A small family owned restaurant located in Garden Grove. We order 4 dishes and most are greatly enjoyed. Pad Cha: This dish comes with a good portion of seafood, but lacks of the flavor. It is not greatly seasoned, it may taste kind of plain to some. I noticed some of the seafood was not cooked fully. I do mot recommend this. Pad Thai:This is a must try! The noodle is chewy and it is not the typical noodle used for Pad Thai. The dish is flavorful and the bean sprouts adds a great crunch. If you love peanuts, then there are some on side. Definitely recommend this. Papaya Salad: Absolutely love it. The salad is well flavored and marinated. Definitely recommend this if you're new to Thai food. I saw people ordering large party tray for papaya salad. Tom Yum Soup with seafood: Great soup option especially in the winter. The portion is seafood is great. The taste of sour and spicy balanced well together. The restaurant seems to be under-staffed. We waited for a while to be seated because the only person working in the front was helping in the back. And our Pad Thai was left out when we did make the order. Luckily the front staff was friendly and the food really made it up. This restaurant happens to be located in the same plaza as OC & Lau, so you might have to park a bit further. I definitely believe this restaurant should be more recognized. Thai Avenue in Garden Grove is your typical run-of-the-mill Thai restaurant, nothing too fancy, just a solid spot for some classic Thai food. I came here with three friends, and even though they technically open at 11:30 AM, we showed up around 12 PM, so they were a bit late in getting things going. We ordered the wet pad Thai, the crying tiger steak, and the Thai sausage. The pad Thai was flavorful and had just the right amount of sauce, wet, but not soggy. The crying tiger steak was cooked well despite being on the thinner side, surprisingly tender, soft, and flavorful. The Thai sausage was also great, not totally sure what meat was inside, but it was delicious enough to not care. It seemed like it was pan-fried, because the outside had a crispy, bubbly texture, while the inside stayed piping hot. The interior is simple and nothing out of the ordinary, similar to most Thai spots. It's located in a strip mall, so while there's a dedicated parking lot, it's a shared space with other restaurants, which means it can fill up depending on when you go, but overall, not too bad. read more

Some dishes we ordered: Tom Yum Soup - not as flavorful as I expected : ( Khao Soi (a northern thai curry noodle dish) - Very delicious! Love their egg noodles and coconut curry broth! Pad Thai - I was a bit disappointed as the noodles used were thin and not the "typical flat noodles" Pad See Yew - pretty good with beef Chicken Satay - a bit on the dryer side/ some skewers were more dry than others. Service was pretty quick. Came in around 810pm and sat down right away. Ordered our food and got it within probably less than 20 minutes. Ordered a spicy beef salad mild, pad see ew, and khao soi spicy, and sticky rice. All of the food was good. The lettuce on the bottom was soak with the sauce so it could be very flavorful and the meat was a bit dry but overall good. Pad see ew and the khao soi was good. This place is okay- a clean restaurant, friendly employees, and decent-enough food overall. My friends and I ordered a beef pad thai, beef pad see ew, and spicy basil fried rice. We had contemplated on their calamari for a while, and since there were no pictures posted, we decided to take one for the community and order calamari to try. I think eventually my friend will post the photo of that elusive calamari dish at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the calamari was quite flavorless, as in not enough seasoning. We asked for salt and pepper and rolled our calamari pieces in that to give it extra flavor. The store almost gets the crunchy texture right, but it isn't quite there yet overall. As for our other dishes, the pad thai was too sweet, and the beef that night for all the dishes were chewy. Spicy basil fried rice was okay. A while back, I had the tom kha from this location with mushroom, and that was pretty good. But I wouldn't say this place is the best of Thai food that I've had. Parking is awful in this plaza because of another restaurant that gets crowded, so plan accordingly. read more

lI was in the plaza to pick up an order from another restaurant when a sudden craving for mango sticky rice brought me to Thai Avenue. They were about to close in 15 minutes, but I decided to pop in and ask if the kitchen could still prepare a to-go order or if it was too late. Initially, they let me know the kitchen had already closed, so I thanked them and left. But to my surprise, one of the workers ran after me and invited me back--they went out of their way to accommodate my last-minute request, which was so thoughtful and kind. The sticky rice and mango were tasty, though the coconut sauce was a bit chunky. It smelled fine, but the texture wasn't ideal. Even so, I appreciated the effort, and the flavors didn't disappoint. And the guy in the front tells me- "well the order previous to ours was received" so that made no sense! I was asked to wait 15-20 min- it was a big order I mean, we paid over $140 dollars! And now I need to wait an extra time?? You gotta be kidding! I asked for free eggrolls- just ONE order and the guy had to call his owner and the owner would t give that to me- she only said ONE... ONE Thai tea.... Yes because your Thai Tea is sooo delicious! Um... no- I wanted to egg rolls and they did not give it to me. So wow!! -100 points/stars for your "amazing!" Customer service! Thai Avenue is my go-to spot everytime there's a crave for Thai food. I've been here multiple times ever since they've opened. This is also where I take my friends from out of town for a quick and delicious meal. A local, family-owned, cozy Thai spot in the middle of Vietnamese dominance area. Service here is always top as everyone is super friendly, treating me like part of the family. I usually get the usual crying tiger, pad see ew, som tum, panang curry, tom kha, and thai boat noodle. Everything is delicious and quite flavorful, especially thai boat noodle which is my all time favorite. Though I've been noticing the food quality has gone down based on the usual dishes I order. Might have been a "miss" day for them, and there are definitely rooms for improvement. Thai Avenue is a good Thai spot for group or family dinner as you get to try different dishes. I stopped by to pick up some shrimp pad Thai. The dish was prepared to order, came out hot, and smelled delicious. To go with this, I also had the spicy pork fried rice. Both items were very delicious, with a great balance of flavor. I've had this place twice because it is close and convenient to my work. The first time I ordered through DoorDash and loved both items that I got. I got the chicken pet Thai and the tom yum soup. I felt like the portions were reasonable, and I was pleased with what I got. But I recently talked to a friend who went there in person, and even though we typically have similar tastes for some reason that she really wasn't impressed with this place. Despite this, I decided to order from them again this time in person for takeout during a weekday lunch. I got the pad Thai again but this time with pork protein. I wouldn't say it was life-changing and it was a little bit noodle heavy rather than different items in the noodle stirfry. But overall, I like that it came out steaming hot and I thought it was satisfactory for lunch. As far as ambience when I went to pick up, I noticed the interior is medium sized. The leather seats looked pretty comfortable and clean. The workers were also really nice and immediately came to help me. Having been here a few times and my experience is not good. Food is not always tasty and fresh. Sometimes it's delicious but not always. Pricey. $16 for a papaya salad Laos style and no protein. Staff is hard to communicate due to their lack of English. Called me to explain the problem on DoorDash and could not entirely understand her. It was just over 2 weeks ago we frequented this fantastic Thai restaurant and we are back already ! This time we are 4 people and ordered 12 dishes (included two orders of mango sticky rice) and took only a small amount food to go at the end. All the dishes were delicious. The only dish we found wasn't as popular with our palate was the Pad Thai - we found it a little bit on the sweet side. Everything else was almost inhaled instantly. We ordered - Tom Yum with fresh water shrimp Chicken satay Crab fried rice Rad na with pork Penang chicken Spicy eggplant Crying tiger Fried shrimp with tamarind sauce Garlic fried soft shell crab Pad Thai Mango sticky rice (2 orders) I think the 4 of us combined have a healthy appetite for good food . It's tasty, but there's just too little of it, and the fish cake needs the sauce to balance its flavors. --+ Tom yum noodle: Mild is not spicy at all. Squid and shrimp are fresh, but there's too little of them and too much noodle in a bowl. I'll go for their soup next time instead of the noodle soup. --+ Fried shrimp with tamarind sauce: Shrimp is fresh, sweet, and perfectly fried. However, the sauce is just sweet, and there's nothing special about it, so I kept dipping the shrimp into the fried snapper chili sauce. --+ Pra rad prik Fried red snapper with house-made chili $35. The fish is over-fried, fishy, and chewy. The chili sauce is nice, but there are only 4 bites of the entire fish. The fish is stale and super fishy. What a bummer. My family and I have been in the great search for good Thai food and this place left us disappointed. Ordered tom yum soup, pad Thai with tofu, beef salad, salty fish fried rice, fried red snapper, soft shell crab, and pad cha catfish. The star of the meal was the soft shell crab - spectacularly crispy and soft. Tom yum soup was spicy, sour, and hot. Wish it had more of the veggies. On the other end of dinner, the beef in the beef salad was cold and chewy. As if it was cut in the morning and left to be a topping later on in the day. The pad Thai with tofu was cooked with thin rice noodles and had no egg, no nuts, no chives. Salty fish fried rice was not salty and was missing any "fishiness" to it. Pad cha catfish tasted very similar to a homey Vietnamese catfish dish. I'm not sure if I'll give this place a try again. Maybe. read more

My girlfriend loves their Pad Thai, and the only Thai food that she eats is Pad Thai. Thai Avenue does its food right here. Their takeout also helped me survive the lockdown of 2020 so I am happy that they made it out ok. Portions are decent, service is great and have not had a bad experience yet. read more

Thai Avenue is a restaurant located in a very popular plaza in Garden Grove, containing lots of Asian(mainly Viet) food spots. The restaurant has a standard, very casual interior. Service was standard. I ordered the Crispy Pork w Chinese Brocolli, Beef Jerky, Chicken Fried Rice, and Thai Tea. The crispy pork w chinese brocollli was cooked for much longer, which would lead to not only a crispy exterior, but a baked-like interior. Normally I don't like this as the smokey flavor is too strong, but the broth that it came with gave a similar texture to as if it weren't cooked that thorough. I really enjoyed their take on this dish. The Beef Jerky was also something different but very enjoyable. While most other beef jerky is cooked to the point of toughness, Thai Avenue's jerky is much softer. The standout part was the fat that was on the jerky, which gave a much more moist and flavorful palette than others. Also really enjoyable. The Fried Rice with Chicken was alright. Chicken pieces were big, would have liked it to be chopped smaller. It was a little too peppery, and not enough salt. The Thai Tea was standard. Overall, 7.5/10. We ordered tom yum hot pot among other dishes. The minute the tom yum came out, I saw a piece of hair so I told the waitress (turn out she's the owner) about it. She said none of the people working there has long hair, implying that it's not their fault and we're lying. She did switch out the pot but with an attitude. Thai Avenue is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. Their Pad Thai and Pad See Ew has so much flavor in it. We got both with beef. I don't like bean sprouts or peanuts so I always ask for my Pad Thai without it and it still tastes really good. I also highly recommend getting their Thai Tea! I've dined in before but I usually just order takeout from them. I give them a call beforehand and it usually takes 10-15 min for the food to be done. It's also located in a plaza with other restaurants, dessert and boba so it's a great place to grab everything at once. Parking here is decent depending on the time of day. It tends to get more packed at night. Overall, great restaurant and I will definitely be returning. read more
