Duck Fried Rice, French Fries, Creamed Spinach, Sauted Pea Tendrils

4.5 stars. Three of us came to Jar for the first time and were seated right away. The waiter appeared to be very busy yet attentive. There were a lot of specials off the menu he listed off. The restaurant is kind of dark and moody. We all agreed that the ambience was still lovely. We started off with the crab deviled eggs, which were delicious. I thought my jalapeño margarita was average and not as exciting as the description on the menu. We ordered a Prime Kansas City steak with horseradish sauce and a chicken Parmesan (special). The sides we got included sautéed pea tendrils, French fries, creamed spinach, and duck fried rice. We absolutely loved the French fries and the sautéed pea tendrils were my second favorite. For dessert we ordered a carrot cake (special), which was a little dry and the chocolate pudding-that exceeded expectations. Overall, I thought this was a tasty dinner and I would absolutely come back in the future.

The last two times my pork chop has been undercooked. Honestly I don't get the appeal of this place and I don't know how it's stayed open as long as it has. The flavor is good but pork is scary to undercook. You can get really sick. The sides are usually pretty good but not good enough to make me go there and I live a few blocks away.

Our first visit and we enjoyed our dinner. Good food, nice service, and retro, yet trendy ambiance. We had the first seating but the restaurant was packed by the time we were done. I will admit folks on the Westside are more stylish than OC. It was nice to see people dressed up for dinner. The food was all good, if not amazing. The signature pot roast was good but underperformed my high expectations. The big rib on a bed of noodle (daily special) was really nice (I love beef ribs!). The chicken was very plump and moist. There is a bar. And there are ample metered street parking. Overall a great option for a nice night out.

Espresso Martini! Little too strong, but adding chocolate sauce helped balance this out.

Wow what an experience! We had a fantastic dinner here for Christmas Eve, and it was all around a good time. Absolutely recommend coming here, in fact we'll definitely be back soon ourselves! Food: 5/5 My partner and I had been snacking and restaurant hopping prior to going to dinner, so we ended up splitting a steak. I was a little worried about how that might be perceived in a venue like this, but our waiter was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable with doing that. We ordered the Prime Ribeye & Jar French Fries. Both were DELICIOUS. I had read some reviews prior for both of these menu picks stating that they were over salted and overcooked, but I would disagree wholeheartedly with those reviews. The steak was a perfect medium-rare for us, the fat melted in our mouths, and the fries were deliciously well-seasoned. I'm usually picky about fat on steak cuts, but I ate all of it without any complaint. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and I've eaten at a lot of steakhouses globally. My partner was so happy with the meal as well, as I recall them telling me about how "even though we were so full, the more I eat this the hungrier I get!" And that was so true! Dessert: 4/5 We got a Butterscotch Pudding to split & I got an Espresso Martini. The Martini was unusually strong, at least for me (I have a high tolerance), so the point down is for that. But again, shoutout to our waiter! He brought a little cup of chocolate sauce for me to add to my drink to make it less heavy, which helped considerably. The pudding was also so good. It was whipped, light, and airy, and again--normally I have an issue with certain textures but even the whipped cream I enjoyed! I usually greatly dislike whipped cream. But not this one. The flavor wasn't too rich, and it was just perfect! My partner was a big fan of this one too. Service: 5/5 OUTSTANDING! I believe his name was Daniel? I might be wrong, but my partner would likely know for sure. I'll update this review later for that! But oh my goodness he was fantastic. My partner rarely dines out, especially at upscale fine dining establishments. So he was a bit nervous however, our waiter made all of these worries dissipate. He was so fun, so energetic, and so accommodating! His silly santa hat was the cherry on top, plus all of the menu recommendations. At the start of the evening we had a significant wait time despite having a reservation. But all of that quickly was out of sight & out of mind because of the great service. Thank you for making our evening so special! We were more than happy to tip him well, especially for working on a holiday evening. All around: 5/5! I highly recommend this restaurant, and we'll be back soon! Happy holidays Jar!!

The food here is really good! The service is excellent and the ambience is good! Things i tried, iceberg wedge salad is AMAZING!! The pot roast is great. The chicken schnitzel is delicious. The filet mignon is delicious as well. Overall, still great after all these years.

So we started with a couple of cocktails then several appetizers; crab deviled eggs, roasted beet salad and the Roquefort wedge salad. Three of us shared the John Dory, onion rings and the creamed spinach. Everything was excellent, and the service was terrific. Keven, our waiter did an amazing job. Desert was banana cream pie and a sundae.

I didn't make it here until March 2026 and after my first visit, I'm sorry I didn't come earlier. My husband and I came here on a Sunday night, with a last minute reservation I'd made on Resy. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we came in around 5:30ish. A lot of the tables were empty. They had both indoor and outdoor dining available, but the majority of the seats were indoor. The ambiance here is dark and chic, it reminded me very much of restaurants in NYC. It would make for a good spot for a date night or girls' night out. We made it here in time to order one thing from their happy hour menu, the tater tots. These were heavy but moreish, it was hard to stop eating them even when my stomach was telling me I was full. We also shared the corn, which I believe may have been a special/seasonal dish. It will go down as one of the best corn dishes I've ever eaten in a restaurant. My husband got the burger for his main and I got the mussels. The mussels were pretty fresh and silky, and were overall excellent, but I didn't love the broth they came in. My husband's burger was fantastic. It's one of the best burgers I've eaten at a restaurant in LA. Service was lovely and efficient. I'm looking forward to dining here again, and would highly recommend trying it.

But they definitely help you with picking the right options. The staff was super nice and friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. The appetizers were pretty good too. We had the fries, brussel sprouts (best choice), tater tots, olives, marcona almonds and hummus. This place is perfect for either date night, cute meet up with a friend or after work with co workers.

We stopped by on a Monday around 8pm and it was surprisingly quiet at first, but before long people started walking in for Trivia Night and the atmosphere became much livelier. During the day, people come in to work, enjoy coffee, and just hang out, which gives it a nice neighborhood vibe. I ordered an Angry Orchard Cider and my friend ordered one of their Espress-OR Martinis. It looked great but it was strong! There are metered spaces behind the bar and there is also residential street parking nearby if you pay attention to the posted signs. My husband has type 1 diabetes so we very rarely eat at Italian ristorantes. Chef Tara has helped us rediscover a new world of flavor without negative impacts on my husband's blood sugar and cholesterol. (Thanks for the variety of non-dairy cheeses!!) Tip for first-timers: go when you can have the brunch or the lunch menu. Then you'll have so many options that you'll have to return! Round 1 Polpettine (meatballs) are made from lentils and texture similar to the real ones; lovely marinara sauce and ground macadamia nut instead of parmesan. Complement this with the citrus notes that highlight the sauteed swiss chard with earthy Italian butter / gigante beans. Round 2 The same beans are in the Greek goddess salad: rich with tomatoes, kalamata olives, and fresh red onions. This was a visually stunning and paired well with the Sicilian almond 'tuna' melt. The tuna is by far the most imaginative. Again, Chef Tara and the back of the house nailed the texture and I loved the hints of crunchy celery. The capers injected tiny bursts of salt and tartness. The only moderation I'd consider is slightly crisping / toasting the sandwich bread -- but the tuna melt sando is great as it is. Food was overall great. We ordered the Brussel sprouts, wagyu skewers, burrata, and spicy tuna crispy rice for our appetizers. For our entree, we shared the lemon pasta and branzino. We finished off with the Mandarin Tart. Of the appetizers, the Brussel sprouts seemed the most unique and flavorful. They're tossed in a kimchi sauce, so it has a nice mild spice. The wagyu unfortunately had an unpleasant meat smell (maybe not super fresh), and the spicy tuna crispy rice was nothing special - good but only worth ordering if you're really craving it. Our server told us the lemon pasta was very "lemon-forward," but it was not as tangy as I anticipated. If you're on the fence, staff will recommend dishes that pair well with the lemon pasta! We enjoyed it with our branzino because this palate was much more simple. For special events and celebrations, Ysabel will give you an enjoyable experience.
