I've been meaning to visit The Pawnshop since they opened, found it super hard to get in especially during the World Cup, me and my coworkers managed to get in after most of the initial hype had died down, the aesthetic and service were immaculate though you can still tell that it's new and some of the staff still adjusting, our server George was such a great person, helpful, funny and a great sport overall, ask for George for top-notch service. The drinks seemed beautiful and tasty, though we went for the beers, that were delicious and very reasonably priced, plus I'm already a big fan of Benny Boy Brewery and they carried a great selection from them. The food on the other hand, really tells you this place is no joke, everything seems to be elevated from beef tallow French fries to charred lettuce, there is a specific caviar section and a variety of expensive steaks and seafood to choose from. The caviar section tho had the most intriguing item, and maybe most ridiculous item on the menu, all of our friends joke about it, as much fun you can make of a $74 dollar hot dog. Who in their right mind would buy that? It just seemed too unethical even for anyone who could splurge and buy whatever they wanted, after all there were other tasty sounding things on the menu. Someone would have to be insane to buy it. I am not wealthy by any means but I can lack proper brain function around food. I decided to shell out and order the hot dog, despite the mockery and judging stares of my coworkers. My reasoning being that there was no photo of the item, we were not sure if someone had ordered it and I wanted to make history. Ordered the infamous 1oz wagyu hot dog topped with caviar. We didn't know what it looked like and we were all excited to see this uber pretentious glizzy, all my coworkers food arrived before the royal hot dog, though I didn't wait too long before it arrived, in all its glorious majesty. Or so I was hoping, as they brought to me the hot dog it had an underwhelming presence, a bit smaller than I hoped and not looking much like a traditional hot dog. Never the less it was there and all that mattered is that a bite of it would blow my mind with an explosion of flavors that came from an alternate dimension and would make it impossible to describe. Maybe it was that or simply my palate is not developed or sophisticated. My first and all consecutive bites, which were not many, felt velvety smooth, the bun was lightly browned and maybe buttered on both sides. The hot dog itself was perfectly cooked but it lacked that beautiful snap that you expect from a great sausage, it was beefy and rich, maybe too much after all it was wagyu, so it felt fatty, no disrespect to either but it had the flavor profile of the Oscar Mayer all beef franks, I would know, those are the ones in my fridge, it was obviously slightly better tasting and a bit bigger, just like a cleaner version. The caviar tasted great, mostly on its own, but it didn't do enough to cut through the fat and richness of the beefy weeny. I gotta say that everyone looked at me waiting for my opinion and description of the flavor journey I had embarked on, I didn't wanna disappoint but I had to be honest, and my only way to describe it was underwhelming. I wish instead of a beef hot dog, it was a lobster roll instead, it didn't taste bad, in fact it tasted good, but not orgasmic good, or 74 dollar good. I'm glad I experienced it but it was not memorable. Overall I still rate the place highly, but would not be ordering the caviar dog again. The burger, fries and wings were highly rated by the people at the table, and maybe would wanna try their PuPu platter next time. read more

I'm so happy there's finally a fabulous restaurant and sports bar in the neighborhood. Let's start with the decor. Absolutely gorgeous with television screens everywhere. I love the very high wooden beamed ceilings and copper poles. The bar is in the center surrounded by tables all around. Upstairs are suites for parties or just private dinners. A+ on the vibe. Now the food. We started off with the Garlic Shrimp, fried Calamari and charbroiled oysters. The roasted garlic shrimp was a mouth explosion of goodness. Such flavor and perfectly cooked. The Calamari had a light batter fried to perfection. The Oysters are a must have. Fantastic! The hamburger was so juicy with a brioche bun and tallow fries. Amazing. To top it all off the cheesecake with a honey (almost crème Brulé topping) was orgasmic!! The staff was so sharp and on their game. So professional and kind. Cory was our waiter and just a delight. Very personable and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. We loved Cory and the whole team. Granted the menu is pricey but if it's in your budget I highly recommend it. came on a thursday to watch the dodgers game. the wait staff was nice and attentive whenever we needed something. but the food was mediocre. I will commend the beef tallow fresh were decent, but the tavern pie was just over baked, dry and almost leathery when you bit into it. it markets itself as a sports bar but its giving upscale hotel lobby mixed with dimly lit date night spot, serving bar food at prices that you'd see at a $$-$$$ restaurant. it's not really a place i'd go in the future to catch a game and unfortunately the quality of the food for me, just doesn't justify that price point. read more

Opened just 12 days ago, this sports bar is already packed, and after eating here, I get why. The menu goes way beyond your typical bar food, and almost everything we ordered was really good. The only thing that fell flat for me was the burger and I wish the calamari was just a tad less oily. We shared the eggplant dip, smashed cucumbers, pan con tomate, beef tallow fries, calamari, and a bucket of fried chicken. The calamari was my favorite, even though it was a little on the greasy side. Everything else was full of flavor and better than I expected from a sports bar. The atmosphere is a big plus. Well, first off I'm not the sports bar patron. But it's a new place in the neighborhood I can walk to so of course I'm going to check it out. Before I even got there I was expecting it to have a little bit of finance tech bro pretentiousness to it. So, before I even arrived, I checked on OpenTable to see how busy it looked and every single timeslot was available. Great, let's go check it out, but I preloaded a 630 reservation just because of the ostentatiousness I expected. And sure enough.... I walk into the place a little after 6pm and I am first off dressed nice enough for an upscale sports bar and also dressed just like everybody else is in the restaurant. Let's say that right away. I go up to the two hosts and say I need a seat for 1, and I don't have a reservation. They pointed to the bar and say the bar is first come first serve. Perfect! That's where I like to sit anyway. One whole side of the bar is practically empty. When I attempt to sit on that side of the bar, I'm told only the other side of the bar (which is full) is first come first serve and these are all reserved. So I go back to the host stand and tell the two hostesses that the bartender told me I couldn't sit over there and they said yes you need a reservation for that side of the bar and I said OK I'll make a reservation. And then one of the hosts busily looks at her laptop and says well we don't have anything open until 8pm. I casually pull my phone out that's already opened to Open Table and tell her of course you do, you're completely open, CLICK!, there's my 6:30pm reservation for you. The panic in their faces that I had used their own reservation system against them! Jesus! They start to scramble immediately to figure what they can possibly do and of course end up seating me exactly where I wanted to sit the first time. Keep in mind during my entire dinner, NO ONE sits in the 7-8 bar seats to the left of me. They remain empty. The food. The cocktail was very nice the raspberry mezcal drink. Top notch cocktail. The shrimp cocktail. A complete ripoff. This is a $28 shrimp cocktail and 4 shrimp arrive, $7 a piece. If that's the case I want extra jumbo to colossal size. These 4 shrimp are the bare minimum size that a kitchen uses for shrimp cocktails and you can tell the chef knows it because they'll leave the heads on to make them appear twice as big. They are not. (Kitchen trick) The hanger steak and frites were just okay. The sauce for the steak was excellent but the steak itself was chewy and fatty. Not great. Now like I said at the beginning, I'm not a sports bar guy. I really just came for the food, which was not impressive at all. But also for someone who doesn't really watch sports on TV that much, what I did not understand is that it looked like there were about 30 large screen TVs on the first floor alone and they were all tuned to the same sporting event. Why?! I mean if the World Cup or the Dodgers is on have 20 of them watching that and spread the other 10 around. It's just weird that you would do that with that many screens. I don't understand it. My friends and I had a play to attend, so we stopped by here on the way to grab a couple drinks and apps beforehand. This is a new restaurant/bar in our area and we were really excited to try it out. We were greeted warmly by the hostesses who seated us at the bar. The place is beautiful with a very large capacity especially at the bar, the decor is very stylish, classy, and inviting. There are many TVs around the place which makes it a perfect place to watch a game. The bartender was super laid back and friendly, we ordered some shots of 1942 and a couple of house margaritas which were amazing, along with the Rhode Island style calamari which had bite to it and was delicious, and the beef tallow fries. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience, we will definitely be back to continue the celebration! read more

I have been a regular during the World Cup and can't say enough about this new place. Something LA desperately needed; an excellent restaurant with a sports bar inside of it! There are no bad seats in the house to watch any game (I've sat at the bar and at several different tables). The staff has been very accommodating during this opening period for them and deserve credit for opening right in the middle of the World Cup storm. It has been very busy and they have been going through some opening kinks, but those have been smoothing out with every visit. The food is really delicious and the menu diverse. Our parties have ordered much of the items (especially the shareables) and there is something for everyone. Great veggie/ vegan and fish options. Love the oysters, various salads, wings (chile sauce was the winner!) and the branzino amongst several others We did get to splurge on the caviar hot dog (the bun and dog are house made) and that was sacrilcious for sure! The bar program has been slowly getting integrated, but what I have had I have enjoyed and my wife and friends love the "Amber Waves" cocktail. Highly recommend. read more

I've come back almost every day lol working through menu! Leaving new review because OMG... SHAVED BROCCOLI CAESER best I've ever had! Caeser's my fav salad, so extra picky! I prefer chunky salads instead of leafy - broccoli adds perfect texture pairing with bread crumbs! Buttery crouton crunch gets equal distribution so you don't suffer bites without. People are scared of anchovies, but they're a MUST and these boquerones are extra quality and not too salty. This and Crudo are 2 top dishes so far wow. TOMATO & MELON - This succeeds because of the quality of the speck. Especially when you combine each ingredient. I prefer salads like this - more charcuterie. Question fruit's freshness (not bad, but kinda noticed when eating alone). Maybe a sauce or balsamic could help unify? PAN CON TOMAT - Surprised how much I liked this! Super clean and refreshing instead of savory. Amazing flavor and while I LOVED the boquerones in the Caeser, here they sadly disappear :( More salty sardines could punch through? Until then, enjoy their delicacy separate ROMANIAN HANGER STEAK FRITES - Steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly as were fries, but it was the green peppercorn sauce that was mind blowing. CHARRED CABBAGE - I love such a creative take on a veggie dish! All the flavors work, but it's a little much for 1 person. Would only get to share. STICKY PORK RIBS - I don't care for meat so tender it melts in your mouth, so appreciate the satisfying chew and crispy char. Glad it's not too sweet, but craving more spices. Peanuts lost their crunch and didn't eat well...better as a powder to dredge the ribs in? For cocktails... TINDERBOX - Holy spicy! A sports bar that is confused. We tried many appetizers and the only one that worked was pan con tomato. The ribs were fine but hard to share in a group. The pizza was really a flatbread that was subpar. Fries good. The menu has a burger for 36.00 and branzino for 72.00 and caviar etc...I personally think 4 people with appetizers and a drink each should not be 300.00 Very nice service and it could be a great contribution to the neighborhood. Went here with a few friends and my mom to catch up. They've only been open for a couple weeks so there were a lot of people inside, which was perfect because we really got to see what the service was like. I believe our server was Corey, he was great and checked in with us often. Gave recommendations and asked us questions about the food because they were looking for feedback. We had the steak frites, the Caesar salad sandwich, the calamari, the grilled cabbage and the tomahawk pork chop. The steak frites with peppercorn sauce was delicious as well as the pork chop and sandwich, along with the calamari. We wanted more of the sauce on the pork chop, so if you try it ask for extra sauce - trust me! The grilled cabbage wasn't our favorite, it had a great char on it but needed to be cooked a little more for us. However, the like sauerkraut crema was delicious, we all were talking about how we'd never had anything like it - so good. The place was very chill and there is a TV in every nook and cranny of that place, you will not miss a play or a game, and I loved that. Went during a "soft opening" and had a great time! Even though they seemed to be still getting up and running, but the service was incredible! As far as the space itself, if you have a game, any game, it WILL be on one of the many, many, many giant TVs. If it's not on one, someone will be happy to change one for you. Saw something I never thought I'd see at a sports bar... Velvet ropes! They were keeping me and one other party standing out in the blazing sun on a 95-degree Saturday afternoon rather than letting us in to watch the game, which was almost over. Why? Because they were allegedly "at capacity" - really? I can see inside your windows and there is PLENTY of room inside your 7,000 sqft restaurant! I don't mind standing, I explained. I drove 30 minutes out of my way to check out your new sports bar that I had just read about, in advance of next basketball season... And you won't even let me pop in for 20-30 minutes to check it out? The hostess allegedly checked with the manager, who said it was an "impossibility" because they only have a 200-person capacity. Seriously??? During big games, even bars with much lower capacities cram people in wall-to-wall. That is the business model of a bar - especially a sports bar! It's one thing to tell me you don't have a seat left for me - but please don't tell me that there's no way that you can let one more person in to stand at the bar because you're afraid that just one more person in your decidedly not-crammed restaurant is going to cause the fire department to come shut you down. That is preposterous. So congrats, you've now lost my business - and all my buddies' business - come basketball season. But hey, if this place truly has, or expects to keep to, a "200 person capacity" for a 7,000 sqft restaurant, they're going to be out of business before I even have the chance to go back there anyway. When here with friends, it looked super cute on the outside. I'm glad they revitalizing that area and it's not too far from my house so that was nice and easy not close, but not too far so I thought this could be a cute little hangout. I like that they had a menu, not just snacks however it was all disappointing the bartender was very rude. I don't know what her problem was that day, but she definitely had an attitude and clearly did not want to wait on us, which is surprising because we were all in the industry and we tip very well so that was probably a mistake on her part. The food was OK. It wasn't terrible, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but it was probably the only reason there's one star on here. I feel like if they're advertising it as a sports bar it's not really that maybe if you casually came in and a game was on but this is not a destination. It's too small and again the service is absolutely terrible which when you are watching sports you want decent service. We did mention something to the manager about the bartender because she was so bad but he clearly didn't seem to care. Food and environment, drinks all very good. Pricing was not as bad as I expected. Got the check at the end and was surprised in a good way. My only gripe is that they forgot our ramen pasta and we had to ask for it a couple of times. I expected it to be comped because it did not come out when it was supposed to and they clearly forgot it and just acted like nothing happened. We live in Hancock Park, near Pawn Shop and had been hearing from neighbors that we needed to go. We just returned from dinner - and can't say enough superlatives about our experience. The architecture, interior design, and customer service are elevated. The food is terrific. Our burger was special, as were the fries coated in beef tallow. The miso vanilla soft serve with caramel too, was next level. A shout out to our server Zuri. She was warm, gracious and knowledgeable. I'm really disappointed because I live within walking distance of this bar and have always had a great overall experience. In fact, before this interaction, I planned to become a regular because I genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks, and the team. Earlier in the evening, I spent about $120 on food and drinks and paid my tab. Before last call, I ordered one final $19 drink. I asked for my bill, and the team member behind the bar gave me a thumbs-up and said all good, so I had every reason to believe my tab had been closed. On a previous visit over the Fourth of July weekend, another bartender had given my friends and me complimentary shots. That's not unusual in the bar industry, so when I was told I was "all good," nothing about the interaction seemed out of the ordinary. I was already outside talking with the security staff when I was approached and told I need to come back inside and I didn't paid. If I had been trying to get away with something shady, why would I still be standing outside the entrance chatting with security? When I explained what had happened, the manager immediately approached the situation as though I was being dishonest instead of first trying to understand what had occurred. I even told him, "You can watch the cameras if you need to," and his response was, "Oh, I will." That response made it feel as though he had already decided I had intentionally done something with ill intent. He then told me the barback didn't have the authority to close out my tab and that he would speak with him. That response felt like he was throwing his own team member under the bus. More importantly, how would I, as a customer, know who has what authority? I relied on the employee who told me all good. What disappointed me most wasn't the mistake--it was how it was handled. In any customer-facing role, especially in hospitality, it's important to know how to speak to paying customers, particularly returning customers. An apology would have gone a long way. Instead, when I expressed that his approach felt aggressive and that an apology was warranted, he acted offended. I've been in leadership for nearly seven years, and I know that good leaders don't respond this way. Strong leaders take ownership, support their team instead of shifting blame, and resolve issues while treating customers with respect. Mistakes happen, but accountability and professionalism are what leave a lasting impression. Unfortunately, this interaction completely changed my perception of a place I had genuinely planned to support on a regular basis. read more

Great viewing for sports, TVs are everywhere. Tons of seats at the bar. Very friendly staff. I went for the MLB All-Star game and requested they put the sound on, and they accommodated. Interesting that I needed to request that. Drinks and selection of spirits are good, prices were consistent with the area. Regarding the food, I ordered 4 things. Everything was good but nothing stood out, and my only real criticism is the portion sizes of the small plates, which were laughably small. The calamari at $22 was about 1/4 the size of a portion you'd expect anywhere else for the same price. Drinks were outstanding and the fried chicken, crispy fries, and the melon and tomato salad with prosciutto were all excellent and well prepared. I just went with two of my friends for the first time. We were so excited for this experience to watch a couple of our favorite games and have some great food at the same time. We got none of the above. The food was mediocre. They didn't have hotdogs because they said they didn't have a working grinder for some time. Definitely overpriced for what it is, and I'd never say that type of thing. We had a great conversation with two employees about our feedback, mainly related to not being able to listen to the games. It's a sports bar and you can watch games while hearing not so great music in the background. One of the employees suggested that we give our feedback directly to the manager, David. The long and the short of it is, David did not care. He walked by us and said he had to deliver wine to another table and never came back. His vibe was extremely off.
