Tucked within (at the back of) Mother Wolf, Bar Avoja has its own vibe, its own reservation system, and its own menu. It's a lounge in every sense -- bigger than you'd expect, lots of armchairs and cushions, low tables, and just enough dim lighting (one small lamp per table) to set the mood. We showed up around 6:30pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, which honestly made for a lovely, relaxed start to the evening. A heads up if you're coming with a vegetarian: the food menu is limited, and vegetarian options are slim. There were really only three when we visited: * Sfincione All'Aglione: garlic knot-style bread, tasty but I actually prefer the sfincione over at Mother Wolf * Frittatina alla Norma: rigatoni-style lasagne cut into fried squares, served with sauce. A fun concept, but mostly tasted like the breading and fried flavor. * Fried squash blossoms: we skipped these Our waiter did offer an off-menu margherita pizza for my vegetarian friend, which was a nice touch. As a non-vegetarian, I had the hamburger - usually a Thursday-only item that they extended through Mother's Day weekend - and while it was good (hot, crunchy fries included), $38 felt steep and honestly... at a Roman Italian bar, I'd probably just order off the actual menu next time. The cocktails are where this place really shines: * Morso Di Vita: passion fruit forward with tomato and basil -- excellent, would reorder immediately * Robusta: ginger forward, light and refreshing * Sole Dorato: billed as a spicy margarita, served with an adorable little honey stick One tip: ask about dessert! We weren't offered it and almost missed out. So glad we asked because we ended up with: * Budino al gianduia (I think, no photo of dessert menu): amazing. Crunchy bits on top, thick chocolate ganache layer. Get this. * Passion fruit mandarin sorbet: light, tart, refreshing - a great way to finish Service was friendly throughout and the pacing felt easy. Overall I'd go back for the cocktails & vibe and to actually explore the non-vegetarian menu more. Currently on Inkind if you want a discount! Parking: Hollywood meters can be tricky - I'd suggest heading south on Wilcox where you can usually find something a few blocks into the neighborhood. Or just do valet and enjoy the night. read more

Tucked away in a shared space with MotherWolf, this bar is truly a vibe. We had terrific cocktails and the food is k point. It's a fairly limited menu but the food is from MotherWolf so it's pizza-focused but delicious. We had the garlic knot, the Cesar salad atop pizza, squash blossoms and finished with some delicious gelato (pistachio yum!) If you're looking for grown and sexy vibes this is it! we had the best time here for girls night. The music, the drinks, the food. EVERYTHING WAS TOP TIER. SOOO soooo goood. They had a DJ playing records all night. Lot's of disco and 90s rnb. The cocktail menu was amazing. We tried sooo many drinks and all the girlies agreed this is def the best espresso martini we've had so far Our second favorite was the one with honey served with a cute wooden honey wand For food we really loved the fried carbonara. Bar Avoja has got to be the most beautiful bar I visited in 2025. I'm a big fan of all of Evan Funke's restaurants, and Bar Avoja lived up to the hype as his newest offering. We were greeted immediately by the Mother Wolf host when we arrived (as Bar Avoja is located inside Mother Wolf). While I believed I had made a reservation for Bar Avoja, I had made a mistake and there was no reservation, but the staff were able to seat us immediately when we arrived anyway. The interior of Bar Avoja is gorgeous. With decadent red curtains all around the bar, and a dim-lit interior, it feels a little bit like you're in Eyes Wide Shut. A waitress soon came over to take our orders. She was super friendly and gave us both drink and food recommendations. We ended up ordering four dishes, and were pretty stuffed by the end. The dishes we got included the sfincione (focaccia like a garlic knot), the octopus skewers, squash blossoms, and frittatina alla norma. The sfincione and the frittatina were the standouts of the meal, and they were both carby dishes so they filled us up. There isn't a lot on the menu, so I'm not sure if I'd recommend it as a place to get a full dinner, unless you're okay with the lack of variety. read more

Bar Avoja is one of the coolest restaurants/bars I've been to in recent memory. The decor and ambiance were on point, and the service was impeccable. Located inside Mother Wolf, the space has an upscale, speakeasy vibe to it. In addition, the food was way beyond expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and cannot wait to come back. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area. I highly recommend it! read more

Pear martini is a delight! I asked for my 2nd to be a little less sweet based on my preference and they happily obliged. Kind of felt like a mob princess ... in the best way! The garlic bread wasn't for me (I don't like butter) but it was a hit with the others at the table. read more

Come here on a date, come here with some friends, come here alone to vibe out with the DJ. The scene is cool, dark, sexy and cool. The food was stand out, loved the meatball dish and insalata di nonna. My favorite, hands down, are the drinks. The take on the martini is perfect! Duchessa, order it! You won't regret it. Bar Avoja is a new concept for us local Hollywood-ites who have been frequenting Mother Wolf since their soft opening several years ago. Bar Avoja is designed smart and immediately makes me want to host a birthday party there. Like Mother wolf there is amazing incredients to be savored and of course the bread service is impeccable. Cocktails well made by Cameron were so well explained by him that we had to order them.... Twice ...each! Also, A big shout out to our great server Madison who added the most fun energy while taking us thru the menu items and made sure we were pairing well. I wish a long future to Bar Avoja as Mother Wolf has that Manhattan high volume energy but Bar Avoja provides that elegant Manhattan experience that one could have for a sexy-birthday or anniversary or with this amazing DJ could host any given Oscar party or maybe even my own birthday party next year - thank you for you all do - Madison you were great and so were the kind Mother Wolf hostesses who checked us in a bit early - that was kind as one sometimes doesn't want to be so early that its annoying - but then again we can walk here from up Whitley. I don't think the waiter ever asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. very limited menu, small portions so you're kind of forced to order a pizza, $20-25 per drink maybe 20-30$ for food per person. Automatic 25% gratuity applied, even for small parties, so expect at least $70 per person for a pizza, a shared appetizer, and one round of drinks. Add $30 per person for each additional round of drinks. Interior looked cool, but the dj was mid and killed the vibe. Seems like a money grab for mother wolf, there are much better places in hollywood at this price point. won't come back. read more

Had a delightful Friday evening at this velvety Roman speakeasy behind Mother Wolf. Creative cocktails, small but delicious menu, groovy but not overbearing tunes, and jewel-toned decor made for an experience that felt energetic and social but also cozy. Best of all was the spectacular service -- incredibly friendly and professional with excellent recommendations. Even the bus server was amazing; our water glasses were never empty. This place was very cool. Very HIP. It is not a restaurant. It is a lounge that serves good food in the style of Mother Wolf. You will not have access to the full Mother Wolf food or wine menus. They have their own menu which provides 2 must have appetizers (the Focaccio and a cheese board), 4 types of flatbread/pizza and 4 unique small plates (and dessert options). There is a full bar but only 3 red wines to choose from. We went with the Beragna Dolceacqua. It was one of the best Italian wines I've had. Went great with the Focaccio which is smothered in Parmesan. I didn't love the 2 flatbreads (got the Palermo and the Rosso). They are not pizzas. Too light and not heavy enough on the flavor but that is likely intentional as this is not a full dinner spot. Great spot for groups to hang and drink with better than usual appetizers. Would come again to try more of the DELLA STRADA, which we didn't make it all the way through. Only got the squash blossoms which my wife loved. Oh , they have great music too. Prego! read more

Good cocktails and upscale ambiance, enjoyed watching the DJ on the floor as we sat. But somehow the interior design couldn't improve the fact that there is not a single window in the place which just personally makes me feel a little uneasy. That is my only negative. I was misled by food writers and my friend and I walked out like, "meh." Been really wanting to go to try this "Roman street food" and there was zero interesting about the menu or the food. I was a cook for Wolfgang Puck. I worked for Brad Ogden in the Lark Creek kitchen. I worked at La Brea Bakery. I know food. The hostess was not friendly. We were walked through a restaurant to a dark bar that had no bar seats. I wanted to sit at a bar. Instead I was sitting on a bank where I sunk so low that the small table was practically at my shoulders while my friend towered over me from his chair like the Inquisition. The menu writing was so tiny and there was no light to read it so we had to use the phone light. We ordered some anchovies because we wanted pasta and pizza and the only other offering in that section was a huge chunk of bread...and none of the famous Funke pasta. We were told by two staff that most people just add the anchovies to their next course. They arrived at the table first. Alone. We hadn't even gotten our cocktails. Then squash blossoms which were delicious although you had to eat half of them before you found any cheese. We ended up with Caesar pizza because we didn't feel like meat and it was basically a gynormous salad with a few slices of dough underneath. Really, it was so boring. I would have expected a bar where we could order small snacky "Roman street" offerings while sipping cocktails. Instead what we found was a club with a DJ with very expensive generic food. Can't add a picture because there was nothing picture worthy and it was too dark to take a photo. The waiter was nice. Some guy came out of nowhere and introduced himself by name and told us to call on him if we needed anything and we never saw him again. The whole vibe was super weird and lame. This is the best food I've had in a long time! The Caesar salad on pizza was beyond delicious, perfectly seasoned and dressed, and paired well with a side of anchovies. The octopus was also perfectly cooked and seasoned. Music is great on Thursday nights and the overall vibe is just dope. I will definitely be back to try the cocktails! read more
