I was here on a date last night. I've never heard of this place. But I must say, im definitely coming back. The dishes were amazing. The hummus! The flatbread pizza! It was so good!! It was a little fresh outside and there was no room inside so I sat with my date by the fireplace and it was perfect. I loved the outdoor deck and the live music! The drinks were so yummy!! There is a reason why you guys are getting the same "treat you like family, come for a good time" reputation Fralo's has! Your bartenders make this place happen, from the craft cocktails to the attention to detail when it comes to pouring a beer, it's an experience I have not found in all my 25 years in SA! I think I saw review about only 2 bartenders and bad experience...that guy clearly had to many Paloma's. Hey guy! This isn't a restaurant! This is a fine setting bar with a great ambiance and experience is out of this world! Alyssa is hands down the rudest bartender EVER. Less than 10 people in the bar. Had to ask EVERY time we needed something. Took no time to order, took 25 mins for bartender to even realize we needed the drinks we ordered. We were treated dismissively for bringing up our concerns even though the bar wasn't busy. I'm used to sparse service on busy nights, but this was something else. Two drinks were sitting out for no good reason not served to our party. Bartenders were not communicative whatsoever. We requested to cancel our drinks before they even started being made 15 minutes later and were told that no cancellations were accommodated, the drinks were "being made right now." "Right now" evidently means 10 minutes from now. Really enjoy going to different bars around the area, disappointed not to be adding this one to the list. read more

Husband & I went in on a Sunday night for date night...it wasn't too crowded/busy. The bar is well stocked, and the drinks were good - the basil lime margarita was delicious. We also had the buffalo chicken flatbread and the charcuterie plate, which were pretty good and a perfect amount of food. I took off 2 stars because (a) the service and (b) the fact that this place isn't quite sure what it wants to be when it grows up. Service was friendly, but very slow to even acknowledge us after we arrived - then left us for long stretches of time after we got our drinks/food. Probably would have ordered more if they had asked. As for (b) - the advertising (piano on sign), upholstered walls, and fact that they had a jazz pianist on tap for the evening led us to believe that we were going somewhere with a quiet/jazz/wine bar feel...but when we walked in, they had NFL football on the TVs (switched it to the Simpsons after the game) with the lights on very bright. Music was from Pandora (we knew that because the ads that kept running after every other song) - and it was Taylor Swift/Justin Bieber stuff, I felt like I was in spin class instead of a jazz bar. Once the pianist started playing, they switched the TVs to tennis and poker...we just laughed. Are they trying to be a sports bar, maybe?? My suggestions: Turn down the lights a bit, turn up the heat a bit on cold nights (the servers were wearing their jackets, too), put some candles on the tables, pay the $10/month for ad-free music on Pandora/Spotify (and stick to jazz/chill music if that's the image you're going for), and turn off the TV when the piano is playing. And definitely make sure the servers are paying attention. Just my two cents. In its current form, I wouldn't say this is a great choice for date night...it's better for a beer on game days. read more

Fairly new bar in a rapidly growing area of the northside of San Antonio, Bar 301 definitely has the feel that you expect in a higher end bar. With a huge selection of wine, they are perfectly poised to be the go-to spot for the more affluent part of the city. My husband and I have driven by on several occasions and never stopped. Well we finally did and we are so happy we stopped! The patio is such a nice place to have a drink and the cheese board, sliders and flat bread pizza were great. As it got darker the lighting was beautiful. My husband and I have been here several times pre-covid with our daughter. Usually mid afternoon to early evening (gone by 6 PM). Never had a problem...great service and great food. Today we try to go in because my husband wanted a glass of wine and some food on Father's Day. As soon as we enter, the bartender says "I don't think we allow kids...let me check". I said ok, we've been here with her before! We wait a few moments while the bartender calls whoever she needs to call to tell us we can't stay but are welcome to take drinks home. Needless to say we left. Felt extremely uncomfortable. There were only 2 patrons in the building. We could've easily sat outside away from others, had our glass of wine/food and been on our way. I get it, it's a "bar" but if your policy has changed please advertise it and make sure your staff is aware of the changes. We love to support local businesses but I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Really love this quaint little upscale bar. I've been going for a few years now. Before covid, I had great experiences every time and recommended this place to many friends. The craft cocktails were amazing and appetizers were unique and so delicious. The ambiance was amazing too. I've returned about 5-6 times in the past several months but it's been disappointing now..... I still love the ambiance and the live music but the music is way too loud for such a small enclosed space. You can't converse with people because you end up yelling to one another. The patio area isn't any better because the powerful speakers are placed at eye level all around the patio. The service by the waitstaff is lacking too. I recently introduced this place to a friend that just moved here from Austin. We came around 5:30 to sit on the patio, enjoy sun, and music... again the music was blaring and the mood wasn't relaxing. We asked a waiter to turn it down just a bit but he refused. It was a shame because we left after just one drink. We also noticed a few couples come in after us, sit down inside just to move outside, then leave before ordering anything. This has happened each time I've been there..... so sad because I love this place ...but the volume of the music ruins the mood and the staff ignores you until you have to wave someone over. **Bar 301, you have done a beautiful job of creating a unique bar but you must pay attention to the details..... wait staff wasn't very attentive even though it wasn't crowded, music was too loud, and tables were a little dirty with previous drink stains. Bring back those awesome appetizers you offered before covid too. Now that the weather is getting warmer I'd love to come back again. read more

Drinks are decently strong, but beware you may have to pay a mixed beverage tax for cocktails, along with paying for normal sales tax.

I loved it, I have been to Bar 301 on 4 different occasions. I'm a big fan of live music and great acoustics, this place was set up with music in mind. The prices were a little high, but man, each and every time I go the quality of the music blows me away. I highly recommend it. read more

The weirdest bar experience I've ever had. Friends and I went last night and the bartender left the bar for 20-40 minutes at a time, multiple times. I watched a man get so frustrated he went behind every door he could until he could find someone, ANYONE, to help. Once he found someone he came out and announced to the whole room (total strangers who had now bonded over this horrible display) that she was texting on her phone. She comes back out, clearly crying, being rude to everyone, takes orders but then leaves again for another 30 minutes without fulfilling any of them. It was absolutely wild; I have never seen anything like it. I get it, something bad is happening in your personal life. I challenge you to find someone who hasn't had to maintain professionalism at work while weathering a storm in their personal lives. Finally, some other gentleman comes out basically just to turn oxygen into carbon dioxide because you could tell he had absolutely no bar experience (he suited up with latex gloves) and was very uncomfortable being there. He would avoid eye contact, ignore requests, and his awkwardness was literally palpable. We thought for sure we would get a drink or two comped but nope, instead we had six extra drinks on our tab that we never drank. Super disappointing since this place is right down the street. If I were the owner I would be mortified. read more

I have never been to this bar before tonight. Jordan Kizzart and the staff that follows suit, are exceptional. 5 stars does not do this bar justice. Jordan deserves specific recognition. Bar 301 hosted an event for my company and it was a tremendous success! We thought the food may be "bar food", but turned out to be excellent! the duck wings were excellent, the sauce for their chicken wings was sweet with a kick - huge hit! and the sliders were fantastic. More importantly, the service was spot on. One of our top Sales Agents mentioned a dessert drink, not on the menu of a restaurant in Austin (III Forks) that required condensed and coconut milk. The bar did not have these ingredients. The owner, manager and bartender discussed it and to our shock, they sent someone to the grocery store to obtain the items and made the drinks for the table!!! Service does NOT get better than that! This is where we'll have our future company gatherings and then some! thank you Frank for the great experience! read more

It's difficult to find a neighborhood quality bar that offers an original concept in music, food and service wrapped into a concept that works. Bar 301 hit that mark. Not gonna lie - I had high expectations for this place and wanted to like it because I live down the street. But the atmosphere is so blah. It's like being in a gray shoebox. It needs art on the walls, velvet curtains, candles, etc. in order to be demanding the drink prices they are asking. Not worth it. And the service was sub par. I've had better service at a dive bar down the street! You're better off driving the extra miles and going to Jazz TX at the Pearl for a way better atmosphere, and the drink prices are the same! So disappointed as I had high hopes for this place. I won't be back, but at least now I know. read more

Great atmosphere, well placed, mildly high end to mildly casual bar in a location that badly needs such a place. Two visits so far. Cocktails were excellent both times. Staff however is not friendly or social. Between ourselves and friends we have experienced mixed service and unpredictable hours. Bar tenders are not friendly, don't ask you what you are looking to drink, etc. Today, arrived at 4 (which is the stated open time) but doors and bar did not open to 415-420. Several people came and left looking puzzled why it was not yet open. Server was ambivalent to the feedback. Given this is owned by the same owners as Fralos, the service and reliability have a long way to go. All said, we will be back and will continue to give this very unique and well thought out, very needed local cocktail place more chances. One other suggestion is to have a happy hour special...doesn't have to be all drinks, but a just a few! read more

Let me start by saying I never write bad reviews, even when I probably should, but I was really disappointed with Bar 301 for multiple reasons and thought I should share. My husband and I had about an hour and 15 minutes before our movie started so we decided to grab drinks and some food. So we get there and immediately order 2 drinks and food. Knowing it's a relatively new place we were patient but 45 minutes later with no food and slow drink service, we asked for our check and if our food was coming. Well, our order was never put in and the bartender admitted to us she forgot to do so. So we start to sign our tab when the OWNER comes up and explains that the bartender/server was "out of it" and told us she "didn't hear us" because of an "ear ache", even though she had already told us she simply forgot. Turns out the owner only overheard the part that we didn't receive our food and decided to make up a story. And still, at the end of the day, we paid almost $50 for 4 drinks (anywhere from 12-20 bucks as if we were at Bohanan's) and instead of making it right for the customer, he decided to make up a story and still never offered anything for our inconvenience. Safe to say, we'll never return. Extremely overpriced for what you get and where you are, let alone the fact that the service and management were laughable at best. read more
