Went on 9/24. I love coming here my girlfriend loves it here. The place has plenty of seating in and outdoors. The lights inside are very pretty kinda gives a Harry Potter vibe. We ordered the mushroom steak and eggs, pork and noodles and the chicken plate they were numbers 2 and 3 on menu. The staff was nice but slow to refill drinks. Food is always great the steak with mushrooms comes with a baguette and its crunchy and tasty with the mushrooms sauce and egg yolks. Noodles and pork were great, so flavorful with chunks of pork and chives very tasty. The chicken skin was soo crunchy on chicken plate and well flavored with the sauce it comes with. Some of the items came with soup and one came with a salad. Im a regular here place can be packed and very loud at times.
Grandpa's Kitchen I've been a longtime customer because their Phnom Penh-style hu tieu has always been very good. They were actually one of the first places around to serve this style of noodles, and I've enjoyed it for many years. However, over time, I feel like the quality isn't quite the same as it used to be. Maybe the prices are a little lower now, but the portions also seem noticeably smaller. I recently stopped by in the evening for some snacks. The atmosphere was open, casual, and lively, although both the service and the food seemed a little slow coming out. The balut was way too big for me, so I honestly couldn't really eat it. But the grilled blood cockles were large, fresh, and very juicy, which I really enjoyed. The restaurant itself is small, but it feels airy and comfortable. They also have outdoor seating, which is especially nice in the evening when the weather is cool. Overall, I still have a soft spot for Grandpa's Kitchen because I've been coming here for a long time. I just wish the food quality and portions were more like they used to be.

I think after tax and tip our total came out to $24 for two people. I was very surprised with the portion size and it even comes with veggies on the side. My friends and I decided to come to this restaurant for their Bo Ne! I ordered the Bo Ne Sauce Nam while my other friends ordered other Bo Ne dishes. Luckily, it happened to be happy hour specifically for the dish I ordered, so it was $13! The dish itself was good! The sauce was creamy (the eggs made it even creamier), and dipping my fresh baguette into it was soooo yummy! I added chili oil to it though for some spice. Delicious! The side of "salad" (a small plate of lettuce and tomato slices) was also nice to have. I ate it with a lot of the pickled garlic. Definitely a filling meal. The restaurant has a lot of seating, but it can get a bit warm. We were seated near the door but were feeling the heat throughout our meal! I don't think the AC was on, and there were no fans for air circulation. Props to the workers for working in a warm environment!
We tried dried and soup noodles and two types of drinks, crispy chicken and rice dish, and Bahn mi with egg and meat. The fresh Bahn mi bread was really delicious
Long time diner, first time reviewer. I've always loved Grandpa's Kitchen, maybe because of the sweet name that makes me think of my own grandpa. They have one of the best egg noodle soups around. The broth is perfectly balanced and well seasoned, the egg noodle is well made, with generous toppings. The dry version of the egg noodle is equally delicious. You can't go wrong with either selection. I'm always surprised at their affordable prices. These days you can't really get a good bowl of noodle soup for under $18-$20. Here you can get a solid bowl for just $8 during happy hour! Whaaat?! Crazy! That is such a great price that I almost feel like I'm robbing them. LOL. During this recent visit, I wasn't too hungry so I just got a small bowl of wonton soup for just $7. It comes with 5 pieces of wontons. The only disappointing thing was that it doesn't come with one of my favorite toppings - tóc mỡ. It would've cost $2 to add it. I really wish they did include it. I also got some grilled pork skewers. Though a little soft, they were pretty delicious - nicely seasoned, flavorful, and make a great appetizer. I also love that they're open late - till 11PM!
Haven't been here before but people have brought food to me from here ;-). My first experience was very positive. All their best stuff is on a simple menu for 9.99. They are dedicated to being the affordable legit Vietnamese family restaurant. You can feel it from the service and the customers. My #1 dry beef pho was great. It's regular pho with the soup and meatballs on the side. Plenty of food, all the condiments, herbs and lettuce you need, plus a variety of beef cuts (fatty ones too) in a big bowl for half the price of a regular Pho place. I'm impressed and I will be back to go down the 9.99 list and try everything.
Big portion!! Grandpapi is here for you in this economy!! Has a couple of bigger tables (4 seater) if you want to come here with family, quite chill, 3% surcharge on credit card, decent plaza parking. Service chill, can pay at register in the front, like typical viet restaraunt where they kinda leave you to it. The Grandpa's noodles was good (a dryer noodle), great portion, meat was tender, the radish cube looking things was crispy bits of pork skin. The menu is unique here and mostly in vietnamese. I think I had wished for some sauce to go with the noodles (but I understand its mostly with the soup on the side), good tightness of the meatballs :D... They have the classic condiments on the side, the pickled garlic isn't very crunchy and kind of on the sweet side, the pickled chili does have that slight acidic kick that works well. I modified my noodle to egg for a dollar. The soup was good, on the more umami soy/beef side than clear. The wontons were abundant too, instead of a chili oil the sauce is more like a tangy sweet chili vinegrette thing. My accompaniment got a garlic noodle soup (fried garlic oil) that was rich and also in a huge bowl. For the price and portion its a hidden gem for someone who needs to feed a family. Not like gourmet, but good enough! Omg, also I missed the corn milk :((
For the price and portion this is a wonderful place to try. Their menu is extremely affordable, fresh and delicious. I love the flavors of each dish and how almost the entire menu is $19.99 or less, many dishes being $9.99/$10.99. The waterfall chicken was as viral as it is yummy! Crispy, juicy and comes with a side of sauce to add more flavor. The staff were friendly and efficient. The location parking is easy as it's a plaza, they do get busy given their prices and quality. My family loved it!
For $9.99, you can't complain. They also have happy hour specials. The food here was actually decent, and we enjoyed it. The restaurant was a decent size, and the food came out quickly. I'll be returning next time to try their chicken plate.

The restaurant was not busy at all, nice and quiet, great service of course since it wasn't busy. I ordered grandma's dry egg noodles and they have one of the best dry noodles I've ever had since moving to OC. They put the perfect amount of sauce, some places don't have enough sauce for the noodles. Also had plenty of protein. I added an order of wonton's which is an additional charge but well worth it. The broth on the side is so refreshing! What I love most is that this restaurant is still very affordable, $10.99 for a bowl of dry noodles is amazing. Definitely a returning customer!
I found another hidden gem Vietnamese spot!! All noodle dishes are $9.99 all day which honestly feels rare these days. After 5PM, they also offer additional items for $3.99, $4.99, $8.99, etc. I went on a weekday around 2PM and it was packed, mostly Vietnamese customers, which is always a great sign. They have indoor and outdoor seating; we sat outside and it was really nice in the sun. Noodles come with pho by default (no extra charge). Switching to egg noodles or another type is +$1. They also bring a complimentary plate of bean sprouts (you can ask them to blanch it). I ordered #7 - Waterfall Crispy Chicken Dry Noodle. The chicken leg was huge with crispy skin. The meat was slightly dry, but still tasty overall, and for $9.99, no complaints. My friend got #1 - Grandpa's Dry Rice Noodle and #10 - Seafood Dry Egg Noodle. Portions were generous, and all dry noodles come with soup on the side. #1 had meatballs in the soup; the others didn't, but the broth was flavorful. Great value for a solid bowl of Vietnamese noodles and I'll be back when I'm craving something affordable and filling. *Heads-up: 1. The intersection is super busy. If front parking is full, there's more in the back. 2. They charge a credit card fee, so bring cash. 3. Service can be a little slow when it gets busy, but the staff is still friendly. There is a lot of parking outside and we were quickly seated after entering. We ordered ốc hương bơ tỏi, hột vịt lộn xào me, khoai tây lốc xoáy (flower snail with garlic butter, balut with tamarind sauce and a tornado potato). I thought they did a great job with the tamarind sauce and butter garlic. We spent $29 for the three dishes. I wish we had a bit more portion wise. I'm not sure if I would ever come back. I'm okay with visiting here only once.

The first and last time here. I had the bo ne, and it was awful. The decent part were the eggs and bread- I mean how can you mess that up? The mushroom sauce/gravy was watered down, and excessive. The steak was hidden somewhere in the puddle of mushroom gravy. - The worst part. It was tasteless, thin, and probably cheapest cut of steak you could imagine. The salad that came with it was ok. At first I didn't realize it was a salad until I noticed the pool of dressing on the bottom of the dish. 1/5 for the bo ne with side salad. My husband's hu tieu nam vang kho, dry Phenh Penh noodles- this was decent. 3/5. We have had much better and this was just decent. The celery in it was a little weird, but it was the excessive amount of celery that ruined the bowl. It wasn't as flavorful as you'd imagine this type of entree to be. Service was ok. Ambiance however was awful, there was some really depressing music playing the whole time. I hope it's not like this all the time. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening with a friend for dinner. My family and I used to be regulars but I haven't been back in recent years. We ordered 1. GRANDPA'S DRY RICE NOODLE & Moon Snail - Garlic Butter. They were alright. For the prices - it was a really good affordable dinner for authentic Vietnamese food. Quality and taste - wasn't bad but wasn't the best I've had either. Ambiance - clean and nice. Service was good too. Location - great location in Little Saigon, and good plaza with plenty of parking. It's alright. I might come back if I want a quick affordable meal in Little Saigon. I'd still recommend checking them out! Their nightlife is pretty cool - later in the evening on weekends - they play loud Vietnamese music and the place gets pretty packed. read more

Extremely affordable menu items, especially when visiting during the gap of hour of their sizzling beef. Most dishes are for $9.99 which is definitely hard to beat within the area. There's is ample seating, quick service and good vibes all around. Would recommend getting here a bit earlier than usual to beat the crowd or be ready to wait for seating. All the items were tasty and looking forward to returning soon again! read more
I'm in Garden Grove with the family and need to find something good at an affordable price. I found Grandpa's Kitchen - Grill Bar 168. I've come to this plaza several times and was unaware that the restaurant was there. When my family and I went to the restaurant, it was fairly empty, with only one or two tables with customers. My first impression was that no service member assisted us; I noticed a staff person eating at the first table and did not even attempt to welcome us in. So I asked the staff worker if we could just get the table ourselves or if someone would help us get it. Then she got up and brought us to the table. When we were ready to order, one of the staff members came to assist us. He took all of our orders, and they even have stir-fried snails available after 5:00 p.m. He's courteous enough to ask the chef if we can get it before 5:00 p.m. We ordered stir-fried flower snails and Tiger Moon Snails. Thank you to the staff member (with earring, sorry I don't know his name) who assisted us. He's the only one who took care of us. The majority of the workers just don't greet to the customers and provide no service at all. Overall, the food is good and delicious; we enjoyed every dish we ordered. If you don't mind no service, only delicious food. This is definitely the place for you. read more
Passed by this place many times but never try. Finally decided to give them a try. Plenty of parking here. Came in on a late afternoon for lunch. The place is clean and nice. The staffs were friendly and welcoming. We ordered the followings: - Chicken Wings - Bánh Mì Xíu Mại The Chicken Wings were very good, had the right amount of flavor and not oily at all. We liked it. The Bánh Mì Xíu Mại sizzling plate was good. The Xíu Mại was soft and tasty. Goes well with the Bánh Mì. The sauce/gravy was alright. The raw eggs was a little iffy. I had stomach pain the next day. Not sure if it was these raw eggs that I ate. Overall we like it. They have a good selection of items for just $9.99. I would definitely come back in the future to try those. read more

I was craving Hu tieu kho allll weekend and heard good things about grandpas kitchen so we decided to make the drive to OC over the weekend. The restaurant was bustling on a Sunday afternoon which is typically a good sign. We ordered the Hu tieu kho ga and waterfall chicken rice plate. We waited for about 15 minutes before our food arrived. The chicken was served with a side of a sweet soy (pro tip: add chili oil) Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the Hu tieu kho. The chicken was so overcooked and dry while the Hu tieu stuck together in a clump, was undercooked and tasted like a flavorless salt bomb :( hoping we just came on an off day since they were so busy. read more
If you like something that's cheaper than most and good portion, this place is it. Parking is plenty so that is a big advantage. The interior is pretty spacious. However, it's not the cleanest n service is sufficient. we come for their noodles only. One was soup version n the other dry. Both were pretty good but not great. read more

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Suggestions: Ask for disposal chopsticks After reading all great reviews, I have decided to give this restaurant a try. I arrive at dinner time and surprised to see their outdoor seating which reminds me of my home town. Restaurant was pretty busy but order came out very quick. Menu is still $9.99. The portion and taste did not disappoint. I ordered grandpa dry egg noodles, seafood egg noodles and 3 pieces of grill meat for $8.99 (I don't think it's worth it.) Grandpa noodles was cook just right. Taste was great but the soup was a bit too much MSG. I do not recommend grill menu, the portion was small. Their reusable chop sticks need to get throw away. Some of the chop sticks top coating are gone and kind of sticky. I tried to get replacement and it was the same thing. I didn't think of asking for disposal chopsticks. Also tried their salted plum kumquat tea. I wanted more plum taste but i tasted more kumquat (taste like orange with a bit of bitterness). The drink was a little sweet for me but when the ice melted, it was ok. Overall it was a good value and great taste. I will definitely be back. read more

Their $9.99 all day, every day entrees menu is quite extensive automatically making the eatery very appealing. We went back in Sep 2025 but the restaurant still runs the special pricing apparently. I'm honestly not sure how they continue to subsist, but whose to complain when such an amazing deal exists. They are known for their dry noodle "hu tieu" glass noodle bowls. Strangely, the restaurant used to be called that, but they are now Grandpa's Kitchen - "Grill Bar 168". I ordered the #1 Grandpa's Dry Noodle which came with special sauce, steak, flank, and meatball with soup on the side. Despite the pricing, the bowl was full sized, meat helping quite large. The meat perhaps wasn't the best quality (a little chewy), but the combination, multitude of ingredients, and yummy soup on the side easily made up for it. While the #1 was fantastic, the #7 Waterfall Crispy Chicken Dry Noodle, while HUGE, was very dry. The waterfall process of frying definitely made the skin EXTRA crispy, the bubbling apparent, but perhaps it was overdone because of the dryness. Special pricing does bring the crowds, therefore it was bustling when we went around noon, but tables turned over quickly which allowed us to sit somewhat quickly. Service was a little slow to start, but prompt once they made it to us. It was HOT inside. Enough people complained so they did finally turned on the AC, but pretty much after we were done eating! I guess they were trying to cut costs and/ or make up for the super cheap pricing. A sweet deal to find out about and pretty good for the price. That being said, if it were priced more, I wouldn't recommend seeking it out. Stick to the $9.99 menu though and you'll be happy! read more
Unassuming little place in a strip mall with delicious homey Vietnamese food. I would've never come across this place if I didn't search directly for banh mi chao. We ordered the banh mi chao and the grandma's noodles. The banh mi chao is the best I've had in the area. The steak is well seasoned and tender, and the sauce is packed with flavor. I made sure to soak up every last bit with the bread. The grandma's dry noodles came in a huge bowl. The pork and sauce were both flavorful. It tasted even better after I added the pickles and chili oil on the table. The noodles come with a side soup. It was a little heavy on the MSG in my opinion, but a little MSG never hurt nobody so it's fine with me. Both dishes came out fairly fast. We were in and out within 20 minutes. read more

I ordered the Waterfall Fried Chicken to-go, and usually it's good, but this time it seems as if they gave me an over cooked chicken that had been sitting around waiting to be thrown away. I've been here a few times with my family because the food is just so cheap and delicious. I always get the mì khô bà ngoại, or the Grandma's Dry Egg Noodle. The sauce is a perfect balance of sweet and savory, and they are very generous with their meat portions which I appreciate as someone who cares for protein. The soup that it comes with is pretty standard but complements the dry noodle so well! For only $10, I think it's worth it, especially since I usually only eat about half and am able to take the rest home as leftovers. The service is always really quick when I go. It tends to get really crowded later in the night, so anticipate a wait. Usually if I go before 6/7pm I'm able to be seated right away. The inside is really nicely decorated with cute lights. It's a pretty small and cozy restaurant. My parents and grandparents also love it here and they're really picky when it comes to Viet food! I will definitely be back to continue trying the rest of their dishes, especially on the $10 menu! read more

Tucked in a plaza where parking can be challenging when packed. Ordered the #14 soup with sliced pork, cubes pork, and meatballs. Soup temperature is perfectly served piping hot although I had to deduct one star for the heavy usage of MSG. Broth was flavorful and was elevated when adding their chili oil from table side. Portions - Definitely generous with the servings of pork which felt almost never ending. Meatballs were tiny but packed with enough protein. Pros - You get a lot of broth which you can potentially pack some home. Food- I ordered #6- Phnom Penh Dry Egg noodles with soup on the side. Good amount of portion for $9.99, taste is delicious 5/5 with a lot of meat pieces. Service- staff are friendly and fast serving for our orders. Ambiance- restaurant has outdoor seating area which is very nice and it reminds me of sitting down at small plastic tables to eat street food in Asian countryside. Tried to give Grandpa's Kitchen another shot, since we thought maybe last time was a one-off day with the dry chicken, but unfortunately it still was an ongoing issue. We ordered the waterfall chicken dry noodles and waterfall chicken rice again, but this time for take out since the wait was long. The chicken was extremely dry in both dishes, the same as when we dined in. The portions seem a bit less in the takeout containers than when we dined in (less veggies, less noodles, less rice). For $10 a dish, this place still is a great deal, but honestly we don't think we will be coming back - the chicken was literally so dry that it hurt our jaws to chew it...The wait can get long and parking in the lot is limited, so try to go during non-peak hours. read more

Came on a Thursday night to finally try this place close to our house since we pass by it a lot. There were about 3 groups of people dining in when we arrived. Was seated right away but it took us a little bit of time deciding what to order. Our server was this young man, he was quick and attentive. People kept coming the whole time we were dining. Definitely wanted to try the snail so we got the Flower one with butter and garlic. It came with corn kernels and about 9 pieces of snail. It wasn't as tender as i'd like it to be. Had the popcorn chicken, it was ok. Nothing special to it. My main meal was the sizzling fried rice cake, egg and fried pork. I was confused for a second because i couldn't find the pork in it. It was chopped into probably 10 tiny pieces. It came with a dipping sauce, it was alright. My husband had Grandma's dry egg noodle with a broth on the side. Now that was tasty. Noodles were a good portion and cooked nicely. Slices of beef were not skimped and there were a few tiny pieces of fried pork in it too. Maybe they use it for added flavoring. I enjoyed having it with fresh lettuce and bean sprouts. We spent about $50 for everything, their menu is definitely inexpensive. Now we don't have to wonder about this place anymore. read more

The Soup Egg Noodle and Dry Noodle combo for $9.99 was a great deal--especially considering today's prices. We also tried the fried chicken with rice. The chicken was a bit dry, but the rice was flavorful, buttery, and had a hint of coconut, which we really enjoyed. However, the utensils were sticky, which raised concerns about the kitchen's hygiene. That's the main reason I'm giving this place 3 stars. The ambiance is nice and kid-friendly, but I'm not sure if I'll be returning. read more

Really busy at peak times but cool concept! Definitely reminiscent of Vietnam restaurants/stalls. There is an indoor space for regular dining and an outdoor space for the street food menu. The prices are definitely good, the 9.99 menu is solid. Service is really nice, was offered a plastic chair to sit on while waiting for indoor seating. They have plenty of small plastic chairs + tables for the outside street food seating. One thing I did notice was the employees were occasionally frazzled and give wrong things to wrong tables, but they did fix their mistakes. I am docking one star because prior to attending I read a review about utensils not being clean potentially, and there was something on one of the spoon handles that looked like it may not have been fully clean. Though I did not confront the staff about it because it didn't seem like enough of a red flag but just something to look out for. I don't put too much pressure on affordable places to be 100%, just a note. Overall, will be back to try the street food. The outdoor ambiance is very chill, very much a cool summer night with friends kind of vibe! Recommend for the price, but be prepared for potential wait time amongst a tinyyy bit of chaos if going at peak times. read more
