Came here on a Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. Reservations are a must because it was busy when we got there and most tables inside were taken. We found metered parking on the street but it can be difficult, unless you valet. Inside is loud, sometimes we found we had to yell at each other but as the night went by and tables cleared out, it became much better. The ceilings are low and the room walls are brown, so it can look a little stuffy. Service was great, our waiter was amazing. There were like 10 specials and he knew them all backwards and frontwards lol. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and I have to say it was good! It was pounded out thinly and it wasn't heavy at all. French fries were ok, nothing exciting. Chocolate pudding was really good, something I would order again. My only complaint was that between our appetizers and entrees, we waited over an hour. My five-star rating is for the butterscotch pudding. It was divine. Classic butterscotch flavour in the creamy pudding, topped with delectable salted caramel and homestyle whipped cream. Perfect dessert. I chose this spot specifically for this item for a very weighted reason, and it delivered. The rest? (Dinner and drinks, plus service and ambience) Were it not for the pudding, I would give a 3-star rating at most. First off, we waited way too long to be attended to upon being seated. My cocktail (the Jar Manhattan) was nothing special - and a bamboo cherry skewer, really? - and my boyfriend ordered a beer and received the can with his glass as if he were being pubicly chided for ordering suds at "such a fancy place" [Fast Times At Ridgemont High's Rat quote]. Our meat (skirt steak and pork chop) were not cooked to our liking. We're still kicking 24 hours later, so it wasn't like a premise liability raw meat thing! Just that we ordered the steak medium well and it was vividly red and bloody (see pics) and my pork chop was thiccccc and very pink (pork can be cooked to completion and still be pink, so I wasn't concerned, but...). We just wish our meat would have been a little less...alive. We also had to practically beg for knives...aren't knives usually brought out just before plates if one orders a meat entree? The entree plates were too small, especially if you're insisting on family-style sides that people need to slop onto their main plates. The bread app was incredibly mediocre, and BIG NOTE, civilised people need butter knives for bread...either with the table setting service, or give us one proper butter knife with the bread plate. Despite the lack of real estate on the entree plates, the sides are shareable without being charged extra...about 2 servings per vessel. The mashed potatoes were good. I parked at the Beverly Connection, $4 for the whole evening via SpotHero. There's also valet right outside the restaurant if you don't want to walk about 10 minutes. I got what I wanted out of this experience (the pudding), but I wouldn't say this was an outstanding meal or dining experience. If they think they can charge their current prices, they should brush up on table setting etiquette (plating, flatware, etc.) and be sure to promptly serve - kiss the asses of, even - the patrons whom they expect to shell out their hard-earned money at this surprisingly long-standing establishment. read more

We, 5 retired guys, are visiting restaurants that Harry Bosch eats in as written in thevnovelsby Michael Connelly. JAR is our 12th outing. It is a surprisingly lovely venue. A little hard to find as there is no signage outside at the moment and parking as usual in LA is a challenge. However it was really worth the effort. JAR has been added to our "Will Return" list right along side Musso and Frank's et al. Food and cocktails were exceptional. Quite pricey, I suspect that's due mostly to cost inflation as opposed to profiteering. Jose our charming, smiling, hard working "Bus Boy" has worked there for years and years and added delightfully to our experience. read more

The last two times my pork chop has been undercooked. Honestly I don't get the appeal of this place and I don't know how it's stayed open as long as it has. Our first visit and we enjoyed our dinner. Good food, nice service, and retro, yet trendy ambiance. We had the first seating but the restaurant was packed by the time we were done. I will admit folks on the Westside are more stylish than OC. It was nice to see people dressed up for dinner. The food was all good, if not amazing. The signature pot roast was good but underperformed my high expectations. The big rib on a bed of noodle (daily special) was really nice (I love beef ribs!). The chicken was very plump and moist. Parking is not great but we were greeted by the receptionist and made to feel welcome. From the outside, it looks closed but inside it's warm and inviting. We loved the crab deviled eggs, but I bet they'd be just as good without the crab. Everything is a la carte. My chicken schnitzel was excellent and maybe the best onion rings I've ever had--a day later they warmed up really well. My partner loved her steak. Two glasses of Prosecco but you need to check the bill. Be sure to audit it because we were overcharged, but the waiter corrected it promptly when brought to her attention. read more

BEWARE Valentine's Day Reservations If you plan to make a Valentine's Day reservation here, please be cautious. My partner surprised me with a reservation at Jar and paid $500 for Valentine's Day (February 2026). When we arrived, there were around 40 (unhappy and confused) people waiting to be seated for their reservations. We were told it would be a 30-minute wait for a post 8pm reservation. However, while waiting, we learned that others had already been there for 45 minutes to over an hour, despite also being told their wait would only be 20-30 minutes. Looking around, most tables didn't even have food yet. The atmosphere in the restaurant was extremely uncomfortable and stressful. After waiting 30 minutes, we requested a refund because it was clear the delay would be much longer. The manager told us we could not receive a refund until Wednesday of that week and would not take any of our information to confirm it would be processed. Fortunately, when we called on Wednesday, someone at Jar did honor the refund. The manager's response was notably detached and lacked concern for the stress faced by guests. When asked if the system went down and caused this issue, the manager shifted the blame on the patrons by saying "people just overbooked the system". After reading reviews from the past four years, it seems this happens every Valentine's Day. Jar may provide fine service on regular days, but their Valentine's Day operations feel misleading at best. No one wants to spend $500 on a reservation only to leave hungry after a long wait. Had a reservation for 9pm, didn't get seated until 950pm. There weren't even enough chairs for us or the other 10 couples who were waiting to be seated. Didnt get our appetizer until 1030pm, and our under cooked steak was brought out at 11pm. The table was too tiny, we were still charged for one drink I had while we waited for a table to open up. Most likely never coming back. Like another reviewer said previously.. this place is JARbage!!! So quick to charge me 502$ for a crappy Valentine's Day experience. I had read about this restaurant, and decided we'd try it. I could honestly say, for the exhorbitant prices, no real atmosphere, I will not be returning. We had a Caesar salad (we were told if we split it, there is a sharing charge), chicken schnitzel, short ribs of beef and duck fried rice. Nothing we had was exceptional enough to want to return, I was embarressed that I picked this restuarant and insisted on paying the bill. Our bill without alcohol & gratuity was $135. How I wished we had stayed at their neighbor restuarant which was adorable, very airy with light shining thru their ceiling skylights with a great menu, "Florence Osteria". Wow what an experience! We had a fantastic dinner here for Christmas Eve, and it was all around a good time. Absolutely recommend coming here, in fact we'll definitely be back soon ourselves! Food: 5/5 My partner and I had been snacking and restaurant hopping prior to going to dinner, so we ended up splitting a steak. I was a little worried about how that might be perceived in a venue like this, but our waiter was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable with doing that. We ordered the Prime Ribeye & Jar French Fries. Both were DELICIOUS. I had read some reviews prior for both of these menu picks stating that they were over salted and overcooked, but I would disagree wholeheartedly with those reviews. The steak was a perfect medium-rare for us, the fat melted in our mouths, and the fries were deliciously well-seasoned. I'm usually picky about fat on steak cuts, but I ate all of it without any complaint. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and I've eaten at a lot of steakhouses globally. My partner was so happy with the meal as well, as I recall them telling me about how "even though we were so full, the more I eat this the hungrier I get!" And that was so true! Dessert: 4/5 We got a Butterscotch Pudding to split & I got an Espresso Martini. The Martini was unusually strong, at least for me (I have a high tolerance), so the point down is for that. But again, shoutout to our waiter! He brought a little cup of chocolate sauce for me to add to my drink to make it less heavy, which helped considerably. The pudding was also so good. It was whipped, light, and airy, and again--normally I have an issue with certain textures but even the whipped cream I enjoyed! I usually greatly dislike whipped cream. But not this one. The flavor wasn't too rich, and it was just perfect! My partner was a big fan of this one too. Service: 5/5 OUTSTANDING! I believe his name was Daniel? I might be wrong, but my partner would likely know for sure. I'll update this review later for that! But oh my goodness he was fantastic. My partner rarely dines out, especially at upscale fine dining establishments. So he was a bit nervous however, our waiter made all of these worries dissipate. He was so fun, so energetic, and so accommodating! His silly santa hat was the cherry on top, plus all of the menu recommendations. At the start of the evening we had a significant wait time despite having a reservation. But all of that quickly was out of sight & out of mind because of the great service. I've eaten at Jar many times. I recently chose it as a special occasion meal for my friend. Granted, I hadn't eaten there in three years. Something seems to have changed. The food was good enough, and the salmon was beautifully prepared, as always. The drinks seemed unusually weak. The sad, petrified $20 yam should not have been recycled and served. (How many days in advance did they roast that poor desiccated tuber?) Anyone can have an off night, and everyone should have a night off (chef owner was not around that night which may have been the problem). The main issue is that we were last called for our entrees at 8:40 (!) followed by a really offensive dessert last call around 9:35. Our server never checked in on our meal. (Her service waiter/food runner was charming!) Yes, this is LA where people under 40 often hit the sack before 9, but should a $250 guest check receive a dessert last call well before 10PM? I never leave reviews, but my experience at Jar on Valentine's Day was so disappointing that I feel compelled to warn others. We had a prepaid reservation for 7 PM but were not seated until 8:45 PM--and didn't get our food until 10 PM. That alone was unacceptable, but the food made it even worse. Overcooked steak, dry and tiny potatoes, and beans that just tasted like smoke. I don't blame the staff--they were clearly overwhelmed and just as frustrated as the guests. This was a blatant case of overbooking for a $450 prix-fixe dinner, and management showed zero regard for both customers and employees. It felt like a money grab at the expense of everyone's experience. What a shame. Hopefully, Jar learns a lesson from this disaster and treats both its patrons and staff with more respect in the future. read more

This is a wayyy overdue review on this hidden gem of a restaurant. I've been a huge fan of Jar for years. In fact, I had a fabulous birthday dinner party there, during the holidays. It was a success! What can I say??? The food is consistently delicious, and the service is on point. I love the way the restaurant is set up. I've tried EVERYTHING on their menu, and my favorites are the pot roast, lemongrass chicken, the crab deviled eggs, the wild salmon, and their butterscotch pudding! Don't be afraid to try something new and different. Take the opportunity to try something exciting. Everything is tasty! I've NEVER had a bad experience, here. chose to book a reservation for Valentine's Day 2025 at Jar based on excitement regarding their menu. We've been wanting to dine here for a while and thought this would be the perfect opportunity. When I made the reservation I was called by the restaurant and given instructions about when to arrive, etc. I was not told at any point that they wouldn't be serving their regular menu and that instead they'd be offering a set menu. Our reservation was at 8:30PM; when we got there at 8:15PM as instructed, there was a long line outside of the check-in area. It was cold and no heaters were provided. Everyone in line had a reservation, that's how late the restaurant was. We stood there for 20 mins and no one from the restaurant came out to explain what was going on; diners were forced to educate newcomers to the line and because of the disorganization we were cut in line multiple times. Someone finally did come out but no apology was given, just a joke about love being everywhere (the joke didn't land lol). When we finally checked in, a half hour after our scheduled reservation, we were told it would be another 30-40 minute wait; we were herded, like everyone else, to the bar area-- no free drinks offered, no apology. That's when I first noticed the set menu. $175 for what looked, to me, like the worst options on their menu. No signature dish of Pot Roast, no opportunity to order sides a la carte. Again, this was never communicated to me. This was a shockingly bad experience and sorely disappointing. We did not stay for dinner because of everything mentioned, and it really ruined our Valentine's celebration. The lack of care and apology really hit me-- people choose to celebrate at a place for a reason and being treated like this (at a pricey, upscale place in Beverly Hills no less) was really a bummer. I really don't know that we'll ever go back. My first job was as a hostess at a Red Lobster in middle of nowhere Ohio and I swear to god we had more decorum and sense of care about us there than this place did on Valentines 2025. read more

I recently tried this restaurant with family while on a trip to LA. It is certainly expensive, but the food is great quality and the service is excellent. I ordered the pork chop and we ordered a variety of sides for the table, including the kimchi Brussel sprouts and french fries. Pork chops can definitely be easily overcooked, but this one was delicious and perfectly cooked. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The glaze was also very good. I was skeptical about Brussel sprouts and Kimchi together at first, but this experience has converted me! It had great flavor and was probably my favorite side. I also enjoyed the fries and had a scoop of mango sorbet for dessert. I'd say while Jar is pricey, it isn't overpriced. You get a great quality food when eating there. The service was excellent. Our server was Chris, and he was very professional and knowledgeable about the menu. I have a sever dairy allergy, and he both could tell me what I could have on the menu and double checked about my order as well. He had the chef modify my pork chop to not have any butter and also had our order of the Brussel sprouts made with olive oil instead of butter. They also had a dairy free mango sorbet I tried for dessert. The only snafu I experienced is that they did put an onion with pesto on my plate. I typically can't have pesto, and when I asked the server he apologized right away and said it did contain cheese , and he didn't know why they had put it on my plate. The rest of the food was fine for my allergy. I appreciated that they could accommodate the dishes for my allergy. Overall, Jar was a great experience. A few weeks ago I had time to kill before meeting some friends for dinner, so I wandered into Jar, which I didn't know, to have a cocktail. I sat at the bar and ordered the Naughty Martini (Blue cheese olives!) The people next to me offered me an onion ring from the (enormous) plate of them that had just arrived. It was amazing. They asked me if I was a regular (they were). I told them I'd never been there before and they said, "So now you'll be a regular. They were right. I couldn't have dinner there that night, but I've now been back three times. The chef, Suzanne Tracht, is amazing, and can frequently be seen around the dining room, chatting with patrons and making sure everything is just right. The ambiance is wonderful, elegant and quiet. I plan on trying everything on the menu over time. Everything I've had so far has been spectacular, such as the pot roast, for which Tracht is famous. The specials I've had (scallops and a porterhouse) were perfect, as are all the appetizers and sides I've tried (get the crab deviled eggs and the creamed corn!) And cocktails can't be beat. Try the new addition to the menu, the "Not a Negroni." And the Naughty Martini with the blue cheese olives is also great. read more

Jar is an acronym for Just Another Restaurant, which specializes in classic American dishes but elevated. Last night was my first time dining for dinner but it won't be my last. I love how low lit it is and every seat in the house is very comfortable whether you sit in a booth or one of the tables. Our server John was also very knowledgeable, funny, and did a great job. We arrived 20 minutes early and didn't expect to be seated until our booked time but they offered to seat us early and did so, which was really appreciated. They have many great menu options so I will have to come back again to try a few more but this time I started with the Roasted Beets and they were really delicious. There was a healthy size of Burrata with it and the beets were perfectly sweet. For my entrée I chose their signature dish The Pot Roast. It was one of the better ones that I have ever had and eating it with the creamy horseradish on the side is a must. Honestly it's so good I would go back for that dish alone. For dessert I chose the butterscotch Budino because it's one of my personal favorite desserts and it did not disappoint. It was a large portion but still went quickly. Overall it was a really nice dinner and I would recommend to anyone for any occasion. He told me JAR means Just Another Restaurant. Hmm? Suzanne visited our table and wished me happy birthday. Her eyes sparkled when we talked about how wonderful the dinner experience was. We had Fries, onion rings, cocktails , cha chu pork, ribeye, special bone in buffalo steak, pea tendrils, duck fried rice, Kim chi Brussel sprouts, chocolate pudding, and after dinner drinks. Fast forward, February 16. Dinner for 3. Chris waited on us and was very attentive. Everything was great as before except for the special duck beast special. It was extremely dry and flavorless. Despite having a reservation and having pre-paid for the Valentine's Day dinner, we were left hanging and never got seated. There was very poor communication from the staff regarding the reason they were so behind. There was nothing offered to the many couples that waited for more than an hour and a half; not a glass of water, a glass of champagne, not a piece of bread. The tables seemed tightly packed, and there was nowhere to stand inside because so many people were waiting to be seated. We plan to be refunded for a reservation we never got to use and will not return to Jar. We ended up having a much more enjoyable meal and experience at another nearby restaurant that welcomed us. read more

I read in other reviews that the food was salty so I decided to ask for no salt and that was a great call because the flavoring was perfect without it. We had the pot roast, which was delicious. The duck fried rice had too much going on in the dish so I wouldn't recommend that, and the banana creme pie was okay. I would have preferred a more classic custard pie over their version. Ambiance is a bit stuffy - it feels like an enclosed room. I prefer a more open atmosphere, but I'm sure there are people who prefer this. read more

This is my third time coming here. This is the first time in many years and the first time during the pandemic. They started indoor dining a few weeks ago and the restaurant was about half capacity because of social distancing. The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the crab deviled eggs to start. Then I had the chicken schnitzel, which hands down IS THE BEST DISH in LA right now. OMG, there's something about this dish that floored me. I don't know if it was the crispy, light breading, or if it was the vinaigrette, but it was absolutely amazing. Jar is a Modern American Chophouse that stands for "Just Another Restaurant." However, for me, it is not just another restaurant. Jar is a very intimate, small, and delicious restaurant with excellent service, great food, and great ambiance. When entering the restaurant, I already knew I would have a wonderful time. We had perfect seating, and our waiter, John, and the wait staff were very on top of it, and everything came out in perfect timing, not too slowly but not too quickly. We started with appetizers and drinks. I am all for a White Russian, so that was my first drink, and then for the table, we got a dozen oysters and black mussels. I'm actually not a fan of mussels, but these mussels were really delicious. For my main meal, I got a skirt steak. John recommended that each of us get one side and share for the table. I went with the purple yams, which was delicious! I had never had them before, and I was surprised by how really, really, really good they were. As for dessert, we got three for the table; this included the chocolate pudding, the banana cream pie, and a slice of red velvet cake. I also got a cappuccino because I have to get coffee with dessert. The desserts were a little disappointing; the only really good thing was the banana cream pie. The red velvet cake was really dry, and the chocolate pudding was just blah. Some things to remember: If you're going to head to jar, which I recommend, they do not have valet parking which I did not like. We ended up parking on the street, but we found out after the fact that we could have parked in the garage across the street. If you want to dine inside, you must show your vaccination card and ID. If you do not have it, you can dine outside. However, I feel to get the whole experience of Jar, inside dining is the way to go. read more

Had such an amazing experience here! The ambiance is great, service is excellent, and the food is delicious. The owner/chef, Suzanne, is so humble and sweet! She joined us at our table and it was such nice company! We ordered a really tasty bottle of red wine (Poliziano), which paired perfectly with the Rib Eye special that they had, along with the oysters, purple yams, mashed potatoes, and fried duck rice. I'm ambivalent about Jar. While the overall quality is good to very good, their prices and business approach left me wondering how they stay in business all of these years. The bad: No gratuitous table bread / butter. These may be ordered at $6.00 per. The bread that comes is quite small, approximately the size of a baseball in 5 - 6 thin slices. For 6 adults, we had to order 3 breads and butters. $18 for bread and butter is way beyond excessive. Entrees come with a small garnish and no sides. My 15 oz prime rib-eye steak came with a 1/2 golf ball size grilled onion. Sides ranging in prices from $13 to $20 must be ordered separately. Even something as mundane as creamed spinach is $17 extra. The glass of cabernet we ordered was acidic and high in tannins. I expected a higher end restaurant to provide better quality alcohol, even for a simple glass of wine. Beers ran $8 - $12 per can. Jar offers IPAs, pilsners, and lagers. If you're looking for dark beers (ales, stouts, and porters), you're out of luck. Desserts were simple and unmemorable. We ordered a banana cream pie ($17) and a butterscotch pudding ($15). While nothing was wrong with them, they weren't interesting, novel, complex, or noteworthy in any way. The $17.00 purple yams with creme fraiche side, while sounding fancy, has the taste and texture as baked potato, nothing more. Don't let the fancy color and name lure you in. Jar offered no complimentary birthday food. They did provide a lit candle which was placed into one of our desserts. Our bill for 6 people came averaged $100 per person for one wine, two beers, 3 breads / butters, 6 entrees, 4 sides, and 2 desserts. Parties of 6+ guests will automatically pay a 20% service charge. The good: We very much enjoyed the jidori chicken. Jidori is to chicken as wagyu is to beef. If you haven't had this before, it's definitely an eye opener. The soft shell crab special was very good. Each order came with two small crabs that were perfectly cooked, soft, and seasoned. Arguably Jar's best side is the $20 duck fried rice. I really wonder why people are so miserable in there personal lives that they come on Yelp or any social media platforms and talk crap about business that are amazing. Came here last nite on a date before a show and had amazing time and great meal. We had the rib-eye and the fries with a Gem salad the was special last nite . Service was slower then any one would like , but it's not easy hiring people in this day and age , so I'm not going to let that ruin a great meal. And the waiter made up for by buying my date a drink on them. Overall this place is like Hillstone group level of food and vibe. Jar's website describes itself a "Modern American Chophouse". Lets discuss. To understand what a chophouse is, first you need to know the difference between a steak and a chop. A steak is a slice of beef and a chop is a cut of meat. A chophouse is a restaurant that specializes in chops and steaks. Jar has 4 cuts on the menu and one of them is skirt steak, which we all know is only suited for tacos. 3 entrees were chicken and the specialty of the house is not Porterhouse, Ribeye, or filet....its potroast. Our waiter pushed another Jar American chophouse classic....fried rice. The best thing about Jar is the bartender. He turns out classics and craft cocktails like the pro that he is. 3 stars for the bar! Tip the bartender and enjoy the libations. You'll need them if you order steak. If you come to Jar looking for the black mussels advertized on the website, you stand a better chance of finding Waldo. Staff opinions differ on why they are not available. You decide who's lying and tip accordingly.
