat serve with a steam bun. We order (from left to right) 2 Duck Bao and the last one is Bolsa (roast pork belly) The duck is amazing, meat was very soft and it comes with a soy sauce base sauce that is light. I was pretty excited to try this place after seeing all the initial hype about it from Instagram. When I first noticed the store was next to a lien hoa, which is a Chinese Togo BBQ place, I was a bit worried. At that point I knew the gig was up, baos hog is basically just lien hoa repackaging their BBQ items into buns in order to infiltrate the younger and more hip demographic. I felt like I was paying premium dollar for something that I could have just done myself. Each bun was about five dollars and included a moderately sized piece of meat, vegetables and condiments. I ordered the duck and the boss buns. I wasnt that impressed bc in my mind I knew it would have been cheaper if I had just bought steamed buns and a box of their BBQ items Togo. One thing that did stick out to me was their five spice sauce used on the pork belly. It's a bit different from other Chinese BBQ places that I've had like Sam woo. Came here at night for a snack with my fiance. It was quite empty when we walked in. The menu is written in chalk on the wall. We ordered Cha sui bao, crispy pork belly bao, braised belly, and fried dumplings. Nothing special. The food came out cold so the fat from pork belly thickened up...from the look of it, I didn't even want to touch it. I would rather spend $3 something on banh mi than this bao thing. This place is amazing. This review will be based completely around their main attraction: the Bao's. My boyfriend and I went and we ordered one of every bao and proceeded to regret nothing. The duck is somehow different from a normal Peking Duck Bao. The cucumber creates an incredible contrast and the duck sauce is on point. The boss and the bolsa are quite similar as they are both pork belly. The cucumber in both is nice again. The bolsa is incredibly crunchy and the flavors together are incredible. If I'm going to be honest though, the two pork belly buns are almost lost compared to how incredible some of the other bao's are. The Cha Siu, I am sad to say, was slightly dry in my opinion. It might have been because I had mouthfuls of delicious saucy bao's that was difficult to compare. Nevertheless, it wasn't at all bad, just not as mind blowing as the other ones. The Cow bao was truly life changing. When you read it on the menu, you think to yourself, "how could this possibly be interesting?" but somehow, the marinate hits you just right. Trust me. Get this bao. The fish bao was also quite good. Think deconstructed fish taco in a bao with a different sauce other than tartar. I thought it was a very good substitute and vegetarian option, but in my mind, I just prefer my bao's with red meat. However, the ultimate bao to rule them all has to be the Hot Chick. I wasn't even going to order this one before we decided and ordered all of them. Somehow, the chicken and the sauces blend together in an incredible mind-blowing extravaganza. So my boyfriend and I are both regulars at this place and we normally call in to make an order to get it togo. One time, I tried to call over 5 times to get an order for my dad and they did not pick up the phone. I've worked at restaurants before and we MAYBE ignore a call once if it's busy, but not five times. Tell the customer you need a second on the phone or the customer in front of you for ONE MINUTE and they will give you a minute. People aren't always assholes, ya know. Now for my second complaint.. twice my boyfriend made a phone call and the people who picked up the phone did not understand a word he was saying and he was saying it very clearly and very slowly. Once from a guy, and another from a girl both of which can't speak English very well. The only girl that EVER gets our order right and correctly is the girl that we think is related to the owners. She's the BEST cashier we've had from this place, and never a complaint from us. Today, my boyfriend tried to make another phone order and they couldn't understand him and asked him to come in instead. After coming in and ordering our food, the worker gave away popcorn chicken to another person and forgot ours... The plates and appetizers are very good, and they always give a great amount. I love the popcorn chicken and the orange sauce they have! I have no complaints about the food. But the service is definitely lacking when it gets busy. read more

Their location sucks due to parking issues, but this place was interesting just to try. I have been here a couple of times and I think my favorite bao here will be the bbq bao. Their duck is good as well, but a couple tries later, the taste gets really sickening (probably will not purchase again). I have tried their hainan chicken as well, and was disappointed. The chicken was okay, but they gave me nasty mushy rice---the kind when someone puts too much water in the pot. Sadly, I think my one favorite item that has no disappointed me was their sweet lemon ice tea ---it is really refreshing, but they do add a ton of ice, which sucks. I am hooked! Baos are big and so tasty here. Cow is by far my favorite so far with sweet BBQ beef. Bolsa (pork belly) was just pretty good to me, with the ingredients and flavor of a typical banh mi. Only the pork doesn't have a lot of flavor, and it is hard to eat being such a thick cut. Plus the extra crispy skin is hard to bite through, so the whole thing wants to fall apart while I shark thrash a bite out of it. I also had the extra crispy fried chicken, but sadly they'd run out of dark meat. I'm not into the extra crispy skin, I'm used to more seasoning. But the juicy, tender meat within was very good dipped in their super tasty ginger fish sauce. Service was extra friendly, helpful, and they went out of their way to give me a bag full of sauces to take home. The dining room is tiny but I like the simple, clean design. Tables outside are always covered in sticky ice cream spills. This place, and the entire strip mall area gets crazy busy on the weekends, but their food is tasty, a great value and definitely worth the wait. I can't wait to go back and try more. read more

The Cow was good, I personally don't like fatty meat that I can't chew fully...but the flavor was really good. Came here yesterday on my way back home to Walnut from Long Beach on the 22 East and decided to give this place a try as I had this place bookmarked and was sort of hungry. I did not know that Baos Hog was located in the same plaza as Boiling Crab, Boiling Point, Banh Mi Che Cali and right next to Lien Hoa BBQ. I was a little apprehensive about finding parking at 6:30 PM but to my surprise it was a piece of cake, many spots open but I think it's because people just park alongside the curb which makes it seem like the plaza is that much more crowded. I went in and decided to try 3 of their Bao (Chinese steamed bun filled with meat). I ordered the Duck (roast duck, cucumber, fried shallots, green onions, house hoisin, a cup of duck au jus), Bolsa (crispy pork belly, pickled red onions, pickled carrots, fried shallots, green onions, house hoisin, sriracha garlic mayo), Hot Chick (fried chicken, cabbage + carrot slaw - tossed in vinaigrette topped with peanut powder, cilantro, sriracha). They came out pretty quick within 5 minutes of ordering. Each one was good, I liked the Duck the most, it was a nice, meaty piece of roast duck with some perfectly roasted duck skin, the crispy poke belly was good too, the skin was nice and crisp but it was a little cold and hard to bite through the skin and meat. The hot chick was a nice big piece of juicy fried chicken which had a nice contrast with the dressed slaw. I also ordered a lychee black tea which I believe is just lychee concentrate mixed out iced tea. So overall I think this is a good and unique concept, the 3 bao's were generously filled and together, we're pretty substantial for a meal and for the price I don't think it's too bad. They also serve rice dishes as well so maybe I'll give those a try next time I'm back. read more
