Luckily, it happened to be happy hour specifically for the dish I ordered, so it was $13! The dish itself was good! The sauce was creamy (the eggs made it even creamier), and dipping my fresh baguette into it was soooo yummy! I added chili oil to it though for some spice. Delicious! The side of "salad" (a small plate of lettuce and tomato slices) was also nice to have. I ate it with a lot of the pickled garlic. Definitely a filling meal. The restaurant has a lot of seating, but it can get a bit warm. We were seated near the door but were feeling the heat throughout our meal! Long time diner, first time reviewer. I've always loved Grandpa's Kitchen, maybe because of the sweet name that makes me think of my own grandpa. They have one of the best egg noodle soups around. The broth is perfectly balanced and well seasoned, the egg noodle is well made, with generous toppings. The dry version of the egg noodle is equally delicious. You can't go wrong with either selection. I'm always surprised at their affordable prices. These days you can't really get a good bowl of noodle soup for under $18-$20. Here you can get a solid bowl for just $8 during happy hour! Whaaat?! Crazy! That is such a great price that I almost feel like I'm robbing them. LOL. During this recent visit, I wasn't too hungry so I just got a small bowl of wonton soup for just $7. It comes with 5 pieces of wontons. The only disappointing thing was that it doesn't come with one of my favorite toppings - tóc mỡ. It would've cost $2 to add it. I really wish they did include it. The wontons were abundant too, instead of a chili oil the sauce is more like a tangy sweet chili vinegrette thing. I'm in Garden Grove with the family and need to find something good at an affordable price. I found Grandpa's Kitchen - Grill Bar 168. I've come to this plaza several times and was unaware that the restaurant was there. When my family and I went to the restaurant, it was fairly empty, with only one or two tables with customers. My first impression was that no service member assisted us; I noticed a staff person eating at the first table and did not even attempt to welcome us in. So I asked the staff worker if we could just get the table ourselves or if someone would help us get it. Then she got up and brought us to the table. When we were ready to order, one of the staff members came to assist us. He took all of our orders, and they even have stir-fried snails available after 5:00 p.m. He's courteous enough to ask the chef if we can get it before 5:00 p.m. We ordered stir-fried flower snails and Tiger Moon Snails. Thank you to the staff member (with earring, sorry I don't know his name) who assisted us. He's the only one who took care of us. The majority of the workers just don't greet to the customers and provide no service at all. Overall, the food is good and delicious; we enjoyed every dish we ordered. I'm honestly not sure how they continue to subsist, but whose to complain when such an amazing deal exists. They are known for their dry noodle "hu tieu" glass noodle bowls. Strangely, the restaurant used to be called that, but they are now Grandpa's Kitchen - "Grill Bar 168". I ordered the #1 Grandpa's Dry Noodle which came with special sauce, steak, flank, and meatball with soup on the side. Despite the pricing, the bowl was full sized, meat helping quite large. The meat perhaps wasn't the best quality (a little chewy), but the combination, multitude of ingredients, and yummy soup on the side easily made up for it. While the #1 was fantastic, the #7 Waterfall Crispy Chicken Dry Noodle, while HUGE, was very dry. The waterfall process of frying definitely made the skin EXTRA crispy, the bubbling apparent, but perhaps it was overdone because of the dryness. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Special pricing does bring the crowds, therefore it was bustling when we went around noon, but tables turned over quickly which allowed us to sit somewhat quickly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was a little slow to start, but prompt once they made it to us. The soup that it comes with is pretty standard but complements the dry noodle so well! For only $10, I think it's worth it, especially since I usually only eat about half and am able to take the rest home as leftovers. The service is always really quick when I go. It tends to get really crowded later in the night, so anticipate a wait. Usually if I go before 6/7pm I'm able to be seated right away. The inside is really nicely decorated with cute lights. Came on a Thursday night to finally try this place close to our house since we pass by it a lot. There were about 3 groups of people dining in when we arrived. Was seated right away but it took us a little bit of time deciding what to order. Our server was this young man, he was quick and attentive. People kept coming the whole time we were dining. Had the popcorn chicken, it was ok. Nothing special to it. My main meal was the sizzling fried rice cake, egg and fried pork. I was confused for a second because i couldn't find the pork in it. It was chopped into probably 10 tiny pieces. It came with a dipping sauce, it was alright. My husband had Grandma's dry egg noodle with a broth on the side. Now that was tasty. Noodles were a good portion and cooked nicely. Slices of beef were not skimped and there were a few tiny pieces of fried pork in it too. Maybe they use it for added flavoring. Really busy at peak times but cool concept! Definitely reminiscent of Vietnam restaurants/stalls. There is an indoor space for regular dining and an outdoor space for the street food menu. The prices are definitely good, the 9.99 menu is solid. Service is really nice, was offered a plastic chair to sit on while waiting for indoor seating. They have plenty of small plastic chairs + tables for the outside street food seating. One thing I did notice was the employees were occasionally frazzled and give wrong things to wrong tables, but they did fix their mistakes. I am docking one star because prior to attending I read a review about utensils not being clean potentially, and there was something on one of the spoon handles that looked like it may not have been fully clean. Though I did not confront the staff about it because it didn't seem like enough of a red flag but just something to look out for. I don't put too much pressure on affordable places to be 100%, just a note. Overall, will be back to try the street food. We were looking for a late lunch and stumbled upon this spot - I'd actually seen it before on Instagram. They advertise $9.99 meals, which caught our attention. My husband ordered the Grandma Noodles (pork, egg noodles, and salad), which came with a side of soup to pair with the dry noodles. The flavors were solid--definitely reminded us of the Teo Chew-style noodle dishes. I went with the Grandpa Noodles, which came with beef, brisket, beef balls, rice noodles, and salad, along with a side of soup as well. I really enjoyed mine! The service was great, and the place has a modern vibe. They also serve alcoholic beverages like beer and soju, along with boba drinks. Definitely worth checking out. read more

It is one of our favorite restaurants but the food has been declining. The beef for bò né was very thin and it came already cut in smaller pieces. We ordered rare but it was well done and a bit chewy. To be honest, it is not worth $18.99 + tax + tip. The breads were not very fresh or crispy. There are so many new restaurants with bigger, more flavorful steak with pate, egg, xiu mai, mushroom and everything with the same price. We had to remind the staff for bread and drinks. They put less noodles but you could not really tell since the bowl had a lot of soup and onions and diced celeries. But at least they still maintain it at $9.99 . They are generous with their portions and the prices are decent but the service lacked tremendously. Can't believe it's only $10 per bowl! + Tastes like a homemade meal in the best way. The portions were pretty generous & everything was made well. The soup tastes flavorful and light, which I really appreciate. The noodles were cooked well & the various bowls topping / protein option - especially the crispy chicken were all perfect. The restaurant itself is also clean and lively, and service was good! If I lived closer I'd come more often :) I feel like it's almost impossible to get a great meal for $10 these days. read more

Grandpa's Kitchen is a Vietnamese street food haven with comforting and authentic dishes galore! This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. Inside, they have a decent amount of seating. Outside, they have separate seating for their new Grandpa's District concept specializing in different street food stall items. I stopped by with the Phamily for dinner around 7pm and we were seated right away. We opted to sit inside to order off of the Grandpa's Kitchen menu. Keep in mind that sitting inside for Grandpa's Kitchen and outside for Grandpa's District has two separate wait lists and times. For the Grandpa's Kitchen menu, they have a solid selection of their speciality dry or soup noodle dishes for $10! In addition, they also have some appetizers and other speciality dishes over $10. After scouring all the amazing options, I opted to get the Mi Dui Ga Kho (Waterfall Crispy Chicken Dry Noodles) and it did not disappoint! I loved fhe crispiness of the chicken paired with the saucy egg noodles and the warm bowl of broth on the side. Overall, we all enjoyed our dining experience here. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. This spot offers a great bang for your buck especially if you order off of the $10 section.
