Excellent little rooftop oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of DTLA. This place is located within the Per La hotel and has a full cocktail menu and some nice lunch menu options. Highly recommend if you need a bit of a getaway before going back to work.

Bar Clara is a gorgeous rooftop bar located on top of Hotel Per La, and I absolutely loved the poolside vibe. I arrived around 11:30 AM on a Saturday, and it was already pretty full -- we managed to snag the last daybed, so I'd definitely recommend coming early if you want a good seat. The views and atmosphere are beautiful, the staff were very friendly and attentive, and there's also a restroom available for guests, which is super convenient when you're lounging by the pool with drinks. During happy hour, the bartender's choice was an espresso martini -- not really my thing (I forgot caffeine and alcohol was even a combo!). We ordered one but were served two; we didn't want to make a fuss, so we just went with it. Food-wise, everything we tried was great! We got the fries and hummus plate during happy hour -- both were solid, and the fries were a huge portion, which I loved. I also tried the "Berne'd Out," a frozen strawberry Château Berne rosé, and it was perfect for a hot, sunny day -- super refreshing and light.

Visited Hotel Perla with Resort Pass for a friend's birthday and it was amazing! The bartender, Victor, was very kind and made some great recommendations for our group of four. Once he found out we were celebrating a birthday, he made sure we never ran out of drinks. It is a little pricey but it's worth it for the quality of food and drinks. Not to mention the esthetics of the rooftop pool.

I've never encounter a good burger at a rooftop bar inside a hotel til I went here. The burger was insanely delicious. Juicy burger patty with hot honey bacon, melted cheddar cheese, slathered by the harissa aioli with sumac onions, and the buns were soft and fluffy. The French fries were crispy. Like all of them. Not one were soft and flimsy. It comes with ketchup on the side but I used my friends green harissa mayo to dip my fries in. Im not so much of a ketchup with fries fanatic. I did killed the plate cause it was that good. Chefs kiss all around. Valet parking is available or by self parking on the side of the hotel. We did that paid $15 on a Saturday with the oarkong attendant.

Beautiful pool, and great bar service! When the hotel cafe was closed earlier than I expected, the bartender at Bar Clara made me a lovely vanilla latte. Being an October morning, the pool was empty, but it was pretty!

I was staying at this hotel and decided to give the roof bar a visit for a quick drink. The bartenders were nice and gave a suggestion for a drink which I really enjoyed. It was a Friday evening and overall the vibes were calm. I love the bright, tropical vibes and decor they had throughout the bar. There was plenty of patio seating, a pool, and the view which was very nice!

Friendly service and food allergies are labeled clearly. The fries were solid, the cajun spice was not like your usual over the top saltiness, rather it was a well concocted cajun spice mix. The dips in the Mezze Platter were deliciousssss. Sangria was pretty good. Lovely rooftop view with high tops, chairs, nice bright and welcoming ambiance. Quite solid for a hotel bar.

My husband brought me here on a little date on a Saturday afternoon. I love rooftop bars and this one was beautiful. There was a wedding and the couple were getting their photos taken by the pool. J ordered me this super delicious mocktail (Claire's remedy) and we also ordered the skewers and the chorizo croquettes appetizer dish. The service was great and the people at the bar and the person who brought our food were kind and attentive. I'd come back!

Food: food was made quick, fresh and with quality ingredients Service: Attentive. Ambiance: beautiful decor, beautiful view, upscale vibe but Victor makes you feel like family We plan to recommend to everyone. It's nice to find a place in the middle of the city with a chill vibe.

Bar Clara is the rooftop/poolside restaurant atop the Hotel Per La, which is where I was staying and had a dining credit. Clara thankfully is not one of those noisy late-night revelry places that adorn many a rooftop hotel, even in DTLA. Clara closes at 10 pm. The setting is beautiful with a few indoor high tops by the bar and plentiful outdoor seating arrangements both outside the bar and around the entire pool. Views are decent, but there are better around. At 8 pm on a weeknight the place was fairly busy, but some folks were just enjoying the pool. I had a compressed watermelon salad with chili-marinated cucumbers, feta cheese and candied pepitas with added grilled shrimp, plus furikake-dusted tempura fries with Sriracha aioli. The salad and shrimp were tasty, but the fries were on the limp side. I don't know what makes them tempura-ish. I also got a mocktail that was the bartender's choice--good but too much muddled mint for my taste. The prices were on the high side for what you get. Kudos to Michael, the only server on duty who was literally running laps around the pool and patio area. A nice place for a relatively quiet poolside meal and/or drink.

Ignorant pseudo bartender. Crossed up and confused. Look at him.

You would think that a rooftop bar located in the area this place is in would have REAL professional bartenders. It does NOT. When you have to tell the bartenders what ingredients to use and what glassware is proper - you know you are in the company of the D list. Such as this graying hair geezer in photo working on Memorial Day weekend. What a loser. I ask for the RIGHT cocktail and he gives me attitude as if I'm exposing his shortcut goldbricking arse to MAKE the cocktail right. You see: this geezer and the other slopes here have been sloppily hacking their way to a paycheck for so long, they have forgotten what a real bespoke cocktail tastes like. Yes, you fool, absinthe is used to prepare a Sazerac. You don't even know how to make a Jack Rose. Fool. You should be a garbage man instead of a bartender. Greying old middle aged fool. It's sad.

    Best drinks both with mezcal!

Drinks: Really, really good. My absolute favorite was the boat drink with foam on top, but we split several others and I liked everything we tried. Vibe: Unmatched. There are several drinks on the menu with a theatrical presentation that gets the whole bar involved. The space is small, so you'll inevitably have your conversation interrupted by an alluring siren's call or some ceremonial rowers. This is a crucial part of the tiki experience for me. The bartenders all have their different spin and clearly are in it for the love of the game. We had a lot of fun chatting with the staff. Food: I ate 2 orders of soup dumplings and probably could have bodied down 5 more. They were ridiculously good, but prohibitively expensive.

Our waitress got us some free shots, very kind. :) Ambiance 4/5 I love the vibes, the darkness, the decor. It's just too stinky and smokey whenever they serve the Painkiller.

It wasn't your typical corner haunt. There was an intentionality here that turned a simple evening out into a genuine education. The curation of spirits was nothing short of impressive, but what set the experience apart was the conversation. I arrived knowing the difference between a glass and a bottle, but left with a newfound appreciation for the nuances of rum, the craftsmanship behind a smooth whiskey, and the unexpected complexities hidden within a well-made vodka. Each pour came with a story, a history, and a level of expertise that transformed every sip into a lesson. The atmosphere was the perfect anchor for it all--utterly chill and devoid of the frantic, forced energy you find elsewhere. It was the kind of place where the music sits at just the right volume and the lighting invites you to actually linger. It was refreshing to find a spot that treats its craft with such respect while keeping the vibe completely grounded. I walked out feeling a little more cultured and a lot more relaxed. Consider this my official notice: I'll definitely be back.

Echoing what everyone else has been saying - the service is SO slow. It was about 45 minutes before we were able to order our second drink and our water glasses were empty. They have so many runners bringing the drinks out but only a few servers and, from the looks of it, one bartender (on a Saturday night - what?!). The server was saying he was trying to find a manager to help out but they were nowhere to be found. Clearly management is fine with these service times since they're still making $$$. The drinks were delicious, and I loved that there were heaters on the patio (though they did get very hot at times). Our server was so kind and brought us a celebratory drink. I do wish there were more explanations with the beverages, especially for the Paid Vacation as most people will not realize you're supposed to bite into the buzz button for the tingly sensation. We decided to get a drink to celebrate Father's Day, only to strike out at the first two bars we tried--I guess a lot of places are closed at 9:30 on a Sunday. This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process.
