Bar Clara is the pool bar/restaurant at Hotel Per La. It's a rooftop pool that feels like you stepped into Italy. It's beautiful. Early mornings are the best. The pool gets very crowded. Service is outstanding. These guys work so hard. They are constantly go, go, go and on top of it. Food is okay. I tried a tostada- the chip was so stale I could not bite through it. The next day I tried a salad- which was very overdressed. Drinks are good. On Sundays, they have a DJ. Anyone can eat at the restaurant/bar. If you want to get into the pool area, you either have to be staying at the hotel or buy a ResortPass. read more

In a world where great customer service is becoming harder to find, I want to commend the staff who took care of my party. They were friendly, attentive without being pushy, and genuinely approachable. The ambiance and aesthetic of the bar were gorgeous. DTLA. Rooftop bar. Well, it's a little more than that. It's kinda chic to me. Subtle lighting, plants and cozy but not like in a lazy way. Can't really tell that from the pics I posted but go and visit and I think you'll catch my drift. To step back a bit, parking. There's a paid lot right next to the building. I don't remember how much I paid but it was less than Valet. $33 to start. The lot is about 20-25 yards from the Valet station. I can't comment on the service as I ordered at the bar. But I will say the bartender was friendly and nice. Engaged in conversation casually no chip on his shoulder. Only had one drink because I was heading down to the restaurant for dinner. If you look at the menu, feels like it's elevated bar bites. Can't comment much more because I didn't eat there. But there are tables both inside and out to sit out and enjoy the bites and cocktails. There's even eating on the front side of the bar in case you don't get one of the cabana seating around the pool. It was a nice chill poolside vibe. So the vibe was great, I love the Mediterranean feel the Leon trees, the pool etc the servers were polite and the drinks were made in good time. However for $25 a cocktail I was expecting them to be delicious. The first one I had was so sour I couldn't finish it. The second one was a little better as I changed my order. There were a lot of people sitting around the pool it was around 3pm people were ordering food, we didn't try that so can't comment on that. The views and atmosphere are beautiful, the staff were very friendly and attentive, and there's also a restroom available for guests, which is super convenient when you're lounging by the pool with drinks. During happy hour, the bartender's choice was an espresso martini -- not really my thing (I forgot caffeine and alcohol was even a combo!). I've never encounter a good burger at a rooftop bar inside a hotel til I went here. The burger was insanely delicious. Juicy burger patty with hot honey bacon, melted cheddar cheese, slathered by the harissa aioli with sumac onions, and the buns were soft and fluffy. The French fries were crispy. Like all of them. Not one were soft and flimsy. It comes with ketchup on the side but I used my friends green harissa mayo to dip my fries in. Im not so much of a ketchup with fries fanatic. I did killed the plate cause it was that good. Chefs kiss all around. Valet parking is available or by self parking on the side of the hotel. Bar Clara is the rooftop/poolside restaurant atop the Hotel Per La, which is where I was staying and had a dining credit. Clara thankfully is not one of those noisy late-night revelry places that adorn many a rooftop hotel, even in DTLA. Clara closes at 10 pm. The setting is beautiful with a few indoor high tops by the bar and plentiful outdoor seating arrangements both outside the bar and around the entire pool. Views are decent, but there are better around. At 8 pm on a weeknight the place was fairly busy, but some folks were just enjoying the pool. I had a compressed watermelon salad with chili-marinated cucumbers, feta cheese and candied pepitas with added grilled shrimp, plus furikake-dusted tempura fries with Sriracha aioli. The salad and shrimp were tasty, but the fries were on the limp side. I don't know what makes them tempura-ish. I also got a mocktail that was the bartender's choice--good but too much muddled mint for my taste. The prices were on the high side for what you get. Kudos to Michael, the only server on duty who was literally running laps around the pool and patio area. A nice place for a relatively quiet poolside meal and/or drink. read more

Went for lunch today. They are not very busy so you feel like you have the whole rooftop to yourself. It's casual seating (patio furniture) with an additional happy hour menu over the lunch hours. We had the hamburger, chicken wrap and tacos. All tasted very good. Service was really good but slower than most spots where you have quick work lunches. Give yourself 90 minutes instead. Saw this on resort pass but it was sold out for the day so I called them to see if it was correct and they said no you can come in and purchase there. It was a whole ordeal when I got there and was told I was given incorrect info and I couldn't purchase a ticket there. Resort pass will charge $40 but in person they charged me $50. There were multiple people there purchasing a pass in person. The pool is tiny and the service is poor. The man upstairs that's the manager was rude along with the female bartender. I've been to Hotel Per La many times and have always enjoyed the space, but this recent visit left me really disappointed. While having drinks, a staff member approached us about the no-smoking policy. I completely understand and respect the rule, but the way it was communicated "this isn't that kind of place" came across as unnecessarily condescending. It felt less like a reminder and more like a judgment. What made the situation worse was that the manager initially said we could stay, then changed her mind and had security escort us out even though we were calm and respectful. The entire situation felt disproportionate and unnecessarily embarrassing. I've always recommended Hotel Per La in the past, but this experience really changed my perspective. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback, because service and tone should match the level of hospitality this property is known for. read more

I asked the waitress to cancel them and she said she did, despite this over $50 was still billed to my room. Contacting hotel management, billing etc. has been impossible. They either don't answer or the front desk states they are unavailable and will call back but never hear back. It's been 2 months and several phone calls and the matter is still not resolved. Good vibes with DJ I.AM.JAM, he does such a great job setting the perfect mood for a sunny SoCal day. At the beginning it was empty but then it filled up rather quickly. The bartenders are so welcoming and MIKE was super friendly. He knew how to keep the drinks flowing and also recommended food options. I had multiple 400 Conejos or Mezcal Margaritas which were a fabulous recommendation from MIKE. For food, I had the Tempura Fries and the Wings which were delicious and cooked to perfection. When my friend and I ran into the indoor bar area (we had been sitting outside by the pool) and alerted our server that a cockroach was hanging out by our table, she shrugged and said "oh yeah, it's Los Angeles. Cockroaches come out at night." While that may be true, this is still a hotel and we're at a restaurant on the ROOF. okay stumbled upon this cute freaking place on my walk back home! Since it was 80 degrees I decided on just coming to check it out. GORGEOUS colorful and inviting. I'm not one for writing negative reviews, I normally find something good about every establishment, and I was SO excited to visit and review this new rooftop in the heart of LA but to say I was let down is an understatement. Don't get me wrong, the space is so well decorated, pretty for a sunset view, and has the cutest furniture, but because of the staff? I don't think i can come back. I came with my friend on a Tuesday evening and we were very excited to try the rainbow spritzes that the bar advertised for themself and met our reservation time at 6:30pm. We were taken to our table quite quickly but were immediately asked to move from the 4-person couch into a table for 2 in a secluded corner by a gate because of "other reservations." Other than us, there was one other 4 people party on the other side of the rooftop and a couple of people sitting in the bar inside - makes sense, as it was a Tuesday, but it felt a little rude for the to seat and move us to another table while the entire area was so empty :( We waited over 15 minutes after being seated to get our waters, then had to flag down various servers to be waited on. It took us roughly 30 minutes before they took our drink orders, then another 15 minutes to place our food orders. Although the food came out relatively quickly within the next 20 minutes, we had to wait before the staff brought us utensils, straws, napkins, etc. There were roughly 6-8 people working and for our party to go unnoticed felt icky to me. for the food: - truffle fries: delectable, perfectly crisp, pairs well with the chimichurri sauce. amazing & a must order - deviled eggs: it's average! wouldn't necessarily recommend but not the worst item - saganaki: fried halloumi, too sweet, more of a showpiece - pink spritz: spirit forward - purple spritz: 10/10 tasted delicious, would order again read more

Highly recommend checking out this new rooftop, it's the perfect summer rooftop spot and very spritz friendly! The service is fantastic, we felt taken care of the whole time. I would come back during the day for drinks and small plates, but not for dinner. The food is good overall, although it wasn't the main attraction for us. We enjoyed the sardines but the grilled halloumi and steak had some very off-putting flavor we suspect came from the oil that left a very poor aftertaste. I loved the Nomad, and am still sad to see it gone, but we were in dtla last week and decided to visit and try out the new ownership here. We were blown away by the staff upon arriving, everyone was so friendly. We asked about the rooftop bar and one of the staff members walked us to the elevator and pressed the button for us and gave directions for what to do when we arrived. I know things like this don't sound like much but especially post Covid how many times have you walked in somewhere and they seemed super put out? It was really nice to feel welcomed and have people excited to see you. We sat at the bar, it looks very similar to before with the bar area connecting the main walk up and the pool area. It was this past Sunday and there were people but it wasn't too crowded and had good music and a nice laid back vibe. The bartender was great, highlighted her favorites, talked about the cocktails for a bit. One part of the bar menu are drinks done by color, I ordered the orange. We also got a few other drinks all were good and came out quickly. We just had some light snacks. You should try the deviled eggs which were great. I liked the halloumi but thought the sauce they put on top was a little different. It comes to the table on for which is nice, but the food runner didn't tell us how to eat it so we blew it out after a little bit and that was a mistake because it definitely needed to cook more. We stayed at Hotel Per La and one of our first visits was to the rooftop bar. Getting out of the elevator the entrance is colorful and full of plants. The bar it self was clean and had 1 to 2 bar tenders. We had two drinks that came out delicious but our favorite part was the food. The steak and the chicken wings had so much flavor probably the most we've had for it being considered a bar. The bartender put their time into making our drinks and making sure the presentation of it was nice. The views of this rooftop are amazing we wish we had checked out at night as well. read more

Came to LA to visit my sister and we came here on a whim with Resort Pass. This bar is adorable, and the pool is nice and clean. I recommend getting here early because sunbeds fill up quick! The portion of Harissa Fries was really big and we ate the whole thing, so I definitely recommend. We ordered a few drinks, the Berne'D out frozé and Aperol Spritz which were both great. I actually love this place. Been coming here on Fridays for the last few months now. Today I go and the rules have changed from 2 weeks ago. Now you can only go on Fridays with a $50 resort pass. Be fr Clara. The pool is literally 3ft deep, not heated and there were like 5 people at the pool at noon. Even trying to get a resort pass they were "sold out." Again with only 5 patrons at the pool. I spend more than $50 on food and drinks when I go. Even clubs in dtla don't cost that much for a cover. Do better! read more

Great rooftop hotel on top of the PERLA. The pool is great and the service provided was exceptional. Michael was our server and the bartender Efrian made great drinks. he made us E-side Rickies and daquiris.
