Overall: 5 stars Captivating Asian fusion restaurant that knows how to cultivate all of the trending Asian flavors and innovate in their own way to construct a menu full of excitement. I love that every dish is presented beautifully and tastes as beautiful as it looks. Highly recommend. Ube Waffles - delicious mochi waffles that are bouncy with a slight chew; I love that the ube flavor comes through more than visually, and that the dish is served with a medley of well cut fruit. Blossoming Tea - I was a bit disappointed as I couldn't tell when the flower was bloomed vs not, but it was a very large pot of floral calming tea. Miso Eggplant - petite dish with lots going on starting with that tender eggplant, served in a bed of saline forward miso and then topped with crunchies and scallion threads; love the color, love the texture, very complete dish. Great first experience and would absolutely come back! Such a yummy and aesthetic brunch. // Iced matcha latte So creamy! I'm not sure what brand matcha they use but this was delicious. // Ube matcha waffle A lovely crisp with chewy mochi center. I would get this again. I didn't taste much of the ube but texture and sweetness was just right. The two butters it came with added a lovely sweet/salty creamy depth to each bite. // Truffle lobster Benedict Also yum! Lobster was nice and tender. Tasted fresh and not overly fishy. The umami from the lobster went great with the eggs. // Kalbi style steak and eggs Great protein options for brunch! Definitely a big steak portion. Meat was nice, tender and juicy. Comes with side of greens and macaroni salad. The inside of the restaurant is lovely with modern lighting and seating. My friend and I came right at opening time, 10am, to be seated. Even when we finished eating, there were still people waiting outside to eat. Definitely recommend this yummy brunch spot but there may be a wait!

Really unique brunch concept! So many fun dishes and drinks to try! - Unagi Benedict: 3/5 Very rich and umami. Full of flavor. Was hoping for an English muffin but instead they used toast which became soggy very quickly. - Mochi pancake: 5/5 sooo good and QQ. Loved the texture and flavor. - Short rib poutine: 4/5 barely any short rib, but the gravy and sauce paired very well with the tater tots - Mentaiko frittata: 3/5 too salty for me! but flavor was spot on Overall food was very flavorful! Service was quick and friendly. The interior was way too dark and moody for brunch, though I understand it's really a sushi restaurant with a brunch option as a plus. Also the brunch menu was very confusing to read lol. Would wanna come back again just to try their other unique dishes!

Happiest birthday to my sissy!! & Shout out to her for celebrating her 42nd year @ SOHO Modern Japanese!! This was my first experience with SOHO MJ and while I didn't exactly know what to expect, I left quite impressed. First and foremost, I believe dinner offerings are only going to be the pre-fixed tasting menu. [[someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong]] While there is a signature menu and brunch menu listed on the website, none of the items were able to be ordered ala carte during our visit. Dinner consisted of 2 different tasting menus: Classic + Premium. The third menu was a long list of signature cocktails. Let me start off with saying how delicious SOHO's cocktails are. On the list of 11 offerings, here is what we actually tried: *SMOKE & HI *PINK SUNSET *SOHO 75 *TOKYO MULE *PEACH RICKEY *BLUSHING BAE All were great in their own way and there wasn't a single disappointment for our entire group. I believe the 8 of us all went with the classic tasting menu, 1 adding the caviar to their purchase. Food presentation was A1 and although the bites were extremely small [[ i openly admit that i am a BIG BIG eater, with quite an appetite]] everything was so good. A few personal highlights were the temaki, abalone steamed egg custard, and the assortment of nigiri. I must say, dessert was trash. The lemon vanilla custard had no lemon flavoring to it- no citrus of any kind. This was the only thing that wasn't consumed. All in all, 5 stars. It was such a fun night celebrating the Birthday Bae and the food was awesome.

Made a reservation on a Sunday after 4th of July. Restaurant decor is very modern and sleek. Surprisingly for being in a strip mall. Was seated right away. My wife has an egg and dairy intolerance, which the restaurant was able to accommodate. That was much appreciated. Each dish presentation was prepared and presented beautifully. We enjoyed each dish and the add on sukiyaki. That was worth the up charge. Overall, very good food and presentation. I will note that the waitress was very soft spoken and talked fast, so the description of each dish was easily missed unless asked again. Other than that, great experience.

I came in looking forward to a good meal, and I left with a reminder of why I love tasting menus. For $128, this is easily the most affordable omakase I've had--and somehow one of the most memorable. The quality completely exceeded my expectations. Every course felt intentional, beautifully presented, and showcased premium ingredients without making anything feel overdone. Even after adding three cocktails, I walked away feeling like this was an incredible value for the experience. The Modern Sashimi was a fantastic start. The shiromi topped with uni immediately set the tone for the evening. The sweetness and creaminess of the uni elevated the delicate white fish into one of my favorite bites of the night. The oyster tasted incredibly fresh and clean, while the A5 wagyu quite literally melted in my mouth. Ankimo still isn't something I'd order on its own, but I appreciated experiencing it as part of the tasting menu. The first nigiri course introduced me to fish I normally wouldn't order, including barracuda. Hamachi remains one of my favorites, but I loved getting to try something new while letting the chef guide the experience. The chawanmushi absolutely surprised me. The steamed egg custard was silky, warm, and unbelievably smooth. Comforting without being heavy, I honestly found myself wishing the bowl would never end. The Atsumono course continued to impress. The crispy amadai served over eggplant had an incredible contrast of textures, with perfectly crisp skin and tender flesh underneath. The abalone was cooked beautifully--not chewy at all--and paired with a delicious sauce that complemented its natural sweetness. The tempura gindara was light, crisp, and rich without feeling greasy. The second nigiri course reminded me why toro is one of my favorite cuts. Even the leaner toro melted in my mouth, while the fattier piece was pure butter. I also have to admit the saltwater anago completely changed my opinion. I usually avoid eel because I find it overly rich and a little slimy, but this preparation was clean, delicate, and absolutely delicious. (Tamago... we appreciate you, but you definitely weren't my favorite course.) The undisputed star of the evening, though, was the tartare. Toro, Hokkaido uni, amaebi, and caviar together created one of the best bites I've had in a long time. Every spoonful was luxurious yet balanced, with the sweetness of the uni, richness of the toro, delicate shrimp, and pops of caviar coming together perfectly. I actually caught myself slowing down because I didn't want it to end. The asari suimono was subtle in the best way. The dashi wasn't meant to overpower--it simply allowed the sweetness of the clam and bamboo shoots to shine, acting as a gentle palate cleanser before dessert. Dessert ended the meal beautifully. The vanilla panna cotta had the perfect texture--firm enough to hold its shape while remaining incredibly soft and creamy. The vanilla flavor really came through, and the fresh strawberries, raspberries, seasonal fruit purée, and buttery crumble added just enough brightness and texture. Pairing it with an espresso martini turned out to be one of my favorite endings to a meal in recent memory. I also tried three cocktails throughout dinner. The Peach Rickey was refreshing, though I admittedly made the mistake of brushing my teeth before arriving (lesson learned). The Pink Sunset, however, completely stole the show. The combination of rum sake, pink guava, lime, and Li Hing Mui was bright, balanced, and easily my favorite cocktail of the evening. The espresso martini was the perfect way to finish dinner alongside dessert. What impressed me most wasn't just the food--it was the pacing. Every course arrived at the right time, allowing me to enjoy each dish without ever feeling rushed. Dining alone never felt awkward. Instead, it gave me the chance to slow down, appreciate every bite, and really experience the craftsmanship behind each course. I came here for a Saturday date with myself, and it ended up being one of the most enjoyable meals I've had all year. This wasn't just a great sushi dinner--it was one of those meals that reminds you why tasting menus exist. Every course invited me to slow down, every bite offered something different, and for a couple of hours I got to simply enjoy incredible food. I'll absolutely be back.

I love me some japanese food so i had to give this place a try. I'm not a big brunch person but I loved the variety of savory dishes here. Taste: I loved everything I ordered. Some of the dishes come with fresh fruit which made everything feel well rounded. The wild mushroom dish was also one of my favorites as a mushroom lover. Parking: There is a lot of parking in the plaza! Service: Ok

I finally had a chance to try this upscale modern Japanese restaurant. They only serve their brunch menu on weekdays, so I took advantage during a work holiday. Their dinner is now only prix fixe. My first impression was how elegant and modern the decor was. I made a reservation and was seated right away. Their brunch menu ranged from Japanese interpretations of American classics like chicken & waffle and eggs Benedict, to sushi dishes, to rice dishes, to sandos (sandwiches). We ordered a lot so that we could try a bit of everything. Our food came out quickly, and each plate was beautifully presented. While every dish was very tasty, none of the dishes really blew me away. Our server was efficient but didn't smile once. It's not that big a deal, but a little smile is very welcoming and makes a difference. However, Jose, who was preparing the food, brought a few of our dishes out and each time he gave us a huge smile. What we ordered: + Short rib rice teishoku set - Elegantly presented, this was our favorite. The short rib literally melts in your mouth. The soup had a deep fried tofu pocket floating on top. The salad was above average, and even the rice seemed special. + Chicken croffle toast - this was very good and much bigger than I expected. There was probably about 4-5 tender chicken thighs in a crunchy coating. It had the same flavor as karage. The croffle (croisant waffle) was ok, but not as good as waffle imo. + Chutoro (medium fat) tuna nigiri - a perfect bite. When I looked under the tuna, I only saw about a 1/2 a pinky size of rice, but that turned out to be the perfect ratio. + Mochi waffle - you get your choice of matcha or ube flavor. I chose matcha. This was very good, but didn't get a whole lot of matcha flavor. + Macaroni salad - the weakest dish. It just tasted like your typical macaroni salad. Overall, it's about 4.5 stars. The food, while very good, didn't blow me away as I would expect from an upscale place. However, the entire experience, atmosphere, and quick service bumped it up to 5 stars.

Came for brunch and was underwhelmed. I head such great things about SOHO and decided to give it a try. My girlfriend and I got there as soon as they opened as brunch is first come first served. It's incredible cute inside, for sure! The food itself wasn't that great and very expensive for not that great. The quality does not match the price point at all. I had more expectations. As for service, it was just ok. Our server was very clumsy so he kept dropping stuff. It was an accident and perhaps he was having an off day, but the experience left me nervous that he would spill on me. Meh. I'm not sure if I would come back. It was a good try, but I wasn't really satisfied with my food.

Love the vibes, service & ambiance. Matcha latte was balanced nicely. I consumed the braise short rib poutine too quickly for a picture. Posh, tasty & neat. もうおいしいです。

Upscale contemporary place with very nice ambiance which you can't tell from the front entrance. I was indeed in for a surprise when we got in. Love the creative drinks & food offered - from presentations and platings to quality of food, they were phenomenal. My friend treated me to a lunch there. We had their Benedict's and also tried their Belgian syphon coffee which gives a good two cups of nice, smooth, aromatic and well balanced coffee. (Apparently they use Peet's beans). I will be back again to try out their dinner menu and dessert next time.

Upscale Japanese dining experience. Over the years, I have never left this spot disappointed. All menu items are designed with exquisite creativity, refined craftsmanship, and premium quality ingredients prepared with incredible culinary flair. The interior decor is simple, chic, and romantic with its own charm -- but be warned, it's not a huge restaurant so waits are not uncommon if you have a larger size party so plan accordingly. Service is largely consistent. The only thing I would point out is that there isn't necessarily one server assigned to your table -- it seems that multiple people cover each section of the restaurant. Anyway, if you're looking for beautifully crafted East Asia influenced dishes that actually taste wonderful -- this is your spot!

5 stars. Pricey but worth every penny. $26 Ebikatsu: on the heavy side but absolutely worth every bite. $10 Mentaiko Frittata: semisweet egg frittata with salty topping and mentaiko was perfectly balanced and delicious.
