The meal sets all come with an assortment of 6 sides which is rotated daily as well as 3 sides (kimchi, japchae, salad with sesame dressing) for sharing for the table. I love that all sides and lettuce for the wrap sets are refillable for no extra charge! Good place of you enjoy a variety of 반찬 (banchan - Korean side dishes) since each set meal comes with 6 individual ones and 3 additional larger share portion ones. There's a variety of menu options depending on what you feel like (soup, stir-fried/grilled meat) and also other dishes you can order as add-ons. The rice is 솥밥 (sotbap) which is a nice compliment to the food instead of just plain white rice. The interior was kept from the former Korean restaurant that was in this spot, which gives it the feel of rustic, traditional look. However, with a name like Gwang Jang market (famed for its bountiful street market eats in Korea), I was expecting more down to earth menu than the standard Korean restaurant fare offered here. I opted for GopChang (small intestine) stew set which came with a sot-bap (individually cooked mixed grain rice) and 6 tiny banchans. My friend ordered EuGuhJi HaeJangGuk (hangover soup). We were given 3 bigger sides of Japchae (super oily!), Kimchi and Salad with black sesame dressing to share. Banchans (minis and the shareable medium sizes) were hit and miss and my sot-bap felt too dense and heavy for the meal. I would have preferred a lighter rice without so much stuff added to it, even if it's supposed to be healthier. My stew was decent, but the intestine pieces lacked sufficient bounce which made it less enjoyable. The broth was also too salty for my liking, as I was guzzling water for the rest of my day. GwangJang market is a good concept, but I would encourage them to focus more on offering innovative mini sides instead of playing it safe by offering banchans like mayonnaise tossed potato salad alongside a typical restaurant menu. read more

But we enjoyed the spot with all their side dishes. we were so full!! The banchan was top tier. I could eat that salad all day. I don't know what that sauce was but it was really good. Came here with my family for our birthday celebration and we each ordered an entree which came out with an abundance of individual and shared side dishes. My favourite was the eggplant and apple side dish. The kimchi here was quite sour and over fermented. I got the beef soondubu and felt it was okay, I definitely had better stew. My family thought their beef tartare bibimbap, LA beef galbi, and pork stir fry were okay too. My brother's galbi was quite chewy actually. Gwangjang is a good place to try especially if you are a foodie but I do think the strength of this restaurant is more in the variety of side dishes less so the entrees. Service was actually quick and prompt. All our food came out around the same time. It also started getting much busier later on when were about to leave. This is a great place for a casual meal. Located on Yonge just north of Steeles (across from Centerpoint Mall) the location used to be a Daldongae BBQ. There is parking behind the building (off Abitibi Ave) and you can enter the restaurant from the back as well. All the set meals come with 8 side dishes and many of them come with a stone pot of rice. First time coming here with my friends, we loved this place. Each main dish you order comes with a lot of side dishes, and we already had a couple. As usual, we always ended up ordering too much and taking them home afterward. It's hard to say which dish was the best, as they were all pretty good. Both were soups, and one was galbi. If you want fresh, simple, clear broth soup, I would recommend Galbi Tang. If you want a lot of flavor and a soupy dish, I would recommend the Soondae Gook. I got the Galbi with rice; other places charge a lot for it, but here it's a decent price and comes with so many things. So if you're craving galbi and want a lot of side dishes, definitely come here and try it. As for the service, we sat behind a pole, so it was a bit hard to get service, otherwise it's alright; they keep walking around to make sure every table is good or if they need anything. Ugh... I feel controversially compelled to give 3 stars in direct contrast to the majority of yelpers. First of all, lemme get it out of the way. If this review was ONLY about food quality, then it's definitely a 4 star rating. The meat quality is excellent. HOWEVER, the overall experience felt lackluster because I've been to so many BBQ places. There's so many ways that you can eat the meat, so you can experience different flavours but if we're talking about VALUE this place is a 2 star rating. Gyu Hito in scarbs holds a special place in my heart (even though it's not kbbq but jbbq) and if I'm doing a value comparison it's not even the same wheelhouse. Daldongnae is MAD expensive for the amount of food you get. They are EXTREMELY STINGY with the meat portion sizes. For 5 items (4 meat items + a rice), split b/w 4 ppl the total (after tax and tip) came to ~ $160. That's simply outrageous. It was me and my guy friend with two of our female friends. My guy buddy and I were basically crying after the meal because for ~ $10 more per person we could've had an awesome, all-encompassing AYCE meal at Gyu Hito and ate until we at least felt satisfied. I was like 30-40% full (prolly being generous w/ that % too) after the meal here. Moreover, yes, the quality of the meat is better than normal. But the meat over at Gyu Hito is still really good quality so could you even justify having slightly better quality meat here than over there with such a massive value difference? I couldn't. In addition, service left a lot to be desired. We were uniquely sat in the middle column of the resto between two large dividers. It was practically impossible for us to flag anyone down during the meal and we had to rotate raising our hands because we all got tired from trying to grab a server's attention. There were also a couple of times we made full eye contact with servers and they literally just ignored us. They should definitely look to implement the table buzzer system seeing how busy the resto is at all times. TL;DR food tasted great, service was shit, value for money is awful (prepare to go for street snacks, skewers or Mc D's after the meal if you have a big appetite). read more

We had reason to be at Yonge/Steeles, and took this opportunity to dine at Daldongnae's patio. It's hard to resist KBBQ when there's a colorful spread of sides filling the table. Let's start with the meat, the menu offers a selection of pork and beef cuts. We had Pork Belly that was cut to three medium sized thick slices. It was tasty with a refreshing onion vinegar mix & the soybean paste sauce in lettuce wraps. We also tried Beef Hanging Tender cuts that were pre-marinated. It was fairly tender with a steak taste as the marinade was quite light. Fun as always to cook your own meat, despite the summer heat. Along with meat servings, the menu offers a few other Korean dishes. We tried the Seafood Pancake which was pleasantly crispy around the edges, and filled with baby shrimp, squid & scallions. It was too much food for 2 adults, as our meal came with cheese corn, steamed eggs, banchan & soybean stew. While the stew was a tad too salty, the sweet cheese corn & steamed eggs with dipping sauce were delicious; we made sure to refill once. Meal service was pleasant as well. Friendly staff welcomed us upon entering the dim restaurant from their back door. On this hot day, they ensured we had plenty of ice water since we wished to sit in the patio. We were the only family there but we received frequent checkups to make sure everything was well. Our main & side dishes arrived in short order, as did our banchan refills! PS: if you're curious about Daldongnae's dark nostalgic theme, it harkens back to the "moon villages" in the mountains that became refuge post-Korean War. 4.5 stars I've been craving Korean BBQ for the longest time and so happy that I had that craving fulfilled. Daldongnae had popped up on my social media feeds and everything looked so good. I saw that Mike H had gone and there was a patio open for KBBQ. My cousin and I made a reservation the day of over the phone and later that afternoon I received a text asking me to confirm my reservation. I think that's a good system to make sure people don't suddenly decide to bail and not let the restaurant know. The restaurant is located across from the Starbucks and there's a small parking lot behind the plaza designated for the restaurant. The parking spots are all diagonal. I don't think the spots are smaller than usually but many of the vehicles there weren't parked well so be careful when opening vehicle doors. We saw a door open at the back of the building and went up a flight of stairs for Daldongnae. I didn't really have a look at the seating inside the restaurant but did see many tables of different sizes and even a private room. On the patio there were 3 rows of tables of various sizes. I felt that the tables were well spaced apart and that the patio was adequately covered overhead. I saw string lights but didn't notice any other form of lighting so it may be dark when the sun sets. Both the host and servers were cheerful and polite. We filled out a piece of paper with our names and contact info and then scanned the QR code on the table to access the menu. Make sure to choose the correct location when looking at the menu. We had 2 orders of pork shoulder butt and a seafood pancake. This plus the side dishes was way more than the 2 of us could finish. Once the pork shoulder butt got cooking on the grill there was a lot of oil and it started to splatter so be careful when cooking the meat. It's too bad we were so full or else I'd ask for more of the egg and corn cheese. The missing half a star is that the meat wasn't cooked and looked after for us. Second Daldongnae location I've been to! As usual, a lot of the same good food. Great meat and delicious side orders (can't go wrong with unlimited complimentary cheese corn). Also had the chance to try the seafood pancake which I thought was delicious as well. Overall, although the food was great, the accessibility of it was kind of lacking. Not sure why but front entrance was inaccessible so you had to go all the way around the back and up some stairs. Additionally, parking was a bit lacking and super tight and only had one entry/exit point (you had to reverse all the way out, no space to turn). I'd recommend parking across the street by the mall parking lot and just walking across the street. Menu is available is online and be sure to bring your proof of vaccination! Additionally, to reserve your seat ahead of time, they use the YELP app so that is important to know to avoid waiting outside (there's nowhere to wait inside). staff was friendly and quick and overall enjoyed my experience despite some of the inconveniences.
